RATING
By far, one of my most favorite audio dramas of all time. The Earth Collective definitely ranks in my top five so far. Simply sublime storytelling which is told via an incredibly well developed character who is just as unknowing as we all are in the beginning. Nothing will stop our hero from finding the truth about his roving society's history and the many unanswered questions that linger about 'The Dark'. The ancestors' rich history slowly, but surely, comes to light through the episodes, never leaving us wanting for too much more than necessary. Questions are answered in such fulfilling ways and bring deep satisfaction constantly throughout. This podcast was so appealing to me that I binged all three seasons in two days and started the 4th on the next. Kudos to the creator and voice actors. I can't wait to hear more about The Earth Collective and its residents!!
Absolutely love The Earth Collective, it has a very compelling story, great character development, excellent pacing, and wonderfully moody but understated sound design and music. It is a real gem in its fifth season that I can’t believe took me so long to find. Sci-Fi novel readers, in particular, should really enjoy this one as I am getting vibes here and there of everything from Hyperion to Mortal Engines to Archive 81.Now, normally I bypass the found recording trope. It’s been overdone and often has real narrative limits with the trying to justify the recorder all the time but The Earth Collective does something very clever with it. It builds economically but very organically into a multi-cast, richly-layered adventure tale in a mysterious world. The narrative is both expansive and intimate.I had been searching for something to hook me after coming off two strong but only 1 season-long audio dramas, Bridgewater and Cascadia, and I couldn’t hook into any other multi-cast shows right away. It's like I wanted something more intimate. I took the now-for-something-completely-different, or so I thought road, via a Spotify recommendation and I'm glad I did. If you are generally not a single-narrator type listener give it some time as the cast and world grow at a good but never rushed pace and the story engages you very quickly, the mystery increasingly more intriguing. I haven’t been this impressed with an audio drama in a while - doing what was done before but taking it to that next level.Production and story-wise I think it is a masterclass for other creators who wonder how to set off a big story from a small entrance letting your narrative window expand steadily but economically over time. The Patreon strategy here is really smart too in seeing how the right premise can lend itself to a solid sidetrack of desirable supporting material. The creator Mike Troup builds a world you want more of! Personally, I think it’s the name that undersells it and doesn't quite convey the imaginative really otherwordly SciFi premise going on here. For me, it was a don’t judge a podcast by its title. There is much more here than the name suggests. It’s one of my new favorites!
Great concept! The story got a little hard to follow around season 3, but that could just be me.
Excellent production, with a storyline and characters that just get more and more interesting!
I've made it 2 seasons in so far and I'm very much enjoying it. Such a unique story! It started out a bit slow but was definitely worth it to keep listening.
An interesting world and premise that I haven't experienced before but the characters aren't the most compelling.
This story is building an enormous world. No matter what new info is relayed, I'm always left wanting more. The voice of the lead, Joseph, is so right for the character. Someone with an intense curiosity and drive to figure out the mystery that presents itself.
This show is so original and so good. I love the voice acting and characterization. I like that we get to see a range of perspectives and voices, and see how perspectives from different classes interact with each other. I did not expect the second season to take the turn it did, but I’m really enjoying it. The production and sound design is solid, too. I’m sad some of the story lines are behind a paywall, but as long as I don’t miss anything important to the main story, I guess I don’t mind.
Great story, looking forward to more, backed on Patreon after first episode
This show has a unique sound design, that I really love. The story is so multi facetted and rich it´s hard to sum up. The writing is so good and the world building is so impressive, that I´ll gladly wait however long it takes for this show to unfold. The longer, the better, in fact!
