Micro Terrors. Scary
1:02
stories for kids. Where
1:06
it's always the spooky season. Full
1:10
of chills. Thrills.
1:16
And spine-tingling spooks.
1:19
Micro Terrors are family-friendly frights for
1:21
those ages 8 and up. And
1:25
while our stories are for younger
1:27
years, we are still talking about
1:29
things that go bump in the night. And
1:32
some children may not be able
1:34
to handle what others can. Parental
1:37
consent is recommended. Now
1:41
for tonight's Micro Terror.
1:49
Onion Soup by Radar DeBord.
1:54
Marco dragged his spoon around the inside of his
1:56
bowl as his father came back to the table.
1:59
His dad sat down. down with a smile on
2:01
his face and wasted no time digging into his
2:03
second helping in the soup.
2:05
After slurping up a few more
2:07
spoonfuls, his dad finally noticed he
2:09
wasn't eating. "'What's wrong,
2:12
kiddo?' his father asked, before taking a
2:14
loud slurp of soup. Marco
2:17
sighed as he stared down at the nasty-looking
2:19
food. "'It's nothing, Dad.
2:22
I just don't like onions.' His
2:25
father nodded. "'I know you don't, kiddo, but
2:27
we don't really have money for anything else.'
2:30
After a long pause, he said, "'Tell
2:32
you what, you have yourself a
2:34
couple more spoonfuls and you can
2:36
be excused from the table. Plus,
2:38
I promise, I'll make something different
2:40
for dinner tomorrow night.' How
2:42
does that sound?" Marco smiled
2:44
at his dad and suggested, "'Can it
2:47
be meatloaf?' his father
2:49
chuckled. "'You and your
2:51
meatloaf. OK, OK,
2:53
I'll make meatloaf, I promise.'
2:57
With his dad's promise set in stone,
2:59
Marco eagerly began to slurp down the
3:02
onion soup. It certainly
3:04
didn't taste any better than before, but the
3:06
idea that he would be getting meatloaf tomorrow
3:08
made it a lot easier to eat. He
3:11
slurped up five or six spoonfuls and
3:13
pushed himself back from the table, his
3:15
chair making a sound as it was
3:18
dragged back on the hardwood floor. "'OK,
3:20
I'm done,' he said, standing up. His
3:23
father gave him a nod to let him know
3:25
he could leave and he raced upstairs to his
3:27
room to play the new game he had downloaded
3:29
onto his tablet over the weekend. Throughout
3:33
the next few hours, he would randomly think about
3:35
the soup and how nasty it had been. Why
3:38
did his dad have to put veggies
3:40
in everything? They always
3:42
tasted bad and if something tasted
3:46
how could it be good for someone to eat it? Of
3:49
course, it didn't help that he hated onions
3:51
more than any other kind of vegetable and
3:53
there was no way he would ever eat
3:55
onion soup again. No matter
3:58
what deals his dad made with meatloaf, he would have to do it. with
4:00
him he wasn't going to eat that soup.
4:03
He continued to think about how much he
4:05
hated onions until his dad tucked him in
4:07
for the night and he drifted off to
4:09
sleep. Late
4:13
into the night Marco randomly woke up.
4:16
He checked his clock seeing that it was just
4:18
before two in the morning and then glanced at
4:20
his window to see that it was still dark
4:23
outside. He didn't understand why
4:25
he'd woken up but decided to
4:27
ignore it and go back to sleep. As
4:30
he closed his eyes there was a very quiet
4:32
creaking noise that reached his ears. Upon
4:35
hearing that sound he opened his eyes and scanned
4:37
his room. Another creak sounded
4:40
and he looked at his closet door.
4:42
The door was open just a
4:44
crack which creeped Marco out because
4:46
he always kept his closet closed.
4:50
He stared at the door and after a few
4:52
minutes another
4:54
creaking noise came as the closet opened
4:56
a little bit more. Marco
4:59
gasped and pulled his blanket up to his
5:01
chin as the door opened a little more.
5:06
He wanted to run out of the room or scream
5:08
for his dad to come help him but
5:10
he was too scared so he just pulled
5:12
his blanket up a little more. Suddenly
5:15
the door to the closet swung wide
5:17
open and Marco
5:20
jumped in surprise. Only
5:22
a few seconds went by before a nasty
5:24
looking hand poked out from the closet. Slowly
5:27
the rest of the body the hand
5:30
belonged to came into the room. Marco
5:33
got a good look at the thing
5:35
that had just left his closet and
5:37
it was the scariest creature he had
5:39
ever seen. It was a big,
5:42
fat monster with purple skin that
5:44
looked like it was covered in
5:46
slime. The thing had really
5:48
long fingers and sharp teeth that were
5:50
easy to see because it was smiling.
5:53
The monster also had super short legs that
5:55
didn't have any knees so it waddled like
5:58
a penguin when it walked. Marco
6:00
was so terrified of the monster that he
6:02
couldn't speak and he couldn't leave his bed.
6:05
All he could do was watch
6:07
as the spooky creature slowly moved
6:09
toward him. Eventually it
6:11
reached his bed and looked down at Marco
6:14
while licking its lips. Yum,
6:17
you look tasty, it said
6:19
in a super low voice.
6:23
Marco trembled in fear, but he managed to say,
6:25
Please don't eat me, don't eat
6:28
me! The
6:30
monster chuckled before moving its long fingers
6:32
down and pulling the blanket away from
6:34
Marco. It continued to lick
6:36
its lips as drool began to run down
6:38
the side of its mouth. The
6:40
scary creature leaned over and opened its mouth, but
6:42
then it stopped moving. What's
6:46
that smell? The monster
6:48
asked. What smell? Marco
6:50
replied as he still shook in fear.
6:52
The monster sniffed the air a few
6:54
times before turning its attention back to
6:56
Marco. It
7:00
got a few inches away from him and gave him a
7:02
big whiff and
7:05
then it frowned. Immediately it took
7:07
a step back from the bed and covered its nose
7:09
with its big fingers. Eww,
7:12
you smell like onions,
7:14
he said. I
7:17
hate onions. Then
7:19
the monster waddled back to the closet. As
7:22
it shut the door, the monster said, You
7:24
stink, kid. Marco
7:27
sat in his bed, staring at
7:29
the closet while thinking about everything that had
7:31
just happened. He kept thinking
7:34
about how the monster had said it
7:36
hated onions and how it had called
7:38
him stinky. After
7:40
a few minutes, his fear went away and he jumped
7:42
out of bed. He ran down the
7:45
stairs and headed for the kitchen to see if
7:47
there was any of the onion soup. He left.
7:50
From now on, he was going
7:52
to eat as many stinky vegetables
7:54
as possible. Especially
7:57
onions. Thank
