"In my job as a loan officer, I get asked a lot from younger people what they need to do to put themselves in good financial shape for their future.  Some people are super lucky, with huge inheritances or great jobs set up for them as soon as they turn 18.  Most of us, not so much.  We have to basically build from the start and learn as we go.  I don’t claim to be an expert by any means, nor do I personally apply everything I’m going to talk about perfectly in my life, but I try to learn from my past mistakes as well as things I’ve picked up through my conversations with others."
