Hey there and welcome back to
0:10
the One when it's Possible podcast
0:12
with Hannah Crowley . This is your
0:14
host , hannah Crowley , and we
0:17
are on episode number 20
0:19
. We're just going to dive
0:22
right into today's topic , which
0:24
is about the reasons we
0:26
do something , more specifically
0:29
, the energy or
0:31
the driving motivation behind
0:34
goals . So
0:36
we just entered a new month , right
0:39
, hello , october , it's
0:42
the final three months of
0:44
the year . We're in the fourth quarter . Well
0:47
, I guess , yeah , fourth quarter
0:50
, the final three months . You
0:52
might have set some goals . I know
0:54
I certainly did , and
0:56
this is a topic I wanted to have
0:58
a conversation about because I
1:00
see it with my clients and the people
1:02
around me , and I've also
1:05
seen it in my own goals the
1:07
energy behind the
1:09
goal , or what you're using for
1:11
your goal , really does
1:13
matter . So when I
1:15
say the energy of
1:18
our goals , I'm referring
1:20
to the motivation , determination
1:23
, the enthusiasm
1:25
that we are investing
1:27
. The energy behind
1:30
the goals is
1:32
the driving force behind our
1:35
actions and decisions , and
1:37
it's a feeling , and
1:39
the reason it matters is simple because
1:42
the stronger the energy behind your goals
1:44
, the more sustainable energy
1:47
behind them , the more likely
1:49
we are to actually achieve them , but
1:52
also the more likely we are to want
1:54
to keep going and to feel
1:56
good in the process . It's
1:59
kind of like fuel
2:01
for a car . You're
2:03
going to need to be able to tap into
2:05
that energy and
2:08
you're going to definitely need to keep producing
2:10
more of it to keep going . So
2:14
if that energy that is
2:16
fueling your goals is coming from feelings
2:19
of unworthiness
2:22
or hating
2:24
how you look and you have like self-criticism
2:27
and judgment or disgust for yourself
2:29
, if it's coming
2:31
from thinking you are going to be a better
2:33
person once you've arrived there
2:35
or you'll be more lovable
2:38
, more likable once you get
2:40
to the goal , if the energy
2:42
for the goal is coming from a lack or
2:45
your reason for having it be your goal isn't
2:47
actually even your own , like
2:50
somebody else's that's put on you
2:52
, it becomes hard to keep going , to
2:55
keep working consistently towards it
2:57
, because , like fuel
2:59
in a car , you
3:01
keep needing more . If
3:04
you've tried to work on your goals
3:06
from this place , like this kind of energy
3:08
, it can be why you maybe
3:10
never got there fully
3:12
or felt like you got there . If
3:18
you've had the same goal for
3:20
over a decade , that's
3:22
a good indication to look at what was fueling
3:24
you in that goal . Or
3:28
if you did physically
3:30
achieve the goal like , I think , like a weight loss goal
3:32
. If you actually lost the weight , it
3:34
can be a reason that it didn't
3:36
feel the way you thought it would
3:39
, or even feel
3:42
like you actually got there . It's
3:45
totally a reason people burn
3:47
out and
3:49
or self-sabotage
3:51
. It can totally even
3:54
be hard on one's mental
3:56
health , like you could
3:58
create problems because
4:01
it's not a sustainable energy
4:04
source . It will feel exhausting
4:07
. I
4:09
have seen over and over again people setting
4:11
a goal to lose weight because
4:14
they think their life will be better when they are
4:16
thin or they'll be more lovable
4:18
when they are thin and
4:20
they criticize and
4:22
bully themselves into taking
4:25
action , only
4:27
to end up self-sabotaging
4:29
and then even giving up for
4:32
a period of time before
4:35
they try again because
4:37
really it came down
4:40
to needing a break from themselves
4:42
. Just like fuel
4:45
for a car , whatever
4:47
you're using to motivate
4:49
yourself , you
4:51
are gonna need more of Right
4:55
. So if it's self-crisis
4:58
and judgment , you're gonna keep needing more of that
5:00
. So it totally
5:02
can feel hard when
5:04
you have someone in your head belittling
5:07
you , bullying you , telling you
5:10
mean things all the time . Of
5:12
course it makes sense
5:14
right that somebody would stop
5:17
and need a break from themselves
5:19
. When you have
5:21
the kind of energy for your goals that come from
5:23
inspiration , though , or
5:26
love , a desire
5:29
maybe it's a desire to feel
5:31
better , but desire
5:33
, curiosity , maybe
5:35
, to see what's possible to
5:38
do , willingness
5:40
to try something
5:42
different , to get something different . When
5:45
you have that kind of energy , it becomes
5:48
so much more sustainable
5:50
and even exciting
5:53
. To keep going , to
5:55
keep refilling , it doesn't feel
5:57
as exhausting . The
6:01
truth is , we do things because of how
6:03
we think it's going to make us feel so
6:05
. Also , it's
6:08
good to know that that feeling is
6:10
available at any time , and
6:13
if you can start to intentionally
6:16
practice feeling that ahead
6:18
of time as
6:20
you're working on your goals , it
6:22
actually becomes so much more likely
6:24
to achieve the
6:26
goal that you want and then feel like
6:29
it feels like you got there . It
6:33
feels the way you wanted it to feel
6:35
. It's really
6:37
such a more enjoyable process
6:39
overall . So I'm sure
6:41
you've heard the phrase you can't hate
6:43
yourself into loving yourself . It
6:46
makes sense , right ? So
6:48
if that's what you want to feel about yourself
6:50
, you have to start practicing
6:53
that from day one . Side
6:57
note you're also not
7:00
going to be able to receive fully what you won't
7:02
give to yourself If
7:04
you're doing something for outward validation
7:07
, like you're trying to lose weight because you think that other people
7:09
like you but you don't really like you
7:11
. You never really are going to feel that until you give
7:13
it to yourself . Okay , so
7:16
that was side note . I think
7:18
with a goal to lose weight
7:20
or get into shape , it's
7:22
not to say that not liking how you look
7:24
doesn't get you going , because that's some
7:27
pretty good fuel
7:31
, right ? Or not liking
7:33
how you're being , it's
7:36
just not to say that doesn't motivate change . It
7:38
can totally give you a kick in the pants . That's
7:40
actually one of the reasons I personally got started
7:43
at fitness . And
7:45
when you become sick and tired of feeling
7:47
sick and tired , you kind
7:49
of get sick and tired of your own behaviors
7:51
. That can really start a shift
7:53
. But that in and of
7:55
itself is different
7:58
than doing it because
8:01
someone else doesn't like the way you look . Doing
8:04
it because you should be quote
8:07
, unquote , should be or
8:09
doing it because you think you will be more likable
8:12
or more worthy if
8:14
you do it . I
8:16
got started from a place of
8:18
not liking . Where I was
8:21
, I
8:23
was really uncomfortable in my own skin
8:25
, but at the roots
8:27
of it I wanted
8:29
better for myself and
8:32
I wanted to give better to the
8:34
people around me , which
8:36
I knew feeling better . Liking
8:40
the way that I like showed up would
8:43
help that I
8:45
had a desire to be my best version
8:48
of myself , so it wasn't actually hating
8:50
on myself as it was
8:52
knowing I actually could
8:55
do better , I was capable
8:57
of doing better , and that definitely
8:59
became the most abundant fuel
9:01
as I got started
9:04
and kept going . I
9:06
have really been going deeper
9:08
lately in personal growth and
9:12
self-acceptance is one of those things I've
9:14
been really like diving
9:16
in on , and this
9:18
self-acceptance can be a
9:20
hard one for some people to grasp . So
9:23
if that's you , you're definitely an
9:25
alum . I rumbled with this one , too
9:28
, until I really understood
9:30
it , cause we think if we accept
9:33
it , we won't change
9:35
it , or is some
9:37
kind of version of giving up , like
9:39
if I accept myself , I'm giving
9:41
up , which is really just a misconception
9:44
, because self-acceptance
9:47
it's not giving
9:49
up or settling or even not being
9:51
real about the situation . It's
9:54
also not saying I'm okay
9:56
with this situation or
9:58
you're just trying to be okay
10:00
with the situation when it's not really
10:02
. It is
10:05
acknowledging the way
10:07
things are literally
10:09
right now , and
10:11
while we don't have to like it
10:14
at all , it's
10:16
like this is what I'm dealing
10:18
with , this is where I'm at , this
10:21
is my current reality To
10:25
not accept . It is
10:27
like arguing with reality
10:29
and it's like resisting
10:32
what is , which
10:35
makes it hard to take action . Some
10:39
things we can change and some things we might
10:41
not be able to , but
10:43
it's like looking at it for what it is
10:45
and then deciding now
10:48
what do we want to do ? It's
10:50
a way to take action and go forward
10:53
, instead of fighting it
10:55
or avoiding it or arguing
10:57
that we shouldn't be here . Maybe that looks
10:59
like someone that has some way to lose , like
11:02
saying things like I shouldn't have let myself
11:04
get here , I shouldn't have to deal with this , and
11:07
just like arguing with it and not accepting
11:09
it . To accept
11:11
what is creates new energy to
11:13
put towards making changes and
11:15
it creates forward movement
11:18
, and I just
11:20
wanted to share that because I think
11:22
that Self-acceptance
11:26
can be great energy
11:29
and so healing . Really , when you use
11:31
it for your goals , you can totally
11:33
refuse to let something define you
11:35
, while also accepting
11:37
what currently is . It's like you can accept
11:40
what is and also decide . This
11:42
is not how my story continues
11:44
, right ? Does that make sense
11:46
? So how do you check
11:48
in and know what your energy is for
11:50
your goals ? Well , I think
11:52
you can start by asking yourself why
11:55
you're doing what you're doing . Why
11:57
is it a goal ? Why
12:00
is this important to you
12:02
? What will
12:05
this bring to you ? What will it bring
12:07
in your life ? I think it's a good question
12:09
to also ask yourself do you actually
12:11
want to do this ? Do
12:14
you actually want this as a goal ? Is it somebody
12:16
else's goal ? Do you think
12:18
you have to do it , and
12:21
why ? I think all
12:23
these questions you also can
12:25
ask why and and keep
12:27
asking why and you'll uncover some
12:29
some really powerful stuff . Also
12:32
, another question , like do you believe you can do
12:35
it Now
12:37
? If you're asking yourself and
12:39
you're saying , I don't know , that's
12:42
also something to consider too
12:44
. Like I do not know why you're
12:46
doing something right . So
12:48
, bottom line , if you like your reasons for doing
12:50
something freaking , do it , and
12:53
it's probably good energy , but
12:57
do you . But do take the time
12:59
to get to know what is driving
13:01
your goal . And if
13:03
you can get to the more sustainable
13:05
fuel for your goals , it's going
13:07
to help you so much more in getting
13:10
where you're going , maintaining it
13:12
, and it will be a more
13:14
, a much more enjoyable process
13:16
. So that
13:19
is what I have for you today
13:21
. I'd actually love to hear
13:23
your thoughts on this . Come find
13:25
me on Instagram . I linked it in the show
13:27
notes and let me know what you think or
13:31
if you need coaching or support
13:33
on this . I got you there too
13:35
, so connect with me over on Instagram as well . I
13:38
can't wait to talk to you about it , and
13:40
until next time , can
13:42
we just go make the
13:44
impossible possible . Okay
13:47
, have an amazing
13:49
week .
