There are one hundred thirty-one bridges in St. Joseph County. Thirteen percent are in poor condition, 54 percent are fair and 30 percent are rated in good shape. A bridge listed in poor condition does not necessarily mean it is unsafe. But it does mean the bridge needs attention. This year, the state transportation department is set to begin a pilot program to repair, replace or remove some locally owned bridges. There is 1 bridge in St. Joseph County included in the project.
