Luke McCarthy is a Melbourne-based freelance writer, author, presenter and spirits judge. After receiving a bachelor in writing and literature, he then completed his graduate studies at Melbourne’s Whisky & Alement and wrote a longstanding national column for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald on the drinks and bar trade.  His first book, The Australian Spirits Guide, was published in 2016 by Hardie Grant Books.

Luke is a judge at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards, and currently, he's the editor of Oz Whisky Review – the ultimate Australian whisky resource he founded in 2020.
