Eat this! No, eat that! With so much confusion about what foods we should be eating, I wanted to release a 2 part series on nutrition that focus on the basics of nutrition. We're going back to school for a nutrition re-education! In this episode I talk about the macronutrients , protein, fats, and carbs, and also discuss the topic of vegetables and how to prepare them right.

PROTEIN

Animal protein (meat, eggs, dairy, warm water fish) is far more nutrient dense and bioavailable to the human physiology than plant protein. But not all animal protein is the same. Preferably it is best to buy grass fed beef or humanely raised eggs but if you cant no biggie. Mix up the sources of protein, leaning more towards animal protein than plant protein

FATS

PUFAS SINGLE HANDEDLY WRECK THE HUMAN BODY.  ELIMINATE INDUSTRIALIZED PLANT WASTE FROM YOUR HOME AND LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF PROCESSED FOODS YOU EAT. THEY SLOW DOWN YOUR METABOLISM AND WRECK THE THYROID AND YOUR HORMONES ALONG WITH IT. INSTEAD USE SATURATED FAT TO COOK WITH- COCONUT OIL,TALLOW, LARD, BUTTER, GHEE ETC. SATURATED FAT HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE PRO-METABOLISM, PRO-THYROID HEALTH , PRO-IMMUNE SYSTEM

CARBS

You could not tell from looking around these days, as carbs are being painted as the bad guy, but they're actually necessary for optimum human performance. The body and brain both prefer using glucose as energy. Yes the body can run on fat but doing that induces a stress response, which if drawn out long enough will equate to consequences. The best carbs to use for energy are the simple ones- fruit, honey, maple syrup, fruit juices, root vegetables and even white table sugar are all perfectly acceptable to be eaten.   If you are coming from a low/ no carb diet, add carbs back in slowly as suddenly eating high carbs will result in unwanted weight gain. Work your way up from simple ones to more complex ones like potatoes and rice, Processed complex carbs like pasta, grains, donuts and cereals should be heavily limited or even removed

VEGETABLES

Carry with them anti nutrients and must be prepared in a certain way to deactivate them . Peel the skins and cook vegetables to deactivate the nutrients. And oh, stop juicing every day, That green smoothie you make a habit of drinking is doing more damage than good to you
