1:50

honored to have a beautiful

1:54

friend of mine that I'm honored

1:54

to call her friend. She is Kat

1:58

Martinelli. She is a pinup

1:58

model. She was in the pins

2:01

calendar 2021 Miss March I was

2:01

so honored to have her on there.

2:06

She is a hairstylist, a salon ER

2:06

and a salon owner of the beauty

2:10

parlor in Orlando. How are you?

2:15

Hi Pinup Miami. I am

2:15

fabulous. Thank you so much for

2:19

having me on your podcast. I am

2:19

truly honored.

2:24

So am I for everyone that's out

2:24

there. You have to make sure

2:26

that you follow her on Instagram

2:26

at the pinup kitty cat. And at

2:31

the ads cat that bombshell

2:31

beautician also have her links

2:35

down below how so how is it

2:35

being a beautician during these

2:40

crazy times the last year you

2:40

have your own salon? I mean,

2:44

yeah, you're right. It has been

2:44

crazy, just crazy, crazy. People

2:49

have been coloring their own

2:49

hair at home and cutting their

2:51

own hair home. So that's been a

2:51

lot of fun fixing, fixing those

2:55

DIY messes. You know, but we're

2:55

just you know, learning how to

3:00

pivot just like we all are

3:00

trying to navigate during this

3:04

crazy panorama time. And how in

3:04

the salon Are you able, because

3:10

we've all gone through funks I'm

3:10

pretty sure you've been able to

3:13

like make over a girl to make

3:13

her feel beautiful. Have you had

3:16

any of those experiences doesn't

3:16

have to be during the time of

3:19

COVID it could be any time. You

3:19

know, how does that impact you?

3:22

And how do you see that that

3:22

impacts women going to the

3:25

salon. Oh my god, doing a big makeover

3:27

is like that's my favorite.

3:31

That's just that's what drives

3:31

me to continue to keep going to

3:34

work every single day. I'd say

3:34

my my favorite girls are the

3:38

ones that struggle with thinning

3:38

hair. And I can give them like

3:42

gorgeous make over a fresh

3:42

haircut color, add some

3:46

extensions, and whenever they

3:46

get those little those little

3:50

tears of joy just like Yes, yes,

3:50

I'm doing what I'm supposed to

3:55

be doing. I'm

3:56

helping people. So those are you know, hands down

3:57

the absolute best.

4:00

How important

4:00

do you feel being able to style

4:04

how you like affects the

4:04

personality? Or your self? ego?

4:09

Yes. Ego self esteem.

4:15

Yeah, let's keep the ego in check there. Yeah, for sure.

4:17

Um,

4:17

so see, I mean, I mean, I mean, think about it,

4:18

think like think about the days

4:22

that were unpinned and, you

4:22

know, not you know, not putting

4:26

our best foot forward for

4:26

whatever reasons, then, you

4:29

know, you definitely feel a

4:29

different way than you know,

4:32

taking the time to get ready, do

4:32

your hair, do your makeup, put

4:36

on your your best dressed and

4:36

that absolutely fuels all your

4:42

self esteem and your self worth

4:42

and in my opinion, you know,

4:47

that sounds very vain and

4:47

shallow but that's that society

4:51

today. That is that's what we're

4:51

where we're at in the world

4:58

looks and it's

4:58

really Nice that nowadays like

5:01

in modern times, it's not 100%

5:01

perfect, but we're able to do

5:05

what we want with our hair and

5:05

not be like, told, oh no, you

5:11

have to wear brown or natural

5:11

hair colors like now it's being

5:13

more accepting. Do you notice

5:13

that more hair color more

5:16

colorful hair colors coming

5:16

through your chair?

5:20

Oh my god, absolutely Miami. I mean, I mean,

5:22

I've been doing hair for, like

5:22

you said 15 years and even even

5:26

in the last year, I've noticed

5:26

an uptick, even. I mean, it's

5:30

been crazy. I feel like we've

5:30

advanced so far in such a short

5:36

time period. Um, honestly, most

5:36

of my clients in Orlando are

5:42

getting the vintage styles with

5:42

a fashion color, you know,

5:45

looking just like how you and I

5:45

look on a daily basis. So that's

5:49

been really really cool to, you

5:49

know, help people kind of come

5:53

out of their shell or try to try

5:53

vintage for the first time try

5:56

you know, pin up hairstyle. It's

5:56

just, it's amazing.

6:01

Oh, and by the

6:01

way, I love your logo for your

6:03

salon.

6:06

Thank you so much. That

6:06

was done by another pen up out

6:11

in California. Her name is Katie

6:11

cabana and she is just a cutie

6:15

pie. She made my logo right

6:15

before the pandemic and it just

6:19

makes me so happy. I will get

6:19

her tattooed on me one day

6:23

because I just think it's so cute as

6:26

it is to truly

6:26

identify style, your style. And

6:31

you know, the beauty part of the

6:31

way is all set up. It's just

6:35

perfect. And I can tell when

6:35

somebody sees it. They know what

6:37

they're going into when they're

6:37

going to your salon. You know,

6:40

yeah, and I don't know if you know this Miami if you've looked

6:42

closely at it, but the little

6:45

flower that the girl has in her

6:45

hair and the logo is a is a Mary

6:48

Blair inspired flower. And I was

6:48

like, just need this for me.

6:56

And if you

6:56

guys are watching on YouTube,

6:59

the back of her room she had you

6:59

have the old like Walt Disney

7:03

World. It's great jail, like

7:03

super old school for my husband.

7:10

Oh, yeah, I

7:10

got it all. And Madame liotta is over there. And

7:12

but yeah, the map is true

7:16

vintage and then the two

7:16

pictures on the side are picked

7:20

him up at Disney Springs last

7:20

year. Yeah, I love this old map.

7:24

So much.

7:25

So beautiful,

7:25

beautiful. And it has so much

7:28

history. Just like the pinup

7:28

community, you know, the pinup

7:32

community? You could it ranges

7:32

in vintage repro. You know, you

7:37

there's so many things out

7:37

there. And lately, well, I've

7:41

noticed an increase, especially

7:41

on tic toc people that I guess

7:45

are setting what pinup should be

7:45

gatekeeping you know i for this.

7:52

I looked up gatekeeping because

7:52

I wanted to get the real

7:54

definition on gatekeeping.

7:54

Right. So gatekeeping is the

7:58

activity of controlling and

7:58

usually limiting general access

8:02

to something. In this case, I

8:02

feel like when it comes to the

8:06

pinup world is telling someone

8:06

you know, you can't do that.

8:09

Because that's not pin up or

8:09

vintage. So I've seen girls

8:14

online post up, especially when

8:14

they just get started. I'm sure

8:17

you've heard comments with girls

8:17

going in the salon to get

8:20

started that like, Oh, I was

8:20

told that I can't have pointy

8:23

nails because that's not

8:23

vintage. I mean, you know, but

8:27

there are people that are so

8:27

strict on vintage and their

8:29

gatekeeping say, Oh, well, you

8:29

can't be part of this community

8:32

because your nails or you can't

8:32

be part. Have you ever witnessed

8:35

this?

8:39

You know, I just had

8:39

someone tell me at the salon the

8:43

other day that she won't wear

8:43

polyester because it wasn't in

8:48

fashion. You know, for her

8:48

favorite time period that she

8:52

wanted to dress it and you know

8:52

what, honestly, I was like,

8:55

that's dedication. That is

8:55

that's amazing. Like, that's

8:59

amazing that you took the time

8:59

to really learn the history of

9:02

it, but we're in 2021 babe,

9:02

like, you don't, you don't have

9:06

to not wear polyester like so.

9:06

It's such a I don't know. And I

9:14

also I also feel like the whole

9:14

you know, oh, you dress 50s you

9:18

can only dress 50s now if I feel

9:18

like dressing 60s 70s 80s

9:22

modern, like whatever I feel

9:22

like that day and I'm going to

9:25

dress up and I'm going to get

9:25

dressed up for me that day. I'm

9:29

going to get dressed up for what

9:29

makes me feel happy. And

9:31

dressing vintage does make me

9:31

feel happy almost every single

9:34

day. But on those days. Hey, I'm

9:34

feeling a little sassy. I want

9:37

to wear my hair like a shag or

9:37

doodle ball. 80s crazy.

9:41

I'm going to do that too. And,

9:41

and I do.

9:45

Yes, absolutely. That's what

9:45

that's where I feel like the

9:49

gatekeeping kind of just just

9:49

goes one step too far. Like,

9:54

don't let people be whatever

9:54

they want to be whatever makes

9:59

them happy. They're not hurting

9:59

anybody else.

10:02

That's your

10:02

lady in the salon. She said she

10:05

won't wear polyester. I

10:05

appreciate that. That's her

10:08

decision. Because Yeah, you're

10:08

right. That's the whole thing

10:11

for her. But that's

10:12

dedication.

10:13

If she were to

10:13

say, if she had another client

10:15

be like, Oh, well, if she was in

10:15

your salon, and she looked to

10:19

your right and saw another girl

10:19

on vintage and said, Oh, that's

10:22

not polyester, you know, that's

10:22

a different kind of, that's like

10:26

negativity and saying, Okay,

10:26

then you're saying that girl's

10:29

not vintage? Because she don't

10:29

have polyester on come on? You

10:32

know, I did, I did come up with

10:32

a list of different cake

10:35

keepings that I have come across

10:35

one thing that I have fallen in

10:39

the beginning. And the reason

10:39

why I saw is that there's a lot

10:43

there. Well, I don't experience

10:43

it a lot now, but there was a

10:45

lot of fatphobia in the vintage

10:45

community. Because it's so

10:49

difficult to find, especially

10:49

with people that believe that

10:52

true vintage is the only way.

10:52

You know, it's it's really

10:56

difficult, not that there

10:56

weren't any fat people in the

10:58

50s 40s, you know, in any era,

10:58

but it is difficult to find,

11:02

because new old stock, they made

11:02

a lot of small sizes, so of

11:06

course, there's going to be a

11:06

lot more small sizes. And then,

11:11

you know, these repro companies,

11:11

they make their clothes, but

11:15

even the 5x You know, I'm not in

11:15

a modern size. I'm like an XL,

11:21

2x sometimes, and repro

11:21

sometimes I'm 4x 5x so I can't

11:25

imagine somebody that's even a

11:25

little bigger than me, you know,

11:28

having difficulties of finding

11:28

clothes

11:31

that are absolutely

11:31

extreme. I've seen that too. And

11:34

almost i've i've seen on both

11:34

ends of the spectrum, like plus

11:37

size and like petite petite

11:37

petite girls that are like, I

11:41

can't find anything to wear

11:41

because I'm an extra small. So

11:44

I've totally seen it go both

11:44

ways, too. With with plus size

11:48

and PT being afraid of oh my

11:48

gosh, I'm not in true vintage

11:52

because I didn't have anything

11:52

in my size. That was true

11:55

vintage and and then feeling

11:55

like oh gosh, like I hope these

11:58

girls except me like that needs

11:58

to go we are you're leaving that

12:02

in in last year. And we're not

12:02

bringing that with us anymore.

12:06

Absolutely.

12:06

I agree. And

12:06

then another thing that I found

12:10

in gatekeeping is the social

12:10

status of because or location.

12:16

Because if it for example, Miami

12:16

and South Florida, I'm not sure

12:20

Nando I know it's not that far

12:20

off. But it's really rare to

12:24

find the same vintage you find

12:24

here in California. You know,

12:31

it's different type of vintage.

12:31

I'm here Miami's very Art Deco.

12:35

If I were to go to an estate

12:35

sale, the clothing there would

12:37

be a little different than if I

12:37

were to go to any state sale in,

12:41

in California. And as years go

12:41

by these estates wills will have

12:46

more modern and modern goods. So

12:46

and I know we have Yeah, we have

12:53

the internet like eBay, but

12:53

that's also price gouging

12:56

because then they start saying,

12:56

oh, oh, it's so hard to find

13:00

plus size vintage, beloved

13:00

vintage, they call it so we're

13:04

gonna charge you this dress. 250

13:04

bucks, just cuz it's like a

13:08

waist 30 which is plus size, you

13:08

know? Ridiculous. I'm

13:12

exaggerating. That's

13:15

no, but that's not

13:15

okay. That's not okay.

13:18

I'll at all. When you shop vintage,

13:19

don't you find like on Etsy or

13:22

on eBay? That it's way more

13:22

expensive than like, mostly

13:26

anywhere?

13:29

Absolutely, absolutely.

13:29

I mean, just, even on Facebook

13:32

marketplace, you type in

13:32

anything vintage, and it's just

13:34

a giant price couch. You're

13:34

like, what do you

13:39

even use repro

13:39

clothing? I mean, I know that

13:44

the youth and their repro. But

13:44

you know, it's still they match

13:47

the same price or it's even more

13:47

expensive because they're not

13:51

available anywhere else. Have

13:51

you ever noticed that?

13:56

My girlfriend sent me a

13:56

poshmark link the other day and

13:58

she was like, look at this pinup

13:58

girl clothing dress. It's so

14:01

cute. And it was $5 off the

14:01

original price. Use tags off

14:05

everything. And I was like, how?

14:05

Why would any why would anybody

14:11

do that?

14:12

And I also

14:12

think it's society's fault

14:15

because we keep buying there's

14:15

other girls that do buy it. I

14:18

know you I mean I'm speaking for

14:18

myself, I'm not gonna buy that

14:21

dress that your friend sent,

14:21

even if I love it because I'm

14:24

like, Well, I'm not gonna get to

14:24

try it on I can't even return

14:27

it. What's the really the

14:27

positive side there is just an

14:31

exclusive dress that they have.

14:31

They don't sell anymore. You

14:36

know, I rather get the new maybe

14:36

a new Reaper item that's the

14:39

same cost and then you have like

14:39

fetishizing minorities you know,

14:44

just because old, um, let's say

14:44

old vintage dress has a certain

14:50

type of print. You know there's

14:50

a lot of repro or modern

14:53

designers that use that print

14:53

thinking it's okay because it

14:56

was part of a vintage garment

14:56

without thinking of the You

15:00

know, the things that it could

15:00

affect today?

15:05

Right? And it's at that

15:05

point, you're like, Who's that

15:08

fault there? Is it the company's

15:08

fault as a society as well as

15:11

our fault for still purchasing

15:11

these from these companies? You

15:13

know? Where your radar from the

15:13

artists at that point? Yeah,

15:18

where do you separate the art from the artist that helpful? And where does it become like,

15:20

Hey, we should not be supporting

15:23

this brand anymore? Because

15:23

vintage styles, not vintage

15:30

values, you know, where where

15:30

does it? Where do we cross that

15:33

line.

15:34

And I completely agree with the last one that you said of the, you

15:36

know, where, who you buy society

15:40

where they're buying, if people

15:40

really want to change, you have

15:43

to affect the company's dollars.

15:43

And I'm not talking just vintage

15:47

and anything, even makeup brands

15:47

or some makeup brands that have

15:50

a terrible worth work ethic that

15:50

is public, and people knowing

15:54

this to buy from them or a hair

15:54

brand or any type of brands. You

15:59

know, as a society, we need to

15:59

know where our money goes. So

16:02

because money talks at the end

16:02

of the day, so if they see that

16:05

everyone's giving their money to

16:05

this organization, they're just

16:08

gonna keep keep keep growing,

16:08

because they know people are

16:12

still wanting it. If people

16:12

yeah, they'll say, Oh, well, the

16:15

product is great. I don't care

16:15

what the owner does. I mean, I

16:18

don't agree with that. That

16:18

statement, what do you think of

16:22

that? Would you still

16:25

you know, the it's so

16:25

interesting that you bring this

16:28

up? Because this is something I've been talking about for weeks now, which has canceled

16:29

culture gone too far. When do

16:34

you separate the art from the

16:34

artist? When do you know I was

16:37

watching? I don't know if you

16:37

watch the the Mia Farrow

16:40

documentary on HBO, where it

16:40

talks about you know, Woody

16:43

Allen's a legit, you know,

16:43

sexual, whatever, that whole

16:47

nightmare allegations. And it's

16:47

like they discussed in the

16:51

documentary, would you continue

16:51

to watch a woody allen fair of

16:55

Woody Allen movie if you knew

16:55

that he was involved in

17:02

something horrible? Or do you

17:02

see him as a very respected

17:08

producer, director, every actor

17:08

everything that he's done? And

17:12

where do you say like, wow,

17:12

that's beautiful art? Or do you

17:16

say that is a terrible? person?

17:16

I can't do this anymore. That

17:21

it's so interesting, right?

17:23

Yeah, it's

17:23

really interesting. And I, it's

17:27

just difficult because, you

17:27

know, you, I don't really know a

17:32

lot of Woody Allen films. But

17:32

when it comes to like, let's

17:37

say, Well, I can't really, I'm

17:37

trying to think off the top of

17:41

my head. Like, I'm Kat Von D. I

17:41

know she had a makeup line. And

17:48

the drama, I think it was about

17:48

vaccinating her kids, you

17:52

correct me if I'm wrong?

17:53

Yes. No, no, I remember

17:53

I follow her along. Yeah,

17:57

it was a big deal, right.

17:58

And then it was a big

17:58

deal. And she goes, I'm not

18:01

going to vaccinate my child. And

18:01

basically kancil culture came

18:06

after her and was like, come on,

18:06

he's out. She's not going to

18:09

vaccinate her child, we're,

18:09

we're not going to support this

18:13

company anymore. And, again, it

18:13

goes back to she makes amazing

18:19

makeup. She makes amazing

18:19

tattoos, you know what, you

18:22

know. And now I just heard that

18:22

she's going to be a singer.

18:24

She's releasing an album soon.

18:24

And it's like, at what point do

18:28

you say, Hey, I don't I don't

18:28

like the artist, artists core

18:33

values. But I respect the art.

18:33

Where do you draw that line?

18:38

See it quick,

18:38

I'm quick to say like, Oh, I

18:41

won't buy for like, Okay. In my

18:41

opinion, and a, you know,

18:46

everyone's opinion is gonna be

18:46

different on this subject is I

18:49

try my best not to support I

18:49

mean, the the Kat Von D, I think

18:54

the vaccination is her own

18:54

opinion if she wants to do it or

18:57

not, in that case, and I think

18:57

we took a scandal culture took

19:01

it a little too far, because

19:01

that's somebody's personal

19:03

choice, but she did rub it into

19:03

the company's, you know,

19:08

intertwined. So that's the

19:08

problem there. She intertwined

19:12

with our company, because we can

19:12

all have our own point of views.

19:16

You know, I'm pretty sure Bill

19:16

Gates had, you know, his own

19:20

kind of like thoughts in his

19:20

head, but he doesn't publicly,

19:23

you know, put it into his, into

19:23

his company's media. You know

19:28

what I mean?

19:28

Right. So, so then it's

19:28

like, okay, at what point do I

19:33

not share so much on my social

19:33

media, where people who might

19:36

have a different opinion, might

19:36

say, Hey, we're not going to

19:40

support and a PD candidate more

19:40

because she, she has her medical

19:45

marijuana card, and I'm

19:45

completely against that. Where

19:48

do we draw that line?

19:49

there? See, that's so interesting, because that's, that's an upcoming,

19:52

we're saying this is so

19:54

interesting, so much, but it's

19:54

um, it's really is because

19:59

that's a great example. Cuz that

19:59

has grown a lot. There's even

20:02

respectable, like huge companies

20:02

that are okay with some medical

20:06

marijuana but then you still

20:06

have those people thinking,

20:09

that's terrible. That is, uh,

20:09

you know, like, wagging their

20:13

fingers. And absolutely. And I'm

20:13

sure they won't buy from that

20:19

company. So that's harming the

20:19

company. So I guess you're

20:21

right. How so as your as for

20:21

your salon. Do you ever think

20:25

about what you put online

20:25

affecting your business?

20:30

Oh, boy.

20:33

Oh, boy.

20:36

I was raised very,

20:36

very, very strict, very

20:40

religious. And so deep down

20:40

inside, it's been ingrained in

20:45

my head, you know, will this

20:45

come back to haunt me in the

20:48

end? Will this come back to bite

20:48

me in the butt way before kancil

20:51

culture was even a thing? It

20:51

was? Oh, gosh, should I should I

20:54

hide this part of myself? Should

20:54

I shall not get this tattoo.

20:58

Should I not? Should I not

20:58

reshare? This? Absolutely. I? I

21:03

absolutely. I second guessed

21:03

almost everything I post because

21:06

I go, oh, gosh, what if what if

21:06

this person doesn't like this,

21:09

but I will say Miami. In the in

21:09

the past, I would say six

21:13

months. I I felt like I started

21:13

sharing more of the things that

21:18

I am truly passionate about on

21:18

my page. And I found more of my

21:21

people, my people being like,

21:21

Yeah, I love that I support

21:26

that. I want to get my hair cut by you because

21:27

hey, we're practically the same

21:31

person and we would have so much

21:31

in common to talk about. So I've

21:34

been learning like don't don't

21:34

don't hide those parts. Because

21:38

there are so many amazing

21:38

people. Exactly. Be yourself.

21:41

There's so many amazing people

21:41

in this community. And there's

21:45

already so many people like us

21:45

and you're just gonna find your

21:47

people. The more the more that

21:47

you are yourself.

21:50

On Tick Tock.

21:50

There's a girl get I don't know

21:54

her name, but she I'm sure

21:54

you'll know her when I describe

21:57

her. She lived in Maryland and

21:57

rolls house. Oh, yes.

22:06

What's your handle? I can't remember.

22:09

I don't remember either. That's why I said I don't remember but

22:10

everyone will know when I say

22:13

she lives in Marilyn Monroe's

22:13

house. She's so

22:15

cute.

22:16

She is cute.

22:16

But there was like a couple of

22:19

like vintage pin up tick talkers

22:19

that were trying to ask her to

22:27

support another creator that she

22:27

looks the same, like a Marilyn

22:31

Monroe. She's not a look alike.

22:31

But you know, I'm just

22:35

describing her look. And people

22:35

kept coming. Like this girl, the

22:40

one that lives in Maryland and

22:40

Rose house her fans again her

22:44

fans are mostly people that are

22:44

not in the vintage community for

22:47

the most part because she has

22:47

like a million a million of

22:50

subscribers. But they went in

22:50

attack this other girl that look

22:54

like like Marilyn Monroe, and

22:54

even reported her page so much

23:01

that they blocked her into her

23:01

tic Tock and you know, she was a

23:05

big creator. It wasn't like

23:05

under a it was like in the

23:08

millions this other girl had.

23:08

Um, and all these other pinup

23:13

people came out and tagged her

23:13

saying you should come out and

23:15

tell your followers not to you

23:15

know report this other girl

23:19

She's not even doing the same

23:19

thing as you is just at the

23:22

vintage pinup community we all

23:22

are in it because we all love

23:25

it. We all have the we all know

23:25

a pinker we all know a bobby

23:28

pin. We all know of course set a

23:28

cincher a pointy bra a

23:32

petticoats. You know a Marilyn

23:32

Monroe everyone knows Marilyn

23:36

Monroe I'm sure you can name 100

23:36

blondes you know that you've

23:39

come across from gafford at your

23:39

salon to anywhere Um, so it's

23:44

really crazy that a fan base

23:44

will attack another creator

23:48

because they look like another

23:48

one and it's funny because it's

23:53

outside outside people the

23:53

vintage community attacking like

23:59

crazy.

24:00

That's so sad and

24:03

she didn't

24:03

even address Aki See, I

24:10

I need to go back. Oh,

24:10

that's so sad. You know, I want

24:14

to say like in the vintage

24:14

community that would never

24:16

happen like you know, as people

24:16

in the venture community like we

24:19

we love and support everyone and

24:19

we want everyone to be vintage

24:23

and be themselves. Do whatever

24:23

makes them happy. So I you know,

24:26

I want to say that Oh, no

24:26

Rabinovich community. But the

24:29

fact that I think it's very

24:29

interesting that they weren't

24:31

even in the vintage community,

24:31

and they were still trying to,

24:35

to tell this other girl. I mean,

24:35

honey, yeah, there's so many of

24:40

us. There's, there's plenty of

24:40

tiktoks to come around. We can

24:45

all just like Marilyn Monroe and

24:45

all go on Tick Tock sinking into

24:49

our cute little dances and

24:49

there's room for all of us. Yes,

24:53

that's ridiculous. That's so silly.

24:55

I found it so interesting. It wasn't the girl that lives in Marilyn Monroe's

24:57

fault. Cuz she didn't tell him

25:00

to go attack but I don't know, I

25:00

guess what I've been thinking in

25:04

my head was should she have

25:04

addressed it to her fans?

25:07

Because she really did hurt the

25:07

other creator? Would you have

25:12

done something like if you hear

25:12

that your fans are you know, or

25:16

your patrons or your salon are

25:16

attacking another salon? Would

25:20

you say something to the people

25:20

that go to your salon? Or would

25:23

you stay quiet about it?

25:25

I would absolutely say

25:25

something as a Connecticut girl.

25:30

I got a big mouth and I wouldn't

25:30

be like, Oh, hell Nah, not here.

25:37

So I actually did have an

25:37

incident many, many, many years

25:39

ago where one of my clients was

25:39

bullying another one of my

25:42

clients via social media. And I

25:42

felt partially responsible

25:48

because the client one texted me

25:48

and said, Hey, can I have client

25:54

two's phone number? I lost it.

25:54

And I was under the impression

25:58

that they were close friends.

25:58

And I was like, Oh my god, of

26:00

course, I will help each other.

26:00

I will help you guys out. Well,

26:03

well, client number one decided

26:03

to bully client number two the

26:07

whole time and then I proceeded

26:07

to see on social media

26:10

afterwards. And I said,

26:10

Absolutely not. This is not

26:14

okay. This is Nope. This is not

26:14

what I'm about. I'm about women

26:20

supporting women. This is

26:20

unacceptable. I apologize

26:23

profusely to my poor client

26:23

number two who got bullied? No,

26:28

I will. Absolutely. And and you

26:28

know what, and if anyone starts

26:31

gossiping or talking smack about

26:31

anybody from as Nope, not here

26:34

in front of me. I don't want to hear it.

26:37

Hmm. I'm with

26:37

you. And I think that's why we

26:39

click

26:43

since day one, I

26:43

remember the day I met you.

26:47

I loved I love

26:47

them. I love meeting you.

26:50

Another thing is, um in the

26:50

pinup world you have um

26:58

rockabilly. I think that

26:58

rockabilly I love the rockabilly

27:01

style, that's how I got into

27:01

pinup. And and I found that you

27:07

know, then you have people that

27:07

only say true vintage true

27:09

benches like I some of the

27:09

pieces I have, which I guess now

27:12

would be considered true vintage

27:12

is 80s. Does 50s or 80s, those

27:16

40s. And, yes, and you know,

27:16

some people say that that's not

27:21

even any vintage, but I'm sorry

27:21

to tell you years have passed

27:24

the sprint. That's

27:31

where I was born. So I

27:31

would call that

27:34

There you go.

27:34

And we talked about No,

27:38

I but I totally agree.

27:38

That's, that's definitely

27:40

another form of gatekeeping.

27:40

Listen, like I said, If it makes

27:44

you happy, do it. Who cares? You

27:44

want to just rockabilly, dress

27:48

rockabilly. You want to dress

27:48

goth ability, dress capability,

27:51

you want to dress true vintage

27:51

dress, true vintage, but don't

27:54

don't tell anybody else. Hey,

27:54

but just because I'm doing this,

27:57

I don't want you to do that.

28:00

Yes. Or, you

28:00

know, I actually love Okay, and

28:06

I also see girls I get mad when

28:06

this happens in pinup and non

28:10

pinup world, but like when you

28:10

go to an event, and another girl

28:13

is wearing the same dress as

28:13

you, you know, at first hit at

28:17

first Hey, you know, you're like

28:17

sheesh, I thought I was gonna be

28:20

the only one. But then you know,

28:20

then I realize it's pretty cool

28:24

that we're both dressed the same

28:24

way that happened to me at Viva

28:26

East I had this girl that we

28:26

walked in the room and we both

28:29

were wearing the pinup girl

28:29

monster dress. At first you're

28:33

like, hey, then you're like,

28:33

Damn, we look cute. Because then

28:40

you can take pictures together

28:40

and it's just shows that

28:43

everyone there has the same

28:43

mentality and same you know,

28:46

vibe. And that's what I love

28:46

even with my pencil Florida

28:49

meetups. I have ladies come and

28:49

they tell me Do I have to dress

28:53

up I want to go because I like

28:53

the girls that I met. But and

28:58

they're coming jeans and a T

28:58

shirt and they're never

29:00

discriminated everyone is

29:00

welcomed at the table at any

29:04

event, you know, and that's what

29:04

I try to promote.

29:09

You know where I see

29:09

the largest amount of

29:12

gatekeeping is when we're at

29:12

dapper day

29:16

that's when I that's when I seen

29:16

gatekeeping happening

29:19

when we're at dapper day and we

29:19

see all those little cuties that

29:22

dress in vintage for the very

29:22

first time and they're wearing

29:25

you know the dress shop from

29:25

from Disney Springs. And you

29:28

know, I hear I hear what we say

29:28

Oh god, what are they or when

29:34

people disneybound on Dr. date?

29:34

No. Let them hey, this might be

29:38

their very first time trying

29:38

this. Just let them be happy.

29:42

Let them enjoy it.

29:44

Yes, I you

29:44

know, in another podcast I was

29:48

talking to I don't know if you

29:48

follow her magic apparatus and

29:53

she she goes to dapper day. Um,

29:53

and she asked me if when I leave

29:59

South Florida Joyce have the

29:59

same vibe as the pinup community

30:02

I've created and I tell her, I

30:02

don't feel that way when I go to

30:05

dapper day because even when I

30:05

go by myself, I feel so excluded

30:09

because there's these little

30:09

cliques of like people that are

30:11

dressed very posh. And I feel

30:11

like they're untouchable. And

30:14

they just look at you weird

30:14

because like, I'm dressed like,

30:18

I'm dressed how I'm dressed or

30:18

and I have seen the people

30:22

because when I go by myself, you

30:22

go from group to group, you

30:24

know, I like to mingle on

30:24

sociable, but I'll start leaving

30:27

If I hear them say, you know,

30:27

oh, look that girl like you said

30:31

the dress shop dress, you know,

30:31

like a surgeon generic or, or,

30:35

or why she dressed the Disney

30:35

bounding when it should be, you

30:39

know, more glam and it's like,

30:39

you know, let her it's probably

30:42

her first time it's probably her

30:42

100th time. You know, she's

30:45

happy. Nobody's complaining. You

30:45

know? She's here for a reason.

30:50

We're all here

30:50

like,

30:51

absolutely, we're

30:52

there. We're there to

30:52

connect with other like minded

30:55

people just like ourselves. My

30:55

very first Saturday I just

30:58

rebounded I did a Mary Poppins

30:58

found with an old martial arts.

31:02

It looked like a wedding dress

31:02

and I did like a Mary Poppins to

31:05

Disney bound and it was the best

31:05

effort I ever went to. I had a

31:09

blast. I had no clue. There were

31:09

so many people like me. I was

31:13

like, I am home. I'm with my

31:13

family. These are my people.

31:17

So how could How could How could

31:17

I be like,

31:20

oh, they're disneybounding Oh,

31:23

and I always

31:23

cringe. I always cringe when I

31:26

hear people say the dapper day

31:26

is vintage because dapper if you

31:29

look it up dapper is just an

31:29

excluded. What is it? I looked

31:32

it up once. It's like just a

31:32

very stylish style. I'm putting

31:37

that very plainly. So no, you're

31:37

no, you're

31:40

absolutely right. So my

31:40

needs met my husband and he does

31:43

not use vintage ever, ever,

31:43

ever, ever. But he was like, Oh,

31:47

I was looking up day after day.

31:47

And I realize it's just looking

31:51

your best in any decade. You

31:51

know, I I think maybe next time

31:56

I will do in 80s but looking

31:56

vintage look and I was like

32:00

honey, I love it. Do it.

32:00

Whatever you want to do. So

32:03

guess what? I'll be looking I'll

32:03

50s or whatever. I feel like

32:06

we're on that day. And my honey

32:06

is gonna be wearing 80s Let's do

32:09

it. Who cares? Right?

32:11

Yeah, I have a

32:11

I bought a dress literally last

32:14

week. I'm not going to the April

32:14

dapper day, but I'm hoping to go

32:17

to the fall one and I bought a

32:17

gown that is modern, but I'm

32:21

wearing it to dapper day cuz it

32:21

looks funky.

32:24

Oh, I cannot wait. I

32:24

cannot wait.

32:27

And that's an

32:27

Yeah, I buy dresses early in

32:31

advance and keep them for

32:31

special location. Oh, yes,

32:35

exactly.

32:36

I picked out my spring

32:36

dapper day dress in 2019. So

32:44

you're ready.

32:44

And then your hobbies gonna be

32:46

all 80s you guys could do. Tick

32:46

Tock traveling and time. So

32:55

keep your eyes peeled for that.

33:00

And even with the internet, you have gatekeeping like I said on eBay

33:01

people gouging prices on you

33:05

know, I used to be able I have a

33:05

huge hat collection. It's all

33:09

shelving on top here. And I used

33:09

to be able to buy really

33:13

affordable vintage hats even in

33:13

bulk now. It's like expensive

33:20

even on eBay or goodwill, you

33:20

know, and I blame the Pyrex

33:24

lady. I don't know if you ever

33:24

heard of this. You could

33:27

actually you know, tell me on

33:27

goodwill for those who don't

33:31

know, on goodwill, you could go

33:31

to Goodwill calm and they do

33:33

have a web auction for like some

33:33

some items. And it used to be

33:41

super cheap to get on goodwill

33:41

because nobody knew about it.

33:44

But then there was this one lady

33:44

that there was a Pyrex and this

33:46

was like rock rocketed the

33:46

Pyrex, which is the looks like

33:51

Tupperware for people that don't

33:51

know, I don't know, but glass

33:54

and really pretty. Um, but she

33:54

bid so much money on some

33:59

pirates and it went back and

33:59

forth with some other other

34:02

people. And it was a ridiculous

34:02

amount of money. And that really

34:05

brought the goodwill website

34:05

like out in the streets in the

34:09

limelight, and pirates and it

34:09

just really grew that I was

34:13

like, whoa.

34:16

So what do you think that is? Do you think? Do you think that there are more people

34:17

joining the vintage community

34:21

and that's why the pricing has

34:21

gone up or do you do you think

34:26

that Tick Tock has made it more

34:26

popular? Why Why do you think

34:30

that now more than vintage is

34:30

becoming more popular?

34:35

I think it's

34:35

becoming well. True vintage is

34:39

becoming popular because of its

34:39

rarity. That's what I think I

34:44

think when these women that talk

34:44

about true vintage and they do

34:49

it in a snotty way. It's because

34:49

this is a rare brand and they

34:53

know the brand and yes, I

34:53

respect that they know the

34:56

history behind the garment

34:56

because they were really well

34:59

detailed. But it's the rarity of

34:59

it. And then knowing that

35:04

Rarity, they're exposing, you

35:04

know, by price gouging these

35:09

items, especially, you know,

35:09

like I said earlier with like

35:12

the fatphobia. Knowing that plus

35:12

size is rare, you know, I guess

35:16

it's with everything in the

35:16

world. Like if you knew pencils

35:19

were rare, of course, you know,

35:19

supply and demand, I'll charge

35:22

you 100 bucks, you know.

35:24

I mean, look at look

35:24

what happened last year, how

35:26

much did Les Paul get sold for?

35:26

Because it was it became a ray

35:31

wipes or toilet paper or

35:31

anything? So that makes sense.

35:35

But I wonder, I wonder why. I

35:35

mean, I've been dressing vintage

35:39

since I mean, well as a kid, but

35:39

for I for real started when I

35:43

was like 21. So I've been doing

35:43

this for over 10 years. And I

35:47

only feel like it's it's become

35:47

socially acceptable. Now, I

35:50

don't get asked why I'm wearing

35:50

a costume when I go on public

35:53

now. And I'm like, Why now? Why

35:53

now?

35:57

I think again,

35:57

it's more popular and I think

35:59

the accessibility with the repro

35:59

brands because there's way more

36:03

nicer Ribeiro brands then even

36:03

five years like 10 years ago

36:09

because I mean, when I first

36:09

started I worked at Bettie Page

36:12

clothing and then it turned into

36:12

Tatiana, and then you had pinup

36:15

girl clothing and now you have

36:15

so many indie brands and so many

36:19

people making their own clothes

36:19

and I am part of the making your

36:23

own clothes. But and I really

36:23

love making your own clothes

36:28

because then you could custom make it to your body and have fun and get to know yourself and

36:30

what you want basing it off my

36:34

you know vintage items with a

36:34

modern twist just like this

36:37

podcast.

36:40

I love it. I love it so much but

36:41

I also think it's because there's so much variety and I know whenever

36:43

Greece comes up I mean I have a

36:47

love hate relationship with the

36:47

movie grease. I don't know if

36:51

you feel the same way but I love

36:51

the movie grease,

36:54

grease.

36:55

I spent love

36:55

hate love hate you have the love

37:02

of you know wary of watching

37:02

grease because it's so much fun.

37:06

But then whenever there's a

37:06

grease event and maybe it's for

37:09

me because I always get asked to

37:09

host like when the drive thru

37:12

things were happening the drive

37:12

in theaters, they would reach

37:16

out to have me host the night

37:16

and I'd be like why is this the

37:19

most stereotypical but I think

37:19

it's because you know, I feel

37:23

like it's a stereotypical Avenue

37:23

but at the same time it's

37:26

spreading awareness of a culture

37:26

that I love so that's why I say

37:29

I'm always like in between of

37:29

like a love hate because I love

37:32

it. But then I'm like oh it's so

37:32

stereotypical that if I bring

37:36

this you know first timers in

37:36

they're gonna think that this is

37:38

all it is you know, but there's

37:38

so much more so that's why

37:42

absolutely but but look at all

37:42

this but

37:45

look at all the stuff

37:45

that you do outside of that all

37:48

the events that you put on with

37:48

you know your pinned events or

37:51

the pin ups at the zoo event

37:51

like I mean your your

37:54

newsletters are amazing on first

37:54

on like how like, how does she

38:01

have time to plan all this? This

38:01

is amazing. And you know, it's

38:06

just so beautiful. I love

38:06

getting your emails you're

38:08

literally on my little my little

38:08

favorite so I get a notification

38:11

every time I get one of your

38:11

emails and I've just I truly I'm

38:14

truly inspired because I think

38:14

you are doing such amazing

38:18

things for the vintage community

38:18

especially in Florida. I tell

38:22

almost all my clients I'm like

38:22

you know, Pinup Miami. If you

38:25

don't you should because if you

38:25

want to know what's going on in

38:27

Florida, that's who you're gonna

38:27

hear about it from.

38:31

Oh, thank you.

38:31

Yeah, I love my newsletters. I I

38:35

think I do everything because I

38:35

scheduled myself. But on the

38:39

newsletters like recently, I had

38:39

good feedback in the bottom I

38:43

put a little nice little vintage

38:43

comic in the bottom. If you go

38:47

all the way to the bottom of my

38:47

newsletters. It's so cute. I

38:50

love it. It is so cool. I love

38:50

it so much. I want to keep it

38:54

special for those people that

38:54

clicked subscribe on my

38:57

newsletter, you know, I got to

38:57

keep it fresh and I get you get

39:01

to know exclusive events.

39:01

There's one exclusive event on

39:03

there if you're on my

39:03

newsletter, so make sure to sign

39:06

up on my newsletter at Miss

39:06

Pinup Miami calm, just saying

39:10

it's for South Florida. There'll

39:10

be more. And the one last thing

39:15

I wanted to ask you about is

39:15

touch upon something you said

39:18

earlier of, you know we're not

39:18

you know, we have to normalize

39:23

not being a pinup every day

39:23

because it's like normal, normal

39:28

life. You know, even if you're

39:28

like into the modern fashion,

39:32

you don't dress up modern

39:32

fashion every day. You also have

39:35

your regular days even to work

39:35

out. I feel like there's

39:38

something of that pressure

39:38

themselves to wear makeup and

39:40

look a certain way to sweat it

39:40

out. How do you feel about that?

39:48

Absolutely. I feel G is where do I even

39:48

begin with this? I feel so I am

39:54

someone that suffers with

39:54

chronic depression. So I feel a

40:00

certain way about, oh my gosh, I

40:00

don't have the energy to get

40:04

dressed up today, I don't have

40:04

the energy do my hair makeup

40:06

today, man, I am disappointing

40:06

myself, man, I'm disappointing.

40:11

Whatever content I could be

40:11

creating today or whatever it

40:14

may be. So I guess I feel

40:14

there's so much pressure to look

40:20

a certain way every single day.

40:20

And Instagram and social media

40:24

makes that pressure. So much

40:24

worse. And something I've been

40:30

trying to focus on my, my social

40:30

media presence is, Hey, if

40:36

you're struggling, first of all,

40:36

reach out to me, because I'd

40:39

love to struggle with you. But

40:39

secondly, it's, we're human. And

40:45

especially now during COVID

40:45

life, like, it's hard. It's hard

40:50

to get through every single day

40:50

and every single week and every

40:53

single month. So be kind to

40:53

yourself, be kind to your future

40:57

self. If you don't have the

40:57

energy to get dressed up and up

41:00

every single day. Don't get keep

41:00

yourself. Don't put that extra

41:05

added pressure on yourself. If

41:05

you want to go work out with not

41:10

an ounce of makeup with with

41:10

last night's on rerolled set,

41:16

then go work out if you want to,

41:16

you know even sometimes I

41:19

struggle when I'm adding to the

41:19

salon and I think oh my gosh,

41:24

who are my clients today? Oh,

41:24

well, I have some gorgeous pinup

41:28

babes coming in to get their

41:28

hair done today. Let me make

41:30

sure I dress extra cute to

41:30

impress them.

41:34

Hmm.

41:35

And then I think know

41:35

what, just be yourself because

41:39

they're gonna love you regardless.

41:44

And I just feel

41:49

just don't put that

41:49

extra pressure on yourself.

41:52

Just be yourself.

41:55

Like I am for

41:55

the podcast, for example, it's

41:58

probably the most laid back look

41:58

I have because what I love about

42:03

the internet is that I know I

42:03

put this on my YouTube but I

42:06

don't do the back of my hair.

42:06

It's in like a little messy bun

42:09

in the back. I do a little roll.

42:09

You know, I try to keep it

42:13

simple. And since I wear my

42:13

glasses since I need the screen,

42:16

I don't need to wear lashes or

42:16

anything extra. Yeah, because I

42:24

scheduled myself to record my

42:24

podcast and I do it after a long

42:28

work day. So when I get home,

42:28

you know I can't wear my calf

42:31

tan or colorful dresses. I do

42:31

have like a semi uniform, which

42:35

I'm sure a lot of people have a

42:35

certain way at their jobs. So I

42:39

just switch on and put my comfy

42:39

caftan and flower messy bone in

42:43

the backseat. So

42:46

that's what we call movie magic.

42:51

Movie Magic

42:51

and little poopy roller podcast,

42:53

podcast magic.

42:56

It's the

42:56

pinned magic boy. But you are so

43:01

right. I think if people get

43:01

even on like the first even the

43:04

first example I gave on here

43:04

about the girls nails not being

43:08

appropriate. Like what if like

43:08

it was just playing like, you

43:12

know, the girl didn't get her

43:12

nails done or you know, don't

43:15

judge her like you said everyone

43:15

is going through. Everyone's

43:18

going through a difficult.

43:20

We're all even rolling right now.

43:22

Yes, I don't even have my nails

43:27

in so long.

43:29

And I haven't

43:29

done my eyebrows. I put some

43:31

foundation on. But you know that

43:31

it's the truth and like I was a

43:37

victim. And I know I had a

43:37

hairstylist two weeks ago on the

43:40

show. And now I have another one

43:40

but I'll confess to you that I

43:45

have dyed my own hair and cut my

43:45

own hair during this time. Um

43:51

but I have to get it fixed

43:51

because I can't all Miami come

43:54

to Orlando. I'll

43:55

help you.

43:57

If you had yellow hair, you know.

44:00

I love you though.

44:02

Thank you. I'm

44:02

gonna ask you a couple of

44:06

questions from online. So really

44:06

quick. How did you get into

44:13

pinup?

44:15

Okay, so, oh, my father

44:15

has a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. So I

44:23

grew up going to car shows with

44:23

my family and my mom sewed. And

44:30

so we would make like little

44:30

poodle skirts together and we go

44:33

to the car shows and I just

44:33

would have so much fun riding

44:38

around on my dad's Bel Air. So

44:38

fast forward. You know, I would

44:44

always listen to those 50s

44:44

cassettes 50s 60s Classic hits

44:49

on cassette, I remember. And

44:49

then so fast forward a few years

44:53

and then I you know, it was 2009

44:53

everyone was emo or so Or golf.

45:01

And I was like, that's me. I'm

45:01

going to be a super emo kid for

45:04

the rest of my life. And then I

45:04

was like, you know what I told

45:07

them that this is sustainable.

45:07

So then I started dressing I

45:11

actually started dressing

45:11

rockabilly, just like you said,

45:14

I think it's the perfect gateway

45:14

especially in between those two

45:17

of like the emo scene kind of

45:17

punky I love that I love that

45:21

like punky vintage vibe. So then

45:21

I started dressing more true

45:27

vintage, and that has kind of

45:27

evolved over the years. Like, I

45:29

truly consider myself a Disney

45:29

pinup. Like if there's a Dhanraj

45:34

that's what I want to be,

45:36

I think

45:36

perfectly describes you

45:42

that that's me. That's

45:42

what I want to be known for. Um,

45:46

so yeah, and then I want

45:48

to animate you

45:48

into a Disney Princess, you

45:51

know, that would be a

45:54

Yes, please. And then I

45:54

decided to just reinvent myself.

45:57

I was like, you know, like,

45:57

going back to what you're saying

45:59

with, you know, thinking of how

45:59

people perceive me as a

46:02

professional and I started

46:02

thinking, I you know, I came

46:05

from a very small conservative

46:05

town. And I was like, Oh, I

46:10

don't think people are gonna

46:10

really like this like super

46:14

tattooed super punky emo girl.

46:14

So I saw vintage and pinup as an

46:21

alternative lifestyle that was

46:21

classic. That was socially

46:25

acceptable that people looked up

46:25

to people respected. And that's

46:32

that's what fully sent it for me

46:32

that I was like, This is This

46:36

feels good. This feels like

46:36

home. This just feels like me.

46:41

And it's

46:41

perfect. Love you. What has been

46:43

the most difficult thing about

46:43

owning a salon?

46:48

Everything.

46:50

Everything.

46:52

Everything. The COVID COVID has been the

46:53

worst part.

47:00

Um, ah,

47:04

let me think about that

47:04

for a second was the hardest

47:06

thing about owning a salon,

47:07

or was there you know, I think this will be fun. Have you had any really

47:08

difficult clients? Or have you

47:11

had any clients that just stare

47:11

at you when you shampoo their

47:13

hair? I mean.

47:17

So my first job in the

47:17

salon was as a shampoo girl.

47:19

That's all I did all day long. And yes,

47:21

there's

47:22

awkward and that people

47:22

start moaning and Oh, god,

47:26

that's just so No, please don't

47:26

do that. Just close your eyes

47:29

and relax, please. Because

47:29

that's, that's my time to

47:32

meditate. And reground myself

47:32

for the days when I'm

47:35

shampooing, I just kind of zone

47:35

out and I'm like, this is this

47:38

is relaxing for me. So should be

47:38

relaxing for you as well.

47:44

Good to know, I never know what to do. I'm like, Do I look at her? Do I

47:45

look at the ceiling? I'm telling

47:49

me? No, no, no.

47:51

Just close your eyes,

47:51

close your eyes and relax. My

47:55

whole thing in the salon is the

47:55

experience. I want to pamper

47:59

you. I want to tell you the

47:59

prettiest person in the whole

48:01

world. I want to give you a full

48:01

makeover. I want to make you cry

48:04

when you leave happy tears. So

48:04

part of that is closing your

48:08

eyes getting a deep conditioning

48:08

mask getting that hot towel on

48:12

and just

48:12

relaxing

48:12

finding yours then you need to

48:15

do like they do at Disney that

48:15

they sprinkle pixie dust at the

48:19

end of your service.

48:22

I would love to but now

48:25

often I hear pixie dust I guess please on the air.

48:33

The last

48:33

question I have for you is did

48:35

you come across any difficulties

48:35

of being a pinup model in the

48:39

modeling world?

48:42

I'm going to say not

48:42

yet. are going to say no. I'm

48:46

going to say no, because I'm

48:46

going to speak that into the

48:50

future and say that that will

48:50

never happen. I did have a weird

48:54

photographer a many many years

48:54

ago, but I wasn't doing pin up

48:58

then that was still in my scene

48:58

phase. Um, I would say the

49:02

weirdest thing that happened. I

49:02

was I was trying to do the

49:06

suicide girl thing for a hot

49:06

second. So I was taking like

49:09

some some sexy pics and had a

49:09

weird photographer that was like

49:14

just keep taking your clothes

49:14

off and I was like Absolutely

49:17

not. My dad's a pastor he this I

49:17

cannot do. The weirdest thing

49:23

that's happened lately on a

49:23

photoshoot is and maybe it goes

49:27

back to gatekeeping actually

49:27

just going full circle is having

49:31

other pinups in the room. Be

49:31

like don't pose that way pose

49:34

this way. And I'm like, I've

49:34

been doing this for 10 years. So

49:38

if I don't know what I'm doing

49:38

by now, I shouldn't still be in

49:42

magazines. Correct.

49:46

So right.

49:46

That's why when we did the

49:48

calendar, I never tell the girls

49:48

No I do suggest you know because

49:52

I do have going in there I

49:52

already have a dream pose for

49:55

the for the calendar but we

49:55

always play around you know you

49:58

were there for a while. We

49:58

pulled I never said no cat. No.

50:04

But yeah, no, I oh my

50:04

gosh, I will shoot with you

50:06

every single day for the rest of

50:06

my life that doing that shoot

50:09

for the for the pin calendar was

50:09

so much fun and it was during

50:12

COVID and I felt so safe and I

50:12

just I loved the whole thing

50:16

minus remember when I tripped

50:16

and rip my dress? Yeah, it was

50:20

horrible.

50:21

But you My mind is that.

50:23

But it was such a fun

50:23

day. No, I had a great, amazing

50:27

time with you and your

50:27

photographers and the people

50:30

that brought in the cars

50:30

everyone was amazing. No, I

50:32

actually did a shoot the year

50:32

prior and someone was like no

50:37

don't don't do that pose this

50:37

way and it just made me second

50:41

guess myself and it's like oh,

50:41

have I not have I not been

50:45

posing the right way this whole

50:45

time? And then I was like no cat

50:49

you know what you're doing? Just

50:49

be yourself.

50:51

Yes girl. And

50:51

again like you said full circle

50:55

Be yourself because that's how your business and you're getting your crew followers for your

50:57

business and the clients that

51:00

really understand you and will

51:00

appreciate your services and who

51:03

you are. So cat, do you have any

51:03

like any into anything you want

51:08

to like put out to the universe

51:08

or talk about future plans that

51:11

you'd like to share?

51:15

Future plans, you know,

51:15

I feel like I've really been

51:19

hitting a lot of my bucket list

51:19

items lately. Like I've been

51:23

getting published a lot of

51:23

really cool magazines lately.

51:28

And I just got my first paid

51:28

what would you call it? Being an

51:34

influencer gig I just got my

51:34

first paid influencer gig and

51:38

you know, as horrible as the

51:38

pandemic has been, it's really

51:42

it's taught me to pivot and

51:42

shift and not get so much self

51:46

worth

51:46

from

51:48

my my clientele and

51:48

from my profession and finding

51:51

more hobbies and outlets for me

51:51

to just be myself and, and help

51:56

inspire other people.

51:59

You know, what was one of the things I told you when we first met be you girl,

52:00

you're gonna go far? Didn't I

52:04

say that? Along those lines?

52:04

Yeah, you did? And do you have

52:10

any questions you'd like to ask

52:10

me on the podcast?

52:14

Oh, I could ask you

52:18

a question. In

52:18

case it gets crazy.

52:22

I guess I mean, when I

52:22

got that newsletter the other

52:24

day, I was truly like, how does

52:24

she do it all, especially

52:29

someone that deals with with

52:29

depression, I look at you. And

52:31

I'm just amazed because I'm

52:31

like, Wow, she really looks like

52:36

she has her shit together. She's

52:36

got this going on and that going

52:39

on? So how do you how do you

52:39

juggle doing your pain podcast

52:43

during the calendar doing the,

52:43

you know, the Central Florida,

52:48

the South Florida chapters

52:48

planning all these events for

52:51

practically all of Florida? How

52:51

do you do it? All?

52:56

That would be

52:56

my question to you. You know,

52:58

I'm not I'm not perfect. But I

52:58

but I really tried. This is the

53:03

number one thing and this is the

53:03

same answer I give every time

53:06

it's really about scheduling. A

53:06

lot of like the newsletters and

53:11

my Sunday lives, I already have

53:11

a list of what I'm gonna do

53:14

unless somebody suggests

53:14

something, and I switch it. So

53:17

I'm prepared with that. And then

53:17

my newsletter, um, I like to

53:21

change the theme of there's a

53:21

holiday you'll notice like for

53:24

St. Patrick's Day, I changed it

53:24

still said pin stuff, but it was

53:28

green with like little graphics.

53:28

And I try to animate it a little

53:31

bit. Just to keep it interesting

53:31

because again, like I said, if

53:36

you are subscribing to my

53:36

newsletter, and that means so

53:40

much to me that you really want

53:40

to support my content. So I want

53:43

to be able to give back

53:43

something fun to look at. And

53:48

and now I have an announcement

53:48

in the bottom like if anybody

53:51

wants to put any announcements

53:51

some ad space because you know,

53:54

I'm it's growing. And it's like

53:54

a private way of letting people

53:58

know like, hey, look, I got this

53:58

I got this, you know, check it

54:01

out. You're the first to know,

54:01

and I in a best way to hit

54:05

somebody directly. And then

54:05

literally all the other events,

54:08

especially the podcast, I

54:08

scheduled a date to do the

54:10

podcast to edit the podcast. I

54:10

do with enough time in case

54:14

there's any emergencies between

54:14

guests. And for the pin South

54:19

Florida and the new chapters

54:19

that actually popped up Bruning

54:23

COVID um, amazing. Amazing.

54:23

What's interesting is pinned is

54:30

not the pin meetups is not Um,

54:30

there's not a group. You know,

54:34

it's, it's a meetup. So

54:34

literally all I need is

54:37

literally one person that's

54:37

super interested, like myself in

54:40

South Florida to be able to pick

54:40

a location and then set it all

54:45

together. And again, everyone

54:45

and everyone is welcome. So I

54:48

had people reach out to me in

54:48

Orlando that was interested

54:51

because they love the concept.

54:51

So I worked with them to try to

54:54

emphasize that that is a

54:54

structure that has worked for

54:56

four years and I love the

54:56

community and even in South

54:59

Florida. After four years, I

54:59

have a committee. And this

55:02

committee is just people that

55:02

volunteer, I've never asked him,

55:05

they came up to the plate, they

55:05

helped me there's so many

55:08

volunteers that really make

55:08

everything go and actually

55:12

appointed somebody else to run

55:12

pin South Florida, so I can help

55:15

all everyone, you know, in all

55:15

the different sections. And

55:18

hopefully, it'll grow because I

55:18

really have found that this

55:20

concept of doing the meetups

55:20

really open to to anybody. And

55:26

it's more community based. And

55:26

it's just, and then even with

55:30

the Facebook groups, I keep them

55:30

private, for the community. But

55:34

it's a way to be able to open

55:34

yourself and talk about whatever

55:38

you like or an outfit and not be

55:38

judged by other people. And I go

55:40

You're being so naive, talking

55:40

about an outfit. Well, these

55:43

people understand let me show

55:43

them this like, Bro, I got at

55:47

the thrift store for $2. You

55:47

know, so I want to be

55:50

absolutely and I love

55:50

that. Absolutely. And I love I

55:54

love that you have those pinch

55:54

chapters so much and and like I

55:57

was saying before, I literally

55:57

tell almost all my clients that

55:59

you know, want to be a part of

55:59

the community like hit up into

56:02

Miami because there won't be

56:02

gatekeeping in in your pinned

56:06

events. If you are a first timer

56:06

and you want to if you just want

56:09

to show up in jeans and a T

56:09

shirt, you can and if Pinup

56:12

Miami will embrace you and show

56:12

you show you this whole giant

56:16

world. So I love you know,

56:16

because there there are other

56:19

organizations where you know,

56:19

you have to you know, have to

56:22

show up so many times and be a

56:22

part of this and I I love what

56:26

you're doing. Keep it up.

56:30

Just I love you

56:33

helping each other and I really love it again, it's all organic. And

56:34

that's the best part. people

56:37

actually want to hang out with

56:37

me, you know. So that's, that's

56:40

the bottom? Of

56:41

course they do because

56:41

you're so amazing. Do you have a

56:45

few minutes to talk about the

56:45

ink debay thing happening in

56:47

June?

56:49

Oh, yes.

56:49

interbay Yes, I am hosting a

56:51

pinup contest that ink debate in

56:51

June. That was actually the

56:55

first gig I got hired for in the

56:55

year before this one. And I have

57:02

never done this event before.

57:02

But they asked me to host a

57:05

pinup contest. And if you sign

57:05

up at the pin contest calm, it's

57:10

$20 to register but that

57:10

includes the past for the day.

57:15

Um, so it's not like you're

57:15

paying an extra registration fee

57:18

for you know, just being in the

57:18

contest.

57:21

Is it also a Tattoo Convention.

57:24

It is a Tattoo Convention. They're also showcasing like tattoo models.

57:26

They're gonna have tattoo

57:30

booths, it's literally all

57:30

tattoos. I when I started my

57:34

pinup contest, hosting, it was

57:34

all about tattoo. tattoo

57:38

conventions, which a lot of

57:38

people find it ironic since I

57:41

have no tattoos, but it's

57:41

honestly where I got my start.

57:45

And I love the tattoo worlds

57:45

because it's accepting even if

57:48

you don't have tattoos, and

57:48

about body modification, I wear

57:52

a corset that's body

57:52

modification. So I'm part of

57:54

that culture. So there you go.

57:54

Absolutely. But yes, I'm excited

57:59

for that event. So if you want

57:59

to sign up as at the pin pinup

58:03

contest calm. So yeah, I hope

58:03

you sign up.

58:08

I think I'm going to I think I'm going to take the day off from work because I really

58:09

want to go

58:14

Alright, cat,

58:14

I want to say thank you so much

58:16

for being on my show. It means

58:16

so much to me. And thank you so

58:21

much, Miami, I

58:22

appreciate you so much.

58:22

I appreciate everything you do

58:24

for the vintage community,

58:24

especially in Florida. Like I

58:27

just think you're amazing.

58:29

Oh, next next

58:29

week, we're gonna have um, I'm

58:33

confirming the guests for next

58:33

week, but it's gonna be

58:35

something very special. And I

58:35

look forward to having you all

58:40

listening next week. Thank you

58:40

all for taking the time to

58:43

listen and make sure to like

58:43

subscribe this video, share it

58:46

with your families, share it

58:46

families Facebook pages, I would

58:50

greatly appreciate it and it's a

58:50

free way to to say thank you and

58:55

stay safe.
