You know how you win the battle? Listen now.
0:05
You and I have the opportunity to walk in victory, to claim the victory,
0:10
to experience the victory that is already ours.
0:12
Because I know I have something to offer.
0:15
Go where you have never gone before.
0:17
That's what you got. Keep moving through the pain. Keep moving forward.
0:19
Music.
0:23
Do what you've never done before so you can be the woman you know yourself to
0:27
be. I live my life playing to win. I'm after something.
0:32
So much in you. I'll keep on playing.
0:36
We have the victory. Hey, Purpose Chasers. Welcome to another episode of the
0:41
Pray, Plan, Slay podcast. And I'm so happy to have you back with us today. Now, last week on the podcast,
0:49
we had with us a special guest, Jessica Williams, who taught us about surrendering our life fully to God.
0:56
And I wanted to move on with that same area, that same topic.
1:03
And I've just come back from a vacation and we spent about 10 days in France.
1:10
And while we were in France, we visited Bordeaux and we saw the vineyards.
1:15
And while we were walking through the vineyards, what kept going through my
1:19
mind is the scripture John 15,
1:22
where Jesus is talking about him being the vine and we are the branches.
1:28
And what had my mind going is how important it is for us to connect to our source.
1:38
Like that is such an important thing for us to make sure that we are connected to the source.
1:43
We are connected to the one who gives us power, the one who gives us light,
1:48
the one who gives us love, the one who gives us life, the one who gives us motivation and purpose, of course.
1:56
So I really wanted to dive into that this week.
1:59
So let's just jump straight into it.
2:04
Let me read John 15, 1 to 11, so you know exactly where we are starting before
2:10
we get into this episode. Now, John 15, 1-11, and I am reading from the New
2:15
International Version, says this.
2:19
I am the true vine, and my father is the gardener.
2:25
He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that
2:30
does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
2:36
You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
2:41
Remain in me so I also remain in you.
2:44
No branch can bear fruit by itself. self. It must remain in the vine.
2:51
I am the vine. You are the branches.
2:55
If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. Apart from me, you can do nothing.
3:03
If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers.
3:10
Such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.
3:16
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.
3:24
This is to my father's glory that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be disciples.
3:31
As the father has loved me, so have I loved you. you.
3:36
Now remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,
3:42
just as I have kept my father's commandments and remain in his love.
3:47
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be in me. What a scripture.
3:57
What a way to remind us the the importance of staying connected to the vine, right?
4:06
This scripture takes us through so many things and I'm probably not gonna be
4:10
able to touch on everything in this episode, but it talks about the pruning
4:16
process, you know, where he says,
4:19
His father cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit.
4:24
That's the pruning process. And you know what? I'm going to leave the pruning
4:27
process for a different episode.
4:30
But the importance of remaining in him.
4:34
When we were walking through the vineyards, one of the things that the tour
4:39
guide was telling us was the importance of the soil. The different types of
4:45
soil created a different type of fruit.
4:49
The fruit was the same, but the, what's the word I'm looking for?
4:53
The quality of the fruit was different due to the soil, due to the nutrients
5:00
that branch was getting. And, you know, what the importance of the vine was, is that it went down into
5:08
the root, sometimes into the stone and broke it up so that it went all the way
5:14
down and was able to collect the water.
5:16
If we think of ourselves in this scenario as plants, right? What do plants need to survive?
5:22
So we need the sunlight and we need the water. So what that is telling me is
5:26
that we need the right conditions in order for us to thrive.
5:31
And the right conditions for us come come from remaining within and staying
5:38
connected to our father, staying connected to the vine, right?
5:42
Because our father is the one that nourishes our soul.
5:46
When we are away from our source, when we are away from our power source,
5:51
just like a cell phone, after a certain amount of time.
5:55
Dies. And without us remaining in our source, remaining close to the vine, we die.
6:03
We die spiritually. We die mentally.
6:06
We die physically. So we have to make sure that we understand the importance
6:10
of staying connected to God, staying in his word, staying in worship, staying in prayer.
6:17
These are the things that are going to continue to give you that power,
6:22
that energy to keep going, to keep fighting the good fight, to keep showing
6:27
up every day, to keep your faith strong.
6:30
But if you separate yourself from that power source, from the vine,
6:35
you will find yourself disconnected from that power.
6:40
Now, in the heart of John 15, Jesus presented us with a vivid image.
6:46
He is the true vine and we are his branches.
6:51
The relationship is not just a picture of dependence, but a dynamic call to
6:58
a life that overflows with purpose, fruitfulness, and joy.
7:04
He began with, I am the true vine and my father is the gardener.
7:09
This in itself sets the stage for a profound understanding of our relationship with him, right?
7:19
Our relationship with God is rooted in love and it's tended by the divine gardener, right?
7:27
And designed for a purpose far beyond our understanding. ending.
7:31
You know, I'm currently reading the book, and if you get Purpose Mail,
7:37
you'll see what I'm reading each month, and I'd love for you guys to read with me.
7:45
But In the Garden by Dr. Anita Phillips.
7:51
I'll tag the book in the show notes. And it really dives into what it's like
7:57
and how God created our heart and our lives as a garden.
8:02
And I think that is just a good way, if you wanted to dive deeper from what
8:06
we are talking about in this episode, definitely get her book and read it some more.
8:13
But we are being tended to by the divine gardener, okay?
8:17
We are supposed to be growing, supposed to be fruitful.
8:23
And as we stay close to Jesus, he nurtures us.
8:26
And God comes through and he prunes us and he takes away things that are not
8:31
like him so that we can be the version of him that he has created us to be,
8:38
which is so very important.
8:41
So as women walking in faith and seeking to grow a deeper connection with our God.
8:49
How you may be saying, how do we ensure our life is not just connected,
8:54
but deeply rooted in Jesus?
8:58
All right. So not only do we want to just be connected to Jesus,
9:03
we want to have our roots run deep.
9:07
Like I saw in the vineyards, like they explained to us, some roots run so deep
9:13
that they can break up stone to get down to the source of the nutrients.
9:18
That's how we want ourselves to be.
9:23
Our roots in our savior, in our faith should run so deep that it can break up stone, right?
9:32
It can break up those things that would hold you back. It could break up those
9:39
negative naysayers that say words that upset you.
9:43
It can break up all the hard areas of your life to make sure that you're connected
9:50
to the source, to the nutrients.
9:54
To the flow of the living water that comes from our Lord and Savior.
9:59
So how do we ensure our life is not just connected, but deeply rooted in Jesus?
10:05
Us and how do we make sure that we draw from him everything we need to flourish?
10:10
So in order for us to make sure that we are not just connected but deeply rooted
10:17
in Jesus and that we are making sure that we are drawing from him everything we need to flourish,
10:24
here are three action steps that I'm inviting you to take to make sure that you have a deeper,
10:34
more intimate relationship with our creator so that you can make sure that you
10:41
are connected to the vine,
10:44
that you can make sure that you are available to God to be pruned,
10:50
so that you can make sure that you are being being nourished so that you bring
10:55
forth fruit in all areas of your life, right?
11:00
So let's start with action step number one.
11:04
Action step number one is intentional stillness.
11:09
So in the hustle of life, and you know how busy life gets, we got things going on, right?
11:17
We are wives. We are sisters. We are mothers. We are employees.
11:21
We are employers. yours, we are C. Life gets busy. So in the hustle of life, stillness is often the first thing we sacrifice.
11:32
Yet, it is in the quiet moments that we are able to hear God's whisper most clearly.
11:39
So I want you to start bringing stillness to the forefront of your day.
11:46
I want you to commit to a daily practice of intentional stillness.
11:53
This could be as simple as five minutes of sitting quietly before starting your
11:59
day, focusing on God's presence.
12:02
It's in these moments of stillness that we allow the nourishment from the vine
12:08
to seep into our very being, refreshing and renewing us.
12:14
So I want you to take that and implement that on a daily basis.
12:19
If you don't know where to start, like I said, set your timer or five minutes
12:25
a day before you start your day and have that still moment.
12:30
Invite God to speak to you, right?
12:33
We're here because we're building relationship with God. Yeah,
12:37
we're not just having religion.
12:41
We're building up a relationship. A relationship with God will strengthen your faith.
12:47
A relationship with God will get you through the hard times.
12:51
A relationship with God will ensure that you are being nurtured and that you
12:58
are always returning back to your source.
13:02
So as you're building your relationship with God,
13:06
invite yourself in the morning to have five minutes of stillness with him so
13:14
that you can hear from him, so that you can reconnect with him before your day starts.
13:23
Action step number two is scriptural sowing.
13:28
So while familiar, the act of embedding scripture into the fabric of our daily
13:34
lives remains one of the most potent ways that we can deepen our connection with God.
13:41
So choose a verse or passage each week to memorize, meditate on,
13:48
and mold your week around. round.
13:51
Let these words be seeds sown into your heart, watered by contemplation and
13:58
the Holy Spirit's revelation, yielding a harvest of wisdom and guidance.
14:04
Guys, get into your word.
14:08
Come on now, get into your word. In the month of April, I'm revisiting the book
14:14
of Proverbs and I'm reading through it and I'm going to be studying it.
14:18
But getting into your word is what is going to help deepen your connection.
14:27
By you memorizing that scripture, saying that scripture over yourself,
14:32
affirming that scripture throughout the day, you are reminding yourself of the goodness of God, right?
14:40
The wisdom of God, the lesson of God, the love of God, whatever that scripture is about.
14:47
Ask God to reveal to you something that you didn't even see before about that
14:52
scripture, but make sure that you are sowing scriptures into your life.
14:58
And step three, get together with your community.
15:04
And I might be screaming this bit from the mountaintops on a weekly basis,
15:08
but community, community, community.
15:11
Community is where we grow with God.
15:17
We have our relationship with him, that one-on-one relationship that is absolutely beautiful.
15:23
But what strengthens us, because remember two is better than one,
15:27
and remember iron sharpens iron, And that is what we find by having community with other people,
15:36
with friends, with family,
15:38
with other believers that will encourage and inspire you, that will,
15:43
you know, be that mirror when you need, when you need some correction,
15:47
just be that mirror, be that wisdom, right?
15:50
Be that one to pray for you and you pray for them.
15:55
So as the branches of the true vine our growth and fruitfulness are magnified in community.
16:05
So engage in or create a space, if you don't feel like you have it,
16:11
where you can be vulnerable, where you can get support, and where authentic
16:17
faith discussions flourish. flourish.
16:20
This could be a Bible study, a prayer group, a mentorship pair.
16:26
In these spaces, we not only receive, but also contribute to the growth of others,
16:33
embodying the love and support modeled by Christ.
16:39
Get in community. Honestly, if you feel like, Shante, that sounds great.
16:45
I want to be in community. I just don't have anybody.
16:49
Message me. Send me a DM.
16:52
Let's talk. Let's talk. You have me. I will be the starting person for the community.
16:59
And as you pray, God will open the door for you to meet other people, other women of faith.
17:05
But community, community, community.
17:09
So I want you to remember those three action steps because they are very important.
17:15
And I want you to start implementing them.
17:17
So, intentional stillness, scripture sowing, and community.
17:23
Now, quickly, what happens when we are disconnected from the vine?
17:30
Disconnected from the vine, disconnected from the Lord, disconnected from our
17:35
Savior, disconnected from the Holy Trinity, we will find ourselves struggling to flourish,
17:42
our purpose will be blurred, our joy diminished.
17:46
This is a reminder of the essence of our faith journey without him.
17:51
Without God, we can do nothing.
17:55
It's completely the opposite of the scripture. With God, right,
18:00
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
18:05
So without God, you can do nothing. Full stop. You can do nothing.
18:11
Yeah, you may be doing things, but the things you're doing aren't what you're
18:15
called to do. So they're not flourishing. They're not bearing fruit.
18:18
So we must stay connected to him. In him, we find our strength.
18:24
We find our purpose and we find our joy.
18:27
Our connection to the vine isn't just about what we receive. seed.
18:32
It's also what we give and the beauty of what we bring to the world through
18:39
our faith-filled lives. So as we draw today's conversation to a close, I want to invite you to reflect
18:46
on your journey with the true vine.
18:50
Are there areas of your life that need more of his life-giving presence?
18:55
How can you nurture your connection to ensure you're not just surviving,
19:02
but thriving in his purpose for you?
19:06
Purpose chasers, I want you to really think about what we've talked about today.
19:11
May your roots go deep into the soil of God's marvelous love.
19:15
And may you bear fruit that enriches the world around you.
19:20
Before we go, let's pray. Dear Heavenly Father.
19:26
In this quiet sanctity of your presence, we, your daughters,
19:32
come before you with hearts open wide, seeking to draw nearer to the source
19:38
of our life and strength. You are the true vine, and we are humbly grateful to be your branches,
19:49
connected to you, drawing sustenance purpose
19:53
and vitality from your unending love
19:56
and grace lord we ask for
19:59
the courage to embrace the stillness to find
20:03
in those silent moments a profound connection with you that nourishes our souls
20:10
in the hustle of life help us carve out sacred spaces of quietude where we can
20:18
hear your gentle whispers guiding us,
20:22
encouraging us, and reminding us of your steadfast presence.
20:28
Grant us the wisdom to sow your word deep within our hearts,
20:32
that it may take root and flourish, transforming our minds, guiding our steps,
20:39
and embracing us to overcome. May your scripture be be the seeds that grow into the bountiful harvest of faith,
20:48
hope, and love in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
20:53
Bless us with authentic communities, Lord, spaces of vulnerability.
21:00
Support, and genuine connection. In these gatherings of your people, let us both give and receive encouragement, wisdom, and strength.
21:10
Forge us into a network of believers who support one another in love,
21:15
embodying the unity and diversity of your kingdom here on earth.
21:23
In a moment of doubt or disconnection, remind us of your essential need to remain grafted to you.
21:31
Rekindle our passion for your presence.
21:34
Refresh our spirits with your joy and renew our minds with your peace.
21:40
Let us not wander far from your side, but draw us ever closer,
21:46
deepening our dependence on you for every need, every decision, and every desire.
21:54
Father, we pray for those among us seeking to discover their purpose,
22:00
to understand their place in your grand design.
22:05
Open their eyes to see the beauty of a life lived in connection with you, the true vine.
22:12
Eliminate their paths with your wisdom and fill their hearts with love that
22:19
they might bear fruit that glorifies your name.
22:22
As we move forward, may we do
22:25
so with the confidence of your love and the assurance of your gratitude.
22:31
Let our lives be a testament to the transformative power of remaining in you.
22:38
May we flourish in faith, abound in hope, and overflow with love,
22:44
bearing fruit that endures and testifies to your goodness and grace.
22:49
In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
