We all have stress. What can you do about it?

How to Reduce / Manage Stress

Stress is a normal part of life, but too much stress can have nasty effects on your physical and mental health.

What stresses you out?

  • Issues at work.

  • Change in a relationship. (friend, partner, sibling, neighbor, parents)

  • Divorce/break up

  • Exams & studying.

  • Buying a house.

  • Reading/watching the news.

  • Having a child.

  • Starting a new job.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by stress, there are things you can do about it and you have to be willing to do your life differently.

Here are some ideas for reducing your stress:

  • Write down your stressors. The first step to reducing stress is to identify the things that are causing you stress. Once you know what your stressors are, you can start to develop strategies for dealing with them.

  • Take breaks. It's important to take breaks throughout the day, especially if you're feeling stressed. Get up and move around, step outside for some fresh air, or do something else that relaxes you.

  • Physical Activity. Exercise is a great way to reduce stress. It releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week.

  • Get more sleep. When you're sleep-deprived, you're more likely to feel stressed. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

  • Eat healthy. Eating a healthy diet can help improve your mood and energy levels, which can make it easier to cope with stress.

  • Spend time with friends/loved ones. Social support is important for reducing stress. Spend time with friends and family who make you feel good.

  • Learn to say no & yes. Don't overextend yourself. It's okay to say no to things that you don't have time for or that will add to your stress levels.

  • Practice relaxation techniques. There are many different relaxation techniques that can help reduce stress, such as deep breathing, meditation, and yoga, music. Find one that works for you and practice it regularly.

  • Ask for help. If you're struggling to cope with stress, don't be afraid to seek professional help. A therapist can teach you coping skills and help you develop a stress management plan.

  • Get a grip on your time. Time blocking. Making/keeping personal agreements

Reducing stress takes time and effort, but it's worth it. When you're less stressed, you'll have more energy, you'll be more productive, and you'll enjoy life more.
