1:58

love to hear more about you. We'd love to answer. whatever question

2:00

that you have. It's big show time. The

2:03

big show. Okay,

2:06

Greg. Last but certainly

2:08

not least, let's dive

2:10

into the defensive line, which

2:12

I think is probably the second most

2:15

important position in the sport after quarterback.

2:17

Some people think offensive line, which obviously

2:19

I love as a former

2:21

offensive lineman, but I

2:23

think defensive line, and in

2:25

particular, I think defensive tackle,

2:27

extremely important in today's NFL.

2:30

But the higher ranked guys

2:32

that are going to go higher, the draft

2:34

appear to be the edge guys. Although

2:36

interesting, a lot of people talking like there might not

2:38

even be any defensive guys who go off the board

2:40

in the top 10, the top 12 picks. Out

2:44

of the edge guys, Greg. Latu

2:47

from UCLA, Jared Vers, Florida

2:49

State, Dallas Turner, Bama, Chopp,

2:51

Robinson, Penn State. Was there

2:53

a guy that really

2:56

jumped out to you as perhaps being the

2:58

best one or the most interesting one? Yeah,

3:01

I mean, it's always the case with players at

3:03

the same position, which as you know, Ross, why

3:06

I don't like making lists. They're

3:08

all different, but I really liked Latu's tape

3:10

a lot. And again, he

3:13

may not even be on team's draft boards because

3:15

of the medical. People might not know that he

3:17

did not play for two years. He'd hurt his

3:19

neck when he was at the University of Washington.

3:21

They would not clear him. And then he went

3:23

to UCLA where he did get cleared by

3:26

high-level doctors. And he's played the last two

3:28

years. I think he

3:31

easily has the most tools in his

3:33

toolbox as a pass rusher, which is

3:35

very surprising for a lot of college

3:37

players. He's very refined. He knows how

3:39

to use his hands. He's

3:43

long. Again,

3:46

when I watch players, I normally think

3:48

in two ways, Ross, and I know

3:50

people love comparisons. I think

3:52

in terms of when a player came out

3:54

of college, because sometimes a

3:56

player comes out of college and is a

3:59

good person. prospect but then he becomes

4:01

a great player in the NFL or sometimes

4:03

I see a player in the NFL that

4:05

he Reminds me of and the

4:07

player a lot to reminded me of when this

4:10

player came out of college With

4:12

TJ Watt I think because

4:14

Watt was not a you know, a 20 sack guy

4:16

in Wisconsin In fact, he did not

4:18

have a ton of sacks in college and obviously

4:20

you can argue He's easily a top three pass rusher

4:22

in the league right now But

4:25

a lot too was long he's athletic and

4:28

there's a lot to his game. He understands

4:30

how to rush the quarterback That

4:32

was amazing Greg. Do you realize what you just did? You

4:36

said there's a lot to his

4:38

game There's

4:44

a lot to his game that is it I'm

4:46

using that okay 36 hours a lot Even

4:50

after he gets drafted. Listen, the thing I like about

4:52

him is there's a lot to his game. That

4:55

is funny Greg nice You didn't

4:57

even do that on purpose, right? No, I

4:59

didn't actually that was incredible And

5:02

then all right. Yeah, I know

5:04

about some of the other guys here I mean verse

5:06

is a power player Verse is

5:09

incredibly strong and he's best with his

5:11

hand in the ground in the three-point

5:13

stance One thing I noticed

5:15

watching him is when he was in

5:17

a two-point stance standing up He had

5:20

false steps rushing the quarterback. I think

5:22

he's a pure D end with his

5:24

hand in the ground He had no

5:26

false steps. He was devastatingly explosive off

5:28

the ball first step explosiveness I

5:31

looked at verse as a much better version.

5:33

Let's say of cave on Thibodeau. Both guys

5:36

are power players They're not

5:38

necessarily pure benders. They can bend

5:40

somewhat but they're at their core

5:42

power players But verse

5:44

is really really strong Tremendous

5:46

contact strain when he hits offensive

5:49

tackles, he jars them. There are

5:51

examples where he just shocks them

5:53

So his game is about power

5:56

So that's interesting because you know, you

5:58

don't see him you

6:01

know projected to go in the top 10

6:03

by anyone and yet you

6:05

call them a much better version of K-Von

6:07

Thibodeau who was like the fifth pick or

6:09

something. Yeah, it's just a function of a

6:11

draft and where the league's going. The league

6:13

is... I'm at

6:15

the combine. Everybody talks now about explosive

6:18

plays on offense. This is a quarterback

6:20

draft. It's a wide receiver draft. It's

6:22

possible eight of the first ten players

6:24

drafted could be quarterbacks and wide receivers.

6:26

Obviously we don't know that but it

6:28

could well be the case and you

6:30

started out by saying we might not

6:32

see a defensive player drafted in the

6:35

first 12. That's very very possible. I

6:37

think it's just this particular draft and

6:39

where the league is going but that's

6:41

not relevant in terms of evaluating players.

6:44

So I did Greg the

6:46

Ole Miss Alabama game. So

6:49

I got a chance to watch both defensive

6:51

ends for Alabama and it's interesting

6:54

because Dallas Turner's a really impressive

6:56

player and really

6:58

explosive but I

7:00

was also really impressed with Braswell.

7:03

Braswell to me looked

7:06

like a pro. Just the

7:08

way he went about it. Physical,

7:10

tough, hustle. Braswell

7:12

I'd be surprised if

7:15

he's not at a minimum rotational

7:17

D-N for someone. I think he ends

7:19

up becoming a solid starter in the

7:22

NFL. I think he actually has more

7:24

ability than he gets credit for.

7:26

I think maybe Turner's you

7:29

know off the charts testing numbers

7:31

kind of overshadowed Braswell

7:33

a little bit but man I was impressed

7:35

with Braswell when I watched the tape. Talk

7:37

to me about the two Alabama guys one

7:40

at a time. Well Turner

7:42

is obviously as you said he's the

7:44

longer and more explosive looking athlete. He's

7:46

the one who jumps off the film

7:48

because of the way in which he

7:50

moves the kinds of plays he can

7:52

make. No question. He's someone teams will

7:54

look at that if he can reach

7:56

his ceiling could be one of those

7:58

true edge pass rushers. that you think of

8:00

getting 15, 16 sacks every year, just

8:03

because the talent level, the physical athletic

8:05

traits are there. I love

8:07

what you said about Braswell, because I

8:09

agree with you. Braswell's kind of a

8:11

lowercase verse. His game is built on

8:13

power. And you

8:16

know, again, I'm gonna give you, you know, I'm

8:18

gonna give you another comp here, because

8:22

as I said, these just pop into my head. He

8:25

weighs a few pounds less, but you know who

8:27

he reminded me of when this player came out

8:29

of college, and this player that I'm going to

8:31

mention was not a

8:33

high pick, and he's turned into a really

8:36

good pass rusher, but when he came out

8:38

of college, he was not a power five

8:40

player at all. Braswell reminded me of Matt

8:42

Judon coming out of college. And

8:45

Matt Judon came out of Grand Valley State. He was

8:47

a fifth round pick, as I said, a little bigger.

8:50

And Judon has obviously developed, he was hurt

8:52

this year, and developed into a real quality

8:55

pass rusher. I could see Braswell's career following

8:57

that course. I agree with you. He could

8:59

start out being kind of a rotational player,

9:01

and then all of a sudden, two, three

9:04

years down the road, you go out. That

9:06

Braswell guy's really good. Yeah,

9:08

I liked him quite a bit. You

9:10

know, when you're prepping for a game,

9:13

I had seen Dallas Turner on all the

9:15

mock drafts, you know, before the season, and

9:17

the top five ranking, and all that stuff.

9:20

And it seemed like Braswell was more of like an afterthought.

9:22

I was like, who's this 41? He's

9:25

good. I mean, he can

9:27

really play. And normally, Ross,

9:30

power translates. You

9:32

know, normally the guys who are

9:34

powerful players, that translates to the

9:36

league. Sometimes they're really good athletes,

9:39

sometimes because their game is built so

9:41

much on movement, and sometimes those guys

9:43

can sort of be neutralized at times.

9:45

But normally, nothing's 100%, and

9:48

that's why it's still human beings

9:50

evaluating human beings. But normally, power

9:52

translates. And I

9:55

would say, from an offensive lineman

9:58

standpoint, Greg, It.

10:01

It's. You I don't was a It's easy

10:03

to block guys that don't have power. But.

10:06

When you go against a guy. That.

10:08

Has power, It. Changes

10:11

the way you have to set on him. So.

10:13

Know the guy doesn't really display

10:16

power. You. Can really.

10:19

You. Don't have to be as worried about your

10:21

anchor. You. Can kind of slide

10:24

and and be a little bit

10:26

more upright and a little bit

10:28

more athletic position if you're worried.

10:31

About a guy's power. And.

10:33

They threaten you with power and powers.

10:36

a big party or game. You're almost

10:38

always very good. This makes sense even

10:40

know you're. You're. Moving your

10:43

feet whenever you're very conscious,

10:46

Of being ready. To. Brace

10:48

for impact and and setting your feet

10:50

and and taking him on. Yeah Anna

10:52

a like no no you're right I

10:55

got. You know I didn't mind going

10:57

against guys. Everything was loud over the

10:59

athletic this is gonna mirror them right

11:01

but the guys that income with that

11:03

power and your that the be aware

11:06

of it. It's like. If

11:08

a guy has really great

11:10

speed, You're. Always conscious of

11:12

that and maybe you over set

11:14

more than you should. If a

11:16

guy has really good power, you're

11:18

always conscious of that. And

11:21

it just. It

11:23

changes your ability to move as fluid

11:25

li as you want because you're constantly

11:27

aware of the threat of this guy

11:29

can come right out and you want

11:31

to set him flatter because you don't

11:33

want to let him get the speed

11:35

to power to humans at the Southern

11:37

differently. you know if you've got power

11:39

you don't want to give him a

11:41

h yard run. He actually was funny.

11:43

Say that because as you are telling

11:45

that story reminded me of being last

11:47

summer, the online masterminds with Duke many

11:49

weather and his group down in Texas.

11:51

and are you know those guys. As.

11:54

Every. Offensive tackle that was there.

11:56

the first thing they said they said

11:58

you have the. If a guy

12:00

is a really good speed to power

12:03

pass rusher. That. Changes the way

12:05

you set. And then there was Andrew Whitworth.

12:07

Oops. Played for twenty years in the league

12:09

and I remember him saying that all these

12:12

guys that are sort of athletic guys that

12:14

can advance in I would try to features

12:16

that way. He said eventually they've been to

12:18

you you just need to wait for them

12:21

He said eventually they've gotta come to you

12:23

because they gotta get past you So it's

12:25

to speed to power guys that are more

12:28

concerning. And. Even

12:30

if they don't get assessed. Or

12:34

compressing the pocket right there that

12:36

you know they can affect a

12:38

quarterback without getting a sec just

12:41

by knocking your back. A

12:43

little bit. I just want to get to. Chop.

12:45

Robinson Greg. Yeah, I've met shop Yeah,

12:48

you know I watch a bunch of

12:50

Penn State football. He's. A

12:52

really interesting guy because you'll

12:54

do. A. Couple plays a game

12:57

where you're like holy crap like he looks

12:59

they make a Parsons feed, yeah, but he's

13:01

just as he just doesn't do. A.

13:03

Lot. Of no reason.

13:06

He ate Uma. His pressure to

13:09

sack ratio is a. Lot.

13:12

It just didn't feel like he sealed

13:14

the deal that much. Yeah, yeah, that's

13:16

why you have to watch to T

13:18

V have to find the context because he

13:20

does create a lot of pressure. I

13:22

remember watching the Ohio State game this

13:24

year on tape and I think on

13:26

the first six pass attempts he had

13:28

he beat the right tackle so quickly

13:30

off the edge but the ball without

13:32

so he didn't get either a hit

13:34

or sat on. But he is the

13:36

most explosive. Of all these guys now he

13:38

needs more to his game. Ross and I

13:41

love your Micah Parsons com because again it's

13:43

not an Apples to Apples. We're not saying

13:45

he's make a Parsons Would you know is

13:47

was I do. Parsons was not viewed as

13:49

what he's become when he came out of

13:52

Penn State. and Robinson is a guy. Think

13:54

you can move around like that? I think

13:56

you can look for matchups. He such an

13:58

explosive athletes are still. Start his career

14:00

as a sub defense player. He needs

14:03

work in the run game, but you

14:05

are talking about a really explosive athlete.

14:08

You know, What's. Really interesting. Greg

14:10

and I just started this. I.

14:13

Think we forget the fact. That.

14:16

Micah was an off the ball linebacker

14:18

at Penn State. correct, I made it

14:20

makes what and and I saw them

14:22

have like five sacks a game and

14:24

high school. but. It. Makes

14:26

what he done, the Nfl even

14:29

more impressive. To. Didn't even do

14:31

it at the college level. I only played

14:33

two years of college. Was interesting because he

14:35

was recruited by a lot of schools as

14:37

as a pass rushing the end are coming

14:39

out of high schools. You probably know because

14:41

I know you do that kind of warrior.

14:44

That's what he played. the media boy he

14:46

was mean. Best. High school pass rusher.

14:48

I've. Ever seen. Best beer I've ever

14:51

seen. Greg is Labatt Blue Light. It's

14:53

when I like to drink when I'm

14:55

watching the draft. Tomorrow night Friday say

14:57

going to be a bunch of about

14:59

blue lights for me Live in life

15:01

to the power of we always enjoyed

15:04

it responsibly. Beer The Bat Usa. Buffalo.

15:07

New York, Let's get to the inside

15:09

guys. Greg. Feel

15:11

that there's growing buys over

15:13

the last week or so

15:15

about Byron Murphy. From. Texas.

15:19

In. That the of people talk about him

15:21

but as the to be in the

15:23

first defensive player of the board top twenty

15:25

year he's got that body type Greg

15:27

six one, three hundred and explosive. What

15:29

did you see from him? Yeah.

15:31

love byron murphy's tape loved it's i

15:33

think he's the best interior player or

15:36

in this draft again i don't know

15:38

where i'll get drafted out of the

15:40

same bus you have he is a

15:42

freaky athlete for that size that kind

15:44

of body type you have there been

15:46

a lot of players as you go

15:48

back years with that kind of body

15:50

type who'd been really really good insights

15:53

you didn't go back to john randall

15:55

who's in the hall of fame you

15:57

go back to someone like geno atkins

15:59

enough players playing would be the Grady

16:01

Jarot types, you know, these guys who

16:03

are shorter sort of short stout, but

16:05

this kid Murphy is so Explosive,

16:08

I mean his lower body strength

16:10

and his pure explosion I think

16:12

he's clearly the best defensive tackle

16:14

prospect in this draft You

16:17

know, he's a little bit thicker

16:19

than these guys But

16:22

man some of the guys Brian

16:25

Young, LeRoy Glover, he's

16:28

a little bit more powerful and thicker. Those guys

16:31

were a little bit more explosive

16:33

and technique guys, but I've

16:36

seen some plays where Byron Murphy's getting double

16:38

teamed and he Keeps

16:40

his balance, sheds him and makes the play.

16:43

It's Crazy impressive. While we're

16:45

on the Texas guys, Greg, what do you think

16:47

of the other guy? T'Vondre

16:50

Sweat because you know, I

16:53

Feel like there's one of these guys every year like the

16:55

365 pound guy Who

16:59

it's like, okay, he's good against the

17:01

run, but he has weight issues What's

17:03

he gonna become obviously, you know, we

17:05

talked about Jordan Davis a lot as

17:07

it relates to Philadelphia Eagles You

17:10

know, he's not T'Vondre Sweat is

17:12

not Jordan Davis, but they're both

17:15

huge huge men That

17:17

I think there's a debate

17:19

every year regarding the value that they provide

17:23

Yeah, and unfortunately Sweat had I think a

17:25

DUI a couple of weeks ago Yeah,

17:27

that could impact his draft status and he certainly

17:29

wasn't going to be a top 15 pick anyway

17:32

But I personally think his college tape is

17:34

far better than Jordan Davis's was He's

17:37

he's a lighter Foot

17:40

athlete than Jordan Davis you watch Sweat and

17:43

you see him make plays down the line

17:45

of scrimmage You see him rush the quarterback.

17:47

He's got really light athletic feet for a

17:49

man that size now I'm sure any team

17:51

that drafts him will want him to lose

17:54

some weight. He was 366 at the combine

17:56

not likely to play at 366 You'll

17:59

probably playing the 340 range but he

18:01

is athletic. He can move laterally. He's got

18:04

that kind of juice to him. He's not

18:06

just a straight line guy and of course

18:08

because he is so big he is difficult

18:11

to move one-on-one in the run game but

18:13

there's more to his game than that. You

18:17

know there's a guy I wanted to make sure I asked you

18:19

about as well and that's

18:21

Darius Robinson because what's

18:24

interesting about him Greg is people

18:26

have sort of differing opinions on

18:30

what he is. He's got that 6'5", 286 pound

18:36

body type almost like a Cam

18:39

Jordan body type. Is

18:41

he an inside guy? Is he

18:44

an outside guy? Is he

18:46

a 3'4", DN5 technique, 4i? What

18:48

is he Greg? Well it's

18:50

funny you say that because he'd almost he'd

18:53

be like that old-school strong side DN in

18:55

a 4'3", you know those under over fronts

18:57

where you have a strong side DN that

18:59

lines up over the tight end you know

19:01

back 20 years ago but

19:04

he has really his power capacity and

19:06

his ability to lock out with his

19:08

arm length is really good. I mean

19:10

he's a big big man. I don't

19:14

think he's quite as juicy as Cam Jordan

19:16

was when Cam Jordan came out but

19:19

this guy he can play DN. Now with

19:21

all the five man fronts he can move

19:23

in and sort of play that 4i position.

19:27

I think he'll get better as a pass rusher

19:29

the more he plays in the league. The

19:31

player he kind of reminded me of

19:34

in terms of deployment and this player

19:36

I'm going to mention was undrafted but

19:38

he's become a really good player and

19:40

he just signed a really good deal

19:42

with the Houston Texans is DeNico Autry,

19:44

a player who can play DN in

19:46

your base defense and then move inside

19:49

and be a very effective interior pass

19:51

rusher in your sub fronts. I

19:53

really liked Darius Robinson and again the

19:55

power in his game and the

19:58

hand and arm strength that trans to

20:00

the league. Last guy I got to

20:02

get your thoughts on because I called a couple of

20:04

his games in college. Braden

20:06

Fisk from Florida State. I

20:08

called his games when he was at Western

20:12

Michigan. Your thoughts on Fisk?

20:15

I loved watching Fisk. He plays

20:17

every single snap as if

20:19

it's the last snap he's ever going to play.

20:22

But this guy is really a good

20:24

athlete. I mean this guy

20:27

you know the thing that'll be a knock on

20:30

him and it does have merit is he has

20:32

very very short arms. But I thought

20:34

he used them effectively. He understood how to

20:36

use them even though they're short. Now that

20:38

is a factor but he

20:40

did keep his body clean. He created

20:43

space for himself. I

20:45

think he's a three technique. I think he's

20:47

got the athleticism and the

20:49

movement to be a three technique but he

20:51

also showed the ability to two-gap but that

20:53

might be tougher with the short arms in

20:55

the NFL. But I

20:58

mean this guy has that confined

21:00

space and short stroke strength to

21:02

initiate and then play off contact.

21:05

I really liked his game a lot. I

21:07

could see this guy really being a solid

21:09

player in the NFL. Well I

21:12

like your game Greg. Thank you so

21:14

much for everything during the pre-draft process.

21:16

Really looking forward to breaking down these

21:18

picks with you next week. Thank you

21:20

so much. Thanks Ross. Gosh Greg is

21:23

good. Just like the game

21:25

time app. It's like the game

21:27

time apps time to shine. So glad that

21:29

they're advertising again right now. You know why? We

21:32

got NBA playoffs. I got to go to

21:34

the Sixers game tomorrow night. I'm not doing

21:37

that because it's the NFL Draft tomorrow night

21:39

but I could via the game

21:41

time app or what about just any of

21:44

The other things we got going

21:46

on: the NFL Draft, NHL playoffs,

21:48

baseball.. You should see how inexpensive

21:50

some of the baseball tickets are.

21:52

It's ridiculous. You can get in

21:54

Jack to the Sixers game tomorrow

21:56

for $85. Really

22:00

surprised by that. That

22:02

surprise you. Yeah. I mean,

22:04

I think they've always sort of been

22:06

that price. I'm not too surprised. modernisers.

22:51

That sounds like a long time to

22:53

graduate is a those guys. They obviously

22:56

deserve it. Back to backs you both

22:58

three out of what the last five

23:00

or six years. they all deserve it.

23:02

That's. Unbelievably hard to

23:04

do in the Nfl. Kudos to

23:06

them and they got paid. You

23:08

have a rare to have that

23:11

type of length in a car

23:13

drives in the Nfl. Trade

23:16

that's easily forever Broncos. They swap late takes

23:18

the Jets for quarterbacks aquos him and they

23:20

will split his salary. Do.

23:22

Jack. I feel like I kind of called that.

23:26

I. Mean Monday were talking about the

23:28

media Monday from good Ranchers and

23:30

I said. Nobody. Really wants

23:32

that will still get out the like,

23:34

give up a pig like the Jets

23:36

did and that are going to get

23:38

the whole five point four million fully

23:41

guaranteed jets are paying half of it.

23:44

Now. the judge least in move up a little

23:46

bit from like pick to fifty to pick two

23:48

hundred but. They. Basically.

23:51

Like. Did nothing just to get jacked

23:53

Wilson off the roster money or paying

23:55

Zach Wilson two point seven five million

23:57

dollars this year to go away. Our.

24:00

Roster: Dom: As you did not predict

24:02

these roster moves, Commanders: they released offensive

24:05

and Shaka Tony Broncos signed quarterback Leave

24:07

I Wallace Bengals give back up. We're

24:09

back. Seek brownie, a two year deal

24:11

and the animal reinstate quarterback Isaiah Rodgers

24:13

who was suspended a year for gambling.

24:15

I'm intrigued by Isaiah Rodgers. Because

24:18

he played pretty well. and twenty twenty

24:20

two, I did one or two of

24:22

games at Umass. He's an awesome kick

24:24

returner which is perfect timing for the

24:27

Eagles and then. Jake. Browning

24:29

is a good backup so that's nice for the

24:31

Bengals. have that locked up leave. I was solid

24:33

and and shaka Tony was a get one. of

24:35

the guys are getting better for a year for

24:37

betting. And investigation the

24:39

potential tabling tampering by the Eagles, the

24:41

Falcons during free agency this year's ongoing

24:44

or not include this week prior to

24:46

the dressed which means any loss of

24:48

draft pick would be twenty twenty five

24:50

Did are more to say about this

24:52

if and when they're actually punished I

24:54

would just say. There's. So

24:56

much tampering that goes on. It's

24:58

kind of comical. I guess you

25:01

just can't like say it out

25:03

loud. Or. Be blatant about it

25:05

and then you will get busted.

25:07

Be curious. Yeah, The Nfl. Ends

25:09
