Sad story. The tale of the lonely Professor.

My good friend Mike the Gardener classifies people into clever stupid and stupid clever. He classifies me as clever stupid which an extended education has done little to change. Mike believes (correctly) he has a far greater grasp of how the experienced world operates. I think he’s using the terms in a far from stupid way to avoid giving offence.

Here’s an example of clever stupid in Mike’s terms. I have changed names and disguised some features in this story which appeared in several of the media as it unfolded.

Our person of interest I refer to as John. John was a theoretical physicist, teaching in a prestigious University. 

John was in his late sixties when our story starts. He was very lonely. divorced and had no children. 

A few years earlier he started chatting with someone on a dating app. This person - who called herself Yvonne - said she was a Romanian bikini model.
