Mike Duncan's first podcast, this is a classic in history podcasting. Many current podcasters credit this one with getting them turned on to what can be done with podcasting, to give you an idea.And yes, it's every bit as good as that implies. Mike Duncan does his research well and presents the unfolding narrative of Rome's rise and decline beautifully. You need to listen to this one.

One of my favorite history podcasts. Mike Duncan is a great storyteller and it was a wonderful journey to listen to 1000 years of Roman history as told by him.

Best comprehensive history of the classical Roman Empire that you will ever find. Great for all levels of learner; extremely approachable and entertaining content. I've listened to the show twice now and would gladly do a third and a fourth. Mike admits to being first and foremost a Republic-era focused historian, but his coverage of the Imperial era, specifically the crisis of the 3rd century into the fall of the Western Empire was honestly my favorite part. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Simply the most iconic and greatest history podcast. It's quite simply a must-listen for any history/ancient rome/podcast fan.

This is a must listen for ancient history fans. It starts out a bit slow (much like Rome itself), but once Mike Duncan finds his voice, this becomes one of the best narrative history podcasts ever. I literally could not "put it down" until it was done, and I felt a bit of mourning when there were no more episodes. Thankfully, Revolutions and his books exist.

I visited Rome because of this podcast. That's how good it is.

This is the podcast that introduced me to history podcasts and the one that made me love the genre. This is widely acknowledged to be the first hugely successful podcast and the first podcast to set a bar of standard to compare against all other history podcasts. The sources and materials are presented and discussed. Plenty of relevant details. A good balance between character/event driven narration of history as well as an analysis of the socio-economic forces at play. All of that in a easy to absorb delivery with the right amount of well placed humour.
