RATING
Overall, this was a very well done series. Michael Hobbes did an excellent job of research based on the media he chose to research. Very good storyteller! That said, please accept this review for what it's worth. He did not thoroughly research! He said “All the information we have on her is based on deeply mediocre and biased biographies.” Anonymous sources, friends who she ended up speaking to because they were selling her information, a bunch of biographies that can’t be trusted, including Morton’s “OK!“ when she lied to him. This is all true. But here is where unfortunately, he missed the mark.Michael did not research Lady Colin Campbell (LCC) or her two Diana books. LCC did a comprehensive and in depth biography on Diana - and she personally knew Diana. Because of her own family history, she knew many of the same people that Diana knew; she also ran in many of the same circles. There was nothing much that Diana did that couldn’t have been researched more fully if she wanted more information. To listen to LCC talk about it, Diana had said “This is my get out of jail card!” - because she wanted out of the Royal Family (RF) - referring to Lady Colin Campbell‘s (scheduled) authorized biography on her. They initially worked together on the book. LCC was happy to go along with that, as long as she was telling the truth in her book. About half way through, Diana went from having nothing against Charles, speaking well of him, to suddenly “Charles is a cheater, a monster, a horrible father; Camilla is the problem in our marriage, etc. etc.” And that is what Diana presented to Morton, who -- as Michael himself says in the podcast -- just accepted her word as truth when it was not. Lady Colin Campbell knew that Charles was going to be unfairly ambushed, and she did not agree with that. She even says had it been true, she would have ambushed him herself in the book. However she knew that Diana wanted to paint a public picture of herself as a victim. Diana pulled the plug on Lady Colin Campbell‘s book, and instead went to Morton, who published the story that Diana wanted the world to hear. Andrew Neil, Rupert Murdoch, and others, all denigrated the Royal Family (RF) for years based on Morton’s book. The RF was called cold, harsh, and cruel. And Diana, of course, was the victim. Lady Colin Campbell went ahead anyway, and her book was published & released BEFORE Morton’s book. It was every bit as explosive, but it was actually true. The book was entitled “Diana in Private: The Princess Nobody Knows”. Diana was sweet, but she was not totally innocent - and she was no victim.Just thought I would point that out. Again, I say Michael Hobbes is a gifted and entertaining storyteller, and he is also hilarious. I break out laughing often listening to him. Thanks!
Another fantastic episode! More stuff I never knew, and I thought I knew it all!
