It is Thursday at February ninth, and this
0:04
is people every day.
0:09
Hello again to all of you beautiful people,
0:11
especially my big brother whose birthday
0:13
it is. Happy birthday Trevor. Also
0:16
happy birthday, Michael b Jordan, another
0:18
sweet and handsome brother who was born
0:20
today. It's me, Janine Reubenstein,
0:23
with you yet again, today we've got a
0:25
behind the scenes sneak peek or, I guess,
0:27
sneak listen to some of this year's most
0:29
anticipated Super Bowl ads.
0:31
Plus, get to share my interview with You
0:33
Got Winter and Father of Three now, mister
0:35
John Legend. But on a more
0:38
somber note, now that because of death
0:40
behind thirty seven year old ABC producer,
0:42
DAX Tihara, has been revealed.
0:45
Conversations have been renewed surrounding the
0:47
tragic events the night he died. But
0:49
before we get into all of that, let's catch you
0:51
up on what's been swirling around out there in the
0:53
noots. As
0:56
we discussed on yesterday's show, plans
0:58
behind King Charles' coronation are underway,
1:01
and it appears the head of the British monarchy
1:03
has a special guest on his invite list.
1:05
Mhmm. Prince Harry. A source
1:08
tells people that despite the allegations
1:10
Prince Harry made in spare, King Charles
1:12
wants his youngest son in attendance. The
1:15
royal family has yet to make a statement regarding
1:17
the release of Harry's Telal memoir. But
1:19
a source close to the royal household revealed
1:22
the king's wishes to people saying,
1:24
quote, It is such a momentous
1:26
occasion for Charles, and he would want his
1:28
son to be at the coronation to witness it.
1:30
He would like to have Harry back in the family,
1:33
end quote, and the source continues. If
1:35
they don't sort it out, it will always be
1:37
part of the king's reign and how he has
1:39
left his family disjointed. He has
1:41
had a reputation as a distant parent,
1:44
and it would be awful for him for
1:46
that to continue. End quote. Prince
1:48
Harry has said on multiple occasions that
1:50
the door is open for reconciliation, but it
1:52
still remains to be seen if the duke
1:55
and duchess Sussex will be in attendance
1:57
for King Charles' big day on May sixth. And
1:59
don't forget, May six also happens
2:01
to be Little Archie's fourth birthday.
2:04
We will definitely be keeping tabs on this
2:06
in the magazine and at people dot com.
2:08
Moving
2:11
on to a Jeremy renter update, Evangeline
2:14
Lilly shared that she had an intense
2:16
visit with her friend as he continues to
2:18
recover from his serious snow plow accident
2:21
last month. You remember that? The Ant
2:23
Man and the Wasp Quantum Mania
2:25
actress shared with news outlets that she
2:27
was just at Renner's house the other night
2:29
and saw how he was doing amid recovery
2:31
sharing that his spirits are high.
2:33
Lilly shared that Renner, quote, has recovered
2:36
like a mofo and added,
2:38
I was like, why are you mobile? Why are
2:40
you mobile? What's happening? I expect to
2:43
sit at his bedside and hold his hand while
2:45
he mown and ground and pain and wasn't
2:47
able to move, he was wheeling himself
2:49
around laughing with his friends. It's
2:51
a miracle. A straight up miracle.
2:54
Aside from both being members of the
2:56
Avengers, renter and Lilly go back to their
2:58
time working together on the two thousand and eight film,
3:00
The Hertlocker, Lolly spoke optimistically
3:02
of how brave her friend and CoStar has been
3:05
through the ordeal, saying the experience is,
3:07
quote, what nightmares are made of?
3:09
And he lived through it and he's on the
3:11
other side now. We are certainly
3:13
glad to hear that Renner is on the men and
3:16
continue to wish him a speedy recovery.
3:18
And now let's turn our attention to the
3:20
much talked about night out that went
3:22
tragically wrong. I'm talking about
3:25
the death of a thirty seven year old ABC
3:27
producer and father of two in the eventual
3:29
arrest of his wife. What
3:36
was supposed to be an and assuming dinner
3:38
for a talented New York City producer and his
3:40
wife turned into a tragic nightmare
3:42
for family of four. Back in December,
3:44
when news dropped the DAX Tihira, executive
3:47
producer of this week on ABC, had
3:50
suddenly died. Many were shocked.
3:52
He was a doting husband and father with a full
3:54
life and booming career. And now almost
3:56
two months later, there are some new details
3:59
surrounding his untimely passing His
4:01
cause of death was recently revealed. This
4:03
on top of what he and his wife were doing
4:05
that night while their kids were left alone
4:08
is continuing to spark debate on
4:10
the dos and don'ts of parenting. Well,
4:12
here with me now is people's executive editorial
4:14
director Charlotte Triggs to take me into
4:17
what we know happen and how this has
4:19
kicked off a larger conversation. Hey, Charlotte.
4:21
Hey, Jeanine. Well, Many people
4:23
were shaken up after Dax Tahira's sudden
4:25
death, especially since it occurred two days before
4:27
Christmas. ABC News president Kim
4:30
Godwin announced in a memo with staff that
4:32
he died from a heart attack. But now
4:34
we are getting a clearer picture of what actually
4:36
happened in which it's reported that
4:38
he choked to death while
4:40
intoxicated. So Can you explain this
4:42
a little bit? And what else was going
4:44
on that night? Basically, the medical examiner
4:46
has done the official ruling, and they say
4:48
that the cause of death was an accident and
4:50
that what happened was asphyxia due
4:53
to obstruction of airway by food
4:55
ballast, which I had to Google, but that just means
4:57
a piece of food. Complicating factor
4:59
being acute alcohol intoxication. There's
5:03
wild degrees of what this could be.
5:05
Right? This could be like sitting at the table
5:07
at a steak house one, you're on your
5:09
third glass of wine and choking on a piece steak,
5:11
or this could be really having
5:13
tied one on popping like bar
5:15
nuts and choking on it. So we don't really
5:18
know, but it certainly paints a very
5:20
negative picture. The complication there
5:23
is that the wife was
5:25
subsequently arrested for having left their
5:27
two children alone. It just pays an ugly picture
5:30
because it it casts them in a negative
5:32
light as being out, being intoxicated, and
5:35
it makes it look lot more grim.
5:37
It could have very well been relatively
5:39
innocent, pure accident. You know what I mean?
5:41
And it's like but here they had
5:43
said it was a heart attack. And
5:45
now we're learning the details and the details are very
5:47
shocking. You're right. Like,
5:49
just putting intoxication there. We don't
5:51
know the level to which. You could have been, like, right
5:53
over that point eight whatever. But
5:55
let's talk about those kids. They were in New
5:57
York City staying at the
5:59
Yale Club. They left their kids
6:02
in the room to just go down
6:04
across the street. And have this
6:06
dinner. Right? And how did they try to manage
6:08
that as parents? His wife is Veronica
6:10
Terra, and they have a two year old,
6:12
who's named Sofia, and a seven month old
6:14
named Ella. So the kids went
6:16
to bed and then they
6:20
put the baby monitor on
6:23
and took it with them and watch
6:25
the video baby monitor from the
6:27
dinner. This is where, like,
6:29
all the judgment can, like, come into play.
6:31
But I guess, the the real thing is, while they
6:33
were out, he choked and she was
6:35
forced to, like, go flee to the hospital
6:37
with him, and then what would have maybe been,
6:39
like, one hour away became,
6:42
like, who knows how long away? And I guess
6:44
when she called her friend to be like, oh my god,
6:46
can you go get my kids? With a friend
6:49
asked the hotels to let her up and they wouldn't
6:51
do it. And they called the police on her So
6:53
that's how it became like a public incident.
6:56
But then there's plenty of moms shaving
6:58
going on. And by the way, moms I mean why?
7:00
Because he's dead. He's dead here anyway, but it was
7:02
partially his choice to leave the children alone.
7:04
Right? I always hate it when the mom takes the soul blame.
7:06
I just think it's not fair. I don't know. I mean, you
7:08
know, after three kids, And I
7:11
have experience leaving my
7:13
children alone. Like, how alone and at what age?
7:15
It's really subjective. Right? I put
7:17
my twins when they were babies, I put
7:19
them to bed for their afternoon
7:21
nap. I took the video monitor and
7:24
I left it on the deck where my husband
7:26
was doing yard work. And then I
7:28
walked into the street, in front of my
7:30
little house, to the block party that was
7:32
going on. And I was chatting with my
7:34
neighbors, and I was totally
7:36
mom shaped by one of my neighbors being like, don't
7:38
you have any idea where your children are? Oh, look at you.
7:40
You're look at you. I'm so I'm so happy for you
7:43
how you're so relaxed. You're not even looking at the baby
7:45
monitor or anything. And I was like, are you
7:47
serious? My husband's doing it. Like,
7:49
what is the problem? That felt okay
7:51
to me. It's like, you know, when we were talking about,
7:53
like, Is the New York City element
7:55
the element that's
7:56
different? It's the New York City element maybe
7:58
and and like the hotel element too. It's
8:00
just like you know, we've we've seen that
8:02
where, you know, kids getting kidnapped from hotels
8:05
and overseas. Yeah. The woman in here
8:07
in Portugal madeleine McCann. They
8:09
went to dinner And God knows
8:11
what the circumstances were of that
8:12
hotel, but they left the kid asleep
8:15
in the hotel, and then when they got back, she wasn't
8:17
there. Yeah. Yeah. It's just horrible.
8:19
So I think maybe just the hotel factor
8:21
of it all. It's not like, you know, like going out
8:23
to the porch or going to yard to, like, have some
8:25
wine with friends or something like
8:26
that. It's, like, Janina, have you ever left your kids alone a
8:29
minute? Well, I'm, like, doing, like, a mental inventory. It's,
8:31
like, in this summer, I took my kids to beach.
8:33
And I had to unload the luggage,
8:35
do it all by myself because my husband wasn't there,
8:38
take it upstairs, and then I had to go
8:40
park the car. And it's like, I did
8:42
leave them alone to go park the
8:43
car, and I was kinda hoping nobody was gonna be, like,
8:45
judging me because Americans love to judge. But I
8:47
don't know. Like, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
8:49
That's a factor as well too because
8:52
there are just different behaviors
8:55
for different people from different backgrounds
8:57
in different countries. You know, people
8:59
we'll leave their their babies in a stroller
9:02
park outside of a store to run-in and
9:04
say Switzerland or somewhere
9:06
else. There are just different behavioral norms
9:08
around parenting in different places.
9:10
Since we are in America, we know Americans love
9:13
to judge. Right? And if they're all about that, so
9:15
it's like, I guess you're You know what you're
9:17
working
9:17
with? Yeah. You brought up the infant. I do think the
9:19
five month old makes things tricky as
9:21
well. And there is just that fear,
9:24
like, you know, what if the cover gets over the baby's
9:26
head at that month or something? You know what I mean? Like,
9:28
I don't know. I'm not one to judge at all,
9:31
but it does do seem like a series of
9:33
wildly unfortunate events for this couple
9:35
that was just trying to let get out and possibly
9:37
just have a drink and grab a bite. There
9:39
are times where, you know,
9:41
my seven year old, they're not two in
9:43
in five months, but I'll say, Therese,
9:46
like, okay, watch your sister. You know, and I'll
9:48
I'll either run out or I'll walk the
9:50
dog or something like that around the cul de sac.
9:52
Still not in a hotel and and they're
9:54
not like teeny tiny babies, but I
9:56
guess a seven year old shouldn't be watching a two
9:58
year old, I guess. Well, people reached
10:01
out to Veronica's attorney for comment yesterday
10:03
to which There was no return.
10:06
But Veronica did speak out to Entertainment
10:08
Tonight saying that she made, quote, a
10:10
poor decision. To leave the kids
10:12
alone. She went on to say that after tax
10:14
collapsed, she, as you said, asked
10:16
a close friend and her parents to see about the kids
10:19
at the hotel, but the hotel wouldn't allow
10:21
them I mean, guess rightly so. And
10:23
still yet to be seen, like, how intoxicated
10:26
he was or they were because that's also
10:28
what's poking at the judgment
10:29
theirs. Yeah. Totally agree. Just down now.
10:32
I just think that anytime someone sees a mom
10:34
having fun, oh, they're ready to get mad
10:36
about it. Right? Don't you think?
10:38
For sure, Charlotte. I just hope
10:40
this family, you know, continues to heal
10:42
and amid all of this, and and we find out
10:45
more and paint an even clearer picture of
10:47
just what happened here. Guys,
10:49
if you want to read more about this story, head
10:51
over to our website on people dot com and Charlotte,
10:53
thanks as always for keeping it real.
10:55
And and talking to me about this. Thanks,
10:57
Jean. The
11:01

12:39
Who needs sleep? Right? So we are
12:41
back. And I'll be the first to admit I need
12:43
my beauty sleep, but it seems like lately
12:45
John Legend has been burning the candle
12:47
at both ends just In the last few
12:49
weeks, the all of me singer announced
12:52
a new album, debuted his own skincare
12:54
line, loved one, prepared for multiple
12:56
Grammy's weekend shows. Oh, and as
12:58
if that wasn't enough, he and his wife,
13:00
Chrissy Tigen, welcomed a new baby,
13:03
daughter, SD Maxine. SD
13:05
has made the alleged Tigen house a party
13:07
of five joining six year old sister Luna
13:09
and four year old brother Miles. When
13:12
I asked him about his growing family, legend
13:14
said It just feels like more love,
13:16
more joy, and more energy. Legend
13:19
said he's doing whatever he can to help out
13:21
with the new babies saying, quote, Obviously,
13:23
I can't breastfeed her, so I feel like I
13:25
should help when we use the bottle and he
13:27
joyfully added. I'm happy to change diapers
13:30
and I'm good at burping her too. And
13:32
he's also singing lullabies these
13:34
days because, of course, as
13:36
for the Egotwinners new music, It's
13:38
actually old music that he's given an
13:41
extreme makeover less than a year
13:43
after releasing his eighth studio album, Dead
13:45
Legend. Just yesterday, the RMB
13:47
superstar released Legend Solo piano
13:49
version. I got him to open up about what
13:52
inspired this latest creative undertaking.
13:54
He said, had already written the songs,
13:56
but it was fun to reimagine them. One
13:58
particularly sexy track, Honey,
14:00
which he told me is about stuff
14:02
that grown ups do. Is his favorite
14:05
new version on the album. And
14:15
the muse for most of his music remains
14:17
the same, Chrissy, who's thirty seven,
14:20
has been his wife for nine years
14:22
and his remake of his recent hit wonder
14:24
woman, for example, resonated in an
14:26
entirely different way during the recording process.
14:29
Stay. You make me wonder.
14:32
Omen. How do
14:35
you do? You're
14:38
so pissed. The modern day
14:40
crooner told me, quote, Just having
14:42
made it while my wife was pregnant and seeing
14:44
the miracle of childbirth and all that women
14:46
have to go through to bring life into the world,
14:48
makes that song especially meaningful to
14:51
me. Ugh, a sweetheart. I love his band.
14:53
Well, legend admitted that even though
14:55
he's kept a positive attitude while staying busy
14:57
on the home front, releasing new music
14:59
and starting a new skin care venture. That
15:01
doesn't mean things haven't been exhausting,
15:04
but he's not one to complain saying
15:06
I have everything I could possibly
15:08
have dreamed of. Now, it's just about
15:11
being the best artist, dad and husband
15:13
I can do. Wow. Be sure to
15:15
check out my full interview with John Legend in
15:17
this week's issue available on newsstands
15:19
everywhere tomorrow. Alright.
15:26
Who's ready for the big Re audible?
15:28
I mean, the Super Bowl? I'm sad.
15:30
My diners won't be out on the field. There's
15:33
always next year. I believe in them. But I
15:35
am excited to spend Sunday with family
15:37
and friends. And of course, there's the commercials.
15:40
People has the exclusive on a bunch of the
15:42
Super Bowl commercials, and it looks so
15:44
good you guys. Joining me now is People's
15:46
Director of Digital Specials and Futures,
15:48
Kate Hogan. Hey, Kate. Hi, Janine.
15:50
So this Sunday, we got the
15:52
Philadelphia Eagles versus the Kansas
15:54
City Chiefs. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And we got my
15:57
girl re re performing in
15:59
the halftime show. So what else
16:01
can we expect to see this
16:02
weekend? Yes. One of the big
16:04
headlines out of the game is that there are
16:06
two brothers who are going up against each other.
16:09
There's Jason Kelsey, who's a fan
16:11
favorite center for the Eagles, and his
16:13
wife, Kylie, is thirty eight weeks pregnant
16:15
and coming to the game with two o b's.
16:18
In case student goes in the labor during
16:20
the game, and he's playing against his brother, Travis
16:22
Elsie, who is a record breaking tie down
16:24
for the teacher's there's a lot of plumbery fans of
16:26
both teams actually. Like, of the Eagles, there's Miles
16:28
teller who you can see in a lot of the games.
16:31
We spoke to Kevin Hart this week who
16:33
had talked about how much winning a second
16:35
Super Bowl. And his lifetime would mean to him
16:37
as an Eagles man. We've got Meek
16:39
Mill, who one of his headphones is actually the
16:42
theme song of the Eagles this season, so
16:44
he's definitely invested. Bradley
16:46
Cooper was at their last game where they
16:48
clinched their spot in the Super Bowl,
16:50
so I wouldn't be surprised if we see him in
16:52
Arizona this weekend. And then you've got
16:54
Quinta Bronson in the whole cast of Alba Elementary
16:57
who Pay homage to the Eagles in
16:59
Philadelphia a lot in their show.
17:01
So Well, on the cheap side, you've got
17:03
our former sexiest man alive.
17:05
Call run, who also talked to people to
17:07
speak about how freaked
17:09
out nervous he is about the game this weekend and that
17:11
he won't breathe until it's over, basically. Brad
17:14
Pitt, who's been slotted wearing cheese gear
17:16
in the past, Melissa Etherigs, performed
17:18
an event for them, and Rob
17:20
Regal, who is always a cheese game,
17:22
all season long. And I will
17:24
say, you know, the teams are neither here
17:26
nor there, but I am excited. It is Black
17:28
History Month. And the fact that two black
17:30
quarterback are going head to head for the first
17:33
time Jaylen Hertz and Patrick Mahomes. I've
17:35
been loving that story line. That's never
17:37
happened before, so that's gonna be cool to watch
17:39
as well. But let's talk about
17:41
the commercials that we'll be airing.
17:43
Okay? As I mentioned earlier, people
17:45
got a lot of good exclusives. One of
17:47
them is Johnson Volta, Zach Craft,
17:50
and Donald Faison's T Mobile Commercial,
17:52
and it's such a fun throwback to Greece.
17:55
Tell me more Tell me more. One
17:57
cord's all that you need. Tell me
17:59
more. Tell me more. Don't you worry
18:01
about me.
18:03
The scraps alums, opened up
18:05
the people about working with Johnson tell us what
18:07
they said. Yeah. It turns out that Zach Braff
18:09
and Donald phase on are both huge Johnson Helps
18:11
fans. So they were both talking lot
18:13
about how starstruck they were
18:16
at first. Zach told us he actually had a welcome
18:18
back Carter lunchbox when he was a kid,
18:20
which is the reference to, a role role role
18:22
to play years ago. And
18:25
Donald Faison basically went right up to him
18:27
and started asking him questions about face
18:29
off. Actually, both of them told us that he was
18:31
so generous with his stories. He told
18:33
them a lot of behind the scenes information on
18:35
pulp fiction, on ethos and on
18:37
Greece. Well, let's talk about a commercial that
18:39
I'm already lazily, totally but
18:42
crazy excited for you guys.
18:44
Share is back. Alicia
18:46
Silverstone and Elizabethanovin are reprising
18:48
their iconic clueless roles for the
18:50
Rakuten
18:51
commercial. I used to be pretty clueless
18:53
about shopping. Among other things. Like
18:55
when I heard, I could saves by getting cash
18:57
back with
18:58
Rakuten? I was, like, as is.
19:00
How obsessed were you with this movie?
19:03
Kate. So much. Does, like, my
19:05
seen years, and it's insane
19:07
that Alicia Silverstone has not aged today.
19:10
She plays share
19:11
perfectly. Alicia is perfect
19:13
too. It's just like such a great nostalgia
19:15
moment. I know every single word to that movie.
19:18
But we also have the commercial of
19:20
Ben Stiller reprising his role as Zoolander
19:22
for Pepsi something he spoke to people
19:24
about
19:25
doing. I feel like fans, like, begging Fursleylander
19:27
to come back all the time, and he said it's always
19:29
fun to revisit that character, that anytime
19:31
he's chance to go back to Dean Zealander,
19:34
he feels this reconnection to
19:36
Derek and has such good memories of over
19:38
the years working on those movies. And
19:40
I think he's really grateful. He said that people still
19:42
want their Zeolyinder in their lives.
19:44
He represents something for people in
19:47
terms of the sweet vepidity is what
19:49
I've been so upset and very
19:50
endearing. So there's one little commercial
19:52
that people was on set for,
19:54
and that's been Aflac's Dunkin
19:57
Donuts ad. Yes, that's happening. And
19:59
Jennifer Lopez herself will even make an
20:01
appearance. I have a feeling fans will
20:03
love this
20:04
one. Right? So a few months ago, people
20:06
noticed Ben Affleck working on a Dunkin' drive
20:08
thru one day and everyone's like, what's going on.
20:10
And people got to be on the side of the commercial,
20:12
which was filmed in Boston in January. We
20:15
just next episode behind the scenes videos with
20:17
Ben. And he's on the spot at
20:19
Medford, Massachusetts Duncan
20:21
and was on the set to serve me not coffee
20:23
and donuts to people going through the drive through
20:26
and JLo was there with him. He
20:28
wore an employee uniform, complete with the
20:30
Pfizer, the America runs on Dunkin'
20:32
Start, one customer said that he even
20:34
gave them their money back and said everything was free
20:36
that day. And that he
20:38
was super funny, quick weighted, while serving
20:41
as an employee for the day. So think people
20:43
are gonna really excited to see that Boston
20:45
accent, back in action. Well, before
20:47
I let you go, I gotta ask who are
20:49
you rooting for this weekend? I think
20:52
the commercials. Is that fair? I wanna see more
20:54
good commercials. I'm an nostalgia junkie. So,
20:56
yes, I am rooting for these commercials because it sounds
20:58
like we're gonna get all of our, like, favorite moments.
21:00
Guys, the Super Bowl airs this Sunday
21:03
at six thirty PM on
21:04
Fox, Kate. It was so good to see you. Thanks for
21:06
stopping by. Thank you so much.
21:11
Last but not least, it is Black History
21:13
Month and on top of all of the incredible coverage
21:16
we highlighting black voices and role models
21:18
online and in the magazine, I wanted to
21:20
take some time to give two very special organizations
21:23
that are working to create effective change,
21:25
some love before we wrap up today's show.
21:27
Miss past weekend at The Grammys, I met Rashad
21:30
Robinson, the head of a group called Color
21:32
Of Change. They are the nation's largest
21:34
online racial justice organization and
21:36
help people respond effectively to injustice
21:39
in the world. They work with the big
21:41
decision makers in Corporations and governments
21:43
to create a more human and less hostile
21:46
world for black people and people of color
21:48
in the US. They recently worked
21:50
with the Recording Academy to create and
21:52
stick to their diversity promises and
21:54
initiatives. And it was so cool to talk with
21:57
them last weekend and see their work in action
21:59
in the entertainment world. You can learn more
22:01
about color change and how to get involved or
22:03
donate at color change dot org.
22:06
And I'd also like to shine a light on
22:08
leaders up. Leaders up is a group
22:10
that's looking to change the narrative around
22:13
the racial wealth gap in the US. The
22:15
CEO is Jeffrey Wallace, and they work
22:17
with companies and organizations to create
22:19
equal opportunities for young diverse
22:21
talents in our country. Given all
22:24
of the cutbacks and layoffs happening right now,
22:26
they are definitely a worthwhile organization
22:28
to check out. Their main goal is to show
22:30
that an anti racist economy doesn't
22:32
just serve the bipop population but
22:34
also benefits the greater economic profitability
22:37
for everyone. I could not agree
22:39
more are. So head to leaders up dot org
22:42
for more information and to show them some love
22:44
and get involved. They are a great group
22:46
of people. And with that, that's
22:48
our show for today. You
22:50
guys tomorrow is
22:52
our very last episode
22:55
of People Every Day. Be
22:57
sure to listen in as
22:59
we say goodbye and of course do
23:01
what we always do and keep you informed
23:03
and entertained with the latest news.
23:06
Enjoy the rest of your day, you guys. I'll talk to you
23:08
again tomorrow on people every day.
