This is John Benoit Samuelson, and you're

0:02

listening to trained body and mind.

0:04

Oh, hello. Welcome

0:07

to trained body and mind. A podcast

0:09

exploring the cutting edge of holistic fitness.

0:11

I'm your host, Jacqueline Beyer. Each

0:14

episode, I connect with the world's leading experts

0:16

and athletes to talk about mindset. Movement,

0:19

nutrition, recovery, and sleep.

0:21

What we like to call the five facets of fitness.

0:24

Today, for our one hundredth episode of Train,

0:27

I'm talking with a Nike yoga teacher. I

0:29

highly recommend you check out in the NTC

0:31

app. He's also a CrossFit coach,

0:33

a quest students, ceramicist, and a

0:35

firm believer in making meditation a regular

0:38

part of your wellness routine.

0:41

Meditation is like when you really

0:44

see yourself with

0:46

our mask, with our filters,

0:48

you know. And for me, it's been really

0:51

helpful because it's been a way to really,

0:53

you know, get over old traumas

0:55

or get better with my depression

0:58

because it was showing me, like, one needs to work.

1:01

On was the underlying problem

1:03

here. So I think meditation

1:06

actually brings you closer to yourself.

1:10

That's Fabienne Domenech, and he's definitely

1:12

someone who embraces life. He's traveled

1:14

all over the world, tried his hand at a career

1:17

in fashion, And today, he's

1:19

doing big things in the fitness space.

1:21

In our conversation, Fabienne does take

1:24

the mask off and he gets very real.

1:26

I can't think of a better way to celebrate Trains

1:29

one hundredth episode. Then with Fabian

1:31

telling us how tapping into the mind body

1:33

connection through yoga and meditation, have

1:35

helped him love and embrace his most authentic

1:38

self. Let's

1:43

be honest, I think Instagram can make you love or

1:45

leave people, but your IG vibe is so

1:47

good. Thanks. You have all

1:49

the things on there that I personally get very excited

1:52

about, which is crossfit, yoga, dogs,

1:54

plants, tattoos, and then

1:56

the editor in me, which really appreciates your

1:59

very tight captions. Thank

2:02

you. You know, I'm not alone in this because there

2:04

are fifty three plus people who follow

2:06

you. I wanna get into

2:08

a couple of your captions because I love your

2:10

tone of voice on Instagram. It's punchy.

2:12

You know, sometimes it's really witty. But

2:14

it almost always provokes thought and

2:17

action. And I think that's a really hard combo to

2:19

crack. So I wanna check a second to recognize

2:21

that. And I've actually pulled a few of

2:23

your quotes for us to unpack

2:26

a little

2:26

bit. So are you ready? Oh,

2:27

bring it on. Yeah. Okay. So first

2:30

one, willingness to show up is an act

2:32

of bravery. I'm gonna put you

2:34

on the spot here. What would you say the bravest

2:36

thing you've ever done is?

2:38

Oh my god. Being

2:41

my true self, removing

2:43

the

2:43

mask, and just showing who you are to people.

2:46

I think that's the bravest thing. How

2:48

would you describe your true self? Oh,

2:50

I'm still trying to figure out because

2:52

we are constantly changing and evolving.

2:55

I think we always have to keep discovering

2:58

who we are on a daily

2:59

basis. Won't mind today? What's happening? And we'll

3:01

have a change? What

3:02

are some of the things you do that?

3:05

Meditation for sure. I think it's a it's

3:07

a great way to look at yourself in the

3:09

mirror, see who you are that day,

3:11

and what's happening. Sometimes it is a

3:13

bit ugly, you know, like a reflection

3:15

in the

3:16

mirror. Sometimes it's a it's a beautiful

3:18

princess, so it just depends on the day.

3:21

What's your style and meditation? Do you

3:24

do a self guided? Do you use an

3:26

app? I do self guided,

3:28

so I love to just guide myself, and I

3:31

do love music. So I

3:33

use music just to get into the

3:35

administrative state.

3:37

Very cool. Alright. Next one gets

3:39

a little deep too. Alright.

3:42

Like the moon, we all must go through phases

3:44

of emptiness to be full. So

3:46

I'd love for

3:47

you to talk about a time when you we're

3:49

running on empty and then what that taught

3:51

you? Mhmm.

3:53

Today, I wanna talk a bit about

3:55

mental health, something I've never done before

3:57

in public. Just my closest friends,

4:00

they know, my struggle meant to health and depression.

4:02

But that's not something I have really

4:05

this close to people in public. So

4:07

know many people know about it. So I

4:09

think that quote comes from really like feeling

4:12

at your lowest, feeling depleted, feeling

4:14

empty, and then when you really

4:17

touch rock bottom is when you're able

4:19

to come up, you

4:21

know, and it's like, right, what did that happen?

4:23

What did that period. Do you know

4:25

if Latin has taught

4:26

me? Thank you for sharing

4:28

that. I think it's really tough to talk

4:31

about that in a setting like this too.

4:34

It is, but I think it is my duty and responsibility

4:37

to get my mask off.

4:39

Again, be myself. So if

4:41

I do that, maybe I can inspire the

4:43

people and, like, maybe people

4:46

don't feel so alone. So

4:48

by listening to someone just Maybe

4:50

a little bit. I don't want to go into fully

4:52

tilt because I'm a be

4:54

vulnerable talking about these, but

4:56

just a little bit. And I think I can

4:58

help other people as well. Yeah. I

5:00

think that's so cool and it's one of the things that

5:02

I love about this show. We've really evolved

5:04

to spend a little bit more time in

5:06

the mental health and mindset space. And I

5:09

think even just admitting

5:12

that you struggle is enough to

5:14

let people know that they're not

5:16

alone and you don't have to share the details of

5:18

that. Because, again, we're talking about Instagram. Right? We're

5:20

pulling clothes from Instagram. We're talking about this

5:22

life that you're showing, and I think that's

5:24

what people get caught up

5:25

in, assuming, like, everything's always

5:28

that perfect.

5:29

It's perfect and you have everything figured

5:31

out and thus not the

5:33

case at all. Yeah. And I mean, you're traveling

5:36

the world and you're living this amazing life,

5:38

and I'm sure there are some really high highs,

5:40

but you're still human and you've experienced

5:42

lows like the rest of us. So thank

5:44

you for sharing that. Where would you put yourself now

5:46

on that empty full spectrum? Like, how

5:48

are you in this moment?

5:51

A bit lower at the moment, to be honest. Love for

5:54

the last year has been really hard. That way, it's

5:56

normally the best time to go four

5:58

in and talking about it because I'm still

6:00

not feeling hundred percent

6:02

myself. Maybe something that we can

6:04

discuss as well. It's like I

6:06

think now that I'm thirty three years

6:08

old, I've achieved many goals

6:10

and I've done many things and

6:12

the more I achieve the more I do and the

6:14

more comfortable my life is, the more depressed

6:16

I am and I feel. So that's

6:18

something I'm addressing now and it's Right?

6:20

Well, is it? You know, because happiness, it wasn't at the

6:22

end of the road. You know, like, I got there

6:24

and I found that and I achieved that and

6:26

it's like, Tom,

6:28

I feel my I'm my lowest. So

6:30

what what is it? What's going on?

6:32

Yeah. We had Maria Watan. We

6:35

had a similar conversation of just almost like

6:38

achievement syndrome, right, where you there

6:40

are a lot of people who are very goal oriented,

6:42

and I think you get in that

6:45

grind of always wanting the next thing and then you

6:47

have to step back and say, well, where does it end? And

6:49

when do I just appreciate the moment

6:51

that I'm in? And it's gonna be a

6:53

process. Right? Like, as

6:55

much as anybody who's struggling wants to

6:57

just snap their fingers and feel better,

7:00

just acknowledging that it's

7:02

just a journey that we're all on is

7:04

important. Exactly. Love

7:06

that. So the next one, this kind of

7:08

segues us into that, which is change your narrative

7:11

change your life. How does that guide you

7:13

through your

7:14

day? Through life? Yeah. Well, ten year

7:17

monarity is really changing are

7:20

the things that I've I've been through, you know,

7:22

since the very early age,

7:24

you know, I've gone through like

7:26

being an immigrant, you know, being

7:28

bullied at school, growing up queer,

7:32

being in a family that was an emotionally

7:34

available, moving countries

7:36

several times. Now having the

7:38

money to study or, like,

7:40

I'm just really changing the narrative for all

7:42

the things that I've gone through and they're stuck

7:44

in in my subconscious, I

7:46

need my heart, and it's like,

7:48

right, how can I go and laugh to the

7:50

places that I cried

7:51

before? Just pretty much what

7:53

I'm trying to do. You mentioned traveling,

7:56

moving a lot. The last

7:58

quote I'll make you I'll make you think

8:00

about here is home is what you take

8:02

with you, not what you leave. Behind.

8:05

So what have you

8:07

learned that you need to feel at home,

8:10

whether you're traveling or moving some more different?

8:13

Just self love. Just loving yourself.

8:15

Mhmm. My first move, you know, the country

8:17

was when I was eleven, you know, with my family.

8:19

But then I go into the habits of doing the same and

8:21

I didn't wanna twenty one, and then when I was twenty

8:23

six, and then when I was twenty eight, you know, I

8:25

always moving and going for another

8:27

country, for another experience. And I'm always looking

8:29

for that thing, you

8:31

know, like, well, I'm gonna find myself. And

8:34

I never did. When I got to

8:36

a new country, it was like, oh, I feel the

8:38

same. You know, whatever I was looking for.

8:40

It wasn't here. It wasn't in India. It

8:42

wasn't in Bali. It wasn't in Italy. You know all of

8:44

it. And it's like, think

8:46

it's within. You

8:47

know, it's about feeling the void,

8:49

you know, that I feel just with my own self

8:51

love. So let's talk

8:53

about all of the the traveling

8:55

that you've done. You know, it's been such a big part

8:57

of your life and you've moved at

8:59

least across three continents.

9:01

Right? Yeah. So what have you

9:03

noticed about how different

9:06

cultures approach fitness differently?

9:08

There's a

9:08

bit of an obsession about as

9:11

well fitness in Europe,

9:13

maybe a bit more oriented

9:15

to achieving more

9:18

about performance, I think,

9:20

in Europe. Then South America is quite

9:22

similarly. You know, I'm from Argentina, so

9:24

there's not much difference to you in a

9:26

European country. And then in Asia, obviously,

9:28

there should be more spiritual work

9:30

and there's more like devotion

9:33

and prayers and and I love

9:35

that. You know, I got that awakened

9:37

another side of myself. About

9:39

being a bit more

9:41

devoted, you know, to something bigger than

9:43

myself. Mhmm. That's really

9:45

eye opening. Where do you

9:46

think the most exciting things in fitness are

9:48

happening right now? Yeah. I

9:50

think the well, the world is probably testing.

9:52

It's just saturated with

9:55

options and things and methods and

9:57

every day there's something new going on. You know,

9:59

there's a new method. Something that's gonna get you something

10:01

that is, oh, this is the shortcut. This is the

10:04

I've got the secret, you know. Like,

10:06

I tried to to keep simple.

10:08

love Crossfeed and I keep doing Crossfeed every

10:10

twenty four years and just my yoga

10:12

and meditation and then just being outdoors

10:14

whatever it is. Maybe running

10:17

by the beach or just going on a hike.

10:19

So that's my way of doing it.

10:21

So I'm not really at following

10:23

the trends of what's the last

10:25

thing. So for

10:26

me, simplicity is is key. I

10:29

love to hear that I relate to it so much. I think

10:31

one of the things that I

10:33

get so frustrated with with the fitness industry

10:35

is that it feels so

10:36

gimmicky. Mhmm.

10:38

You know, I don't think that there are shortcuts.

10:40

I cringe when there's,

10:42

like, the word, fit hack or

10:44

things like

10:44

that, like, you know, that stuff where it's just

10:46

like Me too. I think the message needs to

10:48

be, like, you just have to put in the work, and

10:51

it's a commitment. Do they work? Yeah. It's

10:53

a journey, but, like, there are no shortcuts.

10:57

After the break, Fabian talks about

10:59

finding yoga. How the practice of it varies

11:01

around the world, and his dream of

11:03

becoming the next Vivian Westwood.

11:11

So

11:20

you're doing this traveling. You're

11:23

finding yourself. You're on your journey. At some

11:25

point, you felt the calling to do something

11:27

very specific. Can you talk a little bit

11:29

about what that calling was and how

11:31

you recognize that feeling?

11:33

Two thousand sixteen, I was living in

11:36

London. I've just graduated from,

11:38

you know, my yoga teacher

11:40

training course So I have been

11:42

teaching for, I think, four months. So I

11:44

was a fairly new yoga teacher,

11:47

and I was done.

11:49

I was like, London is not for me anymore.

11:51

Like, this is a right race. Like, always running.

11:53

There's always about doing

11:55

more, having more, and not

11:57

having time for anything and it was

11:59

a very material oriented

12:02

city. I lost London. I was there for seven years and

12:04

I lost every minute of it. Some point, I

12:06

was like, okay, I'm done. I'm

12:08

burned out and that's

12:10

one of these IV, like, I'm gonna leave everything

12:12

behind just I'm gonna take one backpack

12:14

with me and I went to India just

12:16

to do a backpack in trip and I did it

12:18

for a year and a half. And that

12:20

was a breaking point for me in my life. That was when

12:22

I left perfectionism behind,

12:25

having everything figure out, like all the

12:27

planning and like, everything has to be

12:29

superstructure. It was like, no, you know, I'm

12:31

just gonna flip it and just gonna

12:33

go the other way around and just gonna leave the day and

12:35

I'm gonna when I'm gonna be tomorrow and

12:37

gonna spews new thing, gonna be on my own,

12:39

and gonna just see a new culture

12:41

and that was really fulfilling. You know, that

12:43

wasn't something that really changed

12:45

me a bit. And after being in

12:47

India for six months, it was like, yeah, I'm fine

12:50

with anything. Whatever it comes to me, like, I'm gonna

12:52

appreciate everything and I'm gonna be

12:54

really

12:54

flexible. And that was great. That was a great

12:56

teaching for me. Was London the

12:58

time when you were doing all

13:00

the fashion stuff with your brand? And

13:02

is that what made it feel so toxic?

13:05

Like, what led up to that moment where

13:07

you needed to get away.

13:09

London was

13:10

really interesting. You know, I moved to London because

13:12

of love. So I met

13:14

an English man here when I

13:16

was in Spain. I fell in love

13:18

when I moved to London and I was like, yeah, I'm

13:20

feeling something. I don't know where it is. I'm just gonna go for

13:22

it, and I left everything behind. And again, I moved to

13:24

London just for somebody else. Back

13:26

then, I was studying fashion. I was really

13:28

into fashion. And

13:30

I went too long with the idea of, like, I'm gonna

13:32

be a fashion designer. I'm gonna be the next,

13:35

busy on Westboards. Oh,

13:37

that. And then, yeah, nothing

13:40

went as planned. Nothing.

13:42

The relationship didn't work out.

13:44

Fashion didn't work. Like it was

13:46

really hard to be known and just to

13:48

have a place, you know, in the fashion industry.

13:51

I started working in

13:53

a restaurant. In in

13:55

Soho in London. And actually, that

13:57

was that was amazing. There

13:59

were three amazing years that

14:01

what I learned so much

14:03

about people's

14:05

skills, about discipline,

14:07

about organization, about

14:09

myself, because hospitality is

14:11

very

14:11

tough, and I lost it. And

14:13

then how did you find yoga during

14:15

that time? First have

14:17

found CrossFit. So

14:19

that was my first encounter with, like,

14:22

I'm not gonna say that a bit

14:24

of a a try for cocoons. You know, and

14:26

that's when I felt like, oh my god, I

14:28

belong somewhere. You know, like, this is great. I

14:30

community, I see people, and I talk to them,

14:32

and it's not like going just the gym and

14:34

just putting your headphones on and it's like,

14:36

they know my name and, like, we felt

14:38

like, okay, I have my

14:40

community. And I fell in love with CrossFit and I

14:42

was training every day and then the

14:44

owner was like, you should become a coach, you

14:46

know, if you love me so much, you know, and they

14:48

did support me. To get my

14:50

certification, and I started working there, and I

14:52

was teaching, you know, grocery at the same time, and I

14:54

was working in the restaurant, leaving

14:56

fashion to the stylist, like, I'm not gonna

14:58

try a few courses, well, like, was trying to,

15:00

like, juggle, you know, with the fashion. And

15:02

now Crossfeed is coming into

15:04

place and now have to do my

15:06

forty hours in the restaurant. So I was like,

15:08

it was a lot, you know. Yeah.

15:10

So I found you coming back to your

15:12

question, I found yoga just in

15:14

the gym and I cannot really

15:16

recall the exact class on how it

15:18

was, but somehow I

15:20

got hooked and I kept

15:22

going. When I was there, it was

15:24

like, oh, you know, I feel better

15:26

somehow and I didn't know why or I

15:28

didn't have to pinpoint what was. Mhmm.

15:31

And then a job

15:33

landed on my door about

15:35

managing a yoga studio. And I was

15:37

like, yeah, fine. I'm

15:39

gonna go for it. Like, I mean, and

15:41

then the owners again told me, oh, if you love

15:43

yoga so much, why don't you do the training? You

15:45

know, just become a teacher and it's like,

15:47

sure. Let me try this. Why not? And

15:49

I did become a teacher. And at

15:52

some point, I was like, managing the yoga

15:53

studio. I was teaching CrossFit. I was

15:56

a yoga teacher. Oh

15:57

my god. Again, trying to manage all

15:59

the things. And at the end of that

16:02

period, it was well, I'm done. I'm going. You

16:04

know, I'm leaving everything. I'm going to India. I

16:06

don't know what four, I'm I'm out. So

16:08

that's pretty much how it happened in a

16:10

nutshell.

16:10

Okay. I mean, you know, there

16:12

are only so many hours in the day. I

16:14

think, like, you were you

16:16

were definitely on a one way road to

16:18

that moment. What

16:20

do you like about that combo

16:22

of yoga and crossfit?

16:25

They complement each other very well. And I think

16:27

both of them make you feel a

16:29

sense of belonging to a community,

16:31

which is very important know, we

16:33

are social animals and we need to

16:35

find that community and that like many

16:37

people that they and the same roof, you

16:39

know, you have the same interest. And that's

16:41

why, you know, I found yoga and crossfit

16:43

both of them really fulfilling because

16:45

I was not feeling again,

16:48

coming back to fitting in or just belonging

16:51

somewhere because I always grew up

16:53

with a sense of like being

16:55

weird and being super different

16:58

I'm being, yeah, like

17:00

a misfit. When you said that you

17:02

found cross at first and then

17:04

you found yoga, did you notice

17:06

your cross performance changing at all once you

17:08

started doing yoga

17:08

regularly? Yeah. Definitely.

17:12

I wasn't very

17:14

flexible back then. It was, I'm not

17:16

a natural flexible person. So I kind of have

17:18

to work through them paying,

17:21

you know, sessions with your guy just to get a

17:23

bit of ability and it it it helped me, you know, definitely in

17:25

the crossing movements for

17:26

sure. Do you have any advice for people who

17:29

are trying to balance different

17:32

modalities like, let's say you have an

17:34

exercise plate. How might

17:36

you help someone choose their

17:38

entree and then one or two

17:40

side dishes? Like, finding those things

17:42

that go together that can

17:44

really complement each other like you have

17:46

with yoga and

17:47

crossfit. Guys, something so personal.

17:49

I always wanna say, like, what's

17:51

my personal plate? You know, but I will never

17:53

tell two person. Oh, you should do that.

17:55

You know, like, oh, this should be your play. You it's like you decide

17:57

what's good for you and what works for you. Like,

17:59

it's your coffee in the morning. So it's up to you how

18:01

you drink it, you know. Mhmm. You like a decaf

18:04

Americano, so for you, you found it. You

18:06

know, I'm having a green tea, so

18:08

that's my thing. But for my in my

18:10

case, you know, I like to have this

18:12

strength component and the intensity which

18:14

is cross fit. They'll be more like

18:17

young, strong, and competitive, and

18:19

achieving, and really sweating, and

18:21

they're more Yin part,

18:23

which, for me, is yoga more

18:25

introspective, slowing down, just

18:27

taking the reins of my breath,

18:30

listening to my body because sometimes when you're doing

18:32

cross

18:32

video, no actually listen to anything. Yeah. I

18:34

read that you said that yoga brings you

18:36

closer to yourself without apologies. Is that what you mean

18:38

by that? Well,

18:40

more than yoga and Fabricele

18:43

is actually meditation,

18:45

which is a simple it's an advanced

18:47

form of yoga. Mhmm. Because yoga

18:49

sometimes is good to

18:51

concentrate and to focus the mind. But

18:53

you're still moving. You're still doing things. You're

18:56

still thinking about, oh,

18:58

where's my hand? Where's my leg? You know?

19:00

Like, sometimes it's

19:02

just very physical. And it's just it's great

19:04

for the mind to, like, train the mind to

19:06

just have it

19:08

focus on one thing. But meditation is, like,

19:10

when you really see

19:14

yourself with our mask,

19:16

with our filters, you know. And for

19:18

me, it's been really helpful because it's been

19:20

a way to really you know, get over

19:23

old trauma or get better

19:25

with my depression because it was

19:27

showing me, like, one needs to

19:29

work. On was the underlying problem

19:31

here. So I think

19:33

meditation actually brings you closer to

19:36

yourself. Yeah. I think it highlights the difference

19:38

between mindfulness and meditation, and I think

19:40

that there are different ways to be mindful,

19:42

but that meditation itself

19:44

is its own specific thing, and we should, you know, give

19:46

care to that and pay attention to that and really

19:48

honor that.

19:49

Taunting. So I'm

19:50

gonna run a few statistics by you.

19:53

The global yoga market is valued

19:55

at tens of billions of dollars.

19:57

Participation in the US has

19:59

nearly tripled over the past decade and

20:02

up more than a hundred and fifty percent during

20:04

the pandemic alone. And then the

20:06

top three reasons that Americans give

20:08

for taking yoga are decreasing

20:11

tension, increasing strength

20:13

and boosting mood. So I'm curious if

20:15

any of these statistics surprise

20:18

you. No.

20:19

Actually, it doesn't surprise me. I think and

20:21

it's gonna keep keep keep growing. I think

20:23

we will need yoga in

20:26

our lives somehow. Just to

20:29

to be centered to improve us

20:32

humans. Because there are so

20:33

many people there very few humans. So I think

20:36

yoga makes you human.

20:39

I love that. Mhmm. That's

20:41

so true. My gosh. Okay. So

20:43

we touched on this idea a little

20:45

bit ago, just sort of about the way different

20:47

culture's approach fitness differently, but I wanna go a

20:49

little deeper on yoga here, since you've taught

20:51

around the world. Right? How many countries have

20:53

you taught yoga?

20:55

Ten, maybe I

20:55

don't know, maybe more, twelve,

20:58

fifteen, a few. A few.

21:00

Okay. Do you feel that

21:02

yoga is drastically different in these different

21:05

cultures. Do you change

21:07

the way you teach based on

21:09

where you're teaching?

21:11

No. I think being authentic is something

21:14

I try all

21:16

the time. You know, that's a matter where you are. You don't

21:18

have to change just

21:20

to fit in, you know. Like, just be who you are, that's somebody where

21:22

you are, sometimes you will be like, sometimes

21:25

disliked, but I think authenticity

21:27

is key. Because people know

21:29

when you're being real or you're

21:31

just being the yoga teacher that

21:33

they need at the time. So mean,

21:36

I have to say with that, in

21:38

India, it's very different.

21:40

The year that we know in the

21:42

west. Is very, very different. I

21:44

think we have changed

21:47

yoga just to fit our culture

21:49

and our needs. But when

21:51

you go to India, it's like, oh,

21:53

okay. This is a really

21:55

spiritual practice. And this is a really

21:57

disciplined and it's

21:59

a really tough is very traditional

22:02

is a philosophy. So I would

22:04

say that the most different country where I experienced

22:06

yoga is in India. For sure.

22:08

Interesting. You

22:09

know, I think that some people think

22:11

that yoga maybe has lost its soul.

22:13

You know, it's a roughly five thousand

22:15

year old discipline. But

22:18

is it today

22:20

a big business, elitist,

22:22

noninclusive? Like, what do you think? Do you think

22:25

it still has its roots? All

22:27

of it, yoga is so

22:29

broad and there are so many

22:32

schools and yoga teachers and

22:34

stuff that is really hard to keep up.

22:36

So yoga can be

22:38

anything you're ready for or are you

22:40

looking for. So

22:42

if you want the crazies and the way

22:44

there's your class, you'll find it. If you want something

22:46

extra traditional and very ancient

22:48

wisdom, you'll find it. You know? Like, So

22:50

it's so broad that it's really difficult to say,

22:52

like, yeah, this is

22:53

yoga. Well, given that I'd love to

22:56

hear your approach to teaching

22:58

yoga, can you? Share your

23:00

style, your guiding principles? So

23:02

when I teach, you

23:05

know, I'd like to really empower people to be

23:07

themselves and to It's

23:09

really hard to say that. I

23:11

don't know. Let's say over people most of the

23:13

time end up crying at the end of the class, but not as

23:15

a cry of that. I'm so sad.

23:18

Is that that I'm so

23:20

liberated. People have

23:23

that moment and sometimes it's

23:25

just tears of, like, releasing

23:27

of joy or, like, those things.

23:29

And for me, that's, like, great. When I see someone

23:31

crying, they're going, like, oh my god. I'm so sorry, they're going,

23:33

like, Oh, yes. Leave it. You know, get it out. Leave

23:35

it outside. You know, you don't need that

23:38

anymore. So people say that,

23:40

like, classes are intense when it comes

23:42

to physical. Point of view. I

23:44

like to challenge people because maybe I'm

23:46

coming from the crossfeed as well, seeing

23:48

and it's like just challenging with strengthen

23:50

with crazy transitions. They

23:52

have intensity. But then

23:55

at value, you know, like,

23:57

What's your heart? How are you feeling today? How about these?

23:59

And just be yourself? And like

24:01

trying to dig a bit deeper into

24:04

they solve for my students. And the same time killing them with,

24:06

you know, chatirangas and push ups and

24:08

-- Mhmm. -- so kind of mix in

24:11

the both.

24:11

So if somebody were to take your yoga

24:14

workouts in the NTC app because you have a

24:16

number of them in there, what might they

24:18

expect from that experience?

24:20

So when I teach his now, I don't want people

24:22

to to be like, oh, five units of gray

24:24

or how he moves or or the

24:26

way he speaks now. It's about how

24:29

they then make them feel. So I definitely want

24:31

people to live feeling

24:33

way better than they came in

24:36

for sure.

24:37

I wanna wrap up with ceramics.

24:39

I know that you are into ceramics.

24:41

What do you love about

24:44

doing

24:44

ceramics? It's a love and relationship

24:46

to be. These

24:49

are being one of the not the bravest, but the

24:51

hardest thing or the yeah. That I've

24:53

done my life. I've been doing enough for a year and a

24:55

half. I'm still to these days. Sometimes I

24:57

want to like just send

24:59

everything. That's

25:02

true. Yeah. It's really

25:04

difficult, but when when you do

25:06

something beautiful with your hands,

25:08

from scratch, from dirt,

25:10

from a mat, you know, and that's it's

25:13

amazing. It feels like magic.

25:15

But it's a very delicate

25:18

craft that requires so much patience.

25:21

So much patience. You have

25:23

an idea. So I'm learning.

25:25

It's helping me to just become more resilient

25:27

and patient about letting

25:29

go of the outcome and just

25:31

enjoying the process.

25:33

And if I don't got one dead to

25:35

the studio and I'm not able to

25:37

do anything like beautiful, like,

25:39

then Okay. Today, it

25:41

wasn't a good day. Tomorrow maybe is

25:43

better. That's what I'm trying to

25:45

to learn. Is that another opportunity

25:47

for you to to sit there and be mindful and in the

25:49

moment because you're focusing on something that doesn't

25:51

come that easy to

25:52

you? Yeah, it's a great way to

25:55

concentrate and to train the mind again

25:57

to be just in one place. You know, it's a

25:59

form of rituals. Well, I think

26:01

we do need rituals, you know, like

26:03

something that we do, you know, on a

26:05

daily basis that we're

26:08

able to be fully present to what we're

26:10

doing. Mhmm. So some people is

26:12

making the coffee in the morning, you know. And for me,

26:14

it's just in ceramics or maybe playing with

26:16

my dog. You know, but I think ritual is

26:18

is grateful in mind and soul. To

26:20

bring

26:20

it back to where we started, you are so

26:23

multifaceted, you

26:25

know, you've had a fashion line,

26:28

ceramics now, yoga,

26:30

crossfit, you were in the

26:32

hospitality industry, rescuing

26:34

dogs, traveling the world.

26:36

But acknowledging that you're always on this

26:39

journey, you're always learning about

26:41

yourself, you're always trying to be healthier

26:43

and happier. What advice do you have for

26:45

people who are right along that journey with

26:47

you, maybe they're doing all sorts of different

26:49

things, but they're trying to find

26:50

themselves. Just maybe work a bit

26:53

on detachment. Just detach

26:55

from from as many things as

26:57

you can. You know, detach

26:59

from the things you have, detach

27:01

from expectations, detach

27:03

from the goals that you have, detach

27:05

from what people think you are, just

27:07

try to detach from all of that and

27:09

then see what

27:10

remains. See what's left and just work

27:13

on that. I love

27:15

that. Thank you. Thank you for being vulnerable.

27:17

Thank you for being fun. All the

27:19

things we are lucky to have you as part

27:21

of the NIKE

27:22

family. Thank you for having me. It was a

27:24

pleasure.

27:30

Okay. So Fabian didn't become the next

27:33

Vivian Westwood, but he

27:35

tried. I love that he brought up the spectrum

27:37

of Yintyang. I think lot of us struggle with

27:39

striking a balance between our powerful and

27:41

competitive selves and our quieter

27:43

and more introspective sides. And

27:45

then there's detachment. It

27:48

feels spot on to wrap up this one hundredth

27:50

episode of Train with Fabian's empowering

27:52

insight. Detach, see

27:54

what remains, and work on that.

27:57

exactly what the train team is going to

27:59

do. We're gonna stop making

28:01

new episodes for a bit, so we can work

28:03

on evolving our show in a few ways that

28:05

we're super excited about. But

28:07

I promise you one thing won't change.

28:09

And that's our commitment to share

28:11

provocative stories and accurate information

28:13

with you about our shared passion

28:16

for holistic fitness and wellness. And we'd love

28:18

it if you were a part of that process.

28:20
