I’m Seth Vertelney with Goal, and this is the American women’s soccer news you need to know today.
The U.S. women’s national team defeated Australia 4-3 on Thursday in the Olympic bronze medal match.
Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd each scored two goals in what could be the veteran duo’s final appearance at a major tournament for the U.S.
Lloyd, who is 39, hinted after the game that she could be announcing her retirement soon, saying: "I haven't made any official announcement yet but obviously I'm at the tail end of my career.
"Physically I feel really good but at some point I have to hang up the boots and live life.”
The U.S. entered the Olympics as favorites to win gold but will have to be content with the first bronze medal in the program’s history.
In the gold medal match, Sweden and Canada are set to face off, but after the game was originally scheduled for 11am local time on Friday, it has now been moved to 9pm local time to mitigate the heat and humidity in Tokyo.
