In this episode I explain why doing this self-study during lockdown or in times where we are not able to see our horses is a wonderful idea - and practically speaking if you are not able to ride or train your horse... you are already in the preparatory phase of the practice and so is your horse! We have a lot of theory that you can dive into during this time and the meditations can all be done at home too. The last meditation can be practiced in your garden and in fact I advise in the notes that the final meditation, which is a mindful walking meditation is done first the few times without your horse. I often do this meditation on my own in the field, while my horses amble around the yard in the evenings. Each part of the practice has a journaling exercise and in part 4 we re-do the exercise we did in the preparation section. So this may be a great time to “think” all things horsie and study the philosophy and then when you are able to go back to your horses you can dive into the practical exercises (x3 of them) with all the necessary insight and grounding from the notes and you would have got a great overall understanding of the practice and the philosophy!
