Welcome to Revival Radio TV. I'm Gene Bailey.

0:30

Today is a great program, and you're going to really enjoy this.

0:34

Of course, we're going to talk about revival.

0:37

I know it's a shock, right? But our guest today is a revival historian,

0:42

but she's also the great-granddaughter

0:44

of one of the most famous miracle revival tent preachers,

0:47

A.A. Allen. So she's going to share some insights about revival

0:52

and a few stories we have not heard before about one

0:56

of our favorite preachers. ♪

1:03

[Rebekah] I spent a good portion of my childhood hearing stories

1:07

about how great God is and what He's capable of.

1:10

And it really stirred something in my heart as a child.

1:13

I remember going when I was about nine years old

1:17

on a family vacation, and out came all of these miracle magazines like,

1:22

you know, these ones here, just so many different magazines

1:27

showing just a monthly dialogue of all that God is capable of

1:32

that was going on in the ministry of my great-grandfather.

1:35

My great-grandpa was A.A. Allen.

1:40

And he was known for quite a few things during

1:44

the healing revival of the 1950s and 60s.

1:49

And this was his tent that went up in 1960.

1:53

It was the world's largest tent. And this tent was actually larger than an American

1:58

football field. It was absolutely massive and would seat 20,000 people.

2:04

So they would fill it three times a day most of the year,

2:08

day after day in various campaigns.

2:11

And the scale and scope of what happened was quite incredible.

2:19

[A.A. Allen] Oh, I believe that God wants to come to people

2:21

under this tent tonight. Jesus may desire to come to you.

2:26

Last night he came to a man here on a stretcher,

2:31

given up to die there said his daughter tonight.

2:34

Said he's feeding himself today.

2:36

He's having a great time. Oh, friend, listen to me.

2:39

God came to people here last night.

2:42

God came to multitudes of people last night.

2:45

He comes to people morning, afternoon,

2:47

and night under this tent. And people on these stretchers and these wheelchairs

2:52

that can't walk, God is going to come to them tonight.

2:57

I think that my great-grandfather was searching

3:00

to learn how to go about the call of God on his life.

3:07

When he was just at that moment of having a radical encounter

3:13

with God where he was saved as a young man

3:17

at 23 years old, he had a vision at that time

3:21

and saw masses of crowds of people

3:25

that he was preaching to, and hundreds and thousands of people

3:28

were coming to the altar to get saved in these meetings.

3:31

And this was a vision that God had given him at the time

3:34

that he became a Christian. And he began to go on this journey of trying to discover,

3:41

how do I actually make that happen? And so he really pursued going after learning whatever was

3:48

going to get him in front of the calling on his life.

3:51

And he knew that he was supposed to be saving souls.

3:54

That was his mission, was bring people into the Kingdom of God

if he was going to have a ministry that impacted lives,

6:19

he was going to need God in his corner

6:25

It's incredible to see the scale of ministry.

6:31

There was over 15,000 ministers that were in his network

which was one of the first fully racially integrated

The scale of the miracle magazines that were coming out

7:01

on a monthly basis, these were actually going out like about

7:08

30 pages per month just detailing what had happened

7:12

in that month or the previous month and sharing healings

7:18

that were taking place because it really marked his ministry.

7:21

There was a lot of incredible miracles that transpired.

7:25

In fact, there's a few magazines here that come to mind

7:29

that really showcase some of the miracles.

7:32

So here's a tiny club feet that little toes grew on

7:37

for this baby, and that is what I would classify

7:40

as a creative miracle. And then we've got things where here's a new kneecap

7:46

for someone, and all of these were medically verified.

7:51

He and my great-grandma really felt it was incredibly important

7:56

to be able to verify things, so they would never

7:58

put anything in here. A lot of the most magnificent miracles never actually made it

8:05

into publicity because they just wanted to verify everything

8:10

and see what God was up to.

8:13

So we just see some incredible miracles.

8:17

This woman lost over 200 pounds right in the meeting,

8:22

which was quite dramatic.

8:24

And we've got somebody here, he had a severed arm,

8:29

and it completely was restored, even though the doctors

8:32

had given up on his arm being restored.

8:35

He was looking at an amputation.

- San Jose. - California, near San Francisco.

9:57

- How many miles is that? - Oh, that's about 200 or 300-odd miles.

10:01

- That's a long ways to go to church. He's come with his shoes on.

10:14

You dressed him all up, didn't you? - Yes, I did.

"I'll bring my suit because when I come back, I'm going to wear my suit back home.

(cheering) - Hallelujah.

Did you bring him a straw? Is he going to drink?

11:46

16:36

16:42

- Oh, my. I was never so excited.

16:54

Do you believe God's done something for him? How many believe the Lord's done something for him?

17:03

[Rebekah] While all of that is so special

17:05

and it marks people's lives and we can be so inspired by it,

17:10

I think we have to go back to the beginning

17:13

and realize that this doesn't scale overnight.

17:17

And when you look at...

17:21

something that is called the Tent Cathedral because it can fit 20,000 people in it,

17:28

and it often did, that's not something

17:31

that happened overnight.

17:34

In fact, it was an exceptionally expensive tent to produce,

17:40

and the Barnum & Bailey brothers actually came

17:44

and trained the staff on how to put it together because

17:46

it was just something that nobody in the world knew

17:49

how to do other than the Circus Brothers.

17:51

And when you go back to when it all started,

17:55

he was actually just in somebody's house preaching

17:59

to 24 people and then going on to the next city and then

18:03

going on to the next city, and he would do this with my great-grandma

18:08

and my grandpa and great-uncles and aunt in tow as he would go

18:15

from little town to little town.

18:17

And for years, the largest he would see is maybe a few hundred

18:23

in some of his meetings. So for years, he was just being faithful,

18:27

and they were on the breadline

18:29

trying to make it work financially.

18:32

And some of those early days, my great-grandpa was actually

18:37

staying in like a deserted cabin meant for grain with no door

18:44

on the front of it, put a cloth up and hope

18:47

it keeps some of the draft out. The sacrifice was great, and we can be inspired by the magnitude

18:56

of the ministry, but we have to also be inspired

18:58

by the sacrifice that's needed to get there.

19:00

I think my great-grandpa had such an ability to be able

19:04

to see visions.

19:07

It was like a TV screen for him. He'd see it above people in the tent when he was looking out

19:13

in the crowd, and it would be like just a screen

19:16

just scrolling for him and showing him exactly

19:19

what was going to happen. So he would lean into those visions that God was showing him

19:25

and say, "I'm seeing this.

19:28

Where are you in the room?" Or like, "There you are, come forward."

19:33

And that's one of the ways that God spoke to him specifically.

19:36

[A.A. Allen] Under this tent tonight is a woman

19:42

who is bound by a suicide demon.

19:46

Did you ever hear a voice say, "Life isn't worth living,

19:51

you might as well die, you might as well end it all?"

19:54

Wherever that woman is, I want her to get up right now

19:57

and come down here, because God's going to set you free

20:00

from this suicide devil.

20:02

By that I mean a suicide demon.

20:09

Am I talking to you? Hand me that.

20:17

None of these suicide demons never come under this tent

20:20

unless I feel it. How many believe that God does let us feel these things?

20:25

In our spirit.

20:27

Do you want God to do something for you? - Yes, I do, Brother Allen.

20:30

- What's your trouble? - Well, this thing that's been bothering me seems to tell me

20:36

there's no hope for me. That's why I tried to kill myself.

20:38

- Have you tried to kill yourself? - Three times.

20:41

- Three times?

20:46

- Have you ever seen me before? - No.

20:48

- Have you ever talked to me before? - No.

20:51

- Is this the first time you've been here? - Yes, it is.

20:53

- Why did you come tonight? - Well, I had faith that something would happen.

20:57

It just had to happen. - You want God to help you?

21:05

I see you've got scars all over your wrists.

21:09

I see where the stitches have sewn them up. My, my, you just cut that one all to pieces, didn't you?

21:20

How many believe that God can help this poor girl?

21:28

There will be 30,000 people commit suicide in America

21:31

this year. If you are not freed and loose from this spirit

21:36

that oppresses you and possesses you, domineers and controls you,

21:40

you could be next.

21:43

This type of demon spirit especially preys upon the sick

21:50

who can't get well, people seemingly that cannot be healed.

21:54

It preys upon people who have been unsuccessful

21:57

in love or matrimony.

21:59

Especially does it prey upon people

22:01

who have had financial reverses.

22:08

This particular type of demon preys upon this kind of people,

22:12

the special people with deformity or people that feel

22:15

that they're not as beautiful as others or as handsome as others.

22:20

But our God is greater than that, isn't he?

22:23

Jesus said, "Behold, I give you power over all,

22:25

the power of the devil." Is that right?

22:28

Hear me. Nothing but an unclean suicide spirit or demon would prey upon

22:32

a girl until she'd slash her wrists and cut her arms

22:35

in such a manner. Everybody under this tent stand back there.

22:39

You're going to pray with me tonight. We're believing God to set this woman free.

22:47

No need to cry anymore. God's going to do something for you tonight.

22:51

- I'm in trouble. There's no hope for me.

22:55

- Uh-huh.

22:59

Tell us again. - The thing that's had me troubled,

23:02

it keeps telling me I'm just doomed.

23:04

That's all. There's just no hope.

23:07

- She hears a voice that says you're doomed.

23:11

There is no hope. Nobody loves you.

23:14

Are you ready? Preachers, put your hands up and pray with me.

23:18

Raise your hands, everybody, and join me in prayer.

23:22

In the name of Jesus, thou foul suicide demon,

23:28

thou unclean spirit that binds this girl,

23:31

I rebuke you in Jesus' name.

23:33

I command you and I charge you.

23:36

Let her go. In the name of Jesus, come out of her.

23:40

Let her go in Jesus' name, I command. Loose her now.

23:44

Oh, God. Give her the joy of the Lord in her heart.

23:48

The joy of the Lord in her heart.

23:51

Make life worth living from this very moment

23:53

in the name of Jesus.

23:58

Put your hands up and start praising the Lord.

24:01

[Rebekah] I would say that one of the greatest parts of legacy

24:09

that my great-grandpa A.A. Allen has is his souls,

24:18

winning people for the Kingdom of God. And although there were lots of people who were healed

24:22

and it did dramatically change those families' lives

24:25

when that happened, it was bringing people into the Kingdom.

24:28

There were millions of people who were transformed

24:32

out of darkness into light and were able to sit at the throne

24:37

of Jesus because of that, and that's incredible.

24:41

But I think also he came from such a broken home

24:46

and he completely transformed his life by the power of God

24:50

because he was completely delivered of that lifestyle

24:53

and moved away from it

24:55

and just went on for the things of God. And he took all of that zeal in his brokenness

25:01

and all of that sense of rebellion

25:05

and he used it to actually transform society.

25:08

He was a major part in the civil rights movement starting,

25:12

and I think that is something that secular scholars

25:17

are very interested in is his impact

25:20

on the civil rights movement because he helped people who were of all races feel loved

25:29

and accepted and valued, and he gave them space.

25:33

He consistently loved well, and I think that as an Allen

25:43

family member, that's something that gives me great joy

25:48

to know that I have a family heritage

25:51

of just loving people well.

25:54

That's a legacy in my family, but I think seeing souls won

25:59

for the Kingdom is a legacy in its own because

26:04

we will never know the impact

26:07

that the world has had as a result of that

26:09

and the people who actually started ministry as a result

26:13

of being transformed in those meetings and going on

26:17

and transforming the world and in their corner of it.

26:22

26:24

[Gene Bailey] I hope you've been enjoying these stories, but more importantly, I hope they inspire you to step up

26:29

and be what God's called you to be.

26:31

I just want to encourage you that whatever has been

26:33

your obstacle, just take it to God,

26:36

and he'll give you wisdom, and Holy Spirit will give you the power to be everything

26:40

God has called you to be.

26:42

Remember, God is your biggest fan, and he loves you,

26:46

and he's made a way for you. In fact, he said, "I have told you these things so that

26:50

in me you may have peace.

26:53

In this world, you'll have trouble, but take heart,

26:56

I have overcome the world," John 16:33,

26:59

and let me say this. There were times in my life I kept trying,

27:04

and I think we all do this. We try to live up to a standard that we think we should be,

27:09

but the truth is God isn't looking for that.

27:12

He's looking for availability. We've heard that from everybody from A.A. Allen

27:17

to Kathryn Kuhlman. God is just looking for someone that's available to him,

27:22

so make yourself available. Don't try and get all cleaned up before you're there.

27:26

Don't worry. God will take care of that.

27:28

Let's pray. Heavenly Father, I pray for everyone watching today.

27:32

Lord, as they've seen and heard from A.A. Allen's great-granddaughter, Lord,

27:37

that they're encouraged, they're edified, they're built up, and Lord,

27:40

I pray that as this week unfolds,

27:43

before they will do things that they never thought

27:45

they would do, they'll step out in ways that they never thought

27:48

they would step out, and they'll depend on You,

27:52

and Holy Spirit lead and guide as we stand up together

27:56

to be the one to bring a light to this generation because

28:00

of what You've done for us. In Jesus' name, amen, amen.

28:04

Thank you for joining us today. We're not done.

28:07

So much more to come on Revival Radio TV.

28:10

We'll see you next week.
