0:13

Welcome to the Huddle. Michael Bama

0:15

is joined by Dave Whyman. No

0:17

Stacy today. She's out on vacation,

0:20

so you got to deal with us, man, Dave, how you doing.

0:22

I'm good Man, Good to be here after a win,

0:24

right a while. It's been a long time

0:26

and feels like over a month. Man.

0:28

I remember looking at the forty nine

0:30

ers when they lost their three in a row.

0:32

Then it had a bye week.

0:33

I go, man, a month of losing that has to be tough,

0:35

and then we get hit with a month of losing. So forty

0:37

nine ers, I feel your pain. I hope you feel more pain though.

0:40

Man, let's recap this game last week. Man,

0:43

you were on the call. I always think about you and

0:45

Raves when these dramatic

0:47

plays or endings happened. Just you guys

0:50

are a part of that moment. What

0:52

was the end of the game like? But the game in general,

0:54

man, which you take from it?

0:55

Well?

0:55

I try not to like squeal

0:58

and you know, make noises and stuff in the background

1:00

or whatever, or grumble when things are

1:02

going bad.

1:03

Just to stay out of Rabel's way. But man, yeah,

1:06

it was it was It was just like magical.

1:08

I mean it was like, oh, here's what we need. We

1:10

need him to pick the ball off, picks the ball. If here's

1:13

what we need, we need a ninety two yard

1:15

drive, and you know, to for that all

1:17

to come down, and I think we didn't really

1:20

you know, you just think, hey, this is you know, you

1:22

got a good backup quarterback out there, and

1:25

he played well last week, and yeah, sure,

1:27

we're just going to go right down the field. And then the fashion,

1:29

as you mentioned, the dramatic fashion,

1:31

I mean the catch by DK right,

1:34

just ridiculous in between, you know, hands

1:37

flying everywhere, and then that ridiculous

1:40

catch by j s N And all of a sudden, to me,

1:42

it kind of clouds the water

1:45

a little bit because it's like, yeah, maybe we should

1:47

get it to him a little bit more, because you know, it's always

1:49

like DK, what about Tyler Lockett?

1:51

He hasn't really shown up.

1:52

And I feel like Tyler is gonna gonna

1:54

show up here big in the next couple of games, because

1:56

you just can't keep a guy like that down. But for

1:59

that to happen ninety two yard drive.

2:01

He went five for ten on the drive, so

2:03

it was kind of shaky, you know. But yeah,

2:07

the catch by JSN was ridiculous.

2:09

I compared it to Josh Gordon caught

2:11

one in Carolina and twenty eighteen or nineteen,

2:13

I can't remember where.

2:14

He caught the back half of the football.

2:16

Yeah, that's hard to do, it is, and then

2:19

get your feet in and he didn't even really pay

2:21

that much attention to it.

2:22

It was just very natural for him to

2:24

get his feet in.

2:25

So yeah, an amazing way to

2:27

end that game, especially with the same thing

2:29

with the second pick that Julian got.

2:32

You know, it was if Trey

2:34

Brown hadn't been there, it would have been

2:36

easy two feet down.

2:37

His leg hits it, barely toe

2:39

taps it. So yeah.

2:41

I mean, you know when when Jason

2:43

Kelsey got busted for moving the ball

2:45

up like two or three inches or four inches or

2:47

whatever it was, It's like it comes down to

2:49

that, it does, so man, it was

2:52

it. It was really really cool to

2:54

watch it. It was almost like you couldn't believe what was

2:56

happening.

2:57

Yeah, And I think we said here last

2:59

week with boy when Stacey and we all felt

3:01

like they legit had a chance to win this

3:03

game. We weren't just saying it because obviously

3:06

we're employed by the team or not. We looked at

3:08

the matchups and said, okay, let's go.

3:10

Now.

3:10

Philadelphia still ran for one hundred and seventy

3:12

eight yards on the Hawks. You hate to see

3:14

that, but what they did do was limit Aj Brown

3:17

and DeVante Smith. Aj had five receptions

3:19

for fifty six yards, no touchdowns. DeVante

3:21

Smith have five for fifty no

3:24

touchdowns. So when you're able to stay on top

3:26

and coverage and make those big plays in the secondary

3:29

against one of the best duos in the league,

3:31

that's always encouraging. But Julian Love man

3:34

Jamal didn't play last week, where we'll see if

3:36

he plays this week.

3:37

He's looking doubtful this week.

3:38

What did you make of Julian Love just taking advantage

3:41

of such a great opportunity.

3:42

Yeah, it's funny.

3:42

Probably two or three weeks ago, it's like, you know, Julian's

3:45

been good, but he hasn't like stood out that

3:47

much. And then the last two games it's been

3:49

responsible for four takeaways. So yeah,

3:52

and he's had been playing seventy

3:54

five percent of the snaps and pretty

3:57

much, you know, all year, and then

3:59

there are some games where he was very

4:01

underused. I felt like, you know, thirty

4:03

percent of the snaps, so he

4:05

was one hundred and it seemed to work. And

4:09

you know, coverage was good. He's playing

4:11

his best football. I thought Digs

4:13

played a lot better. He was squaring people

4:15

up like he normally does. And then the

4:17

other thing, you know, and I think you know

4:20

this. Coaches used to say this all the time.

4:22

To me, it's the little things, you know.

4:24

So I thought the way Mike

4:26

jack was handling those little screens,

4:29

the bubble screens, I don't know what you'd seen

4:31

from Philly, like if they like

4:33

to run it that much, but it seemed like they ran a.

4:35

Lot of those. Him and

4:37

Big Cat.

4:38

That dude has three sacks, a

4:40

bunch of tackles for loss. He has

4:42

sniffed out those screens, it seems like every

4:45

time. And those two guys

4:47

just doing the little things. And I was up

4:49

there pounding the table for Mike Jackson.

4:51

Man, I was like, more, Mike Jackson.

4:54

I know we're gonna have Bobo today. I know everybody

4:56

more and Mobo. But man, that

4:59

dude is old school and he just takes

5:01

care of things in a very systematic

5:03

way. It's like, destroy the receiver

5:06

that's trying to block you first, and he did that.

5:08

We talked to El Ambra who comes on our

5:10

show every Tuesday, Michael Bradley, and he

5:13

was talking about DeVante Smith and

5:15

why in the.

5:15

World do you have him trying to block? And I'm like, it's

5:17

a pretty good point, Like a

5:20

buck seventy five. Maybe I was.

5:22

Looking at him down on the field before the

5:24

game and skinniest legs

5:26

I've ever seen.

5:26

In the NFL.

5:27

So yeah, I mean they were they were trying to do

5:29

that, but I mean Mike Jack did exactly what

5:32

you need to do to shut that play down, and

5:34

they shut it down several times. So really,

5:37

just just little things like that. I don't

5:39

think necessarily it's addition by subtraction,

5:42

you know, not having Jamal in there. My

5:45

personal opinion is that Jamal's hurt and

5:47

he can't play up to his potential

5:50

with the injury that he has. So you

5:52

know that's the thing. I mean, I've always said about

5:55

this, there's no ninety percent, there's

5:57

no eighty percent.

5:59

It's either a go or a no go.

6:01

Can you play NFL football and

6:03

you know, if you can't, it's very obvious. And

6:06

so to me, that's that's kind of what it looked like in

6:08

the same Francisco game.

6:09

Yeah, something else I loved about that game. The tight

6:11

end is getting involved. Now, not any huge

6:13

plays, but when you see them get receptions.

6:15

To me, that just tells me the offense is flowing. No

6:17

a fan had three catches, Disleey had to, Kobe

6:20

Parkinson had one, had a big

6:22

touchdown the weekend before all. Let's

6:24

transition over to the Tennessee Titans.

6:27

Man, they've they're an interesting team,

6:29

Dave, and I look at their film

6:31

and I look at what Levis has been able to do.

6:33

Now he's doubtful, it sounds like for the game this weekend,

6:36

so you might see Tannehill or or

6:38

a Moleaku. But I'm looking at

6:40

what levis and I underestimated him. I'm

6:42

looking at his athleticism. Now he's gonna make some bone head

6:44

decisions at times because he's a rookie. But

6:46

when he is healthy and he's going into d

6:49

hop, he looks pretty good. But the last couple of weeks,

6:51

man Derrick Henry has forty

6:53

three yards total running

6:55

the football, but he does have two touchdowns. When

6:58

you see the Titans and what concerns

7:01

you are or what encourages.

7:02

You, Well, I'm just looking at like some of the you

7:05

know, some of the their

7:07

opponents. You know, they've had some bad losses,

7:09

like you know, they lost twenty seven to three

7:11

to Cleveland and then of course they lost over the weekend

7:14

in overtime, so

7:16

against Houston that was at home. But you

7:19

know, you see that they played Miami really well.

7:21

That was an impressive outing. And so I feel

7:23

like any NFL team is always available to

7:25

do something like that. The

7:28

other thing I kind of sneaks into my mind

7:30

is maybe Tannehill is

7:32

tired of sitting around watching the rookie. Maybe

7:34

he comes out and lights it up. But I do

7:36

feel like we're gonna be able to get to the quarterback. Yeah,

7:39

because you know, they've been sacked fifty times

7:41

all three of their you know, their their

7:43

quarterbacks, and you know it was

7:45

it Willis. He's only a complete or only

7:47

attempted five passes. He's

7:50

been sacked four times. So I

7:52

feel like that, you know, we can get after them

7:54

with the pass rush. I mentioned big Cat earlier,

7:57

and I get some pressure up the Metal.

7:59

It's been a while since our guy boy,

8:03

So you know, I feel like that that's an opportunity

8:05

for them. They're not really sure about their quarterback

8:07

position. You mentioned Hopkins. I mean that

8:09

guy is magical, but yeah,

8:12

I feel like, you know, you still

8:14

got Derrick Henry back there, and

8:17

they're always available to make plays. And I feel

8:19

like this is a team that if you don't go and

8:21

take.

8:22

Care of it.

8:22

I don't sit there and mark this off as

8:24

a w at all, not by any stretch.

8:27

No, it's the NFL, and you got to take

8:29

every opponent respectfully,

8:33

and there are plays to be made out there. I was talking

8:35

to Curtis in the first two hours. I go, look, you got

8:37

d Henry, you got Hopkins over there as well.

8:39

We'll see what quarterback plays. What I don't want to

8:41

see is a guy like Traylon Burks just have a day

8:44

all of a sudden. Always, it

8:46

always concerns me when a

8:48

guy who hasn't been doing much all of a sudden shows

8:50

up and now they have another option. But

8:52

I think if they play fundamentally sound, they

8:55

can win this game.

8:56

They should be favorite to win.

8:57

I'm not sure what Vegas has the mat but

8:59

but yeah, I'm excited to see how they respond

9:02

to the big win from a Monday night game.

9:04

Yeah, and I feel like we're at the point, and especially

9:06

with these opponents where you

9:09

know, we're going into the Dallas game, the Eagle

9:11

game, the two Niner games,

9:13

like it's all about them and

9:15

can we control them? I feel like these three

9:17

games are all about us. How

9:20

how are we going to play? We see

9:22

what they're able to do, and I don't, you

9:24

know, I don't buy the whole thing that Jalen

9:27

Hurts was sick.

9:28

I don't.

9:29

I don't buy that just because my own personal

9:31

experiences. I had like one hundred and three

9:33

degree temperature for a game. I was telling the story yesterday,

9:36

I was sick as a dog for a Sunday

9:38

night game, went out there, played

9:41

the game, actually had a good game. Afterwards,

9:44

I was drinking beer in the bar with my boys.

9:46

Yeah, we beat the Raiders, and was like I

9:48

was, I was cured. It was fine, come on, sick,

9:51

you can't.

9:52

I don't. I don't buy that he was sick.

9:54

So yeah, I thought that was a that was

9:56

a really good win over Philadelphia,

9:59

and you know, that was just kind of what

10:01

they needed to propel him on the streak.

10:03

You know what was cool bump. Also last

10:05

week, that was as low

10:07

as I've ever heard Pete Carroll, you

10:10

know, saying, ask those guys.

10:12

It's like, is the messaging there? I don't know, I ask.

10:14

Those guys, and you know, look, he's human

10:16

and it gets to him after a while.

10:18

Look at how he ended that week.

10:21

I mean he went back out on the field and

10:23

was looking around, you know, trying to take

10:25

it all in. You saw that. I don't know if

10:27

you saw the post game that had to be bleeped

10:29

out. Pete was just going crazy in the locker

10:31

room and then he was talking really fast

10:34

and everything. So I just thought that was,

10:36

as Pete would put it, that was a beautiful thing.

10:38

You know.

10:38

He went from the emotional

10:40

lows to the highs and it all occurred

10:43

in one week, and I just thought that was a

10:45

very cool.

10:46

Little happening there. For Pete.

10:48

It seems like he always surprises you. Yeah, you

10:50

know, you think he's the oldest guy in the league.

10:53

He is just like, how do you get that much

10:55

energy, you know, and muster that up?

10:57

It's pretty amazing.

10:58

He tastes vitamins in the morning, I'll does

11:00

yoga. Something's going down in his

11:02

preparation. I was talking to Curtis and I

11:04

said, what impressed me the most

11:07

about Pete this month was was

11:09

that he was faced with something he's never

11:11

been through before, and he

11:14

changed his approach a bit while still remaining

11:16

himself. I think he was a bit more stern this week

11:18

when it comes to the media and applying pressure

11:20

to the guys and calling guys out throughout

11:22

this four game losing street, but still

11:24

found a way to be himself while doing

11:26

that, and said, you can't teach an old dog

11:29

new tricks.

11:29

I go, Nah, Pete learned some new.

11:31

Tricks this week, man, because he got

11:33

his guys motivated and ready to go.

11:34

Man.

11:34

So that just going off of what you

11:37

said, man, that was impressive to

11:39

me that he was able to do that.

11:40

Yeah.

11:41

Well, and also, you know, you look at this

11:43

time, there's been a lot of talk in the NFL,

11:45

like Mike Tomlin, Bill Belichick

11:47

or they're losing their fastball, right, you know, and

11:50

it happens to everybody, and I wonder

11:52

if maybe that kind of crept into

11:54

peach mind. I mean, especially like he's the guy

11:56

that is the great communicator, like

11:58

the he knows how to get to his players,

12:01

and he was pretty low at that point, but you

12:03

know, he just buckled up, went through

12:05

the week, and then by the end of the week you could see he was pretty

12:08

excited.

12:08

And then after that game, it just all

12:10

overflowed.

12:11

I thought it was a really cool sort

12:13

of little microcosm of the

12:16

season, you know, for for Pete and

12:18

for his career as well.

12:19

You know, I mean, you just you

12:22

can't stay down, yep, can't do

12:24

it?

12:24

All right, man, We're just gonna start a here in

12:26

the huddle with Dave Whyman and Michael Bombas.

12:29

When we return, we'll be joined by a young man

12:31

who made a play that is JSN.

12:33

You don't want to miss it. That as next right here in the huddle.

12:35

This this is the huddle

12:37

presented by Hunt Services

12:40

and Pacific Lamping Supply every

12:42

Thursday from noon to two Seattle

12:45

Sports.

12:46

JSN is wide to the far side.

12:48

Drew looks, throws that way, got

12:50

JSN, be right it up, bake.

12:53

The catch, tout it down, Hey,

12:56

hok, holy cabitch,

13:00

all right through, lock on and over

13:02

the shoulder catch by

13:04

Jackson spif the Jacob and

13:07

with twenty eight seconds left, but see

13:09

Yawks lead nineteen to

13:11

seventeen.

13:12

Oh my word, ninety

13:16

two yards to victory, capped

13:18

off with that touchdown right there by

13:20

JSN. Welcome back to the huddle, Michael

13:22

Bompas with Dave Wyman. We will be joined

13:25

by JSN in a little bit there. Their

13:27

seawts are wrapping up practice. I'm sure NASA

13:30

is making his way over here with JSN.

13:32

But man, I think you describe

13:35

that that drive beautifully, like five for ten When

13:37

it comes to the completions, there were times where I'm

13:40

two third downs. One was a big play

13:42

the DK the other third down conversion was a game

13:44

win, a touchdown. I was watching the end

13:46

of the game in the Verizon Wireless

13:48

Lounge with the people, and it

13:51

was fun because too many times I've been

13:53

there with them and everyone's shaking their head

13:55

and they're walking out the stadium and the energy

13:58

was down. So to share that moment the

14:00

folks was awesome, and I

14:02

could imagine your point of view.

14:03

Was even better. Yeah.

14:04

And you know the other thing that was cool about

14:07

it was and I didn't get a chance to see it

14:09

until later, but the interview of Drew Locke

14:11

and him kind of going through the emotions

14:13

and everything. The other thing I think that stood

14:15

out, and we were talking about Pete and you

14:17

know, his sort of transformation as the week went

14:19

on. But you really saw the

14:22

connection between Geno and

14:24

Drew like they really true.

14:25

I've always been kind of skeptical of that, you

14:28

know. And Moyer, your boy Moyer.

14:30

He will sometimes say, oh, man, if

14:32

there's a rookie strong

14:34

safety coming in trying to take my job,

14:36

I'm gonna tell him to go left when.

14:37

He should go right, you know.

14:39

But he's joking about that, of course, But no, the

14:41

connection there, and you know, when

14:43

they were battling it out last year, I

14:46

thought, you know, I think I thought

14:48

Drew would be a better backup for Gino

14:50

than the other way around, because Gino been

14:52

in the league for so long and he's fought for it

14:54

and he got got a chance, and you know, he

14:57

won that job last year, comeback player year,

15:00

and so we're going to go back to Gino, of course,

15:02

because they didn't do anything.

15:03

To lose his job. But it's really

15:06

it kind of brings home.

15:07

We had the John Schneider Show last year,

15:09

and I remember when John came down here after

15:12

they signed Drew Locke. He was really

15:14

excited, really excited to have a really

15:16

good look at you.

15:18

Look at what your your backup quarterback did.

15:20

I mean, he actually played well against San Francisco,

15:22

didn't get you the W, but I

15:24

mean the ninety two yard drive. I

15:27

mean, that's how many backup quarterbacks

15:29

can do that. And maybe it's not a backup quarterback.

15:31

Yeah, So you know, I think I think the good

15:33

news is that you know, those guys have

15:36

a really good connection and that

15:38

they're going to support each other.

15:39

Yeah, you have to support each other, right, especially

15:42

because you're all working towards

15:44

the same thing. And I'm sure

15:46

Gino's like, look, when I'm healthy, I

15:49

much rather prefer to be playing for something

15:51

at the end of the year.

15:52

And it starts with this game.

15:53

If you don't win that game, your chances to get

15:55

into the playoffs, uh string dramatically

15:58

of course to Brady Henderson. And if they lost

16:00

that game, the Hawks had a sixteen percent chance to make the playoffs.

16:02

Because they won that game, it's up to fifty

16:04

five percent right now. So yeah,

16:07

and I imagine that Gino looked

16:11

looks at Drew and say that was

16:13

me. You know, for three four

16:15

years into the league, people

16:17

have given up on me a little bit, didn't

16:20

really have opportunities. So for Gina

16:22

to support him that way, he has to feel like there's some

16:24

type of connection there where it comes from

16:26

just their journey.

16:27

And I'm with you. I think Drew low can be a starter

16:29

in this league.

16:30

And I think that everything from the way

16:32

he played against the Niners to the way he played against Philly

16:34

who is postgame interview is all

16:37

going to help him next year when it's time to negotiate

16:39

contracts and hopefully get a shot in the NFL.

16:41

I like also the kind

16:43

of I've talked to Drew a couple of times,

16:46

just trying to kind of get to know him. But you saw

16:48

him where he takes his helmet off and delivers that

16:50

message to America. Lots of lip readers

16:52

out there, huh. And it goes from that to almost

16:55

kind of breaking down into tears afterwards

16:58

and the emotions of it. So yeah,

17:00

I mean, I think what you see is what you get

17:02

with that kid. I talked to him

17:04

after the game in San Francisco and we were asked.

17:06

I was asking him about his child that's

17:09

due and things like that it's just very

17:11

calm, doesn't you know. It's

17:13

the game's not too big for him, and he's

17:15

a great athlete, and it seems

17:18

like very well liked by his teammates.

17:20

So yeah, it was.

17:21

It was pretty impressive, pretty impressive that

17:24

that entire thing, and that there was a lot to kind

17:26

of soak in afterwards.

17:28

You know, there was so much excitement, like you said,

17:30

during that drive, and then all of a sudden

17:32

you start to look back on the week and how it went

17:34

and you know some of the some of the drama

17:37

that was going on and how they managed it.

17:39

Yeah, all right, well we're gonna sneak in a little

17:41

break right here, get Jayson some more time to get

17:44

over here. We'll speak to him and Jake

17:46

Bubble that's coming up next here on the Huddle.

17:48

This this is the Huddle

17:51

presented by Hunt Services

17:53

and Pacific Lamping Supply every

17:55

Thursday from noon.

17:56

To two on Seattle Sports.

17:59

Welcome back to the hull O. Michael Bombas with Dave Woman.

18:02

Now we're joined by j s and what

18:04

something? How you feeling feeling good?

18:05

Feeling good? How y'all doing good?

18:07

Man? We're good?

18:07

I mean, shoot ten, what ninety

18:09

two yards and a touchdown to end that thing. You

18:12

got your second walk off touchdown.

18:14

Man.

18:15

I always love when I get a chance to talk to you. I could really

18:17

talk receiver stuff, man, And

18:19

it's the little things that you do that I

18:21

appreciate. I coach out of high school

18:24

and I show my kids to film with your touchdown and

18:26

it's just a go route, right, But what young

18:28

dudes want to do is they want to try to run by the defender

18:30

like eight yards away from my go no, it's just gonna squeeze

18:32

you to the sideline and you're done. So you be

18:35

impatient in that moment, getting on his toes

18:37

swimming them up.

18:38

It was beautiful.

18:38

And then to me, that's the hardest catching football

18:40

over the shoulder on the sideline. You made

18:43

it look easy when they called that play

18:45

and you saw you had that one on one matchup that you

18:47

know you're going to get the football, Drew.

18:50

I knew I was going to get the football, but

18:52

you don't know because it is football and a lot

18:54

of things can happen. So you know, I

18:57

think I'm gonna get the football every play, Yeah, every time

18:59

I run her out. So you know that was

19:01

a play where it was designed. If we see

19:03

man the man coverage, you know, we're going to take that shot

19:05

with me. And as I go out

19:07

there, I drew he he you know,

19:10

stamped it and like hey remember man, man,

19:12

you know it's going up to you.

19:14

And I'm like, okay, cool. So you

19:16

know, just ran my route.

19:17

And like you said, you know, it's the little things you

19:19

know about the game and the art of route running that

19:21

I really like and really you know, try

19:23

to strive for and you know,

19:26

been taught by some good people, you know, all

19:29

credits to, you know, people in my hometown,

19:31

to coach Harline, Ohio State, and

19:34

you know, just practice, you know, hard

19:36

work and putting it into the game. And that was

19:38

just the next catch. So I was happy to make

19:40

that play.

19:41

How did you catch the back half of

19:43

the football? I've only seen that one. I

19:46

was telling him.

19:46

Josh Gordon was here a few years ago and

19:49

I saw him do that on like a sixty yard where.

19:50

He caught the back half of it. Like, that's

19:53

not how you catch a football. That was

19:55

incredible. Yeah, you just just reach

19:57

out for it. Yeah.

19:58

For that, I just reached out as far as I

20:00

could and just squeeze it and hope

20:02

for the best, I guess.

20:03

And it looked like you didn't even really like you knew

20:05

your feet we're going to get in, Like is

20:07

that kind of almost like an automatic for you?

20:09

You practicing so much?

20:11

Yeah, I mean, but after Dallas game

20:13

and I don't know what's going on, I had to I

20:15

was really kind of nervous.

20:16

Hopefully they didn't call it back.

20:18

You know, but yeah,

20:20

I mean I knew I had it and uh,

20:22

you know, yeah, happy to make that catch.

20:24

Man.

20:25

I'm watching you play and you

20:27

You've always been like a fast player, but

20:29

it seems like you're playing even faster, like

20:31

you're noticing things quicker.

20:34

Is am I seeing that correctly? Yeah?

20:37

I mean I feel like you're seeing a young

20:39

rookie receiver just trying to grow and growing

20:42

each week, you know, you know, each

20:44

week I try to, you know, be on Tyler

20:46

like his hip and be on dk hip and learn,

20:48

and you know, I feel like the best

20:51

players adjust to, you know, and

20:53

and you know, develop

20:57

too, you know, be good and

21:00

to do the things that they know they're gonna win

21:02

and be successful.

21:03

So you know, that's just what I'm trying to do.

21:04

I'm just trying to grow each week, each game,

21:07

play faster and faster, and you

21:09

know, just be there for my

21:11

team.

21:12

A couple of things about you, man.

21:13

Everybody forgets that you had surgery

21:16

at the beginning of the year and that was like a record

21:18

time coming back from that, right.

21:20

Yeah, I mean, what was it? How

21:22

much football did you miss?

21:24

I want to say I missed a good

21:26

solid week, a good solid

21:28

week. They brought me back in

21:30

a little slowly, but yeah, yeah,

21:33

when I think about it, it kind of you know,

21:35

it kind of shocks me too that, yeah, I had surgery

21:37

and I fractured my wrists, you know, right

21:40

before the season, literally a week before the season,

21:42

and you know it was hard, you know, trying

21:44

to you know, really catch the ball with a cast

21:46

on for about three four weeks.

21:48

But you know, we made it happen. And I

21:51

want to think that. I always think.

21:53

The treatment guys, you

21:55

know, my people, you know at home, you

21:57

know, you know, credit to you

22:00

know, the work outside of the building, and

22:02

we were able to, you know, get back.

22:04

What's it been like on this journey because

22:07

you know, people see you out there doing your thing, but it's

22:09

your mom, your dad, your brothers, your

22:11

cousins, your fam back home. What's

22:14

what's their reaction been to the season that you're

22:16

having.

22:17

They just, you know, they're really dedicated

22:19

and they really they're Seahawks fans

22:22

now and they take you know, every loss to heart,

22:24

you know, every win. You know, they're

22:26

they're really into it. But you know, it's

22:29

I'm definitely blessed to have, you know, my family

22:31

and the close friends you know, in my circle,

22:35

they've been real supportive, and you

22:37

know, just to go home and you know

22:39

see them, you know, it's just you know, always good

22:41

to talk about football and not talk

22:43

about football. So you know, I'm definitely

22:45

blessed and thankful to you know, to have mom, dad,

22:48

brother.

22:49

Another thing I wanted to ask you about during camp,

22:51

you had I don't know if it was a tweet or something. You

22:53

had a quote where you said, one of the things

22:55

that you like about playing receivers you don't

22:57

not really sure if you're going to make the catcher. We

23:00

were talking about sort of that whole thing, kind

23:02

of elaborate on that and how it's

23:04

kind of like a little game inside of the game for you.

23:06

Yeah, I mean, the best moment I

23:08

think I said some the best moment, the

23:11

best feeling is like when you see the ball you don't know if

23:13

you're gonna catch it.

23:13

You know, you reach out and it falls in

23:16

your hands.

23:16

Just that anxiety,

23:18

I guess, the the all.

23:21

That stuff that plays into it.

23:23

You know, it feels good, just the relief,

23:25

you know, it's it's an amazing feeling. And

23:27

yeah, that catch, I guess, yeah, that was definitely

23:29

one of those feelings.

23:31

Right.

23:31

Well, we're gonna let you keep getting right

23:33

for this this weekend's game.

23:35

Man.

23:35

We appreciate your time, and I

23:37

love just watching you grow.

23:38

Man.

23:38

It's real fun to watch you. I appreciate it.

23:40

Thanks for having me on.

23:41

All right, that is j s n

23:43

Man. All right, I think we got Jake Bobo hang

23:45

oo. Yes, no, he's

23:47

not here yet, but you know we'll we'll stall a little bit

23:49

till it gets here. Man, Jason, take

23:52

care of baby seeing you, yes, sir?

23:55

All right?

23:55

Man, Yeah, I know man, receiver

23:58

talk. I can sit with receivers all day

24:00

and just break this thing down.

24:02

Man. I love it. Yeah.

24:03

I didn't want to ask too many questions, bum because I know

24:05

you had lots to get to there. But man, what a great young

24:07

kid. Just the way he thinks about it too. That

24:10

was really impressive that, you

24:12

know, he.

24:12

Talked about the anxiety and you

24:14

know that's uh yeah.

24:16

And wide receivers, you know that's

24:19

I think the other thing about that is

24:21

that so many other people have to do their

24:23

job.

24:23

Yeah right.

24:24

I mean, if you're wide

24:26

open, you run the best route that you've ever

24:29

run, and somebody gets whooped at the line

24:31

of scrimmage, or somebody doesn't run

24:33

the right route, or the quarterback just doesn't see you.

24:35

It's a very interesting position. It's just I

24:38

feel like everybody else sort of makes their own way,

24:41

whereas for wide receivers, you're counting on

24:43

a lot to happen, right.

24:44

Yeah, yeah.

24:45

The sinner has to snap, QB

24:47

has to get it, line has to block, the

24:49

covers has to be right, and a lot of signs of the receiver.

24:51

You kind of know what your chances

24:54

are of getting the football. So now you start

24:56

thinking, all right, am I running

24:58

my route for me?

24:59

Am I running a round for my boy?

25:00

Because if I'm not getting the ball, then I'm occupying

25:02

a corner or holding the safety. So you got to

25:04

be unselfish too. That's why when when receivers

25:07

of divas. I wasn't like that, but I go, yeah,

25:09

I kind of get it. Man, you're waiting on

25:11

a lot to go right for you.

25:13

Right, yeah, I think that's that's the explanation

25:15

for And then some guys you can tell

25:18

that this kid just incredibly grounded

25:20

and really has a great perspective, and

25:23

you know he's talking about me or rookie.

25:25

I'm like, dude, you're a number one pick.

25:27

Yeah you know, yeah, I mean he's that guy

25:29

is and he's not a rookie anymore, right at

25:31

this point. Well, yeah, you've played pretty

25:33

much a whole college season.

25:35

That's what my coaches tells all the time,

25:37

like four or five games into college season,

25:39

like you're not a freshman anymore, Like just time

25:41

for you to contribute. He's

25:44

exceeded my expectations. I knew he was going to be a

25:46

good ball player, but I looked at just the receiver room

25:48

with DK and would lock it, and then you

25:50

factor in the tight ends. I go, man, there's

25:52

not gonna be a lot of footballs to go around. So I projected

25:55

him around the high four hundreds of

25:57

forty five catches, fifty catches in a

26:00

couple of touchdowns. He's already had fifty

26:02

three receptions, five hundred and forty one yards

26:04

and three touchdowns, so it looks like he's

26:06

on pace. He's going to have well over six hundred

26:08

yards, maybe even seven hundred yards if he goes

26:10

off. And for him to

26:13

slide right into this offense and

26:15

and start a.

26:16

Girl's been fun to watch.

26:17

I call him the gadget guy, like

26:19

he should be the gadget guy, the guy who does the

26:21

jest sweeps, who does the options, who does the screens

26:24

and stuff, and allow Dkay

26:26

and Tyler just to stretch the field and going across

26:28

the middle. So it's it's fun watching

26:30

Shane kind of figure out how to use these guys

26:32

altogether too.

26:33

Yeah, you know, it's it's interesting.

26:35

I don't remember this bump, but in the Dollas game

26:37

he had eleven targets, yes good,

26:39

and seven catches, and then the other

26:41

night just.

26:42

Four targets caught, all four of

26:44

them and one of them being the most important.

26:46

But yeah, and you

26:48

know, I was kind of going through previewing the

26:50

game coming up this weekend, and I

26:52

wouldn't be surprised to see, like Tyler Lockett

26:54

have a big game. He had nine targets only

26:57

three catches. But man, you don't keep

26:59

Tyler Lockett down. And it just seems like over

27:01

the last few few weeks,

27:04

but that that's going to be. It's a good problem to

27:06

have, right because you've got DK You mentioned the

27:08

tight ends, right, you want to get them involved

27:10

and then and then you know, just to

27:12

switch the topic a little bit, uh, but

27:14

keep it on the offensive side.

27:17

Walker our guy K nine. Man, that

27:19

that.

27:19

Guy, he had a really good

27:22

not numbers wise necessarily, but

27:24

he was phenomenal as far as

27:26

you know, just uh, finding some

27:29

daylight and running to it.

27:30

His quick feet, his feet are so fast,

27:33

So yeah, there he is crazy.

27:36

What's up hey, man, Jake Bobo joining

27:38

us now here on the huddle.

27:43

It says, am man, thanks for joinings me. How

27:45

you feeling absolutely so, I'm late. It's

27:48

all good now you're on time. Wait

27:50

on you.

27:51

We had a text her text in and said he

27:53

met you at safeway or she and you

27:56

were just a great person.

27:57

So I appreciate the text line showing

27:59

you some love. Man, So SMI.

28:01

Man, you guys are deep into the season. This is longer

28:03

than any college season that you've had. How's

28:05

the body feeling, how's a mental.

28:07

Body feels good? You know, mental's

28:09

great. After Monday night, winning

28:12

solves all some good

28:15

man, ready to attack these last three and then whatever

28:17

we have after.

28:18

What was that like going through

28:20

that week?

28:20

We're talking about how Pete kind of started off

28:22

the week and you know, it was kind of kind of down.

28:24

Everybody was kind of down after that fourth loss,

28:26

and that's not something Beat has experienced.

28:29

But you guys just got right back after

28:31

it.

28:32

And you know, getting at the at

28:34

the end of that game where you're kind of like, all right,

28:36

now, did you learn something about like hanging

28:38

in there and just knowing that just put

28:40

your head down and keep working.

28:42

Yeah, yeah, no doubt something's gonna pop,

28:44

especially with the talent on this team,

28:47

the coaching we have on this team, the

28:49

leadership we have on this team. Like you said, it starts

28:51

at the top with with Pete and how he rolls.

28:55

You know, all four losses, it was okay,

28:57

come in on Monday, here's what we

28:59

you know, didn't do so well, here's what we did well,

29:02

and let's go ahead and attack this week. And that's

29:04

what happened the rest of the you know, the rest of the days of the week.

29:06

We're like, you know, you couldn't tell whether we were on

29:08

a uh, you know, four game skid or a

29:11

four game winning streak. So we knew

29:13

at some point it was gonna pop. Had a good feeling it was gonna be Monday

29:15

night. But yeah, good to get the

29:17

w back in the win column. Yeah,

29:20

ready to tack the last three.

29:22

The first drive of the second half, you guys

29:24

came out, ran the football four times,

29:27

got some screens involved, You got a screen, uh

29:30

starving it, got a couple you went back to the run.

29:32

Did Shane come in at halftime and say, all right, let's get physical

29:34

fellas this drive established the run, throw some screens,

29:36

get things going, or was that just kind of the flow of the game.

29:39

Just flowed the game.

29:40

I mean, he has his game plan, We have the game plan.

29:42

You know, we wanted to get after those guys and you

29:44

know some of the inside zone stuff that we were doing, and

29:47

and you saw it pop on that drive. We

29:50

was coming at some point. It was you know, we were gonna feature it

29:52

at some point in the game. Just happened to be

29:54

the opening drive of the second half. But had

29:56

a pretty good feeling the fellas up front. They were

29:58

hungry, so we're gonna go ahe and feed him on that.

30:00

Yeah, we were just talking to JSN

30:02

and he was talking about when the balls

30:04

in the air, sort of the anxiety

30:07

that he gets, like you don't know whether

30:09

you're gonna catch it or not. What do you are you

30:11

that kind of guy? Do you think through that? Because for

30:13

me, everything just happened in a blur and then I couldn't

30:15

explain it. But are you a

30:17

guy that like thinks certain things

30:19

when you know you're going to get the ball or the balls in

30:21

the air.

30:22

I mean for me, you

30:25

say you just talked to Jackson, he said he gets anxiety

30:27

when the balls in the air.

30:28

Yeah, it doesn't look like it.

30:30

I'll tell you that.

30:31

No.

30:31

But for me, I mean, I'm a you know, I'm an anxious

30:33

guy pre snap, pre game,

30:36

But as soon as you're in it, I mean, it quiets

30:38

down.

30:39

You're just playing ball. So when the ball's in there,

30:41

you know, we've been doing.

30:42

This for so long, it's seatball

30:45

game, which is nice.

30:48

I was an undrafted guy too, so I

30:50

had a pocket that some of these dudes had

30:53

and we the we go back

30:55

to Cali and all the homies that hitting me up

30:57

for tickets and this and that, and third, I'm like, look, I don't

30:59

know what y'all think I'm getting, hey, but it ain't that.

31:01

So you're going back east now

31:03

you're getting hit up. You gotta gotta buy some tickets

31:06

and what's going on?

31:08

Yeah? Yeah, So we went to New York

31:11

early Baltimore, kind.

31:13

Of right there in the middle.

31:13

We've been back there, but

31:16

I've had a few of those moments. Yeah, you know, you

31:18

know, I think of the NFL guys are making stupid

31:20

money, which you know are yeah,

31:23

exactly, But I haven't hit

31:25

too much of a roadblock on that end.

31:27

That's good. Yeah.

31:28

I remember I bought tickets for my family and my uncle

31:31

Jim gave me a hard time that

31:33

number thirty too, So sure ran you

31:35

over.

31:37

Yeah, you get no more tickets yet.

31:40

So how are we feeling going on the road.

31:43

I mean, I feel like the road winds are so much

31:45

fun. I mean, the plane right back,

31:48

and I think the other thing about it is like a

31:50

home game. Everybody goes their separate ways, but it's

31:52

it's kind of cool. And so going on the

31:54

road, it seems like you guys have got that down

31:56

and you're kind of excited to go to Nashville.

31:58

Yeah, no doubt you. I mean, you hit the nail on the head. It's

32:00

fun to go into you know, somebody else's house and

32:03

and and get a win as a group. Obviously,

32:06

you know Titans are a great team. Have some

32:08

questions that quarterback, but whoever they throw out there is

32:10

is you know, that's a tough, hard nose football

32:13

team, reflection of their coach. So

32:15

it's gonna be a battle. But obviously,

32:17

you know, like you said, go in there and get the w.

32:19

It's definitely a lot more fun on the player right back.

32:22

We're gonna let you go. But we're on the street.

32:24

As you got a T shirt line, tell us about it.

32:27

I gotta I put up a little

32:29

bit of a website just some of the more bobo stuff.

32:32

I appreciate you plugging that because I

32:34

definitely wasn't gonna do it on my own. But

32:36

yeah, I got you know, a link in my my Twitter

32:38

bio, Instagram bio. So if

32:41

you you know, the off chance that you want my face

32:43

on a T.

32:44

Shirt, go ahead and you know hit that.

32:45

There you go. You need to promote your own. I

32:48

need.

32:50

It.

32:50

I need you to do I know, all right, we'll

32:53

do it for you.

32:53

We'll do it for sure. Shot

32:55

out his t shirts.

32:56

Man.

32:56

He will be making plays all the rest of the year.

32:58

Jake Man. We appreciate your time. I appreciate you guys.

33:00

All right. That is it with Jake Bobo on the

33:02

huddle.

33:03

When we returned, we got more to do on Michael Bummas

33:05

with Dave Wyman.

33:06

This is the Huddle presented

33:09

by hun Services and Pacific

33:12

Lamping Supply every Thursday

33:14

from noon to two on Seattle Sports.

33:17

Welcome back to.

33:18

The Huddle on Michael Bumpas joined by Dave Wyman.

33:20

Right now we're going to the podium. Let's hear from

33:23

Geno Smith.

33:25

What was that like Washington again watching Drew

33:27

get that nineteen yard drive?

33:29

That was awesome?

33:31

So excited for Drew man,

33:33

I was that was really cool to see just him

33:35

in that moment, you know, and for all the guys.

33:37

Really that was a big win for us, a

33:39

big, big time game running that football and it's

33:41

a really good.

33:42

Team, you know.

33:43

I thought Drew played really well throughout the game,

33:45

and then you know, for him to close it out

33:47

the way he did, for all the guys to make the place the way

33:49

they did. Man, I was I was just so

33:51

happy, man, I couldn't you know. It was one of

33:53

those nights where you'll remember for the rest of your life.

33:55

Man.

33:55

Just seeing him in that moment and just the way

33:58

that he handled all that was real cool to see.

34:00

He talked that for the game about the way you guys have always

34:02

supported each other, going back to when you're competing for

34:04

the starting.

34:04

Job blast years. What's that winship

34:07

being like between you two.

34:08

It's been great.

34:09

Uh. You know, Drew is a guy who over

34:11

the course of the time we've been together, Man, we've developed

34:14

a real good friendship, a real good bond.

34:16

Uh.

34:16

We've gotten to know each other. We even worked

34:18

out together in the off season. So that's

34:21

something that you know, I appreciate just.

34:23

Being here the QB room.

34:25

Uh, the way that we all are together, Uh,

34:27

with Shane and Tator and you know Coach Oldson

34:30

and Carrie, Uh, Sean Manyon, you

34:32

know Holton when he was here, Brett Rippon, just

34:34

any you know all the guys, man, they they

34:36

make it special. You know, they make it special. We're

34:38

collective, We're we're always together. We're working

34:40

together, and uh, we're all pulling for one another

34:43

no matter who's out there playing. So uh, I

34:45

think that's just an another example of that.

34:47

What was it like for you when he's out there your

34:49

books over you, he smiling, You guys have that moment

34:51

that's Colin Camera's and kind of reveling

34:54

in that when when it.

34:55

Happens, shoot man, Uh, just a

34:57

ton of excitement, you know, just I'm excited

34:59

for him. Uh, being excited that, you know, we just

35:01

got the lead in the game. Just

35:03

a ton of excitement, you know. That was his little deal back

35:05

in Missouri.

35:06

Uh.

35:06

I talked to him about that, you know, a couple of year ago,

35:09

and I was like, man, that was a cool celebration. And I

35:11

was like, next time you throw a touchdown, you know, you gotta do it,

35:13

and you know we'll all do it. And so, uh it was great

35:15

for it to happen in that moment, and like I said,

35:17

man, I'm super proud, super excited for him,

35:20

uh and all the guys. Man, that was a special night.

35:22

P P.

35:23

Pete said, it was wrenching to tell you were gonna

35:25

play. I guess what what what?

35:26

What?

35:26

What was that all?

35:27

Like that. That kind of that pought.

35:29

Yeah, it was, Uh, it was tough.

35:31

It was tough, you know, just preparing

35:33

myself and doing everything that I possibly

35:35

can and be ready to play, feeling like I was ready

35:37

to play, you know, expecting to

35:39

go out there and play, and then you know, coach

35:41

making that decision. You know,

35:43

it's we gotta live with it. And uh, obviously

35:45

I was hurt by it. You know, I wanna go out there and compete.

35:48

I wanna play any chance that I get.

35:50

But I do understand that he's got to make the decision

35:53

for.

35:53

The team and also for my for me,

35:55

you know, to.

35:55

Kind of protect me from myself at times.

35:58

So uh w was you know, had

36:00

to deal with it and move on and go out there and support

36:02

the guys. So that was my main focus once I learned that,

36:04

you know, I wouldn't be able to play.

36:06

How how did you do it?

36:07

How did you deal with it?

36:08

What it had?

36:09

The intrum between him telling

36:11

you and when you decided to come out and

36:14

be a teammate.

36:14

What was how long was that in interim and what

36:16

w What were you thinking?

36:18

Uh?

36:18

I wasn't really counting, but I mean to shoot

36:20

man, I was just trying to, you know, come to

36:22

grips with the fact that I wouldn't be able to play. It's

36:25

always gonna hurt it, h you know, I always told you guys

36:27

man, anytime that I wasn't able to go out there all those

36:29

years, Uh, it hurt me. You know, it hurt me cause

36:31

I felt like I was ready and so that was no different.

36:34

You know, I wanna be a part of this team.

36:35

I wanna help this team and contribute and

36:38

uh be a part of the wins. And so you know,

36:40

for me not to be able to go play, I mean obviously you

36:42

know, as a as a a as a competitor, you

36:44

know you're hurt by it. But as a teammate, you gotta

36:46

put your pride to the side, put those things to the side.

36:48

You go to the side and go out there and do

36:50

whatever you can to help.

36:51

The team in another role. So that's you know kind

36:53

of what I did. How did that work out go for

36:55

you? Like, how did you feel coming out of it?

36:57

Did you were you maybe even better than you thought

36:59

you were gonna be at that point kind of working through it

37:01

and trying to get ready.

37:03

Uh, I I actually expected it, you know, I expected

37:05

to be ready, Uh, because of the amount of work I put

37:07

in. You know, I talk to you guys about that about you know, the

37:09

early mornings and the late nights, and I

37:12

think that helps me, you know, recover faster. And

37:14

uh so I expected to be ready to play.

37:16

And like I said, you know, coach made

37:18

a decision, and.

37:19

Uh that was that. But you know I was.

37:21

I was doing everything I can to be ready, and you know,

37:23

just as I always do.

37:24

So it wasn't no different there was there you'd rather.

37:26

Be on the field.

37:27

But what do you learn when you were in a position

37:29

to help coach or help teach, or be the

37:31

second set of eyes for somebody on the shield.

37:33

You know, I've been in that role before, so uh,

37:35

you know it was kind of natural for me. And I was able

37:38

to just go out there and you know, be

37:40

the second eye for Drew, like you said, and you

37:42

know, help him see some things on the field, talk him

37:44

through some scenarios and really

37:47

just give him some confidence, you know, give him some love, let

37:49

him know that, uh, you know, he's playing great and that

37:51

the opportunity is gonna come for him to go out there and

37:53

make it happen.

37:54

And Uh, that's what he did.

37:55

Do you think you appreciate a little more everything Drew's

37:57

going through because of the journey of your career is

37:59

taken.

38:00

Oh, without a doubt, you know, without a doubt.

38:02

I know exactly, you know, not exactly,

38:04

but you know, I kind of know what he feels, and I

38:06

know he wants to be out there competing as well.

38:08

And uh, you know.

38:09

Your opportunities come when they come, and you gotta be ready

38:11

for him.

38:12

And I think he did a great job being ready.

38:13

Uh.

38:14

How are you feeling this week now?

38:15

I feel pretty good? Still getting better, Yes, sir,

38:18

you think you're gonna play someday, I would hope.

38:20

So when

38:23

you look at the Saitans defense, then what stands

38:25

out most in the numbers?

38:27

Yeah, I think, you know, just overall watching

38:29

them, you l you look at uh

38:32

the guys up front, you know they got a bunch of sacks.

38:34

Uh Denico Archie. I think that's how you say his

38:36

name. Uh's already got eleven sacks. You

38:38

got uh Simmons in there. Who's uh one

38:40

of the best interior guys.

38:42

In the league.

38:43

I think Hero Harol Landry's you know, starting

38:45

to get you know better, and better each week coming off

38:47

an injury. You know, the mindset

38:49

of their coach and Mike v Vrabel defensive

38:52

minded coach, tough guy, so they're

38:54

gonna follow suit. And so they got guys all across

38:56

the board that can make plays, a bunch of different

38:59

packages. They mixed the looks, multiple

39:01

looks, multiple coverages, and you

39:03

know, they really play hard uh throughout the game. So

39:06

another great challenge for US UH on the road.

39:09

You know, I've played in Tennessee once

39:11

before early in my career, so I know how that is,

39:13

and so just got to be prepared for that and

39:15

you know, just ready to handle all the noise and you

39:18

know, be prepared to handle the rush and then go out there

39:20

and get the ball up.

39:22

What do you?

39:22

Uh?

39:23

What were you?

39:23

What are you able to do now?

39:24

Maybe physically that you know, couldn't get you cleared

39:26

on on Sunday or excuse me on Monday.

39:29

Uh, I'm not sure. I you know, I I felt

39:31

the same Monday that I.

39:32

Do now.

39:34

With with Jackson too, this touchdowns or

39:36

game winners down on the year. He's

39:38

obviously played in some big games at Ohio State previously,

39:40

but what's kind of made him be ready

39:42

for for moments like that.

39:44

From from your skin point.

39:46

Yeah, I think you know initially what you

39:48

spoke on, you know, playing at Ohio State, playing a bunch

39:50

of big games and uh being dominating

39:52

those big games, you know, being the key factor in those

39:54

games. So he expects to make those plays

39:56

when the game's on the line. And I think just

39:59

you know, from him for the short time I've known

40:01

him, the confidence he has in his ability,

40:04

his understanding of the game, his cool,

40:07

calm, collective demeanor, uh, and just

40:09

the way that he goes out there and competes every single

40:11

time. When his opportunity comes, he's

40:13

ready for it and he makes the play. And that's you know, that's all

40:15

you can ask from a guy like that. He's a

40:17

special player, as I've always said, and he's just getting

40:20

better and better each week.

40:21

All right. That was Gino Smith,

40:23

your quarterback. When we return, Man, we're

40:25

going to go into the trenches with Ray Roberts.

40:28

This is the Huddle if

40:31

we thirsted from noon to two, presented

40:33

by hung the Services.

40:36

Lambing Jupply. Welcome

40:40

back to the Huddle of Michael Bamas with Dave Whyman.

40:42

Uh.

40:43

Now we are joined by the big

40:45

homie, that dude seventy two.

40:47

What's up, big raight? You are

40:49

a big dog.

40:49

How you doing?

40:50

You know, just in the Quartes

40:53

Kennedy booth doing some radio

40:55

with my man. Whyman, dude, let's

40:58

get let's get right into the trenches, man, because I've I've

41:00

been wondering on your thoughts on this man. Abe

41:02

Lucas has been back for three games now. Fifty

41:05

percent of the snaps the first game, eighty

41:07

something percent the second game. I believe he played every

41:09

snap on offense this game. Have

41:12

you seen any transformation with

41:15

the offensive line or do you feel like it's

41:17

just plugging and playing and things are still moving the

41:19

same. No.

41:21

I'm excited that they have both

41:23

Bradford and Big a plan

41:25

next to each other so that they can get

41:27

that chemistry down because they are two big, powerful

41:30

dudes that can move the pal they

41:32

can when they come in, when they work on double

41:34

teams, whoever their blocking gets smashed,

41:37

and then when they're working one on one they

41:40

do a really good job. So I think Abe

41:42

brings also the physicality and

41:45

just the mentality to the offensive

41:47

line that they've missed. This is a pretty

41:49

quiet offensive line. It's not a whole

41:51

lot of outspoken dudes, and Aid is not one

41:53

that way either. But if you're around Ad,

41:56

you can feel his presence, and his presence

41:59

is kind of a kick ass kind of a presence,

42:01

and they needed that on the offensive line.

42:03

I love that Ray. We

42:05

interviewed him the other day.

42:07

We asked him about the PAC twelve and

42:10

uh and the first thing out of his mouth,

42:12

he goes, well, Larry Scott's an idiot, you

42:15

know. I mean that dude, Yeah,

42:17

he will, he will tell you what's what. He's

42:19

a very serious guy. I

42:22

love that about him. I love his personality.

42:25

It looks like he doesn't take any crap off of anybody.

42:29

Sounds like a big number seventy two that

42:31

I used to play with back in the day.

42:32

But yeah, well you know, to me, Dave,

42:35

it's like it's that time of the year, man,

42:37

where the table is set and it's

42:39

time for the big dogs to eat.

42:40

You know this.

42:41

At this time of the year, teams

42:43

that start to run the ball, well, teams

42:46

that starts to dominate the offensive line, I mean the line

42:48

of scrimmage, whether it's on the defensive side or

42:50

the offensive side, or the teams that have what

42:53

you guys would call momentum going into the.

42:56

What you guys would say, and.

43:00

The teams that run the ball.

43:02

Well tend to go

43:04

further into playoffs. Maybe they haven't run it well

43:07

all season long, but around this time

43:09

of the year, when they start to kind of dominate

43:11

the line of scrimmage in the physical way,

43:13

that's when they start. Those are the teams that do damage

43:15

to the playoffs.

43:17

Hey, Ray, I thought the other thing, you know, that

43:20

we didn't really notice the offensive line in

43:22

the Philly game, and that I mean, shoot, there wasn't

43:24

a sack.

43:24

I think.

43:25

I think our guy Drew

43:27

Locket sacked twice, but there wasn't a

43:29

sack till like the third quarter. I mean, I thought everything

43:32

looked really good, and it seems like, you

43:35

know, just talk a little bit about Canine

43:37

and his running.

43:39

I mean, his feet are.

43:40

Phenomenal, how quickly he moves

43:42

those feet, but it seems like the offensive

43:45

line's trying sort of kind of getting

43:47

his running style.

43:49

Well, I'm glad you brought that up, Dave, because just

43:52

watching the film and just watching the last

43:54

couple, you know, the last game and a half,

43:57

I think it was important for Kine

44:00

and the offensive line for their styles

44:03

to match. Because you had this

44:05

big, physical offensive line that's

44:07

more of a downhill you know,

44:09

kind of in your face kind of offensive line.

44:11

You had this running back that was kind

44:14

of his.

44:16

Skill set is.

44:17

To kind of it's kind of like a little junebug.

44:19

He just bounces all around all over the

44:22

place. And so for this offense

44:24

to work, there has to be a physicality to it.

44:27

And so the last game and a half, Knine

44:29

has brought that. Even though he's not the biggest

44:31

dude in the world. But when he gets

44:33

downhill, when he goes north and south and

44:35

he gets to the second level before he starts

44:38

to do you know, making people

44:40

miss and bouncing things to the outside

44:43

and all those kinds of things, he is a much

44:45

more effective runner. Like it's

44:47

cool to see when he cuts up

44:49

the ball all the way back to the backside

44:52

reversus field and all that kind of stuff. But that

44:54

cannot be every single play, Every

44:56

single running play cannot be a home

44:59

run, it can't be a iigh like film. Sometimes

45:01

you have to get the yards that are there, and

45:03

he's done a much better job of getting the

45:05

yards that are there.

45:06

It kind of.

45:07

Matches the tempo and the temperament

45:09

of the offensive line better. And I think you've

45:11

seen the.

45:11

Offensive line run the ball better.

45:14

And then I'm telling you, Dave, we talked

45:16

about this a little bit in the pregame last week.

45:18

Is that just like when you

45:20

start the game and you're trying to see the

45:22

different running the different receivers, that kind

45:24

of get them into the flow.

45:25

Of the game.

45:26

Running the football gets offensive

45:29

linemen into the flow of the game. Not

45:31

if you come out throw it the first five times,

45:33

that doesn't do it. But if you come out

45:35

or you run the ball. You know, a couple of

45:37

times, you get a long drive going. He sustained the

45:39

drive, and you're running the football as

45:41

an offensive lineman, you get your mindset

45:44

into the game in a way that's different than

45:46

when you're just dropping back and throwing at thirty

45:48

or forty times game.

45:50

You know it real quick.

45:50

Ray as a linebacker, I hated

45:53

it when I remember we played the Oilers

45:55

that run.

45:56

And shoot, and like the first

45:58

two and a half series, well, it was

46:00

all.

46:01

Pass It was all passed, and you

46:03

know, and I didn't I didn't hit anybody

46:06

for like eight minutes of the game.

46:08

And you're right, man, I mean it

46:11

just like it just feels and you know, I

46:13

mean you're hitting people in you're pass blocking, but it's more

46:15

it's more passive, man, you want to be aggressive.

46:19

Well, I mean when I played in Detroit,

46:21

you know, we as we had Barry and we practiced,

46:23

you know, all week, this is how we're going to run

46:25

the ball with Barry. And then we had a sly Cromes

46:28

who was our offensive coordinator, and Sylvester

46:30

Krumes. And there's a few games

46:33

where we start the game out throwing the ball, or

46:35

we start the game out running to the right

46:37

side. So then I'm chasing backside

46:40

linebackers and safeties the whole time. And so

46:42

I would go to the sideline and get on the phone and I'd

46:44

go, hey, fly, like I'm really trying to play

46:46

today, Like.

46:47

Let's let's football day.

46:49

Like I'm not a truck star. I can't

46:51

run with those freaking little dudes that wear the

46:53

fifty and below numbers. So let me hit

46:55

some of these big number dudes. Can you Can you run the ball

46:58

to the left side just a couple of times, you

47:00

know, because it kind of gets you, It gets you grooved

47:02

into the game. So I feel like the

47:05

way that he's running the ball, getting downhill,

47:07

running between the tackles, and and then

47:09

the way it matches with what the offensive

47:12

line does well in the running game. I think

47:14

that is that is the magic

47:16

that's going to keep this offense is going.

47:19

Yeah.

47:19

We spoke to Jake Bobo Man and I asked

47:21

him about that first drive of the second half.

47:23

I go, man, dude, did Shane to say, look, we're

47:25

gonna run that thing? Because K nine

47:27

had four carries, Charbonnay

47:30

had two couple screens and then K

47:32

nine scores again, I would imagine

47:35

that was intentional get getting these guys

47:37

going up.

47:38

What did you think about that drive?

47:40

Yeah?

47:40

I think so too.

47:41

I mean I noticed that when they came out, you know,

47:43

and it was just a different energy. It

47:46

was I think maybe going into the game

47:48

with the with the skill and the

47:50

rotation that Philadelphia had on the defensive

47:53

line, maybe they were trying to like, I don't want to

47:55

say they're intimidated a boy that, but they're trying to figure

47:57

out what to do with it. And then they just figured out,

47:59

like you know what, and just run the ball right at him. They

48:01

haven't stopped anybody in two weeks running

48:03

the ball, so let's just get right at him. And that's what they

48:05

did. They do a really good job, you know, Dave,

48:08

I heard you talking yesterday about uh,

48:10

the pen and pull like you know when you when you're you're

48:13

you know, we're pulling the backside guard at the backside

48:15

tight end and uh. And they've done a really good

48:17

job with that. In the San Francisco game, I

48:19

thought that, uh, that Damian Lewis

48:22

is a little bit off on his on his traps.

48:24

But this game he was doing a good job getting

48:26

inside out, blocking the defender out

48:28

and then and then kanw was getting right up the field

48:30

and then putting jukes on the linebackers.

48:33

And so to me, that's a good thumber for this

48:35

offensive line. For the offense, you can use a

48:37

play action pass a little bit better. And even though

48:39

people say flay action pass works

48:41

without a good running game, whell, it works even better if

48:43

you have a good running game. So there's

48:46

benefit to all of it.

48:48

All right, big ray Man, we appreciate

48:50

your time as always. Man look forward

48:52

to kicking it on Sunday and breaking this game down.

48:55

Yes, sir, let them big dogs eat baby.

49:00

But more to do.

49:01

When we get back, We're gonna holler at the Voice of the Seahawks,

49:03

Steve Rabel, that is next right here in the huddle.

49:08

This this is the Huddle presented

49:11

by Hunt Services, Pacific

49:13

Lamp and Supply every Thursday

49:15

from noon to two on Seattle Sports.

49:19

Welcome back to the huddle.

49:20

I'm Michael Bumpus with Dave Wyman, and now we

49:22

are joined by the.

49:23

Voice of the Seahawks, Steve Rabel. Raves.

49:25

How are we doing today?

49:27

Great Happy holidays to you guys, Thank.

49:30

You, and to you too, sir.

49:32

I'm sitting here with your guy, Dave Wyman,

49:35

breaking down what happened last week and what we

49:37

think is going to happen this week. My first

49:39

question is last week about

49:42

last week when when Drew Lock was

49:44

under center at the eighth yard line,

49:47

what were your probabilities that he

49:50

was going to be able to drive this team down

49:52

the field and score the game when a touchdown?

49:55

You know, I have heard the replay

49:57

of a couple of those past completion calls,

50:00

and as I remember, and you

50:02

can ask Dave, there's not a lot that I remember

50:05

from literally from serious to series,

50:07

game to game, months to month, it's

50:10

you know, when you get this, it

50:12

just things get foggy. Anyway, I

50:14

think I remember kind of setting the scene

50:17

in exactly that way that,

50:19

okay, here we go, like one forty

50:22

two left to play, ninety two yards

50:24

to cover field goal, won't

50:26

do it, got to be a touchdown. Sort of set

50:28

it all up, and then here we go. And then

50:30

DK has his three catches out

50:32

of his five total in that drive, and

50:35

of course one big one and then the big one to the

50:37

end zone. It was it was

50:39

just remarkable. And I've heard this on the

50:41

air a couple of times now. There's been a promotion,

50:44

a promo with Brock. He were talking

50:46

about the power of belief,

50:49

and you know, that really stuck with me

50:52

when I heard Brock say that after the fact

50:54

that that is exactly what it is. These guys just

50:57

did not stop believing that

50:59

they could win that football game. And then it

51:01

also turned it over to the defense to

51:03

make the big play at the very end on the interception

51:06

by Julian to cap it. So it

51:09

was just a remarkable Monday night. I was so

51:11

darn tired when I got home. I mean, my

51:13

side's burt from yelling and my

51:17

throat was a mess, and it.

51:19

Was all worth it.

51:20

When the whole dry started, Rebel

51:22

looked at me and goes, we're screwed.

51:26

That's what I remember.

51:27

Anyway, I'm kidding

51:29

from a bad dave.

51:31

I'm kidding, I'm kidding. No, it was it

51:34

was I guess, you know, Rabes.

51:35

I would say, I'm the same way like you call the

51:37

game, like I have to write down things as they happen, because

51:40

you call the game and then all of a sudden it starts to you

51:42

know, wait, was this in the first quarter or the fourth quarter

51:44

or whatever?

51:45

But I remember thinking that, hey, we

51:47

got a chance here.

51:48

The way that Drew was playing and

51:51

the way he had played last week, I

51:53

felt like he gave you a good reason to think

51:56

that that could happen. And that's

51:58

that's the remarkable thing thing I think about

52:01

him, you know, having kind of spotty

52:03

starts here and there, but then you know,

52:05

he finds out pretty late in San Francisco

52:08

that he's going to be the starter, and so yeah,

52:10

kind of felt.

52:11

Like he was he was going to handle it.

52:13

Now.

52:13

I don't know if I thought, oh, he's going to go down easy,

52:15

you know, ninety two yards whatever, but I

52:17

mean that was I would

52:19

say we were pretty hopeful based

52:22

on the fact that just what

52:24

we had seen from from Drew Locke.

52:27

Yeah, and you know something else, and Dave, you

52:29

know this as a player, when

52:31

you know that you have a

52:34

guy like Drew who has been the backup

52:36

ball season and who is now you know, thrust

52:38

into that starting role. Drew

52:40

obviously has a lot of support from the coaching

52:43

staff. They're preparing him well, he

52:45

practiced well, He's got Geno on the sidelines

52:48

to help him out. But the rest

52:50

of those guys on the field were not going to

52:52

let him fail. So you look

52:54

at that catch, that that slant route that

52:57

that that DK caught down

52:59

on the ground, pinned it against

53:01

his hip with his left hand. He was

53:03

just not going to allow his quarterback

53:06

to fail in that situation. He was gonna make

53:08

every play and every one of those guys,

53:10

the guys up front on offense giving Drew

53:12

time to throw the football, and the

53:14

running backs who helped get him to that position. Again,

53:18

you know, I'm just so happy for the

53:20

guys, as I know all of us are, because

53:22

we get to know these guys and you appreciate

53:24

him, and you know, when you've been there.

53:27

How hard a job that is, how hard a

53:29

work they put into that to win that game.

53:31

So Drew

53:34

did what Drew does and

53:36

he got.

53:36

A lot of help from the guys to

53:39

get there. And ultimately it

53:42

was from I think that message

53:44

from Pete that you know, there's nothing beyond

53:46

our reach that if you believe

53:49

we can get there, you just got to play one

53:51

play better for one play longer.

53:53

Well, let's talk about this week, Ravees. I'll

53:56

look at this matchup and obviously have d Henry

53:58

over there. Offensively, their

54:00

defensive line has been pretty.

54:02

Good this year.

54:03

What do you think about this matchup in how the

54:05

Hawk stack up against the Titans.

54:07

Well, I just got off the phone, in

54:10

fact, when you guys called with some guys in Nashville

54:12

radio station there and they were really

54:14

lamenting their offensive line. They said, you know, we

54:16

got a mess up front offensively.

54:18

Well, you know, we were in that same

54:21

position last year with two rookies starting. They

54:23

got two rookies who were starting on the left side,

54:25

one of them the first round draft Joys, one of the sixth

54:27

round draft Joys. So it's been a little difficult.

54:30

They're on their third center of

54:32

the season. So it's been they've been a little

54:34

in some upheaval upfront

54:37

offensively, and now you throw a

54:39

rookie quarterback behind them who's

54:41

played the last portion of the season, although

54:43

he may not play this week, and so you go

54:45

back to Ryan Tannehill, who's a veteran of a

54:48

dozen years, and that guy can play, and then go

54:51

ultimately to as you said, King Henry Derrick

54:54

Henry Is they're kind of staying

54:56

down in Tennessee.

54:57

This is the end for him.

54:58

He's you know, on time, he's

55:01

a free agent at the end of the season that Titans

55:03

are probably not going to sign him back. And

55:07

you know, the last game that they played, he didn't look very

55:09

good. I mean, he just looked slow getting to

55:11

the line of scrimmage. That's the time

55:13

that you really buckle down and prepare

55:15

because this guy can still bring it. He's

55:18

the guy who rushed for one hundred and eighty two yards against

55:21

US a few years ago, So I put nothing

55:23

past him. Defensively, they're missing

55:25

maybe their best guy up front, Jeffrey Simmons. I

55:27

don't think he's going to play their

55:29

defensive lineman. He's a good one, but they're

55:32

talented as every team is

55:34

in the league. So the Seahawks are not going

55:37

to be able to sit around and think, Wow, what a great game we played

55:39

on Monday night. No, they're already

55:41

into the Tennessee preparation.

55:43

Yeah, I think you're right.

55:44

I'm glad you brought up the offensive line rates because

55:46

they've been sacked fifty times. They're

55:49

three quarterbacks and whatever combination they

55:51

have there, and you know, when you look at that, that's

55:53

up their top of the league. As far as if

55:56

you look at like Howell from the

55:58

Commanders, I think he's been sacked fifty

56:00

times or more. But our offensive line,

56:02

you know, the one thing I said, Steve, I felt

56:05

like we didn't really notice them. I mean we didn't Drew

56:07

didn't get sacked until the second half,

56:10

and you know, we had that sort of pulling

56:12

guard motion with Damian Lewis and.

56:14

He was clear in the path.

56:16

I mean, I felt like that, And maybe that's the best

56:18

thing that you can say about an offensive

56:20

line is you didn't really notice them. But I feel like that

56:22

might be an advantage because they definitely

56:25

give up sacks and I feel

56:27

like our offensive line is rolling.

56:29

Right now exactly. It didn't

56:31

have as I remember, didn't have any full

56:33

start penalties on offensive lineman. I know, we're

56:35

tight end kind of chipped in on that a couple of times.

56:38

Yeah, that's right.

56:40

The line I thought played really

56:42

well against the Eagles. And as you

56:45

know, as you guys know, that front

56:47

four of the Eagles is pretty formidable.

56:49

They're tough, and they got a bunch of high

56:51

round draft choices, first voices up

56:53

there. They have linebackers who can run all

56:56

over the field. May played, so I thought

56:58

they handled that really well. Couple

57:00

of times I remember Bradford at one point kind

57:02

of whipped a little bit on h on. Uh

57:04

yeah, just got poor

57:07

Drew got hammered, uh, just as

57:09

he got rid of the football. But yeah,

57:12

oh it was Carter.

57:13

You're right, it was.

57:14

And you know Jalen Carter is going to bash

57:16

a lot of people before his career is over, so that

57:19

that's that's something that you're you know, don't lose

57:21

any sleep over that one. But you're right, they

57:23

just played well, as did the entire offense, and then

57:26

handed to the defense. You know, you're holding

57:28

holding a team like the Eagles to seventeen

57:31

points and you're picking picking

57:33

hurts off twice. Thank you, Julian. Just

57:36

just a great all round game.

57:39

All right, raise man.

57:40

We appreciate your time and you enjoy

57:43

that nice long flight to Nashville.

57:45

Man, make sure you get some sleep and we'll talk

57:48

to you soon.

57:49

Well, if Dave brings my Christmas present,

57:51

we'll have a lovely flight.

57:54

I got Christmas and New Year's covered this

57:58

great. All right, take

58:00

care of you bit. All right, but we returned. We'll

58:02

get an opponent preview from Ben Author.

58:05

He is the anc South reporter for Fox Sports.

58:07

That's next right here on the huddle.

58:11

This This is the Huddle presented

58:14

by hun Services and Pacific

58:17

Lamping Supply every Thursday

58:19

from noon to two on Seattle Sports.

58:22

Welcome back to the huddle.

58:23

We are now joined by Ben Author, the Anti

58:25

South reporter for Fox Sports.

58:26

Ben, how are you doing today?

58:28

Doing well?

58:29

How are you? We're good, man, we

58:31

are good.

58:31

Before I ask you specifics about this

58:34

matchup, man, I got to ask you, how

58:36

fired did you think though those uniforms were

58:38

last week?

58:39

Man? Those are I'd say they right behind the Seahawks

58:41

throwbacks.

58:41

Man, Yeah, the Oilers

58:44

throwbacks are nice. And it

58:46

was actually the second time they'd warn

58:49

them this season, and yeah,

58:51

just love it. That tone of

58:53

blue with the red, and you

58:56

know, people here in Nashville had been kind

58:58

of wanting that for years and years,

59:01

and so to see it kind

59:03

of come to fruition that you know, they're

59:05

wearing it two times this

59:08

season, It's been really cool to see. Like, as

59:11

you said, the Seahawks throwbacks are

59:13

fire too, But honestly, I

59:15

think I like the Oilers throwbacks

59:18

just a little bit more. I'd probably put them

59:20

at one and then the Seahawks throwbacks

59:22

at number two.

59:23

All right, man, at that My very first throwback

59:26

jersey was a warn Moon Oilers

59:29

jersey back in the two thousands,

59:31

So yeah, I got a soft spot form. But let's

59:33

talk some football, man. The Titans.

59:36

You guys are an interesting team man, watching

59:38

a lot of film on you guys. Obviously

59:40

have d hop on the outside. Derek Henry

59:43

struggled a little bit the last couple of weeks. What

59:45

do you think is going on there? Is it just teams loading

59:48

up the box? Is that him just having an off week? What do you

59:50

see in the run game?

59:52

Yeah, I think the biggest

59:54

thing is just kind of personnel

59:58

in being like the deficiencies on

1:00:00

the offensive line, Like they just don't

1:00:02

have an offensive line that's

1:00:05

very competitive. I mean, they've they've had

1:00:07

injuries, but then I just think from a talent

1:00:09

standpoint, up front, they just haven't been very

1:00:11

good. It's impacted Will

1:00:14

Levis's process. And

1:00:16

a big reason why he's hurt and and

1:00:18

kind of uncertain for this game is, you

1:00:21

know, because of that ankle injury he suffered

1:00:24

against the Texans last week because the Titans

1:00:26

couldn't protect him. He was sacked seven

1:00:29

times in that game. The the old line

1:00:31

is giving it their like third worst

1:00:34

in pressure rate allowed. And

1:00:36

then in the run game too,

1:00:38

it's been really a steady decline

1:00:41

in run blocking for the Titans over the

1:00:44

last several years. And yeah,

1:00:46

maybe Derrick Henry isn't exactly the

1:00:48

same player he was a few years ago,

1:00:50

like when he ran when he rushed

1:00:52

for two thousand, but his

1:00:56

efficiency has also taken a hit because

1:00:58

the old line just isn't as good as

1:01:01

it used to be. And so I

1:01:03

think a lot of their issues and

1:01:05

the Titans have a lot of issues, don't get me wrong,

1:01:08

but I think offensively, it

1:01:11

really starts with the offensive line

1:01:14

and kind of the issues they've had at

1:01:16

tackle and at guard.

1:01:19

Yeah, it's all about those big boys.

1:01:20

Man, we feel you over here in Seattle because there's

1:01:22

been some shuffling going on on that

1:01:25

offensive line.

1:01:25

Man.

1:01:26

You mentioned Will Levis again

1:01:29

breaking him down watching film he's completing

1:01:31

with fifty nine percent of his past is seventeen hundred yards.

1:01:33

We'll see if he plays this week.

1:01:34

Sounds doubtful. But what are

1:01:37

the vibes on Levis over there in Tennessee?

1:01:40

Man?

1:01:40

I think I appreciate his game. I see the potential

1:01:42

in this young man. But what do the fans

1:01:44

feel and what does the organization feel about Levis?

1:01:48

Yeah, I think the expectations are

1:01:50

really they're really high for him, and

1:01:52

I think there's a lot of optimism of

1:01:55

what he can be. I think he's shown

1:01:57

several flashes that he could be the guy,

1:02:00

like a franchise long term

1:02:02

quarterback for this franchise.

1:02:05

I mean it's you see it in

1:02:08

the toughness, the competitiveness,

1:02:10

the firiness, which I think we've all

1:02:12

seen like videos of just how

1:02:15

how just amped up she gets after a

1:02:17

big play. But I think for

1:02:19

one, he's really shown up in big moments

1:02:22

like he had his best game of his career

1:02:24

to this point against the Dolphins

1:02:27

on Monday Night football against a

1:02:29

Dolphins team in contention for the AFC's

1:02:32

number one seed, and to have his best game of

1:02:35

his career to that point, I

1:02:37

think it said a lot about him. In his

1:02:39

first career start. I

1:02:42

think we all remember he had four touchdown

1:02:44

passes, just kind of lit the world on fire

1:02:47

after kind of starting the season as

1:02:50

QB three in Tennessee. So he's

1:02:52

a guy who kind of seems to rise

1:02:55

to the occasion. He's extremely

1:02:58

tough. I

1:03:00

know the Titans have been harping on him to kind

1:03:02

of do a better job of protecting

1:03:05

himself, and that's kind of gotten him in

1:03:07

some trouble. And the old line has kind

1:03:10

of impacted that too, But there have

1:03:12

been instances where you would like to see him

1:03:14

slide instead of kind of lowering

1:03:17

the shoulder. But I

1:03:20

think overall it's been

1:03:22

really promising, and then you just think about

1:03:24

what he can be once you do improve

1:03:26

that old line and you get

1:03:28

him another receiver too. With all

1:03:31

the cap space they have, like they lead the league

1:03:34

in cap space for twenty twenty four as of

1:03:36

right now, and they have some draft picks too. So

1:03:39

I think with all of that considered, plus the

1:03:41

flashes he's shown this season, a

1:03:44

lot people here in Nashville, I think, are really

1:03:46

really excited for what he can

1:03:48

be.

1:03:49

That's awesome, Mom, I'm excited for him too.

1:03:51

Man.

1:03:51

I underestimated him, but when you turn on the film,

1:03:53

there's no denying what he brings to the table.

1:03:56

Let's talk about a better man. D hot

1:03:58

Man.

1:03:58

Five time Pro Bowler, three time All Pro guy,

1:04:01

He's on pace for a seven to one thousand yard

1:04:04

season. What do you make of his play this year?

1:04:06

And why is he still so special? And

1:04:08

I watch him, he's still moving like a young man.

1:04:11

Yeah, No, de hawp has been great

1:04:13

for this Titans team. I think

1:04:16

there was kind of a lot of there's

1:04:19

kind of like cautious optimism for

1:04:22

people here just because they have been

1:04:24

burned by those veteran

1:04:27

receivers who've maybe been great in the past,

1:04:30

but they're kind of closer to the till end of their

1:04:32

career, like Julio Jones ended

1:04:34

up being a disaster for them, Robert

1:04:36

Woods didn't pan out well,

1:04:39

and and so I think

1:04:41

a lot of people didn't really know what to expect.

1:04:43

But de Hawp As you said, I mean

1:04:45

he's he's still shown that he's an

1:04:48

elite caliber receiver. Over

1:04:50

the last several weeks, we've seen his rapport

1:04:53

with Will Levis really grow. They've

1:04:56

kind of gotten on the same page over

1:04:59

time him and I just think

1:05:01

his play style is just has

1:05:05

maybe enabled him to still

1:05:07

be effective at this point in his career.

1:05:09

Like he doesn't he plays really smart,

1:05:12

he doesn't take uh, you

1:05:14

know, a lot of big hits. He gets out of

1:05:16

bounds when he needs to. He's

1:05:19

not Tyler Lockett in any way,

1:05:22

Like they're not really similar at all. But I

1:05:24

just think in terms of being able

1:05:26

to protect themselves and and then

1:05:29

from Hopkins standpoint, he still has

1:05:31

just amazing hands, Like I don't think

1:05:34

that ever goes away, and and

1:05:36

and the catch radius and and all

1:05:38

those kind of natural instincts

1:05:41

haven't gone away. And so I think

1:05:43

that's why, even though he's in his thirties

1:05:45

at this point, why he's still been

1:05:48

so good and honestly he's been their

1:05:50

most reliable receiver.

1:05:52

And so he's just gotten the targets too.

1:05:55

Like Treylon Burke's a former first round pick

1:05:58

just hasn't lived up to expectations,

1:06:00

and then beyond him, they don't really

1:06:02

have a lot of talent in that room. So de

1:06:05

Hop has been getting a lot of targets. But because

1:06:07

of I think all those things I just said,

1:06:10

he has still been very, very good at

1:06:12

this point in his career.

1:06:14

Yeah, the last thing to go all the hands man, everything

1:06:16

else to go before them hand So it doesn't

1:06:18

surprise me that d Hop is doing his thing.

1:06:20

Let's talk about these numbers a little bit, because.

1:06:23

You know, during like the first four weeks of a season,

1:06:25

you say, all right, these are the numbers, but

1:06:28

my team is either better or worse than these numbers

1:06:30

because it's hard to really judge a team out the first four weeks.

1:06:32

Right.

1:06:32

Then you get deeper into the season you

1:06:35

say, okay, this is who we are. But I look

1:06:37

at the Seahawks and the Titans when it comes

1:06:39

to total defense, total offense, and I go, all

1:06:41

right, in some areas they are playing better

1:06:43

than what the numbers show.

1:06:45

What would you say is the best part of this Titans

1:06:47

team so far?

1:06:50

Oh, the best part I

1:06:52

would I

1:06:54

go to the defensive front

1:06:57

and the pass rush. That's the

1:07:00

pass rush has been probably the

1:07:02

titans number one attribute. For

1:07:04

the last few seasons, and it

1:07:06

hasn't branded. It hasn't been as

1:07:09

consistent this year for a

1:07:11

variety of reasons. And

1:07:14

Jeffrey Simmons, even he's questionable

1:07:17

to kind of play this week. He's won of the best

1:07:20

d tackles in football,

1:07:23

and so they've kind of had injury issues.

1:07:25

But I think all in all, the

1:07:28

pass rush is kind of it's been

1:07:30

When the pass rush is on, they usually win

1:07:32

games. And these

1:07:35

last few weeks we have kind of

1:07:37

seen that pass rush play

1:07:39

to its standard. More that they

1:07:41

do have a lot of money dedicated

1:07:44

up front. I mean, Jeffrey Simmons is

1:07:46

the totality of his contract is ninety

1:07:48

million plus. Harol Landry

1:07:51

is making eighty million plus. De

1:07:53

Nico Autrey. He's in

1:07:56

his thirties, but he has eleven

1:07:58

sacks on the year. This

1:08:02

Titans team is still very much,

1:08:04

I think built around that D

1:08:06

line and the ability to generate pressure,

1:08:10

and so I think that's been

1:08:13

maybe probably their most consistent

1:08:15

calling card. I mean, I think traditionally

1:08:17

we've known it to be the run

1:08:19

game and Derrick Henry, but because of O line

1:08:22

issues, we haven't really seen that and and

1:08:24

the O line obviously impacts

1:08:26

the process of what you can do in the passing

1:08:29

game. Two and then just defensively.

1:08:32

The Titans have had a lot of secondary issues

1:08:35

over the last couple of years, but I think the constant

1:08:37

has been what

1:08:41

like the upside of kind of like the

1:08:43

pass rush and being able to disrupt opposing

1:08:45

quarterbacks and and

1:08:47

so I would say that's probably

1:08:50

the thing that can you

1:08:52

know, be the Seahawks for

1:08:55

Tennessee is if they

1:08:57

get what four or five plus sacks, I

1:09:00

think that's kind of their path to winning.

1:09:03

All right, I'll be looking for that match up. Ben.

1:09:05

He has been Arthur the AFC South

1:09:08

reporter for Fox Sports.

1:09:09

Ben, we appreciate your time.

1:09:10

Ha a good week, no problem,

1:09:12

thanks for having me.

1:09:13

All right.

1:09:14

Coming up next, we'll get a visit from John Boyle.

1:09:16

That is next right here in the Huddle.

1:09:20

This is the Huddle, presented

1:09:23

by hun Services and Pacific

1:09:26

Lamping Supply.

1:09:27

Every Thursday from noon to two on Seattle

1:09:30

Sports.

1:09:32

Welcome back to the Huddle, Michael Bompas with Dave

1:09:34

Wiman, and we're joined now by John Boyle,

1:09:37

one of the best writers in all the land, representing

1:09:40

Blanchet High School.

1:09:40

So John, hey, there you go. Oh

1:09:43

man, great game.

1:09:45

You know, for those of you who don't know, Boyle

1:09:47

and I sit in the press box, and then the

1:09:49

press box there is protocol. You cannot

1:09:51

cheer, you can't get loud. You're supposed

1:09:53

to be professional.

1:09:55

That's why I leave in the fourth quarter, right

1:09:57

go down to Yeah, he can't be there for the finish.

1:09:59

I'm just like, especially in tight games like that, I'll go to

1:10:01

the Verizon Wireless Lounge and get ready

1:10:03

for the show, and I'm there going nuts.

1:10:05

You look out the window from the end zone.

1:10:07

Yeah, yeah, So I had a nice, nice little view

1:10:09

of the last drive. But what did you make of Drew Lock's

1:10:11

performance on Monday?

1:10:13

I mean that last drive was phenomenal.

1:10:15

You know, look, the offense took a while

1:10:17

to get click in it. You know, it was a tough start with

1:10:19

a false start the first play of the game. You have

1:10:21

a negative six yard run on the next drive,

1:10:23

so it took the offense a while to get going. But when

1:10:26

they really needed it, you know, they looked great to start at

1:10:28

the third quarter and then they needed a big drive to end it. And

1:10:30

I thought just the composure Drew Locks showed

1:10:32

and made some big time throws there, especially you

1:10:34

know, the big one to DK and then obviously

1:10:37

the game winner to JSN, Whereas,

1:10:39

hey, we got one on one, I'm gonna trust my guy to make

1:10:41

a play, and he did so really cool.

1:10:43

I mean that's all you can ask out.

1:10:45

Of a backup quarterback to come in and you know,

1:10:47

not just play well enough to keep you in the game, but to win

1:10:50

it, right.

1:10:50

Especially at ninety two yard Druve. Yeah, I

1:10:52

mean one time out, which then up even using

1:10:54

that.

1:10:55

I thought that was funny after the game to realize, for

1:10:57

all the consternation of using the timeouts,

1:11:00

they finished the game with one in their pockets. Still, but yeah,

1:11:02

I mean ninety two yards with less than two minutes left.

1:11:05

That's not an easy thing to do at all.

1:11:06

I'm glad you pointed that out. I forgot about

1:11:09

that.

1:11:09

It was way after the game that I even noticed that. I was like, wait a minute,

1:11:12

yeah, I thought, oh, yeah,

1:11:15

well, we're all thinking that, like, you got

1:11:17

one time out the end of a game, you think you're gonna need

1:11:19

him.

1:11:19

What about the relationship between those two guys.

1:11:21

I think some people maybe don't buy it

1:11:24

because it's like, hey, you want to be

1:11:26

on the field, but you can be want to be

1:11:28

on the field and still support the guy ahead

1:11:31

of you. And you know, and I thought when they had

1:11:33

the competition a couple of years ago that

1:11:36

I thought Gino would be a better I

1:11:39

don't think he would be as good of a supporter of

1:11:41

Drew if he was the starter, and or

1:11:44

as it would be the other way around.

1:11:45

But it seems to work both ways.

1:11:47

It seems like no matter what those two guys, they

1:11:50

seem to really care about each other.

1:11:51

It's they've built a really cool relationship of like

1:11:54

you said, it goes back to when they started competing

1:11:57

for that job together. Like I remember that whatever

1:12:00

was August, when before it was decided,

1:12:03

both guys were asked about and they said, you know, I

1:12:05

want to be the starter I won this job, but if I'm not,

1:12:07

I'm going to.

1:12:08

Go support the other guy. And that's going to be what I do.

1:12:10

And I think, you know, we actually talked to Geno Smith about

1:12:12

this today and his press conference, and I think he's

1:12:15

in a unique position to really understand

1:12:17

what Drew's going through because he's a guy like

1:12:20

Drew Locke second round pick, got

1:12:22

a chance to start earlier in his career and then kind

1:12:24

of got stuck in this backup role and had

1:12:27

to fight his way back for a long time. So he knows

1:12:29

a lot of what Drew Locke has experience right now. So I think it's a

1:12:31

little easier for him to, you know, in that game

1:12:33

just really cheer him on and be super

1:12:36

supportive of him without any thought of like, oh,

1:12:38

is this guy coming from my job? Is there going to be Like

1:12:40

I don't think he was thinking at all. He's just Hey, I'm happy

1:12:42

for my teammate and my friend.

1:12:44

And I think the roles are established, right, Yeah.

1:12:47

I mean.

1:12:49

I get like fans are gonna have their opinions.

1:12:51

Like Pete's been very clear all along, like when

1:12:53

Gino is healthy, he's the guy.

1:12:55

I think.

1:12:55

Say, there's the days where it was just

1:12:58

DK and Lockett as the number one, number two to that

1:13:00

third receiver spot was probably like everybody

1:13:02

fighting for it. You have that feeling. But I

1:13:05

think it's a little different with with the qbs

1:13:07

and with the receivers. Now we know who the one two of the three is.

1:13:10

Yeah. So this week, man, the Tennessee you

1:13:12

know, they were really disrespectful last week.

1:13:15

Yeah, they wore their Houston Oilers uniforms

1:13:18

against the Houston Texans.

1:13:19

I did not like that. Yeah, they looked

1:13:21

good, But I'm like, couple.

1:13:23

Someone from a city who had a team relocate.

1:13:25

You know, I imagine if like Oklahoma City

1:13:27

came here, were in songs.

1:13:28

Exactly like people write,

1:13:30

and you know, the pr whoever makes

1:13:32

that decision, they sat down and say, yeah, well that was

1:13:35

not.

1:13:35

Yeah, that's not a coincidence, Like, oh it happened

1:13:37

to work out that way. That's like we are going to wear that in

1:13:39

Houston. Yeah, I don't like it.

1:13:41

Have you watched now, we'll see if what Levis

1:13:43

plays this week? Uh huh.

1:13:45

But I was pleasantly surprised when to watch the film on this

1:13:47

dude. Yeah, obviously he makes some rookie

1:13:49

mistakes. He's a rooky's gonna do that. But physically

1:13:52

he's a lot better than I thought he was gonna be.

1:13:54

Yeah, I mean, big, strong, athletic

1:13:56

dude was just I mean the book coming out him

1:13:58

was just the cannon of an arm and showed sometimes

1:14:00

guys can chuck in a mile, but they can't actually

1:14:03

play quarterback where he's he's shown he's

1:14:05

a pretty darn good player. Yeah, we'll see if he plays

1:14:07

it. Sounds like there's a decent chance its

1:14:09

Tannehill this week, but they seem

1:14:11

to have found a pretty good one.

1:14:12

Yeah, he needs to cut

1:14:15

it with the putting his shoulder

1:14:17

down and stuff like that. He's going to run into Drake

1:14:19

green Lodge some point, yeah, or some

1:14:22

such linebacker. I mean, okay, it was

1:14:25

kind of a novelty there for a while,

1:14:27

but you can't get away.

1:14:28

Whenever you see quarterbacks doing that in the NFL,

1:14:30

You're like, look, you might be a big, strong dude, but some

1:14:33

you're going to run to somebody bigger and stronger pretty

1:14:35

quick in this league.

1:14:36

So he'll learn that lesson.

1:14:38

I'm sure where does that

1:14:40

rank? That catch? I mean, you know

1:14:42

in Seahawk football.

1:14:43

The time you've been covering, I thought

1:14:45

the amazing part was how he caught the back

1:14:48

the football. It was just getting

1:14:50

the legs in was just as as complicated,

1:14:53

I think.

1:14:53

But yeah, I'm trying to think of a thing about that.

1:14:55

He's you know, that ball over the shoulder is hard

1:14:57

to track, as I'm sure Bump can tell us. And it's

1:15:00

rain and he's looking up into the rain, and just

1:15:03

like you said, I mean It wasn't like an easy It fell softly

1:15:05

into his hands like he was full extension,

1:15:07

caught the back half of the ball.

1:15:08

With his fingertips.

1:15:09

That's it's a damn good play, especially

1:15:12

given the circumstance. I mean, you don't catch that ball,

1:15:15

there's a good chance you I mean they saw another down, but there's

1:15:17

a good chance you lose that game and your playoff hopes

1:15:19

are almost over.

1:15:19

The two guys we had in here probably had to

1:15:22

have the two best catches. Remember against

1:15:24

Arizona, Bobo.

1:15:25

Had the crazy one.

1:15:26

He had the one that was up on the screen there during

1:15:28

the commercial break, and yeah, pretty

1:15:30

amazing you get those those two good because I'm thinking

1:15:33

about like Tyler Lockett when he had the toe tap

1:15:35

right and the.

1:15:38

Yeah, I mean it's that's gonna

1:15:40

be up one of the all timers.

1:15:41

Yeah, especially given the stakes. I mean, if

1:15:43

this team can go on a round, win three in a row and they

1:15:45

make the playoffs, like that catch will go down

1:15:47

and Seahawks lore.

1:15:48

Yeah. Yeah, a big game tonight Rams

1:15:51

versus the Saints. Yeah, I haven't figured out

1:15:53

who to root for in that one.

1:15:55

There's too many scenario I'm

1:15:57

kind of in the mind. I get as fun to look at all snais, but I'm

1:15:59

kind of the minds of like, give me a week EIGHTE and tell me what needs

1:16:01

to happen.

1:16:02

Is Yeah, I there's too much going on right

1:16:04

now.

1:16:04

But the issue is the Bucks are seven

1:16:06

and seven. Saints are seven and seven,

1:16:09

so they could pass the Bucks and win the division,

1:16:11

but you need the Rams to lose one. They hold the tiebreaker.

1:16:13

Thankfully. I have a producer by the name of Nasa Chobe

1:16:15

who feeds me all this stuff, so he makes

1:16:18

it make sense.

1:16:18

But I'm the same way.

1:16:19

I'm just like, all right, let's just win and

1:16:21

and see what happens. But you look at these next three games,

1:16:24

very winnable games. Were playing the backup this week.

1:16:26

You could play a backup with the Steelers with Mason Rudolph,

1:16:29

see what Kenny Piggy looks like, and then the Arizona

1:16:31

Carnals to scare me.

1:16:32

Either way is because.

1:16:34

There's if that game, hopefully

1:16:37

it's for a playoff Berth for the sex. There's

1:16:39

no way that's going to be easy. I can

1:16:41

guarantee you that's going to be stressful.

1:16:44

Yeah, you talk about an unsung hero.

1:16:46

I think you know, I like bringing up Mike

1:16:48

Jack Love that guy Love. I was

1:16:51

pounding the table in the press.

1:16:52

You was just tossing dudes around on Monday.

1:16:55

Man, I just I just loved it. He's so old

1:16:57

school, but big cat. You gotta say it,

1:16:59

man, that guy has not been getting the I

1:17:01

mean, you go back and watch the game. How many plays

1:17:04

he affected and there's lots of times where

1:17:06

he didn't really do anything, but he does

1:17:08

a lot. I mean, he's not getting a stat, but

1:17:11

what an amazing get.

1:17:13

He's been really good, especially the last couple of games.

1:17:15

Is you know a guy like that. We always hear about

1:17:17

the defensive lineman.

1:17:18

There's chemistry involved, there's kind of playing

1:17:20

off each other, learning a new system,

1:17:22

but also is learning.

1:17:23

Okay, Jared Rud's gonna want to do this if I do this.

1:17:26

The last couple of games is he's gotten more couple he's been

1:17:28

really good, like you said, making a bunch of plays. He had

1:17:30

two tackles for loss and the third that was

1:17:33

probably half a yard short of being credited as a tackle

1:17:35

for loss on that final drive.

1:17:36

So yeah, he's been awesome.

1:17:39

All Right, let's do our best.

1:17:41

Stacy Ross and press and she's not gonna be there. So

1:17:43

guys got about a minute left. The

1:17:47

Hawks win this game.

1:17:49

If what I'm gonna say,

1:17:51

repeat what they did last week in terms of big

1:17:53

plays they allowed after that kind of debacle

1:17:56

forty nine ers game, of all the huge plays they only

1:17:58

allowed, I think it was four. I've explosive plays

1:18:01

one of twenty more yards. The whole game is a twenty

1:18:03

yard QB scramble. If you keep

1:18:05

teams from getting those big plays on you, you're

1:18:07

gonna win a lot of football games.

1:18:09

And I'm with Boil on that one. And the the

1:18:12

I think the.

1:18:13

Least like the shortest explosive

1:18:15

play for the Niners the week before was

1:18:17

twenty yards.

1:18:18

Yeah, that four plays a forty or more?

1:18:20

Yeah, So yeah, I mean,

1:18:22

and I think I think that with what

1:18:25

Mike Jack did, we're talking about big

1:18:27

LEO.

1:18:27

I mean, those are the kind of guys that shut

1:18:29

things like that down. No big plays.

1:18:31

San Francisco had ten plays that equals

1:18:34

six three hundred and sixty five yards last

1:18:36

week. The Eagles had their their top ten plays

1:18:39

equal to one hundred and forty four yards. So I'll

1:18:41

take that, and then I say keep causing

1:18:43

turnovers. Jay love keep doing a thing.

1:18:45

Did he have his kid?

1:18:46

Yeah?

1:18:46

Do you know? I don't know.

1:18:47

I did not see him when we were in the locker room earlier,

1:18:49

so that makes me think either he has not yet

1:18:52

or it must have just happened or something. But hopefully

1:18:54

soon so he gets back out here. But yeah, it's big,

1:18:57

big week for him, big week.

1:18:58

For Player of the week. Yeah, baby, there's

1:19:00

a lot of excitement. Perfect.

1:19:01

I hope you get a nice little bonus check too, man

1:19:03

support that baby.

1:19:04

Kids are expensive.

1:19:05

All right, guys, this is the huddle,

1:19:07

Dave Woman, my guy Boyle and Michael

1:19:09

Bump is coming up next.

1:19:10

You got Wyman and Bob. You gotta stay tuned.
