According to the Book of Common Prayer, the mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other through Christ. For something to be restored means that there has been a breach of some sort, or something has been broken. Sin--the seeking of our own will and not the Will of God--has broken our relationship with God. But God has provided a Savior, One who is the Way to restoration. And God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). But to know you need a Savior means you first need to know your need to be saved.
