Talk about ups and downs… Top sports presenter Gabby began 2020 by receiving an MBE, before seeing all the highlights of her year fall away – including the Tokyo Olympics.
Gabby’s MBE recognises her work in raising the status of women in sport. During the late nineties, she was one of the first to break into mainstream sports broadcasting. She’s fronted all the flagship programs like Match of the Day, BBC Sports Personality of the Year and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Numerous light entertainment appearances have broadened Gabby’s appeal, ranging from 8 Out of 10 Cats and Strictly Come Dancing to Room 101. But her most nerve-wracking moment was stepping out as Sharleen Spiteri for Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes!
The daughter of footballer Terry Yorath, Gabby competed at the 1990 Commonwealth Games as a young gymnast. She gained a Law degree but her passion for sport led to a job with Sky in 1996.
From escaping the Bradford City stadium fire to maintaining objectivity during the thrilling 2012 London Olympics, this podcast is packed with fascinating revelations. And as a fellow sports broadcaster, Ian Stafford asks all the right questions.
