0:42

All right, everybody. Welcome back to talking

0:44

grit. I'm Jason Harwood. And with

0:46

me as usual is Jacob Litton. Today,

0:49

we're talking extensions. We're going to talk

0:51

about the three players that signed extensions

0:53

with lines this off season. Jared

0:55

Goff, Amin Ra, Sam Brown,

0:57

and Panay Sewell. Jacob and

0:59

I haven't had a chance to talk with you, the listeners

1:02

about these contracts. So we're excited to

1:04

get going today. I think we're going

1:06

to start out with Jared Goff. Jacob,

1:09

what'd you think about that contract?

1:11

We talked about that kind of briefly before

1:14

you know What dollar amount where

1:16

I would be comfortable with for goth? I

1:18

was hoping closer to 50

1:21

on an average between 45 and 50.

1:24

That's just not the way these things usually work.

1:26

Usually the next man up, gets the highest

1:28

contract. And in this case, he's really

1:30

not, in terms of value,

1:32

number one, overall, I mean, Burroughs

1:35

got the higher average salary. You've

1:37

got a couple of quarterbacks on the list that actually have,

1:39

uh, you know, total value higher than

1:41

his right now. When you hear 53

1:44

million a year, you're like, man, I'm not sure

1:47

if he's worth that much. But

1:50

you know, with the way that he played last year and the confidence

1:52

that Brad Holmes has in him, I'm on board

1:54

with it now. How did you feel about it though?

1:56

I think same thing. I was like anything

1:58

north of 50, and I'm gonna be,

2:01

I'm not gonna say skeptical, but,

2:04

um, I don't know what, honestly,

2:06

I really don't know what the word is, but I was gonna

2:08

be a little bit worried, you

2:11

know, the first year, obviously

2:13

he struggled here, but I don't think that was

2:15

necessarily all his fault, Bare bones

2:17

receiver room, you know, running back.

2:19

That's constantly hurt. They were,

2:22

know, struggling at skill positions at all

2:24

level. Defense wasn't very good. So

2:26

they're playing from behind. That's not necessarily

2:28

Jerry Goss, strong suit there. That

2:31

first year throw it out the window, but, you know,

2:33

since they started winning, Jared

2:35

Goss been everything I want in a quarterback. He's

2:37

a great leader. he's humble

2:40

when he needs to be, he's, animated

2:42

when he needs to be, I think that,

2:44

he doesn't get too high and he doesn't get too

2:46

low. I think that that's perfect for

2:48

that position. 53 million when you look

2:51

at it, I think the average, when you

2:53

look at the average salary, it's

2:55

number two, but there's so many different

2:57

ways to look at contracts. I don't think it's truly

2:59

53 million just based on, you

3:02

know, where his cap hits lie. Cause they

3:04

can restructure that however they want,

3:06

you know, the signing bonus, it is what

3:08

it is. He's got a plenty guaranteed

3:11

money, but also he's 29.

3:14

game is not predicated on the run. He's

3:17

not going to see a sharp decline anywhere.

3:19

It's not like he's just gunning deep balls

3:21

and then, you're going to have a Drew Brees situation

3:23

at some point where he just can't do that anymore.

3:25

With everything he's got and everything that we got

3:28

locked down, I'm happy with it. Um, I

3:30

don't think we're going to see a large fall off with Jerry

3:32

Goff. Where are you at with that?

3:34

In the last two seasons, he's finished top

3:37

three in most of the statistics for yards,

3:39

touchdowns, you know, the important ones that

3:41

you're looking at for quarterbacks. So

3:44

if you're finishing top three, you're going to be getting

3:46

paid top three. That's what's resulted

3:48

in the contract that he's played up to

3:50

at this point. I think he's also had the benefit

3:53

of, the expectations were not very high

3:55

for him. He had the chip on

3:57

his shoulder. He had to play up to that level. And

4:00

now with this contract and with the way the season

4:02

went last year, now he has to maintain that

4:04

level and, if possible, even

4:08

put it up even higher than he did before. And

4:10

that's going to be hard to live up to. like

4:12

you mentioned, the team around him and everything, definitely

4:15

it's a possibility. He's got one

4:17

of the best offensive lines in football. He's

4:19

got some weapons to throw to, and

4:22

you're right, he doesn't, he doesn't make very

4:24

many risks as a quarterback. He's

4:26

not, checking a deep 10 times a game.

4:28

He's playing it safe. He's playing with the scheme.

4:30

He's got the right offensive coordinator, the right coaches

4:33

around him. Right now I'm on board with the contract.

4:35

I think it looks good. Especially with quarterbacks,

4:37

hindsight's everything. You fast

4:39

forward towards the end of the contract. And if he's

4:41

hovering around 15th

4:43

or 20th and yards, and you know,

4:46

we're. On the fringe of the playoffs

4:48

or missing the playoffs, then, you know, of

4:50

course it's gonna go back to this contract

4:52

and look like this is the problem. But as of right

4:54

now, at this point in time, I think it's good

4:56

and I'm on board with it.

4:58

I've heard many arguments, different ways, Jared

5:00

Goff needs a perfect, team

5:02

around him for him to succeed. And

5:05

I don't necessarily buy that. I mean,

5:07

any quarterbacks can be better with people around

5:09

them. Outside of, your Patrick Mahomes,

5:11

even, even Joe Burrows got T

5:13

Higgins, Jamar chase, Joe Mixon,

5:16

he had a pretty strong team, but you know what?

5:18

He kept getting injured because he didn't have the offensive line.

5:21

JerGoff definitely has the offensive line.

5:23

He's gonna be solid there.

5:26

The offensive coordinator is back at least

5:28

for this year. So I'm pretty happy with all that.

5:30

I'm happy overall with the contract, it

5:32

could change on a dime for sure.

5:35

I also don't think Jared golf's been playing

5:37

out of his mind the last year and

5:40

a half where it's like above his ceiling,

5:42

even if he comes back and he has the same

5:45

ceiling, I mean, he's, like you said, he's been

5:47

top three, top five and,

5:49

a lot of categories that we

5:51

judge a lot of quarterbacks on. It's not Jared

5:53

Goff's fault that, Brad Holmes is very

5:56

good at drafting and, maintaining

5:58

talent on the team and elevating talent.

6:00

I think it's going to end up working in lion's favor

6:02

for getting this contract done now, because,

6:04

you know, you're going to have some guys resign here in a little

6:07

bit, and if we'd have let. Because

6:09

the one option for golf would have been let

6:11

him play out his contract. They don't

6:13

come with the deal. Then they franchise them.

6:15

Then you got them for at least two years at that point,

6:18

maybe not the best way to motivate

6:21

your player by not, you know, resigning

6:23

them.

6:24

Giving him the Kirk Cousins treatment.

6:27

In a video game that works well because,

6:30

you know, you don't have to real worry about the real person,

6:32

but,

6:33

Can you play video games with your arthritis problems?

6:36

oh, no, it's just, I can't see the screen,

6:38

you know,

6:40

you got bad thumbs.

6:41

When I grew up, Jacob, we had two buttons.

6:44

We had A and B on the Nintendo controller. Now

6:46

they got L1, L2, you

6:48

know, depending on what you're playing. I play PlayStation,

6:51

so it'd be X, 0. I just, I

6:54

can't,

6:54

Zero. It's a circle, Jason.

6:57

that's right.

6:58

Shapes. Do you get it?

6:59

Yeah, I Do get it? and

7:03

I have no comeback.

7:05

Okay, carrying on go,

7:06

What do you think about like, Hey, say they let

7:08

him play out this year and then they did the franchise

7:11

thing.

7:11

I thought about that too. If you look at the other quarterbacks

7:14

that are coming up, for contracts,

7:16

the big one that you're looking at is Dak Prescott

7:19

and he's been on record saying that he's not necessarily

7:21

chasing after money. Yeah,

7:24

of course he's going to say that, but you

7:26

know, outside of maybe Trevor Lawrence

7:28

or Tua, I don't see another quarterback

7:30

coming up that really is going to surpass how much

7:32

we just gave him.

7:34

when does Jordan love come up?

7:36

They've got talks about that right now, potentially

7:38

this year, next year. Do you think Jordan Love's

7:40

done enough to be paid more than Jared Goff?

7:42

no, but it's the next man up

7:44

thing. Personally. I think Jordan Love can be

7:46

a very good quarterback and it'd be interesting, you know, you

7:48

always have to debate, like, let's switch teams and

7:50

see who does better. Jordan Love does

7:52

offer the, ability to run, which would be nice.

7:55

That's something that Jared Goff obviously doesn't have.

7:58

I don't know how Jordan Love would deal with

8:00

it going on fourth down constantly where

8:02

Jared Goff knows right where to go with the ball.

8:04

He's won, many games, when

8:06

Dan Campbell decides to go forward on fourth down

8:09

late in a game and he's succeeded.

8:12

Also Jerkoff has won the Lions

8:14

two playoff games. It's more

8:16

than Stafford did for sure, more

8:18

than any Lions quarterback has ever done. Maybe

8:21

for that alone, he deserved to be paid.

8:22

Right. Good point.

8:24

Uh, what did you compliment me? on.

8:27

I did. I did save that.

8:29

into my headphones. I was like, what?

8:33

Probably won't happen very often

8:34

just made my night. That might be the first time you

8:36

complimented me. So

8:38

Usually a freezing cold takes, but that

8:40

was okay. That was on point

8:41

a shawl. So don't worry about it.

8:44

What's a shawl?

8:45

don't know what a shawl is.

8:47

I'll google it later

8:48

it later That's good. You probably see a grandma,

8:50

but I can rock one too. Anything

8:52

else you want to add on Jared Goff?

8:54

No, I mean I'm

8:57

okay with it right now time will tell but

8:59

you know Like I said not super

9:01

stoked about seeing the dollar sign But now

9:04

that I have time to look everything over I'm

9:06

okay with it. I think he's on par for where he's been

9:08

playing it

9:09

he was gonna get paid regardless. It's next

9:12

man up. He's on, he's quarterback of a team

9:14

that went to the NFC championship game. He

9:16

had good numbers. I mean, not

9:18

going to get those guys for cheap and what's the alternative?

9:21

Do we want to go down that road as Alliance team

9:23

that just made the playoffs? Are we going to say,

9:26

Oh, let's roll with Hennon hooker? As some

9:28

people have suggested, you know, guy

9:30

that, know, just drafted last

9:32

year was out for an injury. are

9:34

you really thinking that's the guy, Jared

9:36

golf has proven he can get us there. And

9:39

it Jared's golf's fault that we,

9:41

dropped an interception that Jameer,

9:44

Gibbs fumbled the ball or, uh,

9:46

Josh Reynolds dropped a couple key

9:48

passes in that game,

9:49

Crucial crucial catches. Yes

9:52

none of that you could pin on Jared golf.

9:54

So by all accounts, Jared golf would

9:56

taken us to the super bowl. And by that

9:58

way, that super bowl went, I liked our chances.

10:00

So.

10:02

Yes.

10:03

Would I rather have Patrick Mahomes on

10:05

my team? You think about the other top

10:07

quarterback, um, Josh Allen,

10:10

you know, he makes so many mistakes and

10:12

I'm not saying Jared Goff's perfect, but

10:14

you know, I've seen Jared Goff throw away a lot

10:16

of perfects. Passes not try to

10:18

push it. He had that little streak in the middle

10:20

of the season where it just seems like, you know, the, the

10:23

fumbles in the Packers game, he

10:25

had some interceptions on the

10:27

bears game that was just. It

10:29

was kind of uncharacteristic, so I don't know,

10:32

Most of those kind of seemed like the ball was just

10:34

coming out flat too. It wasn't necessarily

10:36

that he was making the wrong read or the wrong decision.

10:39

It wasn't great, but most of them just seemed like

10:41

the throw was kind of off, just didn't do with it

10:43

what he was trying to do

10:44

I don't know what was going on in those, that

10:46

particular game, if it was anything you could pinpoint,

10:48

or it's just, the game of football just happened,

10:51

and that there was a little streak there, a

10:53

reason why there's Jared Goff

10:55

chants all throughout Michigan,

10:58

The Jared Goff chant. What do

11:00

you think that actually means? Do you think that's

11:03

for Jared Goff? We're hearing it

11:05

at a lot of different venues other than Ford

11:07

Field, especially around that playoff time,

11:09

All Detroit sports. Even now

11:11

you bust out the Jared Goff chant, the Tigers

11:13

game sometimes.

11:14

I'm just curious what you think that that chant

11:17

represents

11:18

I mean, I think it is support for golf,

11:20

but I think it's support for the lions as well.

11:22

I think it's more of a lion's chant without

11:24

chanting lions. You're chanting for Jared Goff.

11:27

And to be honest with you, it just sounds good.

11:30

In a loud stadium, there's nothing like chanting Jared

11:32

Goff.

11:33

Yeah. He's got the right, he is got the one syllable

11:35

last name.

11:36

Couple syllables, that's the perfect amount,

11:38

man.

11:38

Matthew Stafford does not, you

11:41

That's too many syllables.

11:42

is.

11:43

Three's the cutoff and he's at four, that's, you

11:45

can't do that.

11:46

Yeah. You gotta change your name. Sorry.

11:48

There's just something about Jared Goff.

11:51

I was at that playoff game when that first, I mean, that happened

11:53

like an hour before kickoff, when he came out

11:55

of the tunnel, I mean, It

11:57

was coming before he came out of the tunnel, you could see

11:59

him, and like, the crowd just started going,

12:02

and it was really loud in there.

12:04

At that point, it was, for Jared Goff,

12:07

it was like, Detroit was just like, we

12:09

were all appreciative that we were

12:11

at that point, we're at a home playoff

12:13

game, we've done it. Jared Goff

12:16

is the quarterback, so he got

12:18

us there, he did something that Stafford can't do. Never

12:20

could get us a home playoff game. It

12:23

happened. The fact that Rams

12:25

discarded him. I think Detroit

12:27

is like, you know, they're this blue collar

12:29

town. And they're just like, this guy

12:32

is one of us. He was discarded. He

12:34

was counted out. And he

12:36

had the mental Tenacity

12:39

to to do it and he fought back

12:42

and it was just all that coupled I

12:44

think you're right. It sounded good, but it also

12:46

just meant We're chanting for the Lions,

12:49

but You know, Jared golf is the guy

12:51

that got there and it's just a matter of appreciation.

12:54

It's a far cry from when we traded

12:56

Matthew Stafford. No one thought that Jared golf

12:58

would get us there. He was going to there for two years

13:01

until we used one of those first round picks to draft

13:03

a quarterback. I don't think that

13:05

was ever Brad Holmes intentions. I think they

13:07

thought Jared golf was going to be the guy.

13:09

He has been. Now he's the centerpiece.

13:11

Brand new contract and I mean, without

13:13

him playing like he has been, then all this,

13:16

everything else means nothing.

13:17

Let's move on to Amun Ra. you

13:20

want me to start with Amun Ra, or do you want to go?

13:22

No, I started before you can start

13:25

I couldn't wait for this extension to happen, just

13:27

because, it's Amun Ra St. Brown, just,

13:30

he is the quintessential

13:32

lion right now. Just a hard worker,

13:35

fourth rounder counted out, by a lot of

13:37

teams and he just put in the work

13:39

and he's rise to be one of the top

13:41

wide receivers in the game and he's

13:43

getting paid like it right now, I don't know how you

13:46

don't make a pro ball, but make an all pro team

13:48

that kind of like You know, tells me the Pro

13:50

Bowl is,

13:53

whack.

13:53

indicator of what

13:56

players think of you, necessarily, but

13:58

I love having him on our team.

14:00

He is, you know, everything you want

14:02

in a wide receiver. Um, no

14:05

diva. He's just hard

14:07

work, man. I love it. What'd you think?

14:08

Oh, absolutely. A hundred percent on board

14:10

with that. The right amount, everything

14:12

about the contract, you know, he,

14:15

he just earned it. It was awesome

14:17

to see him get paid. Like you said, just

14:19

very unproblematic, all about the team,

14:21

all about working as hard as possible,

14:24

every single snap, just everything

14:27

you want a lion to be, that's what a Monrath

14:29

does. I would have been

14:31

very disappointed if we, uh, did not get

14:33

that deal done.

14:34

Brad Holmes deserves some credit about,

14:36

catching him before all

14:38

the other big receivers, get their contract,

14:41

Right. Yeah, they're talking about, uh,

14:43

Iook right now is demanding, like, he's

14:45

not signing unless he gets more than a Monrath.

14:48

I'm not saying that Amin Ra demanded to be number

14:50

one, cause I don't think that's him, he

14:52

deserved to be paid up there, especially if they're going to

14:54

redo the contract, you know, are

14:56

some elite wide receivers

14:59

and they're all different styles, he can

15:01

go over the middle. He's got tons of run after

15:03

the catch. Um, he, he

15:05

started to show a little, the deep game. And I

15:07

think, he has elite

15:09

route running skills, which,

15:12

if you're consistently burning people over the

15:14

middle, he just seems he's

15:16

right for a double move, you

15:18

know, I'm going to go over the middle and then just. Busted

15:20

deep. Um, I, what game,

15:23

I think it was the Broncos game where he had that really

15:25

long run and I know he had a long

15:27

catch and he had one in the Vikings too

15:29

what he front flipped into the endzone was the Broncos

15:31

game.

15:32

that was awesome. That was like great. I

15:34

was in that end zone watching the game, you know, in

15:36

the stadium and that was, was unbelievable

15:39

just

15:39

Oh, I'm Jason. I have season tickets, I

15:41

mention it every episode.

15:43

I don't me I have not mentioned season tickets,

15:45

but you just did, so, yes, I have season

15:47

tickets, and, it's one of the best investments I've

15:49

ever made. There's nothing wrong

15:51

with that Amun Ra deal. The timing was perfect.

15:53

He wasn't even number one

15:55

paid wide receiver for more than, a day and a

15:57

half. Um, and then I'm

16:00

sure by the season starts there's gonna

16:02

be, you know, two, at

16:04

least two people, two wide receivers gonna

16:06

pass him. Probably three or four.

16:08

That just seems to be the position, too. The type of guys

16:10

that are at the position. It's all about, I want

16:13

to be top paid, I want this, I want

16:15

that. I mean, that's why they're leapfrogging

16:17

each other constantly.

16:19

Amun Ra knows what he's worth, but also he just

16:21

doesn't seem like Someone that's going to

16:23

be like, I demand, you know, he's certainly not going to

16:25

Right. No, no, no.

16:27

I don't know if you've seen the video after he signed,

16:29

there was wide receivers and, you

16:31

know, uh, did a little celebration

16:33

out at Allen park after he signed. So

16:36

that was cool to see.

16:38

No, I didn't see it. I'll have to look that up.

16:40

it's, pretty neat. It was just them just waiting

16:42

out there. So it just shows you the team atmosphere.

16:45

Other players are just happy he got paid.

16:47

I just think it's, that's a good example for

16:49

the team. You work hard, you do your, what

16:51

you do, you do what the coaches want.

16:54

You're gonna get paid and, I'm in rod

16:56

took about a half a season in his

16:58

rookie year, you know, once he got it going

17:01

He's lights out, man. He's just breaking all sorts

17:03

of records.

17:04

Very deserving.

17:05

PenneSoul's the next one up. Since I started first

17:08

with Amun Ra, I'm gonna let you go on Penne. Okay.

17:11

Okay, perfect. Top contract

17:13

for the top lineman in football.

17:16

You look at the way that he's grading out consistently,

17:18

always towards the top. Uh,

17:20

fellow players have constantly rated him towards the

17:22

top. Everybody's just got positive things

17:24

to say about him. We knew the big

17:27

contract was coming and I'm 100 percent

17:29

on board with it. He was ranked

17:31

number one on pro football focused top

17:33

25 under 25. He's

17:35

only 23 years old and he's just absolutely

17:38

killing it. Um, just

17:41

another player. It's everything that you want a lion to

17:43

be. And another one

17:45

that's just absolutely deserving of every dollar

17:47

that he got on this contract. He's

17:49

played up to it and, you know, I,

17:52

I think he's only going to get better. And that's

17:54

crazy to say for where he's at right now.

17:58

How did you feel about it?

17:59

I mean, it's hard to say that I like

18:01

this deal better than Amin Ra's just cause I

18:03

like, you know, just

18:06

went and gushed over Amin Ra, but

18:08

I got to say, there's a reason why I like

18:10

this contract more than Amin Ra just,

18:12

and it has to do with Panay being a first rounder.

18:15

So they did his fifth year option and

18:17

then signed with that contract. So like his cap

18:19

hit doesn't really go up until 2026

18:22

at 28 million. The way the lines

18:25

signed that deal, they were able to

18:27

spread that number out. He's getting paid.

18:29

Like a top lineman, but it's not going

18:31

to be, you know, we're going to be able to keep adding

18:33

to that offensive line, um, just

18:36

the way the contract's structured.

18:37

Right?

18:38

I'm really happy that he's going to be on our team.

18:40

He's an elite athlete, you know, he, you

18:43

know, he could have probably played, like I think we had mentioned

18:45

before another podcast, he could have probably paid tight

18:48

end if he wanted. So he. He

18:50

can do everything on that line. Is he a technician?

18:52

Yeah. He's got elite technician skills.

18:54

Is he a mauler? Yeah. He's gonna

18:57

just. know, uh,

18:59

did you hear Bosa's name in the NFC championship

19:02

game much? I don't

19:03

No.

19:04

because, uh, that guy right there

19:06

that we're talking about. To lock him

19:08

down you

19:10

know, five years and just know that

19:13

he's going to be on the team. By the time the cap

19:15

numbers rise, the, the salary cap

19:17

itself is going to rise. And I think that

19:19

that's going to look like an even more

19:21

amazing deal than what it looks right

19:23

Right. Right. Agree. A hundred

19:25

percent.

19:27

You know, and at that point, he's still

19:29

going to be young. He's going to be probably getting another

19:32

huge contract and that's going

19:34

to just allow them to, again, to sign them

19:36

early, probably before that this contract

19:38

runs out, spread the cap, you

19:40

know, hit on the signing bonus

19:42

again. Beyond just Penesol being

19:44

an awesome player, just the contract itself

19:47

has got me excited. Because

19:49

I think that it just allows

19:51

them to do everything that they need to do.

19:54

Just keep the offensive line elite, get

19:56

other players paid, we had

19:58

these extensions this year, Aiden's is

20:00

coming next year and it's

20:02

going to be a big one. I mean, he's going to,

20:04

probably going to be one of the higher paid defensive ends.

20:07

Um, if not the highest after next

20:09

year. Um, but, um, thing

20:11

I do like

20:12

Hopefully it looks a lot like this one though.

20:14

and that's a thing that they're going to probably be able to do.

20:16

Right. They're going to use this as the guide.

20:19

They're going to take Hutch's

20:21

fifth year option. They're going to say, you know, they're

20:23

going to pick that up and then give them the

20:26

brink struck as we say.

20:28

And, um, but be able to spread that

20:30

out so that, you could still add to your team

20:32

and you're not having to cut players

20:35

that are solid on your team because you're paying,

20:37

just the top end guys.

20:38

For sure.

20:39

So, yeah, I was

20:41

going to talk about big, strong offensive linemen,

20:43

but I thought, um, I had learned my lesson

20:45

last podcast.

20:47

I warned you last time.

20:48

Mm hmm. He didn't talk to me for like

20:50

two straight days. it was it

20:52

was awkward when we said, are you still there on

20:54

text? That's just the way Jacob is,

20:57

you know, he's, he's a judger. I

20:59

think I kind of just gave away my answer

21:01

on this, but I'm going to ask you which one of

21:03

these three deals looks the best in two years

21:05

when you're looking back on it and you're like, all right,

21:08

I feel the best about this deal.

21:12

deal. Everything about it,

21:14

everything about him as a player, just 100

21:17

percent on board with this contract. When we're talking

21:19

about the Monroe contract, I think that one's

21:21

going to look better just because there's

21:23

probably going to be, you

21:26

know, six, seven names that are making

21:28

more than a Monroe that are going to be less deserving.

21:30

And I think his contract is going to look better

21:32

just when you see those names that are making more

21:35

money than him. His production level

21:38

warrants him to be a top paid receiver.

21:41

Some other players, right now, the big one is

21:43

Brandon. I uke, and I would much rather have a Monroe

21:45

than him. And he's going to be making more money

21:47

or he's not signing. So I think

21:50

when you're looking at that kind of thing, you

21:52

know, if he's six, seven highest

21:55

paid receiver, and he's playing like a top two, top

21:57

three receiver, his contracts, I'm going to look

21:59

good,

21:59

Yeah, I, I guess I

22:02

didn't look at it from that angle because my

22:04

answer was going to be obviously Penesul,

22:06

um, you know, and people are going to pass him or

22:08

whatever, but, yeah,

22:11

You're right about the Amun Ra. You're gonna have so many

22:13

people leapfrog him that,

22:16

yeah, it's gonna look really good in two years when

22:18

he's, you know, 10th or 11th

22:20

on the list, depending on how many people have signed in

22:23

right? He's going to be dropping down and it's just going

22:25

to be crazy to see guys

22:27

in front of him that just don't deserve it. But that's

22:29

just how that goes.

22:30

I guess we haven't talked about this ahead of time. Just

22:32

off the top of your head, right now,

22:34

who would, who would you pay more than

22:37

Amun Ra? And, as, and the wide receiver.

22:39

Wide receiver only, obviously.

22:43

Who would I pay more than Amon Ra just for wide

22:45

receivers?

22:45

in the wide receiver. Yep.

22:48

I'm trying to think of contracts that are coming up. Because

22:50

when you talk about receivers that,

22:52

want you to say, this wide, it doesn't matter

22:54

if their contract's up. Now, I'm just

22:56

well obviously, you've got

22:58

Tyreke, Justin Jefferson, those

23:00

are the two names that really jump out at you, Justin Jefferson

23:03

is gonna break the bank, that's gonna be huge.

23:05

I think C. D. Lamb is probably gonna

23:07

be leapfrogging Amon Ra also.

23:10

Do you think he deserves

23:10

Outside of that, you know, I think he

23:13

deserves to be paid pretty close to the same as Amon

23:15

Ra. What he's been able

23:17

to do, um, you know, that's

23:19

a toss up. If you say between CD and Amon

23:21

Ra, obviously, you know, the

23:24

Lions thing, I want Amon Ra, but they're

23:28

both great receivers. Those are the people

23:30

that I would say would be more deserving. But then

23:32

you're also gonna have people like, uh,

23:34

Brandon Ayuk. You're gonna have, I know,

23:37

T. Higgins was trying to get paid, Jamar Chase.

23:41

There's just so many receivers that are going to be trying

23:43

to leapfrog and try to get to the top of the list.

23:46

And I don't. I don't think that I would pay most

23:48

of them that much. But, if you are the Bengals, you've

23:50

got to give Jamar Chase the money. They're

23:52

not wanting to pay Tee Higgins, but you have, you can't

23:54

lose Jamar Chase. So you gotta pay

23:56

him what he's asking. And

23:59

I think that's the position a lot of these teams find themselves

24:01

in with their star receivers, is they gotta pay him.

24:04

yeah, I think

24:05

What about you?

24:05

the lucky thing about having Amun Ra is, you're

24:08

glad to pay him. You're not like, we're,

24:10

we're stuck, we have to pay him.

24:12

Yeah, it's not a chore, it's not a pain

24:14

to do it. I

24:16

I sign this contract fast enough? Let me ask you,

24:19

would you rather have Jamar Chase or Aminra?

24:23

think Jamar Chase is flashier, but he's not been as

24:25

consistent. And especially if

24:27

you're trying to look at the angle, if Joe Burrow is better

24:29

than Jared Goff, then Jamar Chase should be,

24:32

you know, putting up top numbers

24:34

every single year. I know he's had an injury problem

24:36

too, but I just, yeah.

24:38

Amon Ra definitely above Jamar Chase.

24:40

Well, also I look at it from just a team

24:43

perspective with Jared Goff, Aminra

24:45

is like, runs, can just

24:48

be in Jared Goff's wheelhouse. Jared Goff

24:50

excels at, you know, those intermediate

24:53

routes, you know, 10 to 20 yards, 10

24:55

to 25 yards a pass line scrimmage.

24:57

That's where he excel. And, you

25:00

know, it'd be funny. What if Amin Ra was

25:02

with a quarterback that, you know, the deep ball was their

25:04

game, would Amin Ra be able to, Expertly

25:07

run his routes or is he adjusted

25:09

to what Jared golf brings to the table? Or

25:12

is it just a really good match you don't know,

25:14

cause you can't just play that. It's not mad and you can't

25:16

play that game,

25:17

when you just ask someone to be a deep threat, it's just

25:19

too inconsistent. And if you were asking Monra

25:21

to do that, then you're taking away from his ability

25:23

as a route runner, and what he can do. And

25:26

he's killing people on the inside, as well

25:28

as over the top. But for Jamar Chase, I mean,

25:30

he's played with Burrow for how long, and they still don't

25:32

seem to have the same type of connection. And

25:34

I don't know if that's, you know, Ben

25:37

Johnson and just the scheme and everything that we're doing

25:39

is just everything is clicking at the right time.

25:42

yeah,

25:42

Back to the, uh, the receiver

25:44

thing. I want to know your answer because you asked who

25:46

I, who I thought should be paid as much or more

25:48

than a Monrath. Did I miss anybody or who

25:50

are you thinking for that?

25:52

Justin Jefferson would be number

25:54

one. is probably

25:56

number two. I think you're right about

25:58

C. D. Lamb as, I, that's a toss

26:01

up between me and C. D.

26:03

Lamb. You know, there's

26:06

really not anybody else that I could

26:08

see that, you know, From a wide receiver that,

26:12

you know, and I think some of this is lion's bias.

26:14

Outside of this realm of being a lion's podcast,

26:16

I think other people could make arguments and I don't

26:18

think I'd necessarily argue back with them.

26:21

But for me, those are probably the only two but

26:24

pairing with Jarek Goff, Justin

26:26

Jefferson, I don't know, I

26:29

don't know about Goff. So,

26:32

you know, if you ask me about adding to this team, like

26:34

if I had to trade Amun Ra straight up for a player,

26:36

I mean, Justin Jefferson would be the

26:39

only one that I would say yes, hands down.

26:41

The other ones I'd really have to think about, even Tyreek,

26:43

I'd, just for

26:45

Jared Goff's game. They can scheme

26:47

Tyreek Hill open in the middle,

26:50

he could be dangerous too, especially if they get him some open

26:52

space, but I don't know if Tyreek

26:54

Hill's game, you know, is necessarily,

26:57

that's a strong suit.

26:58

Yeah. Tyreek's all about the deep ball.

27:00

They could also throw it real short to Tyreek

27:02

and he just makes one guy miss and he's gone.

27:04

For sure.

27:05

So Jacob and I are excited

27:07

to introduce a new segment to our podcast.

27:10

We're going to try to make this a regular segment the

27:13

end of our, episodes, we're

27:15

going to call this, The Honolulu Blitz,

27:17

it's going to be a rapid fire question. Some

27:19

of it's lions related. Some of it's not lions

27:21

related, uh, way for you to get to

27:24

know us, you know, and some other topics other

27:26

than just lions questions, I'd like to

27:28

thank a Redditor. Cody.

27:30

He's the one that gave us the name or

27:32

the inspiration for this name. So you,

27:35

Cody. Uh, we really appreciate it and

27:37

we hope you guys enjoy this new segment. alright

27:44

Jacob, let's get ready. Uh, first

27:46

question I have, uh, sweep the Packers

27:49

or beat the 49ers this year, what would you

27:51

rather do?

27:51

I guess, beat the 49ers. We got to get that one back.

27:53

that one back. alright. Yeah, I didn't say

27:55

that we would lose the other two Packers games,

27:57

but yes, we

27:59

Right. Which one do I want more? I guess I got to beat

28:01

the 49ers.

28:01

Alright, do you think the Lions fight

28:04

song, Gridiron Heroes, is good?

28:07

Yes.

28:07

What about your kids?

28:09

They're impartial to it. JJ's a Lions, er,

28:11

Dolphins fan. Milo's all about

28:14

it though.

28:15

Your favorite non Lions player?

28:16

Ooh, that's tough. Of all time, or are we just

28:19

talking right now?

28:19

active. I guess I didn't put that in there, but I'm thinking

28:21

active.

28:24

I'd say CeeDee Lamb.

28:26

Twitter or X? What should it

28:28

be called?

28:29

It's Twitter.

28:31

Your favorite Eminem song.

28:33

Rap God.

28:34

Alright. Sounds good. Alright, man.

28:37

That wraps it up on my

28:38

That's tough. You had to ask the Eminem question.

28:40

For Detroiters, there's a long list of Eminem songs

28:43

we like.

28:43

That's Alright. I wanted to put you on the spot though.

28:46

Right, that was a good one.

28:49

Alright.

28:50

Alright, my questions are all

28:52

trivia kind of based. There's going to be right

28:55

and wrong answers here. So we're going to see how much

28:57

Jason really knows. They're

28:59

quick ones, they're mostly current things. There's a

29:01

couple of them that are older Lions questions.

29:03

You should still know. You were,

29:05

you were watching back then.

29:06

know, you had to get out the history book, right?

29:09

Right, I had to look that up, I had to cross reference.

29:11

I don't know if that's right.

29:13

So you're asking me questions, testing my knowledge,

29:15

but you don't know the answers to it. Okay.

29:17

you shouldn't, you should know this.

29:19

Alright, well, thanks.

29:20

Most of them are newer. All right. Are you ready?

29:22

go.

29:23

Okay. What 2023 draft pick

29:25

scored first last year?

29:27

Oh, Brian Branch.

29:29

Correct. What quarterback started

29:31

for the lions the last time they want to play off game

29:34

prior to last year?

29:35

That was Eric Kramer.

29:37

Wow. Nice. Never heard of him.

29:39

We talked about him on the first podcast. You have

29:41

heard of him. See, you're not even listening to

29:43

I don't listen to you. What

29:45

college did Jamir Gibbs go to before transferring

29:48

to Alabama?

29:48

Georgia Tech.

29:49

Who holds the record for most sacks in a single

29:51

season for the lions?

29:52

Robert Porche?

29:55

How many sacks did he have?

29:56

that I don't know, but

29:57

That's a bonus question. That's

30:00

close. It was 15. What

30:03

lion currently wears number 44?

30:05

Oh, shoot. Uh, Malcolm Rodriguez.

30:08

Rodrigo. Nice.

30:10

5

30:11

Hey, good job.

30:12

And now I want you to tell everybody that

30:14

got them right without, you know, putting the answers

30:16

in, because you're going to claim that I edited the answers

30:19

in,

30:19

I you know what? That's a good point. Cause

30:21

I did put that in Google docs and I

30:23

know that you're a notorious for checking that ahead

30:25

of time.

30:26

see, you're right. I broke in, I knew all

30:28

the answers. And then I, I like had

30:31

some acting skills. Like I had to like

30:33

pause a little bit, a couple of times

30:34

Yeah.

30:35

it.

30:35

Only, only the first one really.

30:37

Yeah, that was some good questions.

30:39

Are you, nah, I got to ask you, are you impressed or

30:41

did I you know, just meet your

30:43

I am impressed. I mean, I thought they were pretty easy.

30:46

No. I would not have known the Robert

30:48

Porche or the Lions quarterback that started.

30:50

I mean, I've seen the name, I've heard him before, but I don't know

30:52

who that is.

30:53

Robert Porche was really good. So I really,

30:56

yeah, I liked Robert Porche. He was, he

30:58

was good. I hope everybody liked

31:00

the Honolulu Blitz. We're gonna

31:02

kind of try to continue that, you

31:05

31:07

a way for you guys to get to know us a little bit better,

31:12

me to make Jacob look stupid sometimes.

31:15

It's a fun game. Um, see

31:17

that, uh, tried to

31:19

make me look stupid, but I aced his

31:21

quiz, so the next time he's gonna be

31:23

coming up with stuff from the 70s and 60s.

31:26

Like, that's even older, behind

31:28

my time. So, I'll

31:30

be looking forward to that. Alright.

31:33

When Jason played football, he had to wear a leather helmet

31:35

with no face mask.

31:36

man, we didn't play with helmets back then, you

31:38

know, we were real mad

31:40

Ha ha.

31:40

the leather helmet. we're like, we're men, we don't need

31:42

this. And, you know, now they gotta

31:44

wear face masks and some people have

31:47

That's why you can't think straight.

31:49

that's why I struggle.

31:50

blows to the head.

31:52

These are, uh, you're giving me PTSD,

31:54

man. Just, you know, thinking about all those

31:56

Ha ha.

31:57

So, man. Is there anything you

31:59

want to add?

32:01

No, I'm good.
