New Mexico's governor is trying
0:02
to abolish the Second Amendment and
0:04
on the other side of the country, Virginia
0:06
Governor Glenn Yunkin has
0:09
granted a quote absolute pardon
0:11
to the Loudoun County dad who was arrested
0:14
at a school board meeting and a listener
0:16
finally says, had enough with screens
0:19
and teens. We're going to talk about the dangers
0:21
of the online world for your teenagers today.
0:24
This is your chance to be informed and get off the
0:26
bench. Welcome to the Heidi St. John podcast.
0:37
Well, before I jump into the headlines today,
0:39
I want to just take a minute and
0:41
talk about the study that I'm teaching
0:44
in the book of Revelation. I've been getting quite
0:46
a few questions about it, which is great.
0:48
And I think the reason that
0:51
people are intrigued about the book of Revelation
0:53
right now is because it's very clear that
0:56
things are are are ramping
0:59
up in the world around us. And we're going to talk a little bit about
1:01
that
1:01
in the headlines today. I mean, I continue
1:04
to watch Joe Biden stumbling around
1:06
literally and figuratively on
1:08
the world stage. It's clear
1:10
that whoever's run in the country, it is
1:12
not Joe Biden and people
1:15
are starting to really
1:16
get nervous about where the
1:18
world is headed. But the Bible is very
1:21
clear that
1:21
God has a plan and that plan
1:24
is going to unfold. So the goal of studying
1:26
Revelation is not to scare you. It's
1:28
to prepare you
1:30
for what's to come. And as a Christian, the end
1:33
of days hold no fear.
1:35
We don't need to live in fear about
1:37
where the world is going. We don't need to live in fear
1:39
about where we're going because as men
1:42
and women who trust in the name
1:44
of the Lord, we know that God's
1:46
going to win this thing in the end. And
1:48
we know this because the Lord says it
1:51
in his word, his return is near. And
1:53
so our hearts should be ablaze
1:55
with hope because the truth is Jesus
1:58
is going to return for his church.
1:59
This is what he says in the Word
2:02
of God and I believe him. But the
2:04
question becomes what does near mean? Like we've
2:06
been hearing this for a long time, the return of the Lord
2:08
is near.
2:09
And in short, it means it could happen any
2:12
day. And this is as true today as it
2:14
has been since the resurrection of Jesus from the
2:16
dead. And as Christians, we are exhorted to
2:19
be ready. And so that's the
2:21
name of the study that I'm going to be doing
2:23
with you for the next couple of months. It's
2:25
called People Get Ready, a study through the book
2:27
of Revelation. I think you guys are going to love
2:30
it. I grew up under the biblical instruction
2:32
of my grandmother who was a Bible
2:35
teacher and she loved
2:37
studying Revelation. In fact, I
2:40
think it was probably one of her favorite things to
2:42
do to study that book. She was always
2:44
talking about it. I grew up listening
2:46
to her read from the book of Revelation
2:48
and listening to her teach it to her Bible study
2:51
group at the little evangelical free church
2:53
where my granddad was a pastor.
2:57
I watched her teach on the topic for years and as
2:59
she grew older, her heart
3:01
never wavered. She was always
3:04
looking forward to the return of the Lord. And
3:07
I know because I know Jesus, I'm
3:09
going to see my grandmother again one
3:11
day and I can't wait. She used to tell me that
3:13
while the book of Revelation could prove controversial
3:16
for some, the Bible teaches
3:18
us that it holds a special blessing
3:21
for those who will study it. So
3:24
remember you guys, we have an adversary to
3:26
kill who wants to kill and steal and
3:28
destroy. When we study the book of
3:30
Revelation, there will be things that good Christians
3:32
and really upright
3:36
and studied theologians can disagree
3:38
about. I'm not studying the book
3:40
of Revelation with you to draw any
3:42
hard and fast lines in the sand with
3:45
regard to my eschatological opinion
3:47
or what I believe we can learn
3:50
from the book of Revelation because we need
3:52
to remember it would be a prize and it
3:54
actually has been for the
3:56
enemy to divide God's
3:59
people. over the Bible itself.
4:01
The book of Revelation gives us no cause to
4:03
be divided, instead it's a cause to rejoice.
4:06
And so I hope you guys will dig into this
4:08
study with me with expectancy,
4:10
with excitement, and I
4:12
can't wait to read together with
4:14
you. Remember the Bible says that
4:16
there is a blessing that is
4:19
in store for those who read the Word
4:21
of God, particularly the book of Revelation.
4:24
Paul spoke to Timothy in 2nd Timothy chapter 2
4:27
verse 15 and said, Be diligent
4:29
to present yourself approved to
4:31
God as a worker who does not
4:33
need to be ashamed, rightly dividing
4:36
the word of truth. So we're going to spend the first
4:39
little bit of time studying Revelation, talking
4:41
about some preconceived ideas that we have
4:43
about the end times, what we hope to
4:45
gain from studying the book of Revelation,
4:48
and how confident we are in our understanding.
4:51
Most of the people that write in to me about
4:54
this topic say they're afraid
4:56
of what's to come, they're afraid even to
4:58
study the book of Revelation. But like I told
5:01
you, I mean, I think we could rename
5:05
the study, The King is Coming. He
5:08
is coming for his own one day. The Bible says
5:10
he will come on the clouds and
5:13
we can look forward to that and the dead in
5:15
Christ will rise first. So if you know the Lord,
5:17
you got nothing to fear because
5:19
the Bible says that you are sealed, safe,
5:22
and secure. And so we're going to study this book.
5:24
I hope you guys will join me. You can sign up right now at
5:27
faiththatspeaks.com or MomStrong
5:29
International. They both go to the same place. We
5:31
got a brand new website that we're getting ready to unveil.
5:34
But for right now, you got to deal with a little bit of an old website,
5:37
a little bit of an older picture of me. Sorry
5:39
about that. All right, let's jump into
5:42
the headlines today because I'm serious, you guys.
5:45
You cannot make this stuff
5:47
up. You just can't make it up. New
5:50
Mexico's Governor Michelle Grisham
5:53
has been shredding the Constitution while
5:56
trying to strip her constituents of
5:58
the ability to carry on. firearms
6:01
and she put this plan into motion
6:04
just a couple of days ago she announced a quote
6:06
public health order that prohibits
6:08
residents in so-called high-primaries
6:11
including New Mexico's biggest
6:13
city Albuquerque from
6:15
possessing firearms outside their home. So
6:17
when she made the announcement she admitted that criminals
6:20
wouldn't follow the law and she acknowledged
6:22
that she's it's probably gonna get overturned in the courts
6:24
but she simply doesn't care.
6:27
Listen or if you're watching this on
6:29
YouTube or Rumble watch as
6:32
this New Mexico governor literally tries
6:34
to shred the Constitution with
6:36
absolute disregard
6:37
for the rule of law.
6:39
The move angered many leaders including
6:42
the police union who say they feel strongly
6:44
that this is a violation of the Second Amendment
6:46
rights of citizens. A city councilor
6:49
worries it will make the city more dangerous. There
6:51
are a lot of questions tonight including if
6:53
the order is even legal and how it will
6:55
be enforced.
6:57
No one right now in New Mexico and particularly
6:59
now but he is safe in a movie theater at
7:02
a park at a school at a grocery
7:04
store
7:05
at an isotope
7:06
game. The governor's public health order
7:08
states gun violence and drug abuse
7:11
statewide has caused a health emergency.
7:13
It then lists orders including stating
7:16
no person other than law enforcement officers
7:18
or licensed security officers shall
7:21
possess a gun openly or concealed in
7:23
public and counties averaging more than 1,000 violent
7:25
crimes per 100,000 people meaning
7:28
this would only apply to Bernalillo County
7:31
which the governor also pointed out has a high number
7:33
of emergency room visits for gun
7:35
injuries and she says she's had enough
7:38
with children being killed.
7:39
But I have to take a tough direct stand
7:42
where basically I'm just ignoring the fact
7:44
that we lost an 11 year
7:45
old. The governor says she knows
7:47
criminals won't listen to this order but she hopes
7:49
the public will and start reporting
7:51
gun crimes. She says it will be enforced
7:54
by state police as a civil offense which
7:56
she acknowledges may be tough to
7:58
carry out the purpose.
7:59
is to try to create a
8:02
cooling off period while we
8:04
figure out how we can better
8:06
address public
8:09
safety and gun violence.
8:10
The controversial move was
8:13
met with anger tonight. So the
8:14
order that she has announced,
8:17
and again this is executive order, executive
8:20
fiat, absolutely goes against
8:22
our constitutional right which says that the right
8:24
of an American citizen to keep and bear arms
8:27
shall not be infringed. The
8:29
governor of New Mexico says that her
8:31
order sends a quote resounding
8:34
message. She's not even pretending
8:36
that she's got any legal standing to do what she's
8:39
doing. What she's trying to do is say
8:41
that the gun violence in America
8:44
has to have somebody do something and
8:47
she's going to be the one to do it. And so even
8:49
though she admits it's not going to help, it's not going
8:51
to keep a criminal from breaking
8:54
the law, it's not going to keep a criminal from carrying
8:56
firearms, she's trying to get the
8:58
people of New Mexico absolutely the mercy
9:01
basically of any criminal that
9:03
would have his way. And so it's
9:07
very, I mean these are really sad times. Interestingly
9:09
enough, according to the Daily Wire,
9:12
Grisham doesn't display any curiosity
9:15
about the assailant in the shooting
9:17
that triggered this unconstitutional
9:20
response from the governor of New Mexico.
9:22
At the moment, Grisham issued
9:24
the order ending the Second Amendment in New Mexico.
9:27
She did it because an 11-year-old was killed, authorities
9:29
didn't even know the identity of the suspect, they
9:32
didn't know a single thing about him. That's a
9:34
little more than strange. If you think about it, you have
9:36
to wonder what kind of person
9:38
shoots a moving vehicle 17 times
9:40
due to
9:42
quote road rage. Are we talking about someone with a criminal
9:44
history perhaps? Maybe somebody
9:46
out on probation? Could it be we're
9:48
not even talking about an American citizen
9:51
at all? None of these questions have been asked.
9:53
They don't matter to the governor of New
9:55
Mexico who is a tyrant and
9:57
anti-American from sun up to sun. sundown.
10:00
And listen, I got to think, as
10:03
we continue to see what's
10:05
happening in our nation right now, we are
10:07
not being, the people in the United
10:09
States of America, by and large, don't want this
10:11
garbage. We don't want this garbage. We're
10:14
not voting for this stuff. The people who
10:16
are in office, our political betters
10:18
and the political elites in this country are doing
10:21
things that they know the American people do
10:23
not want. Do you think for one
10:25
second the majority of Americans
10:28
like what's happening at
10:29
our southern border?
10:30
Hundreds of thousands of illegals
10:33
crossing our southern border every single day
10:35
while Joe Biden sits on his hands and
10:37
fumbles around to find a decent
10:40
word to say on 9-11. Nope,
10:43
they don't.
10:45
Have you ever thought about starting your own podcast?
10:48
I chose Spotify for Podcasters, and here's
10:50

11:07
talking. With Spotify for Podcasters,
11:09
you can earn money in a variety of ways
11:11

11:17
And we know that the Democrats don't
11:20
care about what the people want because it's no longer
11:22
about what the people want. It's about an agenda that's
11:24
being pushed in this country. And we have
11:26
got to be aware of what's happening,
11:28
be in prayer for our country. This is not
11:30
to get you guys all, you know, riled
11:33
up and angry, because again, there are things
11:35
that we have no control over, right?
11:37
This is it goes back to jurisdiction.
11:40
You've heard me talk about this quite a bit at the show. But
11:42
at the same time, we need to be cognizant
11:44
of who's running for office, we need to be absolutely
11:47
committed to voting and getting
11:50
out the vote wherever we live. Because
11:52
I'm telling you what, these are nation
11:54
ending dictates that
11:57
people like the governor of New Mexico,
11:59
Governor, Grisham are putting
12:02
into practice, or at least she's trying. The
12:05
sheriff there, the highest police
12:08
officer in New Mexico has obviously
12:11
come out and said he won't enforce this
12:13
unconstitutional edict, but
12:15
this is a pivotal moment in the country. If
12:18
Grisham's order was a trial balloon,
12:21
the response from the right has been woefully
12:23
insufficient. Listen to what the Daily Wire said,
12:26
tyrants have always used emergencies, whether
12:28
real or imaginary, to justify their paragraphs.
12:31
A couple of weeks ago, you heard me talk about the crystal
12:33
knocked event that gave
12:35
Hitler the rise to power that
12:37
he was looking for. They looked for an emergency,
12:40
they took advantage of it. This is why they want
12:42
the COVID lockdowns to come back. This is why
12:44
the masks were such a big deal. This is why
12:46
the forced inoculation of people against
12:49
their will was such a big deal. I
12:51
believe that it is the testing of the will of the
12:53
American people. Are we going to put up
12:55
with these kind of tyrannical dictates or
12:58
not? We know that these are power grabs.
13:00
COVID in the United States was a pivotal
13:02
moment when most of the country, for
13:05
a virus with a 99.9% survival
13:08
rate, just laid down and allowed
13:10
the government to spend essentially all
13:12
of our rights in order to protect us
13:14
from a cold. And
13:17
that's the truth. Career bureaucrats like
13:19
the governor of New Mexico, Michelle Grisham, took
13:21
note of that. And now she is
13:23
trying to expand her authority under
13:25
the guise of a so-called emergency,
13:28
taking it to the next level. And unfortunately,
13:30
from the Republicans, she's only getting minimal
13:32
pushback. It's not hard to imagine where
13:34
this could go next. As
13:37
I pointed out before, Grisham
13:39
herself has outlined a plan from here.
13:42
The Daily Wire goes on to say that we can expect
13:44
a, quote, climate change emergency to justify
13:47
banning cars, a transphobia
13:49
emergency to shut down non-affirming
13:51
speech, a racism emergency
13:53
to ram through federal reparations plans,
13:56
a poverty emergency
13:57
to redistribute wealth.
14:00
The possibilities are endless and the endless
14:02
public health autocrats like
14:05
Michelle Grisham experience real consequences
14:07
for what they're doing, these nation-ending
14:10
possibilities will become a reality.
14:13
So the Daily Wire is saying what many
14:15
other conservatives and people on the right
14:17
who have been watching the country,
14:20
I told you guys the other day, we are losing
14:22
our freedom in this country one paper
14:24
cut at a time. And this wasn't a paper cut.
14:27
This was an actual stab to the heart of our
14:29
freedom. The right to defend ourselves, the
14:31
right to carry a weapon in this country is
14:33
under assault by the left. And don't think for one minute
14:35
that if Joe Biden got the opportunity to take
14:37
your guns away, he wouldn't take it. He absolutely
14:40
would. Meanwhile, some good
14:42
news out of the state of Virginia,
14:46
of course, the Democrats hate this. They're
14:48
screaming and yelling and throwing their fists up in
14:50
the air. But Governor Glenn Youngkin
14:52
on Sunday granted what he called an absolute
14:55
pardon to the father who was arrested
14:58
at a school board meeting after the superintendent
15:00
lied about his daughter's rape
15:03
by a skirt-wearing boy.
15:06
Now this goes back to the transgender argument.
15:08
It goes back to parents saying, I do not want
15:10
men in my daughter's locker
15:13
room. And of course, the woke left
15:15
and all of the sexual activists and the
15:17
CSE promoters in this country
15:20
screaming and yelling about how this is transphobic
15:22
and homophobic. And I can't believe what a fascist
15:24
you are because you don't want a boy in
15:26
the girls locker room. Well, Scott Smith
15:29
exercised his constitutional right to
15:31
attend a public meeting of the Loudoun County School
15:33
Board to observe the proceedings.
15:36
This happened back in June of 2021, during
15:38
which time a community member threatened to spread
15:42
malicious and false information about his business
15:45
with the intent to damage his reputation.
15:47
During an ensuing verbal confrontation, Scott
15:50
Smith was charged with obstruction of justice
15:54
and disorderly conduct. And he was
15:56
quickly convicted, even though an appeals
15:58
court later disqualified the prosecution.
16:00
due to quote concerns about the
16:02
integrity of the prosecution.
16:05
So the governor
16:08
of Virginia, Governor Yunkin, of
16:11
course you know, Winston Sears,
16:13
the lieutenant governor in Virginia, they got
16:15
some pretty cool things going on there. He
16:18
issued him a pardon and Scott
16:20
Smith was quoted as saying, I'm thankful that the Yunkin
16:22
administration gave me an off-ramp to these
16:24
charges. They never should have happened. It's
16:27
kind of bittersweet because I really look forward
16:29
to winning this in court, but unfortunately our
16:32
justice system is so screwed
16:34
up right now that I didn't feel I could
16:36
potentially get a fair shot.
16:38
And you guys that again, this
16:41
should scare Americans. Watch what the
16:43
Biden administration is doing, this weaponization
16:46
of our justice system against their political
16:48
opponents, the most obvious one being
16:50
President Trump. Why do they hate him so much? They
16:53
hate him for what he says. They can't control
16:55
what he says. Sometimes wish someone
16:57
could control what he says. The point
16:59
is the Democrats in this country
17:02
do not represent the Democrat
17:04
Party of the 50s, the 60s, the 70s
17:06
or even the 80s. These people are completely
17:09
out of control. They want to take away your
17:11
right to bear arms. They want to take your freedom
17:14
to protect you from a virus with a 99.9% survival rate. They
17:17
want to keep you from speaking at school board meetings
17:20
because heaven forbid someone should hear
17:22
the truth about biology. We've got major
17:24
issues in this country and we
17:27
need to be in prayer about what's going on. But
17:29
I was really encouraged by
17:32
Governor Yunkin stepping up and saying,
17:35
no dude, this isn't how it works. That
17:37
actually made me feel pretty good about something
17:40
in the news today. I'm going to
17:42
end today with a question from a listener,
17:44
an anonymous listener in Arizona. It's
17:46
asking about teens and screens. She
17:49
said, Heidi, I've noticed that since
17:51
the parents in our Christian homeschool group, including
17:53
myself, put phones in our
17:56
teens hands and let them socialize with each
17:58
other online, things have gone down. downhill
18:00
in their attitudes and behavior,
18:03
swearing, etc. I almost feel like
18:05
if you put the internet in the hands of your kids,
18:07
you might as well just send them to public school. It's
18:09
that bad. Do you have any
18:11
thoughts on the invasion of technology and
18:13
its negative effects and why the apathy
18:16
of so many Christians, even in
18:18
homeschooling toward this issue? Well,
18:21
you're absolutely right and this goes not
18:23
so much to the internet. It
18:25
goes to parental authority
18:27
in the home and whether or not the parents of
18:30
the chutzpah have
18:33
the respect of their children and
18:36
they've got the guts to say, hey,
18:38
here's a phone because you recognize how many of these kids need
18:40
food. What they don't need is access to the
18:43
internet. They don't need a social media.
18:45
What they don't need is TikTok. What they don't
18:47
need is the parents to give them a phone
18:50
and then just disengage and go, hey,
18:52
see you later. Glad that I can reach
18:54
you now so I know when to pick you up from
18:56
soccer practice. And yes, I mean,
18:59
this happens in the homeschool movement. It happens
19:01
in Christian circles just like it does in public
19:03
school and secular circles. The answer
19:06
I don't believe is just to take
19:08
away phones from your children. I think that the answer
19:11
is to have a relationship with your child and
19:13
consequences if they do not
19:15
abide by the rules that you put
19:18
in place when you give them a phone.
19:20
And so with our kids and honestly, I
19:22
mean, I'll tell you the truth. We
19:25
made some mistakes when our kids were very, were
19:28
much younger when
19:30
we didn't understand social media
19:32
at the time. I remember when we first got, I
19:35
think an upgrade, like the very first
19:37
upgrade and they said, hey, you got this extra phone and
19:39
we thought, oh, we'll give it to our kid, right?
19:42
We'll give it to our 14 year old kid. And
19:44
even though it didn't have cell service, she could
19:46
still access the internet with it. And
19:49
since then we have gotten a lot
19:51
more in tune and much
19:53
more vocal with our children
19:56
when they get a phone. So because
19:58
of the
19:59
way that I travel all
20:01
of our children
21:04
I think let's not blame the internet let's
21:06
not blame the phone let's blame the
21:08
parents for not keeping
21:10
their children's cell phone
21:13
use in check it really is
21:15
your responsibility don't shirk
21:17
the responsibility and give it to anyone else
21:19
the responsibility belongs to the
21:22
parents. Alright you guys that's all I've got time
21:24
for today I'm gonna link back to some
21:27
of these articles that I quoted from in
21:30
the show notes today and I'm gonna encourage
21:32
you watch keep a very close
21:35
eye on the situation that's
21:37
unfolding in New Mexico.
21:40
It's going to be interesting to see the response of the conservatives
21:43
it's going to be very very very interesting to see how
21:46
far this tyrannical governor gets
21:48
with her decision to try and remove
21:51
the Second Amendment from the constitutional
21:53
rights of the people in New
21:55
Mexico and so I'm gonna keep an eye on that
21:57
and I'll keep talking about it and keep
21:59
going. praying for our country you guys.
22:02
Listen,
22:02
the world might be in chaos. I've said it again, I'm gonna
22:05
say it now. The world might be in chaos,
22:07
but God's people don't need to be. All right, we
22:09
know how this thing's gonna wrap up. We know that things
22:11
are gonna get harder before they get better, and that's
22:14
the truth. That's what the Bible teaches us. You
22:16
know, people keep talking about chips
22:19
that are being implanted in people's hands that have your
22:21
information on it, your credit card, your driver's license,
22:24
and wow, what a great, awesome
22:27
convenience it is, to not have to worry about
22:30
taking your ID. Nevermind that the thing's been
22:32
injected into your hand. Maybe
22:35
there are certain circumstances when
22:37
you don't want your ID on you or whatever. The
22:40
Bible talks about a cache to society.
22:42
We're absolutely moving that way. There
22:44
is so much evidence, and
22:47
we don't have time to go into it today, but I mean,
22:49
prophecy after prophecy that has been fulfilled
22:52
from God's Word, so much evidence
22:53
for a creator
22:55
in creation all around us. The
22:57
Bible is the Word of God, the
22:59
infallible, unchanging
23:02
Word of God. It is the anchor that
23:04
we hang onto in times like this. It's
23:06
the lamp to our feet, the light to our path.
23:09
Read God's Word today. Read
23:11
it with your children, read it with your spouse. If
23:13
you haven't read through the book of John, I'm doing it again
23:15
with one of my daughters right now. Read through the
23:18
book of John, and join me at
23:20
Mom Strong International or Faith That Speaks
23:23
for my study in the book of Revelation. People
23:25
get ready. I think you're gonna love it, and I
23:27
think you're gonna leave that study later
23:29
on this fall, feeling excited
23:32
about the Bible and not afraid of
23:34
what the God says is coming in
23:36
the days ahead. We appreciate you guys.
23:39
Thank you so much for listening, and I will see you back here
23:41
again tomorrow
23:42
at the intersection of faith and culture.
23:56
God bless.
