It can't be easy to expand a 20-min short story into a four-hour mystery, and kudos to the creators for the care they took in expanding this story - I love so much of what they added - but this is a poorly done mystery and an even poorer attempt at horror/suspense. If you're paying really close attention, you're going to discover the identity of the murderer by the end of the second episode - and if you not paying attention at all, it's gonna be glaringly obvious by the end of episode 3. The whole time, you're hoping his jealous-girlfriend/suspicious-wife will uncover the truth, but no, nobody knows the truth but you and it's painful. I don't know if I've even encountered sound design that was this insistent that you notice it... I don't know who designed this show, but they clearly got a free whooshes/rises sample pack for Black Friday and just ran with it.
It was a solid drama. But I found the internal monologues removed some of the glow of the piece.
The podcast was well done, but the story was predictable. Or maybe I read the story in my younger years and forgot... at any rate, an enjoyable listen. Brec Bassinger was great, I thought she brought the right amount of emotion to the voice acting. The other actors were a bit forced or fake.
-Fictional short crime story, conclusive (but not the most satisfying) ending-8 episodes 30-40 minuets each-Impressive sound design (more than just people siting around taking, lots of action)-one ad break per episode -good voice acting with a clunky script-I haven't read much Stephen King but it certainly has his style Contains: murder (stabbing and dismemberment), descriptions of crime scenes, car crashes, familial abuse, auditory hallucinations, mentions of racism and PTSD
Like every Stephen King movie or adaptation find myself disappointed. Predictable and boring audio thriller. Strange one from I heart radio as they are normally reliably at putting out great podcasts.
