Larry Apke is a seasoned Agile Coach who has helped leading transformations in companies such as #Salesforce, #Omnicell and #Splunk to name a few.

Like many other #AgileCoaches he starts as a #SoftwareDeveloper early on in his career and gradually finds immense value in running software projects under #Scrum using #peerprogramming, #mobbing, #BDD and #TDD techniques.

He now teaches the best of his own learnings throughout the years to those interested in the business of Agile for free! How? Through his non-profit, #TJH #TheJobHackers, he co-founded with Dave Rawlings in 2017.

In this conversation we chat about how and why he started it, and a bit of deeper dive into some class content which are pretty unique to this Agile course such as #Cognitivebiases and #complexsystems.

Some of my top takeaways:

* #Managers might attribute "luck" with "ability". It isn't necessarily true because like winning in poker, you can make a lot of mistakes and still win. Learning "#leadership" is the trick to long-term win!

* "Leaders" with some technical knowledge perform many times better than "Managers" with a lot of technical knowledge if not trained for leadership skills.

* Why companies tend to promote their top engineers to management positions? Because it's easier!  Leadership is not easily measurable while technical skills are.

* We are humans and we need to actively learn how to maneuver in a "complex" environment which is different from a "complicated" environment.

* What does it mean to be a Knowledge Worker? This is an open debate! Maybe if you can WFH and conduct work through Zoom? Maybe not...

* We have over 180 cognitive biases, "confirmation bias" is one of the top! We see it all the time and it's counter innovation because we can't look for familiar things that only approve our own narrow perspective.
