RATING
While none of the stories have left me awake at night, there's an unspeakable aspect to this podcast that always keeps me coming back. The grounded, stripped back approach keeps it more approachable, and tension is built through raw storytelling as opposed to cheap jump scares and music.Don't expect there to always be a monster or eldritch horror at the end of each story either. While some stories don't have quite the payoff I was hoping for, they always seem to find a fitting conclusion. The stories feel so real, however, that any eldritch creature or shrieking ghost would actually take away from their overall tone and quality. This isn't your typical horror anthology. If you're looking for gore, monsters, and terrifying tales, best look elsewhere. However, if you're looking for deeper musings on what truly terrifies us, you may find yourself hooked.
Trevor Henderson provides terrifyingly beautiful creatures, and this podcast helps expand on them and the world they live in. The characters and plots are often well written, and the anthology nature ensures that there is something here for everyone. Funny emotional at times, the podcast maintains a grounded tone that makes it easy to feel as if you are exploring Mayfair yourself. Some of my favorite Henderson creatures didn't get enough love/time in the spotlight in their respective episodes for my taste, but overall the focus on character driven stories with much of the monster-specifcs being left nebulous leads to a more suspenseful, engaging product overall.
A masterpiece in every aspect. Unlike many podcasts, they manage to not only fully capture the elusive feel of Eldritch horror, but interweave it with a thrilling story and engaging characters. Every aspect of this show is masterful and it never overreaches or outstays it's welcome. I also want to say that the premise and method of storytelling are genius, and have made me feel more immersed in the story and the characters than any other podcast out there.
