RATING
The show has some moments that express human curiosity and desire for connection. Some of the ideas of the positives and negatives of a human-based intelligence software were interesting (how humans personify technology), but it could have gone farther with AIs like Alexa (or Sandra, in this case), being a horrific invasion of privacy - and not just because bad people can easily find your address. The season ends on a cliffhanger and the podcast is likely abandoned.
The overall concept of this podcast (real humans playing the role of a virtual assistant) is very clever. The scripts, acting, sound etc. are all top-notch. The only issue (and I've found this to happen with other podcasts, as well) is.... at a certain point there appeared to be no more episodes, and suddenly an entirely different podcast (Gay Pride & Prejudice) was playing. I can only surmise that they'd not yet written anymore Sandra episodes, and so in the interim they decided to entice us with another of their Gimlet podcasts. I just wish it were made more clear, for the listeners, what exactly is going on. Because at first I was very confused...'what is this other podcast that's playing...and WHY is this playing?'. Also, I first listened to Sandra in 2023, and yet I can now see from some of the other comments here that...Sandra seemed to first come out in 2018. So I guess the takeaway from all of this is that for whatever reason, the producers never finished the Sandra podcast series, and so it just 'ended' in the middle of the story....
Really needed more. Also how did Alia Shawkat end up married to such a loser?
Really enjoying it so far. Stellar cast.
I've listened to the first 4 episodes and it's great. I found myself falling into the story, which doesn't always happen to me with audio fiction. I think it's because it's a compelling story, but also you have some great actors and a nice sound background. Other audio dramas should strive to be as good as this one.
I like the premise of Sandra, the idea that someone is on the other end when I ask my AI (Bixby) a question is kind of amusing - even if it's not exactly feasible. The story shows how humans can really screw up AI and I'd be interested in listening to more of the story.
It was good... however, I am still looking forward to the second season ;)
