Sarika Bajaj is a textile engineer and graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University. She is using her talents in engineering and robotics to help tackle a really big problem in fashion: post-consumer garment textile recycling.

• United States alone produces over 20 billion pounds of textile waste a year
• Approximately 73% of that textile waste travels to landfills or is incinerated
• China, where most of textile garments are exported, will likely ban imports of fiber grade materials by 2021 [Resource Recycling, 2019]
