A day in the life of Jennifer

Its an early start for them, around 5.30/6am when her baby wakes them all. On days Jen works, they are out of the house by 7 and her husband and Jen take it in turns to drop the kids to childcare. The kids are usually picked up by 4.30pm and home by 4.45pm. Then it’s the usual dinner, play, bath and bed for the kids. They get some downtime to have dinner or Jen attempt to go to the gym. Since Jen has started her new business she has been sacrificing TV time to work on the business or meet with potential clients or business partners. Usually in bed by 10.30pm.

The days Jen is off work are much more relaxed!

Life hacks: Planning and organsising meals each weekend and freezing lots of meals for the kids. That means when they get home from work, they just need to cook some vegetables and the kids meals are done. Jen is also part of a veggie co-op which helps us to stay organized as it forces us to make decisions about meals ahead of time and saves them lots of money.

Rosters - to plan childcare drop offs/pick ups and who gets to stay at work or go in early. This also works for getting them both to exercise though they haven’t achieved that as well recently.

The best advice you received

Recipes

What ever is the fruit and veggie box we adapt them.  Ratatouile is Jen's go to recipe.

How have kids changed your world?

Jen thought that they were busy before they had kids but turns out they had plenty of spare time. Jen definitely doesn’t get to exercise as much as her husband and she doesn’t spend as much time together but she loves her kids so she wouldn’t have it any other way.

What book are you currently reading

Jen has just finished The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen. Since starting her own business she has been reading books focusing on business mindset and success. It has never been something she was interested in but she realized books such as the slight edge can help with her whole life, not just business.

What two areas would you like to improve in your life?

Fitness; Jen used to be so fit, exercising most mornings but she haven’t the time to do so.

Quality time with her husband: They need to bring back date night.

Quick Questions

What website have you signed up to that you actually find value in receiving their emails?

No specific website.  To many emails stresses Jen out.

What’s one piece of advice you would give your pre baby self

Enjoy your free time and ability to travel.

What’s the most useful / useless baby item you have?

Her penny Scanlon bag which is huge, great for when she is going out with 2 kids!

What’s your experience like with day care?

Jen has generally been happy with her kids at daycare. Although they seem to be sick every single day she thinks it has helped her toddler to become more confident. Jen doesn’t have any regrets sending her kids to childcare.

If you have one or more children, was it easier transitioning from 0 to 1 or from 1 to 2 etc

Jen thought 1 kid was hard, she was wrong, the change from 1 to 2 was definitely harder. It's only just now that they are finding it getting easier to manage the 2.
