0:02
>> Speaker B: And smokes for today's segment. Drum roll,
0:05
please. We're having tea with a Mathilde takeover.
0:12
>> Speaker C: Oh, I have this english accent coming over me.
0:15
Let's just have a tea with
0:17
matilda. >> Speaker B: That's right, isn't it? Now, the cigars we'll be
0:21
reviewing today are the Matilda
0:23
Maduro, the Oscuro,
0:26
the quadrata, and
0:29
the Connecticut, uh, the Serena
0:32
Connecticut. Right. >> Speaker D: Is this Serana Serena.
0:36
>> Speaker B: Serena Connecticut. >> Speaker D: Yeah, Serena. >> Speaker B: And there might be a couple at the end that are a little,
0:40
uh, extras there.
0:43
>> Speaker C: Serena's one at what, the big booty down at the clucking
0:46
chuck? Yeah, that's why we're
0:49
saying Serena, not. >> Speaker A: We'll be right back after this break.
1:17
Brought to you almost live from the dude in the
1:20
basement studios. Why? Because that's where the
1:23
good stuff is. It sips, suds and
1:26
smokes with your smokin host, the good old
1:29
boys. Hey, man, got a light? It's time
1:54
for smokes. >> Speaker B: Welcome again to the Smokes episode, folks, of
2:00
sips Hudson smokes. We are the best
2:03
part of this podcast. Everything in life is
2:05
worth discussing. And today we have
2:08
with us good old boy Mike.
2:11
>> Speaker C: See, senor, I'm here.
2:13
>> Speaker B: We have good old boy Benjamin. >> Speaker E: How's your dog Nelson?
2:17
>> Speaker B: Good old boy Nate. >> Speaker D: Howdy, y'all.
2:19
>> Speaker B: And myself. Good old boy barter. What's up, folks?
2:23
Happy, uh, new year. First of all, all of you. I don't know that
2:26
we've seen each. >> Speaker D: Other 2024, but it's
2:28
2024. >> Speaker B: Unless you're in Ethiopia, then it's like 20, I
2:32
don't know, 17. Yeah, they're behind.
2:35
It's weird. Anyway, we're
2:38
the best thing on at 02:00 a.m. Right before home medicine with doctor
2:41
Kevorkian and just after dumpster fires
2:44
with our congress. >> Speaker C: Yeah, that's for sure.
2:47
>> Speaker B: As you know, as well, I hope most of you know, our
2:50
smoke segments are all about cigars or, well, anything
2:53
that you can smoke. For today's segment. Drum
2:55
roll, please. We're having tea with a Matilda takeover.
3:03
>> Speaker C: Oh, I have this english accent coming over me.
3:05
>> Speaker B: Let's. >> Speaker C: Let's have a tea with Matilda.
3:08
>> Speaker B: That's right, isn't it? So strap on and hang in tight.
3:11
>> Speaker C: Whoa, wait a second. This is a
3:14
family friendly cigar show. Strap on and hang
3:17
on tight. >> Speaker B: That's right. Okay. >> Speaker C: Yeah, we're going into stuff.
3:22
>> Speaker B: We're gonna have fun today. But don't worry if you missed any personal
3:25
lube. >> Speaker C: Do I need for this show? That's what I need to know right.
3:28
>> Speaker B: Now, we're gonna go with banana flavored. >> Speaker C: Banana flavor.
3:31
>> Speaker B: That's right. Bananas today. If you miss anything,
3:34
folks, you can download the full episodes from
3:37
anywhere you have podcasts or anywhere you listen
3:39
to us. You can download them, take them on your drive,
3:42
get on that airplane, do it offline, whatever you want to do,
3:45
folks. But before we dive into the shallow end of the pool,
3:48
remember the buddy system? Where's your buddy? You got
3:51
a buddy? Who's got body? Who's got the
3:54
body? Nobody. >> Speaker C: Yeah, I only see somebody standing on the side of the pool with a strap
3:58
on and fresh lube. That's all I see at this point.
4:01
>> Speaker B: And we're swimming.
4:04
>> Speaker C: And the embutzman has been triggered
4:07
again. >> Speaker B: That's right. If you're a cigar newbie, fret not. We got you covered
4:11
on our cigar 101, where all of the cigar speak will
4:14
be decoded. Just search sip suds and
4:17
smokes cigar 101, and that episode should pop right
4:20
up for you on the link band. Yep, that's right.
4:23
So good old boy myself is gonna
4:26
be giving you our new smokes rating. So
4:29
over the smokes rating, we'll be discussing with our sip suds and
4:32
smokes new rating system, plus our signature
4:35
sounds. Here are those ratings. Now,
4:37
one, that sucked before it was lit.
4:44
Two, hey, at least I lit it.
4:50
Three, I would smoke this again.
4:56
Four. All right, how much you want for him?
5:03
I really like magnificent.
5:06
And five. Where are they? I need a
5:09
box. That's right.
5:15
Now, the cigars we'll be reviewing today are the
5:18
Matilda Maduro, the escuro, uh,
5:22
the quadrata, and
5:25
the Connecticut, uh, the serena
5:28
Connecticut. Right. Is that Serana?
5:30
>> Speaker D: Serena. >> Speaker B: Serena Connecticut. Yeah.
5:33
>> Speaker D: Serena. >> Speaker B: And there might be a couple at the end that are a little,
5:36
uh, little, uh, extras there.
5:39
>> Speaker C: Serena's the one that with the big booty down at the cluck and
5:42
chuck. >> Speaker B: Yeah. Is she the one with the fish feet?
5:44
>> Speaker C: That's why we're saying Serena, not. >> Speaker B: We'Re gonna let Nate kick us off with the Maduro. Nate, why don't you tell us
5:52
a little bit about the Maduro? Good luck. Yeah. >> Speaker D: So the Matilda Serenae
5:56
Maduro is a bolder, darker version
5:59
of the original serenae. The Maduro
6:02
features an oily mexican Maduro wrapper,
6:05
a dominican criollo 98 binder
6:08
and a nicaraguan and dominican filler.
6:11
Uh, when lit, the serena Maduro offers a
6:14
deep intensity of flavors while
6:17
providing a well balanced smoking experience.
6:19
The cigars are handmade in dominican republic.
6:22
The binder is dominican republic. The
6:25
fillers, dominican and nicaraguan. And then the
6:28
wrapper leaf is going to be mexican san Andreas.
6:31
>> Speaker B: Hmm. What do you think about that cigar?
6:34
>> Speaker D: I really enjoy it. To me, it's a nice, just
6:36
mellow, rich, chocolatey Maduro.
6:39
>> Speaker B: Yeah. >> Speaker D: Nothing too intense. I love it.
6:41
>> Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I'm a fan as well. I don't think
6:44
they're over oily. I don't think they're over, you
6:47
know, I think it's a nice baseline Maduro
6:50
to go with. You know, even it's. It's a non
6:53
Maduro smokers. Maduro almost. Yeah. >> Speaker D: No, I agree.
6:56
>> Speaker B: Benjamin, what do you think? >> Speaker E: Uh, absolutely. This is one of those full body,
7:00
right? You get all of the flavor profile that you're looking for, but
7:03
not overwhelming on the strength part of
7:06
it. A lot of that, like cafe Mocha. Cool
7:08
chocolatey notes. Uh, these things are
7:12
super, super tasty, Mike.
7:15
>> Speaker C: Little spicy, uh, up front. Um, you know, I caught
7:17
a touch of kind of oil and leather. Uh,
7:20
it actually feels really dense, you
7:23
know, as you're smoking through it.
7:25
Um, and I like to finish off
7:28
this, but I thought the way you started it, I thought was a good way to
7:31
describe it. It was just a good average Maduro.
7:34
You know, I don't think there was anything, you know, amazing
7:37
about it or bad about it. I just thought it was a good middle of the
7:40
road, you know, it's, um, something to throw in
7:43
the bag, you know, with the. >> Speaker B: Yeah, for sure.
7:45
>> Speaker C: You know, for the wedding guests and, you know,
7:48
absolutely. Uh, or whatever. >> Speaker E: Golf gar worthy.
7:51
>> Speaker C: There you go. Sure. >> Speaker B: Yeah. So what are we going to rate?
7:56
Looks like it's a four. It's a good maduro, folks. Check out
8:04
magnificent. It's gonna be fun time, man.
8:07
For sure. So here a little bit. Let's take a little couple minutes, and let's
8:11
talk about matilda. So, uh, Benjamin is gonna
8:14
tell us a little bit about him. Yeah.
8:16
>> Speaker E: Uh, so matilda is a resurrection
8:19
brand. Uh, they're one of the first brands to
8:22
be established in the dominican republic. Uh, originally founded
8:25
in 1876 in santiago de los
8:28
caballeros, uh, but then revived by the
8:31
Sejas family in 2014. Uh, so
8:34
the versions that we're smoking today. >> Speaker B: Um, now, Nate, you were talking to us earlier about
8:39
the Sejas family, right? Yeah. So why don't you
8:42
tell the listeners a little bit about what you were telling us. Yeah.
8:44
>> Speaker D: So the. Essentially the father, um,
8:47
was the master blender for Altidus
8:50
for about 30 to 35
8:53
years. Um, they're the manufacturers who make
8:56
Monte Cristo. They make
8:58
Romeo and Juliet, you know, a lot of Hldis is
9:01
a big umbrella brand, big umbrella, and it's a very
9:04
classic dominican factory. And so
9:07
he was the master blender there for a long time, like
9:10
even before the cigar boom in the nineties. And so,
9:13
uh, he wanted to retire and he retired. And then,
9:16
you know, from as I know it, he got bored and essentially
9:19
decided to start this company with his son Enrique.
9:21
And, uh, Enrique and I got to
9:24
meet, uh, years ago for the first time and sit down and have a
9:26
cigar. And it's cool because he grew
9:29
up in the cigar industry with a dad
9:32
who did it for a living. And I love that perspective. I've met
9:35
a lot of people who've grown up in this industry with
9:38
parents and that it's such an interesting
9:40
perspective because for him, even I remember him just
9:43
talking about how it's like at first it was like he had no interest
9:46
in that. He went to college, he had kind of a different
9:49
plan for his life, never to join the family business.
9:52
And then now his dad stepped down and he's running the
9:55
whole company now for multiple years. And so
9:57
it's cool to see how the family passion
10:00
comes full circle, um, with it.
10:03
>> Speaker B: Yeah, I got to meet him at PCA. He was a really nice
10:06
guy. Really nice guy, for sure. >> Speaker C: That's just a very common, you know, storyline
10:10
that you have with a lot of different, you know,
10:13
brands that, you know, I think a lot of people think
10:16
that the cigar industry is like, you know,
10:18
thousands of people that are involved, you know, with making a lot
10:21
of these brands. It's really not, I mean, the cigar
10:24
industry is really held in a very small number
10:28
of families. I mean, when I think of, you
10:30
know, it's really, it's really more like 100,
10:33
150 people that really, you know, are involved
10:36
in a lot of, you know, across, you know,
10:39
whole generations and different brands. And so
10:42
I, I think the storyline here is a very common
10:45
one. And I like the fact that this is turning
10:48
into passing, um, down.
10:50
>> Speaker B: Yeah. >> Speaker C: You know, that skill set, which is something that you see
10:53
also, you know, quite a bit within this, you know, cigar
10:56
world as well, is that there's this multi
10:59
generational feel. Even if the son wanted to walk away, you
11:01
know, I'm glad that he decided to come back around and at
11:04
least leverage, you know, the skill and experience, you
11:07
know, from his father. Even if he, you know, even if he
11:10
walks away from it at some point in time, time, you know, later
11:13
in life at least he's embodied, you know, that
11:16
skill and experience. So that he can pass it on, you know, to,
11:19
you know, his children or other, you know, family
11:22
well, and I think that's. >> Speaker D: That's the cool thing. Cause it is. I do love meeting the
11:26
people where, like, you grew up with it at. Ah, you
11:29
know, none of us have had that experience. We have parents who
11:32
grew up with all different professions. But cigar rolling is
11:35
probably not that. And so it's weird because, you know.
11:38
>> Speaker C: Part of our family was involved in strap ons and personal lube
11:41
products, but other than that. >> Speaker B: And swimming. Right? And swimming.
11:44
>> Speaker D: Right. But, yeah, so you think about, like, I know barger.
11:46
He, like, if the moment he had the chance to roll a cigar
11:49
at the family factory, he would have done it. But so
11:52
that's. >> Speaker B: Right.
11:56
>> Speaker D: You have that contrast, and then it's like, then you kind
11:59
of, as an adult, as you get mature and
12:02
stuff, and you start to grow into that, it's cool to see
12:05
that contrast. >> Speaker C: I knew somebody had to make the strawberry switcher sweets.
12:09
>> Speaker B: That's right. I'm gonna talk about it. It's a dark
12:12
time in my family's history. Awesome,
12:14
Nate, thanks for sharing. What. What else you got for us, Benjamin, on
12:17
the, say, house family? >> Speaker E: Well, yeah, uh, just to lead off of where, you
12:22
know, Nate left us talking, uh, about,
12:25
uh, Jose, say has. He is a member of the cigar. Cigar
12:28
aficionado hall of Fame class of 2012, which would have been, uh, just
12:33
a year before he retired and then jumped right back in the game in
12:35
2014, both feet, and
12:38
gave the, uh, the rebirth of
12:41
Matilda and originally released, uh, the matilda
12:44
Renaissance, uh, which we are going to
12:47
get into a little bit later here. >> Speaker B: Um, and big shout out to them for sending us these
12:51
cigars and really making this happen. >> Speaker C: Thank you.
12:54
>> Speaker B: Thank you very much. You guys have been great. Their correspondence is
12:57
great. Their whole team that I've dealt with has just
13:00
been amazing the whole time. >> Speaker C: We will return some strawberry lube in
13:05
return as a token of our gratitude.
13:07
>> Speaker B: I wouldn't go that far. >> Speaker C: Uh, uh, one of those prototype strap.
13:12
>> Speaker E: Lines, one of the quotes from
13:15
Jose that they have on their website
13:18
that really does a great job of
13:21
surmising this very.
13:24
>> Speaker B: We'll be right back with that quote. And we're back. Thank you for waiting and hope. Those
13:30
commercials were fun. Uh, Benjamin's gonna finish that
13:33
quote for us, though. What you got? >> Speaker E: Yeah, we just wanted to drive home, uh, that feel of,
13:37
you know, the generational, um, experience and the.
13:42
The homage to, um, not only
13:45
the family, but where the families are from. Right. And
13:48
so on their website, they have a quote, uh, from Jose say,
13:51
has. Making the best cigar in the world is what drives me,
13:54
Matilda, is how I pay homage to my country,
13:57
uh, which is. Which I think is. Is, uh,
14:00
absolutely the. The bow on this present,
14:03
if you will. >> Speaker C: I was gonna say it's the first step towards indictment.
14:08
>> Speaker E: Um, but. >> Speaker B: But it just. >> Speaker E: I think it drives home again, it drives home the
14:13
fact of how. How small, but at
14:16
the same time, like, um,
14:19
prideful, impactful and
14:21
passionate. These, uh, people are about
14:24
something that is. I mean,
14:26
absolutely handmade. This is
14:29
something that comes from the soil that is
14:32
touched hundreds of pairs of hands
14:35
from its inception to curing
14:38
to aging, to being rolled, uh,
14:41
blended and, uh, then aged again.
14:44
Um, and just having that
14:47
level of care and attention to detail and it
14:50
being such a part of your being that after you've
14:52
had almost a 30 year career
14:55
in an industry and literally made it
14:58
to the hall of fame,
15:00
that it's still not enough. You know,
15:03
you still. You still don't want to hang it up and you want to get back out
15:06
there and, uh, make an impact in the
15:09
right way by resurrecting a brand, you know, from
15:12
the 18 hundreds. >> Speaker B: Yeah. That's awesome. So up next, we've got the
15:16
escaro. And continuing to speak more on that is going to be
15:19
Benjamin. >> Speaker E: Yes, sir. >> Speaker B: Tell us about the escuro.
15:21
>> Speaker E: Yeah, so we've got the Matilda skirt here. I was
15:24
released in 2015 by Jose say, us and his family.
15:27
The second release from matilda cigars buses a dark san Andreas
15:29
rapper with a Sumatra sumatra binder
15:32
and fillers from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua in
15:35
Pennsylvania. Uh, be prepared to enjoy a medium
15:38
bodied, flavorful cigar with notes of cocoa,
15:40
espresso cream, and cedar.
15:43
The binder on this is Sumatra filler.
15:45
Dominican, nicaraguan. >> Speaker B: Demonic. >> Speaker E: Sorry,
15:51
I'm having a case of the bargers over here today.
15:54
Dominican, nicaraguan, and the USA. That would be
15:57
the Pennsylvania, uh, wrapped in a mexican san
16:00
Andreas wrapper. >> Speaker B: I love that San Andreas wrapper on that thing.
16:04
>> Speaker E: Amen. >> Speaker B: That is such a good cigar.
16:07
Yeah. Rating what you go. >> Speaker D: Well, I was just gonna get. I was gonna say no, this is
16:12
a tiny, short, little personal story about this cigar. So y'all
16:15
been to PCA? >> Speaker B: Yeah. >> Speaker D: So the first year that they released this cigar
16:19
at PCA, IPCPR, whatever.
16:22
Um, the first day. Now, you guys
16:25
have been to the show. The guys in the room have. And
16:28
you smoke a lot of cigars. >> Speaker B: Yep. >> Speaker D: When they first released that cigar, I was so stoked to smoke it
16:32
that. That was the first cigar I smoked on the first day of the
16:35
show. And I feel like after tasting that
16:38
cigar, uh, I couldn't taste
16:40
anything. But that was the first
16:43
cigar of the trade show I chisel, huh?
16:47
>> Speaker E: Yeah. >> Speaker C: Well, I think if. When you hear some of our, you
16:50
know, tasting notes, you know, about this cigar, I think you'll understand
16:53
why. Because it really is, um, an
16:56
embodiment of both a really good
16:59
scur. Um, you know, with the San Andreas wrapper. I mean,
17:02
it's really brought an awful lot of. The
17:05
thing that I wrote in very, very big letters is mint.
17:08
This was a mint factory through and
17:11
through, all the way from the point it was lit
17:13
until, you know, it finished out. It just stayed. And it
17:16
wasn't like a menthol, you know, kind of, uh, uh, an
17:19
alcohol induced kind of, you know, mint. It was just.
17:22
It literally tasted like somebody had just stuck your head in
17:25
a big bowl of mint and rubbed it, you know, back and
17:28
forth in those oils were. I wasn't. I
17:31
actually had this, you know, this is.
17:33
>> Speaker E: This is mojito all day, every day.
17:36
>> Speaker B: Yeah. >> Speaker E: A nice, beautiful aged rum,
17:40
some fresh mint. A little bit of cake, for sure.
17:43
>> Speaker C: Big flavor bomb. >> Speaker B: Yeah. >> Speaker C: Yeah.
17:45
>> Speaker B: Well, what I love about that, man, I think that it
17:48
blends the Oscar. Oh, and
17:51
with the San Andreas wrapper, it just. Those
17:54
spices blend together to just,
17:56
uh. I absolutely love this cigar. This was
17:59
absolutely. So what's our rating?
18:04
We're gonna go five with that
18:07
first five on the new rating. Congratulations, Oscar. Uh oh.
18:12
>> Speaker D: Get you that box of escaros. >> Speaker B: Come on.
18:14
>> Speaker E: Gotta get them. Um, where's. >> Speaker B: Feel free to send us a box.
18:17
>> Speaker E: Where's a box? I think the other thing that, uh,
18:20
really, Nate and I had a small conversation
18:23
about San Andreas rappers earlier today,
18:26
uh, and we were talking about a little bit of that
18:28
minerality, almost metallic
18:31
kind of taste. And 300%.
18:34
>> Speaker B: Yeah, that. >> Speaker E: That is what runs through this. And that mint
18:37
just evolves that into
18:40
something that is as
18:43
deep and as bold as this cigar
18:46
is. It has this nice, cleansing,
18:49
refreshing finish. >> Speaker B: Yeah. It's not pungent and beats on your
18:52
flavor like. Like, it beats on your palate like
18:55
a typical Oscar. Oh, would. >> Speaker E: Right.
18:57
>> Speaker D: But the thing I. >> Speaker B: One. >> Speaker D: The thing I love is, like, as you guys are describing the cigar, if
19:01
somebody on, um, the interwebs had never
19:04
seen it in person, you know, you might think it's a lot
19:07
lighter of a shading. That it is. And that's the thing, too,
19:10
is I do find that it has a good amount of
19:12
nicotine strength to. To carry forward with that
19:15
refreshing kind of aspect to it too. So it is.
19:18
It's just a night. It's. I don't know. It's not what you
19:21
expect. >> Speaker B: Yeah. Uh, I will definitely be revisiting this cigar
19:24
again. All right.
19:27
Up next, we're gonna have, uh. Let's see. We're gonna
19:31
have. What are we doing?
19:33
>> Speaker E: The quadratic. >> Speaker C: Quadrata. >> Speaker B: Oh, that's me on the quadrata, isn't it? Oh,
19:38
hey. Oh. Got my notes mixed up here,
19:40
folks. Sorry about that. But the, uh, the
19:42
quadrata is the Matilda quadrata.
19:45
What I've got is it's a medium bodied cigar
19:48
blend by the, say, host family in la Romana, dominican
19:53
republic using ecuadorian habana wrapper,
19:56
dominican binder and fillers from Dominican
19:59
Republic in Nicaragua. And this is the third
20:02
line released by the company. And,
20:05
man, that ecuadorian habana rapper
20:09
is great. So good.
20:13
>> Speaker C: Um, I wrote down smokey, um, spice, kind of like almost
20:16
like a chipotle, um, you know, kind
20:19
of that smoke that you would get when you
20:22
typically, you know, would smoke a, uh, uh, jalapeno,
20:25
um, um, wood that would have kind of a subtle
20:28
spice on it. There were, like, hints of meant through this.
20:31
So there was a little bit of a
20:33
cornucopia. There was a lot going on here. >> Speaker B: Um. >> Speaker C: Um, this was, you know, kind of middle of the road for me. I
20:38
didn't think it was, you know, like, amazing, but I didn't think it was
20:41
bad either. I was definitely something. I felt like it was
20:44
just, you know, it was good. It wasn't a good representation
20:47
of the rest of the product line. >> Speaker E: Did you pay for the extra guac at Chipotle?
20:52
>> Speaker B: No, he gets it. And for free.
20:54
>> Speaker C: It's because I bring the strap on and their favorite lube.
20:57
That's the reason why I get all the good stuff in Chipotle.
21:00
>> Speaker B: That's his. >> Speaker C: Don't you know? That is the secret.
21:04
>> Speaker B: That is his. Just the. >> Speaker C: Did you not get the company minimum
21:08
once again? Absolutely. >> Speaker B: For sure. That's right.
21:11
>> Speaker D: I get a really strong, like, nutmeg kind of
21:14
presence on this cigar. >> Speaker B: Really? >> Speaker D: Yeah.
21:16
>> Speaker B: I was kind of in the allspice family on, uh,
21:19
it. It was, it was good.
21:22
>> Speaker E: This one, for me is the. The, like, nice
21:24
toastiness, uh, of like, fresh roasted
21:27
almonds. Like it is. It is very much so.
21:31
Uh, we're not talking Marcona here. These are skin
21:33
on, kind of waxy,
21:36
um, almonds. A lot of that, like, toasty,
21:38
nutty, uh, finish comes all the way through this. I think
21:41
one of the other things that's one of my
21:44
favorite flavor nuances to Matilda
21:47
is they all seem to have, like, this
21:50
really well balanced spice
21:52
undertone, uh, though it's not
21:54
necessarily pungent or, or well
21:57
expressed. You definitely get it on the retro hell. But
22:00
they all have this just, like, real nice,
22:03
almost cleansing
22:06
palate resetting spice that are
22:08
underneath a lot of their blends, which I really, really
22:11
enjoy. >> Speaker B: Yeah, I definitely enjoy the retro on that one, for
22:15
sure. It's definitely very,
22:18
uh, it's, it's very clean
22:21
for a habano, you know, and I think
22:24
the Gary on you, the Gary to
22:27
carry our point, you know, it was very
22:30
crisp and clean, kind of just all
22:32
around good Habano. >> Speaker E: And I've been on the Habano train this year.
22:35
>> Speaker B: Oh, man, I love it. I love
22:38
them. >> Speaker E: Habano.
22:40
>> Speaker B: Yeah. All right, so what's our rating on this, guys?
22:46
So we're gonna go with a four. Magnificent. All right,
22:56
so up next, Mike is gonna go over
22:59
the Serena Connecticut. And that's, uh,
23:04
yeah. What do you think about that? Tell us a little bit.
23:07
>> Speaker C: So the Matilda Serena offers your palate
23:09
a mild to medium smoke with earthy, dark
23:12
cocoa, black pepper, and sweet notes made in the Dominican
23:15
Republic at the Matilda factory. The cigar
23:18
has excellent burn construction and draw. The
23:21
binder is Dominican, filler is Dominican
23:23
Nicaragua. The wrapper is ecuadorian Connecticut
23:26
shade. So, uh, some of my own notes
23:29
around this. I have to say, I am a sucker for
23:32
this, you know, combo. Um, I
23:35
wrote down, like, a fresh can of mixed
23:38
nuts with creamy, uh, cashews dominating
23:41
the flavor. Big, uh, marshmallow puffs
23:43
to fill the mouth with all that sweet, creamy
23:46
mouthful. Um, there's no lube
23:49
involved with this, by the way. Um,
23:52
I got a little barnyard in the last third of the stick. Um,
23:55
kind of horse blanket hay, some tack
23:58
leather. Um, m I really liked it. Uh, uh, this is a
24:01
complete ecuadorian, you know, Connecticut
24:03
wrapper and doctor filler experience. I mean, if somebody
24:06
walked in the shop and said, hey, this is, you know, this is
24:09
what I'm looking for, I would have no problem in saying
24:12
this is one of many. This is probably going to be in the,
24:15
you know, in the top 10% of, you know, that combo
24:18
for sure. So I would absolutely go back to this.
24:21
Great. >> Speaker E: This is, this is breakfast all day
24:26
long. This is, this is that first cup of coffee,
24:29
right? You know, get that latte going. Uh uh,
24:32
this one is a great way to start your day. Uh,
24:34
uh, still with, like, this nice kind of
24:37
fresh hay, kind of crisp finish on the end
24:40
of it. It doesn't necessarily like linger. It's not super
24:43
oily on the palate. Uh, uh. So it's something that you
24:46
can smoke first thing in the day,
24:49
you know, afternoon, but it's not going to cling to you, not really going to
24:52
ruin the rest of your day. Love, um, this
24:55
Connecticut also too. Um, since starting with the sips,
25:00
suds and Smokes podcast, I've really
25:02
brought. >> Speaker B: He was gonna say posse there for a minute.
25:05
>> Speaker E: So close. I, uh, really thought he was gonna.
25:07
>> Speaker C: Say strawberry lube, but that's okay. >> Speaker B: How many times can we fit that in this podcast?
25:12
>> Speaker E: Yeah, right. >> Speaker C: Seven if you're counting.
25:16
>> Speaker B: But. >> Speaker E: That'S gonna, there's gonna be a drinking game for that.
25:26
But yeah. So this is, this is just one of those smokes, right? It's, it's a, it's
25:29
an all day kind of thing. It's uh, it's something that you can get
25:32
into, you know, it's not going to cling to you.
25:35
Uh, you can go on about your day, um, after
25:38
smoking this thing. >> Speaker B: Um, I thought it was the lot. It was a lighter side, but it was
25:42
also real earthy. Yeah. Like I got a lot of earth tones
25:45
out of it. A lot of like dirt, soil, kind of just
25:48
really what I like about a, ah, good Connecticut
25:51
cigars like that. It was very
25:54
much in my profile for Connecticut. >> Speaker C: Well, the one thing I'll add is this. That, ah, was actually my favorite
25:59
stick of the entire flight. And really, so, yeah, I did, I
26:02
thought it was that good, and I ended up
26:05
smoking it down to the nub. I was like, wow, I am disappointed
26:08
this is over. You know? What, uh, you think of it, Nate?
26:15
>> Speaker B: Yeah, uh, yeah. >> Speaker D: I mean, I, to me, I really like
26:19
this one. I find it's a, ah, what I'd call a utility
26:22
Connecticut, where it's just like
26:25
you, uh, can stand by it, but also
26:28
like for uh, me, it's just the thing I
26:31
love about it too, is how easy it burns. Like, it's got a
26:34
good draw, it's got a good burn. And especially when
26:37
you talk about morning cigars, like part of a
26:40
morning cigar is being able to
26:43
ease into your day and being able to take
26:45
that breath a lot of times before the morning. And so
26:48
to me, that cigar is always flawless
26:51
for just smoking perfectly too.
26:55
>> Speaker B: Yeah, I. What? Here's one of the things that I've
26:58
found that I really enjoy about the Matilda family
27:01
cigar lines. Okay. Um, um,
27:03
one is they're very approachable.
27:06
So if you have a friend or you know someone that's just getting into
27:09
cigars and you're like, I don't know if I like this. I don't know if I like this.
27:12
Or they're home about certain things. You can
27:15
go, let me put you onto this. This is
27:18
a, you know, the Connecticut, this is the Maduro.
27:21
This is, these are not overly, these aren't going to turn you off to
27:26
any of the shades that they have. Like, it
27:29
will help you come into what
27:32
you're finding out about cigars. So what
27:35
you're, it's a very, very much
27:37
approachable brand is what I'm trying. >> Speaker E: To say, and not just approachable from the flavor
27:42
of standpoint. Price point?
27:44
>> Speaker B: No price point. >> Speaker E: This, uh, hundred percent, you know, we in the, in the
27:48
whiskey industry, you talk about those bottles,
27:51
you know, that are the, the daily drinkers, the ones that
27:53
are underrated, overlooked, but at the right price
27:56
point, right, he's bang for your buck kind of sips. This
27:59
is the smoke for that. >> Speaker B: These are daily smokers, 100%. These are
28:03
$10 and under most
28:06
of the time. >> Speaker D: Um, I mean, the biggest size is pretty much
28:10
1011 bucks and under. >> Speaker C: Yeah, I actually think this is a good product line, you know,
28:15
entry point for, you know, people that not really
28:17
quite sure what you like and what you don't like. I mean, this
28:20
is, uh, well, even. >> Speaker B: If you do like cigars and you know, like, uh, as, uh,
28:24
avid cigar smokers, all of us, we're smoke this brand. Smoke
28:27
this brand like this brand is. Yeah, but absolutely
28:30
on to something. >> Speaker C: But, you know, Nate gets to see this all, all day
28:34
long. And a lot of, you know, things to talk about here on the show that people
28:37
are very, you know, brand, you know, rut
28:40
consistent. They, uh, fall in, you know, in
28:43
love with one or two things and. >> Speaker B: Then I'm guilty of that.
28:45
>> Speaker C: They just, you know, they'll, they'll wear it out to death and they won't
28:48
look, you know, to the left or the right. This is what I
28:51
call the step beyond the rut, which is, you know,
28:54
what I don't think we, you know,
28:56
what, you don't know. And you know, I think without, you know,
28:59
doing a swan dive in concrete and taking your down
29:02
some path where it's going to be, you know,
29:05
uh, uh, you know, a real
29:08
departure from what you have been
29:11
enjoying. If you were to go through this full product
29:13
line and then go back to your tobacco store and say
29:16
of these, you know, five or six sticks, I like these
29:19
two. These three are okay. This one is awesome.
29:22
That is really going to give you a kind of a reference card to
29:25
say, I like this flavor profile
29:28
and I like these sticks, but I
29:31
know there are going to be other people that are going to have some similar things
29:33
like this. I think, uh, that's how I
29:36
look at, you know, a lot of what they've done in this
29:39
product line is I don't think they've really gone after things that
29:42
are on the extreme end, you know, for a lot of these
29:45
combinations and almost pushing the
29:48
envelope of, you know, what the tobacco is going to give up in some
29:51
of these combos, I think they're going with good,
29:53
solid choices. I think they're sticking with
29:56
what works and it's really showing
29:59
through in a lot of the quality. >> Speaker B: I actually had that same conversation that
30:03
you're talking about with stump at the abbey
30:06
earlier today on my way in. Um,
30:10
uh, about another brand that I'm not gonna say now,
30:13
but, you know, we'll have them on. But
30:15
it, it was interesting. He was asking me about them and what I
30:18
thought, and I was like, well, this is neat, having this back and forth about,
30:21
you know, well, this brand. Like, there's a couple of solid
30:24
sticks and then there's a couple of sticks that are just like, man could
30:27
do with or without, you know. But that's just my,
30:30
my profile, you know? So don't just take one
30:33
person's profile and go, well, I'm gonna stack my humidor off one
30:36
person's profile because that's just silly, right?
30:38
>> Speaker E: Buffalo trace anybody? >> Speaker D: Well, and, and honestly, and something we don't always
30:43
talk about too, on this podcast, but is,
30:46
is the packaging is really
30:49
user friendly, I would say, in a sense, where I like the colors.
30:52
Yeah, the colors are nice. And the boxes all, they have the
30:54
boxes that match the colors. To me,
30:57
it's just if you want to get into this brand and start
31:00
smoking through it and diving through it, it's just some
31:03
brands make it real difficult to tell what is what.
31:06
And this one, it's really super straightforward,
31:09
coordinated, super easy. And so if even from a packaging
31:12
standpoint, it's really easy to dive into
31:15
Matilda. >> Speaker C: So part of what we were talking about is, uh, so
31:19
each of these, uh, cigars and the associated box
31:22
have a very distinctive color. And
31:24
so, you know, I think it's very easy for people
31:27
now. In fact, when we were going through this, I was like, well, did you have the
31:30
blue under the green one, you know, or did you have the orange one, you
31:33
know, even so, even as we were kind of talking about
31:36
our own notes and playing, you know, some of the show, we were actually
31:39
using those color references. It was a little bit easier
31:41
than, you know, what did the band say? Because, you
31:44
know, sometimes the way in which the branding, you
31:47
know, the band, it's like they all have the same name and the
31:50
same color. And then there's one small bit on
31:53
the band that tells you what that particular
31:56
stick is. And this is really apparent right under.
31:58
>> Speaker E: That major band that is. That is color
32:01
coded and has that classic,
32:04
well known Matilda logo. Uh, right underneath
32:07
that is the name. >> Speaker B: The name of the state of the.
32:10
>> Speaker E: Stick, which leads into its profile and just, like,
32:13
makes it. >> Speaker B: I'm very much a sucker for branding, and their branding
32:18
is on point. Well, after this commercial, we're going to
32:21
come back and talk about a couple more. Welcome back. As always, I'm sure those commercials
32:27
were riveting, and I hope you enjoyed every one of them.
32:30
But up next here, we got a couple
32:33
of, uh, special delights. >> Speaker C: We're going to rate the Connecticut.
32:37
>> Speaker B: Oh, that's right. >> Speaker C: We got to see. >> Speaker B: I'm getting ahead of myself. I love checks and balances,
32:41
folks. This is why we are together in one room.
32:44
So we're going to rate the Connecticut. What'd you guys think about the Connecticut?
32:47
There's. That is a resounding, resounding, resound across
32:52
the board. Five. We all
32:55
give it a five. That is a great cigar, great
32:57
stick. And we'll take a box if you send them to us.
33:01
>> Speaker E: But what was that, uh, term for across the
33:04
board? Again with. >> Speaker B: I don't know. Listen, words
33:08
are hard sometimes the english language.
33:10
>> Speaker C: My words are not the same as that.
33:15
>> Speaker B: That's right. Thank you, Kentucky, for
33:18
my education. >> Speaker C: Can he say that properly with a strap on?
33:21
>> Speaker B: That's right. That's right. But the strap on, what you were
33:24
saying. >> Speaker C: Oh, matilda. >> Speaker B: All right, so, Nate, we're gonna. We have a couple treats
33:30
here that they didn't send us for this podcast, but
33:33
we're gonna go ahead and talk about them because we love this
33:36
brand. Uh, Nate's gonna tell you about
33:38
the renaissance. I'm horrible at
33:41
pronouncing that. That's why I let him say it.
33:44
>> Speaker D: I said it. I said it too wrong the first time.
33:46
Anyways, uh, Jose cejas, the
33:49
legendary master blender who oversaw the
33:52
production of Monte Cristo, H. Upman, and
33:54
Romeo and Julieta, uh, for years, comes
33:57
back to the industry with the brand of his own,
34:00
Matilda Renaenzer. Renaenzer
34:03
means, in Spanish, means
34:05
rebirth. And this, uh,
34:08
portrays both the resurgence of Jose
34:11
Cejas and the rebirth of an old
34:14
dominican brand made by tobacco,
34:16
Lera la Matilde. In
34:19
1876 in Santiago, Dominican
34:21
Republic, Matilda renancer cigars
34:24
are made in predominantly dominican filler
34:27
with a bit of nicaraguan and dominican binder
34:30
and an ecuadorian habano wrapper. The
34:33
binder is dominican, the filler is dominican and
34:36
nicaraguan, and the wrapper is ecuadorian habano.
34:39
>> Speaker B: So tell us a little bit about this cigar.
34:42
>> Speaker D: First off, this is their first cigar they ever released.
34:45
>> Speaker B: This is the flagship. Yeah. >> Speaker D: So this is the first cigar they ever released. And the thing about this
34:50
one is, compared to the
34:53
quadrata. Cause on paper, they look like the same
34:56
blend. >> Speaker B: Yep. >> Speaker D: The quadrata is completely box pressed. This is completely
34:59
round. But to me, this one has a lot more
35:02
depth and a lot more. A little bit power behind
35:05
it. I get strong caramelly notes. So have
35:08
you. Have you guys, uh, smoked it? Has anybody else smoked?
35:10
>> Speaker E: You have smoked this? >> Speaker D: So you, Ben? You guys have. >> Speaker E: Okay, so I think I've smoked everything that they have.
35:15
>> Speaker D: So, yeah, so that cigar, to me, though, it's just, it's
35:18
a really rich, flavorful
35:20
cigar. I don't know, when they first came out,
35:23
they had that cigar out by itself for at least a year or
35:26
two. It was super solid to
35:28
me because it's just, it was very, like, old
35:31
world, old style. Um, but
35:34
very flavorful. >> Speaker B: Very. I was. I was very
35:38
earthy with it, so very earth notes, very cocoa.
35:41
Very, very much
35:43
what I wanted. A habano very much.
35:46
Words are hard for me. Uh, not to.
35:49
>> Speaker E: Not to use the. The over
35:52
burdened industry term, but terroir.
35:55
This thing is a taste of the
35:58
soil where it grows absolutely right in the
36:01
best ways possible, because it definitely has those
36:03
nice, earthy, you know,
36:06
um, soil rich
36:10
flavor profiles. But you also get
36:13
that nice little bit of, like, sweet molasses. You get a
36:16
little bit of the dark coffee. Um, and those of
36:19
you that may not know, like, Dominican Republic's rum country
36:22
also. And so this thing, like, I could just
36:24
imagine sitting with a
36:27
nice dominican rum with all of those
36:30
earthy vegetable flavors and pairing
36:33
the renaissance, uh, with it and
36:36
having an experience. >> Speaker B: I will say, if you have not had a renascear,
36:41
go get one. Go get to get three.
36:44
Get three. >> Speaker E: Might as well. >> Speaker B: You're gonna. You're gonna love it, and you're gonna thank us later for
36:48
it. Um, let's go with a rating on that, guys. What do you. What do we got?
36:53
So we're gonna go with a four. So I've. Magnificent. I always forget it. Says
37:03
that at the end I'm gonna catch them. We can tell on the
37:06
next episode. I'm not gonna say a word till I hear that. That's
37:09
right. You'll see. Folks, listen to the next
37:11
episode and hear me screw up again
37:14
on today's episode. So I've got a wild card for you guys. They, um, at
37:20
the PCA, I got one of their limited exposures,
37:24
uh, which. Have any of you guys had a chance to smoke with
37:27
it? >> Speaker D: Which one? One or two? >> Speaker B: It was red.
37:30
>> Speaker E: It's number one. >> Speaker B: It's number one. Number one. No. Number one. That's what I thought.
37:34
So, um, but the three of us, have
37:36
you, did you not? Okay. You didn't partake.
37:39
Banned. Once again, Mike. Yep. He always complains how he feels about.
37:46
So let me tell you about this limited exposure. It's, ah, written that
37:49
the limited exposure is a series of limited release
37:52
premium cigars by this brand, Matilda.
37:55
Uh, the cigar of the series will be available in limited quantities and
37:58
offered a certain times throughout the year. Each cigar in the
38:01
series bears the blends
38:04
number of the year that it was produced.
38:06
The beautifully crafted cigar features mouthwatering, oily,
38:09
dark mexican maduro wrapper placed over a
38:12
binder and filler made of dominican republic.
38:15
Uh, it's handmade in the Dominican Republic by
38:18
Matilda the tobacco lera
38:20
la asla isla isla
38:23
factory, uh, which is owned by hostess
38:26
Fernandez. Quesada. Quesada.
38:30
Quesadilla. I'm
38:33
horrible with names. Yeah. Quesada,
38:35
quesada. Thank you for having cigars.
38:38
>> Speaker D: Hopefully, uh, you sponsor us.
38:40
>> Speaker B: Yeah, sponsor us. Let's go. Cassada, man,
38:43
they made back in the day. Not. Not to,
38:46
uh. Well, we'll talk about that another day. We'll talk about that
38:49
another time. Uh, so the binder and filler, Dominican with a Mexican, uh,
38:53
rapper. Um, so what did
38:56
you guys think? I'll tell you what I think. What do you guys think?
39:00
>> Speaker D: First off, I do want to know a little bit about this
39:02
factory. Just because this factory
39:05
is a sleeper factory, in my opinion.
39:09
Well, there they opened up a couple years
39:11
ago. Uh, he. I'm not sure the
39:14
dude is somebody connected to the quesada family,
39:17
but, um, he.
39:20
So first cigars he put out limited, uh, with
39:23
was warped. He's done two cigars for warped. He's
39:26
done a couple for Mathilde. There's somebody else I'm blanking on.
39:29
But the thing about it is it's a
39:31
really, really small factory. And if you know anything
39:34
about, like the el Titendell bronze factory in Miami,
39:37
I get similar vibes off of that where it's just
39:40
you have like, a handful of people working there.
39:42
Everything is really quality
39:45
control about that place versus, you know,
39:48
a bigger factory where you're going to be pumping out cigars. This is,
39:51
this is about special projects, I would say.
39:53
>> Speaker B: Yeah, kind of. Everything's lte.
39:56
>> Speaker D: Yeah. I mean, pretty much so. I mean, the
39:59
warp stuff is regular production, but it's still, it's,
40:01
it's small production stuff.
40:04
>> Speaker B: Yeah. Uh, well, what would you say their productions are?
40:07
>> Speaker D: I don't know. I'm not, I'm not going to guess on that
40:10
today. >> Speaker B: I thought you knew everything. >> Speaker D: I don't.
40:12
>> Speaker B: Nate knows it all, folks. That's on the next episode.
40:15
>> Speaker E: He definitely tries. >> Speaker B: He tries. So what does the interweb say about this
40:18
factory? >> Speaker E: Yes, I'm just, uh, looking through here about
40:22
quesada cigars. Um, the Cassada family
40:24
has been a part of the tobacco industry for over a century.
40:27
Um, when they first arrived from Cuba and Spain, they were
40:30
bakers. Um, but in the early two
40:32
thousands, Manolo, um, Quesada assembled a new management
40:35
team around him, which included general manager Julio
40:38
Fajardo, Manolo's brother, Alvaro Quesada, who's
40:41
vice president, um,
40:44
and the company's farms. And, um, they
40:47
were in charge of a fledgling cigarette
40:50
operation. >> Speaker B: Okay. >> Speaker E: Um, 2002, a plane crash took the
40:54
lives, unfortunately, of all three, just leaving Manolo m
40:57
to run the company. Uh, today,
41:00
uh, Manolo Casado works with his two daughters, Patricia and
41:03
Raquel, and his niece, Esther Quesada, Alvaro's, uh,
41:06
daughter. The fifth generation of the Casada family.
41:08
>> Speaker B: That just goes on. I'm sorry to interrupt, but not sorry. That
41:11
just goes on to what Mike was talking about earlier, how the families
41:14
continue to pass these things down. Oh, yeah. >> Speaker D: And I don't know who this guy is because this guy is somebody
41:19
in that family. >> Speaker B: Sure. >> Speaker D: I mean, yeah, but all that to say, it's a
41:24
really cool factory. >> Speaker B: Yeah. >> Speaker D: Check him out. >> Speaker B: No, I think it's great. So what are we gonna
41:28
rate this guy? Absolutely love this. And it's a five across the board
41:36
now. Ah, they also released the number two
41:39
recently, and the number three is
41:41
out, coming out that march. >> Speaker D: Well, they've all. I don't know about their plans, but they've
41:46
only done one and two, like. >> Speaker B: Yeah. >> Speaker D: Ah, each year they essentially release
41:50
one, uh, in like spring and
41:53
one in the fall. But they've never done a three. There's never been talks
41:56
of. >> Speaker B: Well, hopefully they've got a three coming in the mix because I'm ready
41:59
to smoke it for sure.
42:02
So just like everything, life is good and worth
42:04
discussing. What did you guys pair with these things? Mike, we're going to start
42:09
with you. >> Speaker C: Hmm. Well, you know, um. Um, there were
42:12
a couple sticks that I had with, with a
42:15
few different things. I actually started off
42:18
with um. Um,
42:21
the um, quadrata I actually
42:24
had with a uh, rom that
42:27
was from Guyana. And
42:30
um, it was
42:33
okay. Um, I thought that rum was a good choice.
42:35
>> Speaker B: Where. No, uh. >> Speaker C: Um, the uh, guy in a rum that
42:40
I had uh, was. I forgot who the independent
42:43
bottler was off of this. I want to say it was
42:45
a um
42:48
k. Uh, Scott k uh.
42:51
>> Speaker B: Okay. >> Speaker C: The um.
42:54
Uh. So I thought rum was a good choice. Uh, with
42:57
the, with the quadretta, I probably would
43:00
have picked a different rum to go with.
43:02
Um, you know, something was probably a lot
43:05
sweeter than that particular uh, rum that
43:08
I chose. Um, let's see.
43:11
I actually had a scotch with the
43:14
uh, Serena Connecticut and that was spot
43:17
on. Um, I went to a uh,
43:20
kalila, um. Um, that had been uh, finished
43:23
in a sherry, uh, but
43:26
as well. And that was uh,
43:28
a ah, perfect combo. >> Speaker B: Yeah. Um.
43:31
>> Speaker C: Um, you know, the Connecticut is
43:33
just a ah, great way to set
43:36
things up where you can really go after
43:39
a huge flavor bombs, you know, to be able to
43:42
pair with that. I probably would have even gone
43:45
for even an ila, uh, um, you know,
43:48
base Scott would have been probably good. I can see it
43:51
laphroaig that working really well with that.
43:53
Um, would have went with that. Yeah, I think uh,
43:56
I probably would even gone, you know, some products
43:59
in the art bag line. Alligator, uh, heavy. What uh, if what uh, if worked out, I
44:05
don't think I would have gone full blown, you know, Octamore, you
44:07
know, paint, uh, thinner, but maybe like.
44:10
>> Speaker E: Like a brick lottie. Something that's got a little salinity to it.
44:13
>> Speaker C: Uh, well Brooklyn's not peded.
44:16
Um, but you know, I,
44:19
I think that that is a general, a good
44:22
pairing choice is when you have something that is, you know,
44:25
really sweet like those, you know, in a Connecticut
44:27
wrapper, is that you can really go after things that are really good flavor
44:30
bombs. And I tend to go after things
44:33
that have um, a lot of wood or have in
44:36
this case, you know, a lot of you know, peat or something that's
44:39
finished that's really going to. To really bring in a
44:42
tremendous amount of flavor, you know, with this
44:44
um, actually had a wine
44:47
with uh, the
44:50
um, not the askura, but
44:52
um, forgot uh, the other stick.
44:56
>> Speaker B: Talking about wine the renancer. >> Speaker C: Uh, yeah, no, the serena maduro. Serena
45:00
maduro. Uh, I actually had good. Yeah, I actually
45:03
had a red zen with that, and
45:06
I thought that was a really good choice. Um, it actually, uh, I thought
45:11
it really enhanced the wine, you know, quite a bit. I actually
45:14
enjoyed that combo. >> Speaker B: I would have went carbonier or cab frock.
45:18
>> Speaker C: Yeah, those are blending grapes. Um, but,
45:21
uh, like, blending grape, I think you needed something that was
45:24
a bit more beefier to kind of stand up to it all.
45:27
>> Speaker B: I'm not a wine guy. Just throwing that out there. >> Speaker C: That's okay. But obviously, um, I'm impressed
45:32
you knew the word franc without saying, you know, a
45:35
flavor of lou. >> Speaker B: You mean. >> Speaker E: Frank don't make wine.
45:37
>> Speaker B: No more dogs.
45:40
>> Speaker C: Um, you know, I think that's probably, what
45:43
if I had to maybe summarize some
45:46
of the pairing choices again, very good.
45:49
Hand in hand, I really think of that product
45:52
line is, um,
45:55
a very good reference guide. I mean, I think you can sit down and
45:58
say you're going to find good
46:00
pairing, uh, elements with things that you like. You may
46:03
not, you know, with some of those cigars
46:06
that maybe you just had with nothing else with it. If
46:09
it was paired with something, you actually might enjoy
46:12
the cigar a lot more and would really enhance
46:15
the entire experience. So, I mean, I think
46:18
that's why I really tend to think of, you know, this product line is a
46:21
good reference set, is to say, sit down and, you
46:24
know, have two cigars and three different products that
46:27
you pair with all three of them. Uh, and you're going to go, yes,
46:30
no, yes, no, yes, no. And you're going to figure out,
46:33
you know, pretty quickly, a bit of some process of elimination,
46:36
both what you like and what you don't like. So, you
46:38
know, that's what I like about this product line in
46:41
general. >> Speaker B: It's funny. Cause I did a rum as well. I
46:44
was Havana club, uh, seven. Okay,
46:47
so which was great with it. >> Speaker C: With which stick, do you remember?
46:50
>> Speaker B: Uh, that was with the Maduro.
46:54
And I thought it went really good well with it, but I
46:57
also did, like, coffee and root beer and,
47:00
and, and I went irish
47:02
whiskey with them. >> Speaker C: Huh.
47:04
>> Speaker B: So I was in there like a red breast.
47:07
>> Speaker C: Yeah. >> Speaker B: Like, uh, you know which one? Um, so I did
47:10
two different red breasts. I did one of them 15. Well, no,
47:13
one was a little style. >> Speaker E: Nice.
47:16
>> Speaker B: Which was great. Yeah. With it.
47:18
And then the other one was the. The 15. Yeah.
47:21
>> Speaker E: I think that the style sherry cass. >> Speaker B: Would be super tasty mead or hogshead cherry
47:28
cask or whatever. >> Speaker E: Hogs hogs. >> Speaker B: Meadow, dude,
47:32
let me start it. >> Speaker C: Yeah, I think that's a good setup in general, you know,
47:36
for Maduro's, um, lend itself pretty
47:39
well to a lot of, you know, broad range virus whiskeys.
47:42
Yeah, yeah, I think that's a, uh, that's a good go to.
47:45
>> Speaker B: I would encourage people not to. To hold yourself to one.
47:47
One different to one only
47:51
taste profile. When you're drinking something, pairing with a
47:53
cigar, branch out if you've got multiple bottles. Tries to
47:56
try different things. >> Speaker E: Oh, comparative and contrasting. Tasting
48:00
is a big, big thing. >> Speaker B: Yeah, because they'll pull out flavors, they'll pull out other nuances that
48:04
you didn't even know was there, you know? What about you
48:07
guys, real quick? We only got a short amount of time here. What is.
48:10
>> Speaker E: But I was on a heavy dose
48:12
of liquid, um, death lime
48:15
flavored soda waters for this. >> Speaker B: There you go.
48:17
>> Speaker E: Clean, crisp, refreshing. The lime brings on that kind of
48:20
island vibe. And just a great reset as you smoke
48:23
through these cigars. >> Speaker B: Nate. >> Speaker D: I'm just going to say some nice old filtered h two.
48:27
>> Speaker B: Oh, there you go. Some water, some agua.
48:30
All right, well, this has been a
48:33
great show. Product line, been a great,
48:36
