Even though we are in the days of BLACK GIRL MAGIC, we still have a long way to go.While black women are now the most educated group in the US, according to the National Center for Education Statistic In 2014 African-American women had an average median wealth of $100. A The other part of that statistic is that single black women with children have a median wealth so little that it averages out to zero. And even though From 2007-2014, the birthrate for African-American teenagers declined 44%. 1 in 4 of those teen girls will be sexually abused.For every success black women have had the past few years, we still have a lot to be angry about. We also have a lot of healing to do. So "Queens Like Us" created a place for that. A place where we can express ourselves without being told we are angry or crazy etc. Ok maybe we are a little crazy, but the rest of the world be too l if they were keeping everyone's world from imploding with little to no acknowledgment, sitting silently in our anxious and depressed states. "Queens Like Us" is the place where we let it all out, unfiltered and unapologetically black. The first step to healing is acknowledging it. We will discuss everything from hot topics to the issues we sweep under the rug, but we will also be celebrating Queens like us around the world who are killing it despite the hurdles and barriers they face.
