30 years on, the wound hasn’t healed which illustrate the sentimental importance of “closure”. The family was denied it thanks to a number of factors spearheaded by the lack of DA office’s support to persecute the killer. In addition, the Police force is known to stick together, but its response is mind boggling as it refused to reprimand the reckless officer or at least issue a formal apology. Although the family were not seeking jail time but wanted the police and its reckless officer to be accountable, I’m disgusted by the police officer arrogance on the stand refusing to admit fault while announcing that he won’t change his driving behavior. It is no surprise that the family hasn’t forgotten or moved on emotionally. Another interesting note that is seldom mentioned in many settings is how do we remember our deceased ones? Do we create a persons that is entirely angelic despite its human traits? Do we erase certain aspects of its behaviors or actions as we tend to promote a certain agenda or create a lasting memory?
