Meghan:We're in for it. So, uh, tyler, we picked you personally, hand selected you to talk about this topic that we know a lot of people struggle with as they want to grow into being seen as a leader. This is a massive fear that we hear about all the time and I feel like it's one of those that you kind of have to come to grips with in order to evolve into that next level of business. Be Seen as a leader or a leader in your space for whatever it is that you're doing. And it's this concept of how much is too much to give away for free. Probably want to chat with you about today, but before we get in on that, I want to know—we're unapologetic leaders. We love talking to our guests about what leader means to them. So we're curious. Let's just, let's go hard right out of the gate. What does a leader look like to you in this space? What does it mean to you? What do you define as a leader? How do you pick someone that you consider to be a leader?

Tyler McCall:I feel like I'm at a job interview right now, so I really, I really hope I get the position. So thanks for considering me. Um, you know, it's interesting. I was thinking about this question before we started and um, because you provided your guests notes, which is very helpful. Thank you.

Meghan:We take care of our babies.

Tyler McCall:So I was thinking about this concept of leader and the thing that kept coming to me was like leaders should shrink. Does that make sense? Like leaders should—Leaders should kind of almost ceased to exist in a way and allow the community that they lead to exist because of them because because they helped create that community and create that space but not for them. Does that make sense?

Yeah. So I mean that's Kinda, it Kinda goes back to like servant leadership, right? Like we've heard this idea before and my background's in the nonprofit world, which is very, very servant leadership-y of all like you lead by serving you lead by like by, by leading, by supporting and serving people that you are supposed to be the leader for. But I feel like even more so, especially for me at this phase in my business is I think like how can I lead? It's about getting out of the way most of the time and and creating a space for people and setting the tone and setting the expectation and making sure that they're supported in that space but, but allowing people to, to kind of figure things out and work through things on their own with you as their cheerleader and supporter and kind of the person, like making the path for them, but they got to walk on the path themselves. You're not going to drag them down the path

Meghan:I’m picturing grabbing someone by their hair and dragging them down the street.

Tyler McCall:Right, exactly. But you can't do that because that's not leading and that's just like, that's like, I don't know, doing it for someone, so that's what, that's what leadership means to me at this phase in my life and my entrepreneurial journey. Who knows what it will look like a year from now, but I don't know. That's what I'm feeling. That's what I'm feeling right now.

Laura:I love that. I also have a background in nonprofit, that interpretation of leaders in a healthier version of the serpent kind of mentality because I think when you get too far into the servant mentality as a leader, like it's just you've got no boundaries, like you've got nothing that you keep for yourself and that's why so many people in nonprofit, myself included, got really burnt out. Exactly. So I liked that. It's a much healthier approach to the servant mentality. That's awesome.

Tyler McCall:Thank you.

I feel like the servant leadership model, like eventually what happens, what I saw happen in the nonprofit world I was in and even in my own role and in that space was I, instead of serving the people I was supposed to lead, I just ended up doing it myself. Feeling like they weren't capable or like they couldn't do it or like they didn't know how to do it or like it wouldn't be done correctly and that's not leadership that's just doing it. It's just doing the work. Right?
