On The importance of history- Soren Kierkegaard key air key gard- Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards. Or we could say we must look back to go forward. To go forward in nursing we must look back and remember how and why we came to be. If we forget where we came from we may lose sight of where we are going.

According to the American Nurse Association, the modern definition of nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of client’s health and abilities, the prevention of disease and illness, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response to disease and injury. This comprehensive definition was centuries in the making.

When we look back over the centuries of nursing long before Nightingale, we find a world-wide consensus of what nursing is. This podcast on the spirit of nursing past and present is meant to restore our self-worth, relieve the burnout, and inspire nurses to keep the spirit of nursing alive wherever they practice.
