Paul Lowe, the host and creator of the Speaking From Our Hearts podcast, is a firm believer in his three pillars of success in life: purpose, prosperity and philanthropy. Purpose gives us a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and through achieving prosperity, we can truly learn to enjoy our lives. But it is in philanthropy that we can achieve our greatest sense of self-worth.

By showing others how to achieve success, we leave the world around us a better place than when we found it.

Paul talks about his difficult beginnings, the ways he employed to cope, and the unique methods he developed in order to turn his life around.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • First and foremost, Paul is not distracted by theory. He finds that pragmatism is the best approach to success. He is often asked for help in “fixing” people, and always does his best to offer the best advice for the here-and-now, not wholly philosophies that often seem to confuse.

  • Paul describes his mental health as having moved in “black and white” phases. When he was in one of his “white” phases, he felt able to do well at work, to climb ladders and make the best of himself. But when he was in a “black” phase, he felt indulged to engage in self-sabotaging behaviour, which cost him relationships and careers.

  • Through personal loss, Paul has come to understand the power of belief. This has led to a greater understanding of pain, a highly developed sense of listening, and a heightened sensitivity to the needs of others.

  • Paul also sees the value in sometimes being defeated. He works best when he is under pressure, or as he likes to put it, he needs to go one nil down before he can emerge victorious.

  • By making changes to our belief systems over a gradual time, we can make the world of difference to our emotional health. It takes hard work and persistence, but can be done. The mental health treatment system seems to be becoming over complicated.

  • Nurturing youth is invaluable The next generation will be inheriting the planet, so we should do so carefully, and with attention. Instilling decency and moral values into youth is a mission we should all undertake with care.

ABOUT THE HOST

Kate Ashley-Norman is creator of Positive Mind Management, the host of The Mental Health Revolution podcast, and a passionate speaker and trainer about our emotional wellbeing. She is seeking to change the nature and tone of the conversation around mental health for business owners, their workplaces and ultimately in their personal lives.

Kate has spent the last 25+ years running her own businesses, initially working running a six figure PR consultancy agency, then building a multi-million pound international property portfolio. Latterly she has dedicated her time to studying emotional mastery and positive psychology, while bringing up four children, and has used her experience and knowledge to create the Positive Mind Management programme specifically for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

The knowledge Kate has collated will help you to not only better understand your emotions, it will help you both improve it, and supercharge it during those more challenging times when emotional wellbeing can be compromised. Fear, procrastination, overwhelm, powerlessness, self worth – empire building is a hugely challenging process in its own right. The more power you hold within your own emotions, the more you can harness the power of those emotions, good and bad, to the benefit of your business and life in general.

Hugely practical and applicable, this revolutionary approach to mental health is putting the power back into the hands of each and every individual.
