Antifa, or antifascism, has been around since fascism began. What started as a movement of resistance to Mussolini’s rise to power in the 1920s, and Hitler’s in the 1930s, has become a global political ideology to fight against all kinds of oppression -- homophobia, patriarchy, white supremacy, and capitalism. Antifa grew out of the recognition of the failure of police, government institutions, and the criminal justice system. It is a form of global resistance to white supremacy and imperialism through community self-defense.

In this episode, Eliza and her friend Kuya Andre, a Filipino American political activist who has attended several anti-fascist actions, discuss how modern Antifa came to be in the US, the creeping rise of global fascism, why Antifa gets such a bad rap in the media, and why Andy Ngo's claims were inaccurate at best. Kuya Andre also shares his experience as a medic at the Charlottesville Unite the Right rally in 2017.
