Iberia and Europe are straight-jacketed to the configuration of Medieval times. Fortunately, after numerous debacles, Europe has only recently partially moved forward with the European Union, EU. (Partly after seeing the success of the US model.) However, it is stuck in first gear and is in dire need of fresh air.

Suddenly comes Catalonia, with its independence bid from Spain, equally caught in the time-tunnel of times long past. But these are just closeup, and middle-take, to the background crisis of civilization, and framing it all is the history of creation of humanity on the face of the Earth.

What’s cute about this lineup of ducks is that their sole crisis exit is the same. The cue is to transition by configuring from nation-states to people-states, and the vehicle is the University. Allow me to now explain it standing on one foot.

But before proceeding, I will include the PaRDeS, primeval common-sense, Universal ReConstitution for World Repair T-diagram upfront, though will not refer to it directly at present. This is taken up more fully in other podcast episodes which may be found in the web platforms, as well as in my webpage with pdf included to follow along.

This could very well prove to be the spring of the New World. The long-awaited ticket that Europe has been yearning for; and the whole wide world, might I add. Secession has been tried before, as recently as say, in Quebec respect to Canada, Scotland with respect to Great Britain, and Great Britain from the EU, with the successful Brexit. Why, then, not Catalonia from Spain?

But, these cases somehow lacked the specificity that universality requires. Perhaps, it’s the fact that the Spanish Constitution disallows it, on top of the love for independence of Catalans. I’m not sure, but whatever it is, it has become a white-hole of creativity that could very well turn the page of history in the III Millennium.

The Old World has reshaped itself of late, though the New World is still in budding. The Old World has gone through Reforms and Revolutions, but it’s still the same Old World. By this I’m including the Americas, Asia, Africa, and the rest, not only Europe. The present-day European nation-states are a product of the aftermath of the dissolution of past empires. Only a reconstitution could transform the Old into the New. What kind of reconstitution? You might be asking. A PaRDeS Universal ReConstitution for World Repair, nothing short of this will do the job.

The European Union has been very actively reinventing itself, almost beyond recognition, were it not that its pieces are still the same, though better bonded than previously. A further integration of Europe can only proceed swiftly, if a further dissolution of the nation-states happens concurrently.

Before the creation of the European Union, such dissolution of nation-states was not advisable, for protection was their reason of being, in the first place. That is, protection of peoples from aggression from neighboring countries, as the series of conflicts testify, up to, and including, the last world conflagration.

But, with the protection that the EU offers Europeans, a giant tent, so to speak, there is no longer any need for protection from allied surroundings. Rather, at the top of the list now comes the liberation of peoples from the strong majority agglutinating people nationality of previous times.

Yes, I am in favor of Catalonia’s independence from Spain, but, for no other reason than that it turns the page of history. The question still pending would be, what about those people, who throughout the ages, have been forced out to the point of extinction. Those that have lost their language, and whose survivors have lost their sense of identity, whose history has been passed over?

The cultural equivalent of extinction of species shouldn’t be disregarded. The richness and diversity of human expression is something worth preserving. We are still in budding trying to understand what all this might mean in the greater scheme of things.

What we are proposing herein is that the situation of Catalonia’s independence bid from Spain be made into a model of freeing a people-state from the obsolete nation-state of yesteryears. This Iberian model of integrating with people-states, in substitution of nation-states, would result in a revitalizing reconstitution of the entire European Union project.

History has it that the trick of forces is turning challenges into opportunities, and weaknesses into strengths. Of not letting a good crisis go to waste, rather, of making the most of it, by striking it while it’s hot.

Why am I even proposing that the wider University take up the challenge? Like, the Universal in the catchphrase, join the Cause and help the Movement, the PaRDeS Universal ReConstitution for World Repair. The thing is that I am not a one-man band. While I may have been cued about the underpinning notion of the primeval, original common-sense, cornerstone upon which to elevate the whole social edifice, that far from makes me have all the answers.

This is where the University comes into play, for therein labor the most knowledgeable scholars of all fields of learning. By University, I don’t mean restricting it to my alma mater, rather, start from what is closest and radiate outwards from there. This would include students, educators, teachers, instructors, professors, advisers, counselors, at all levels of education, be it Schools, Colleges, and Universities. It is like a Giga Think-Tank.

Allow me to exemplify. Like when my Canary friend Andrés asks me, how is the PaRDeS, and its brief version the Triads, going to solve the traffic problems on IH 35, or, of affordable living within the Austin city limits? What I respond is that I can only contribute with the general principle PaRDeS, of the primeval, original common-sense. That I am not a know-it-all. Too many trees, too little forest.

The devil is in the details. That the rest will be up to competent experts in the respective field of study to apply that general principle to the specificity of the particular case of interest. That is, that PaRDeS ReConstitution for World Repair would be applied by the University, to solve the topics around the globe.

Yes, but it has to start somewhere. Where better than we and here and now at Austin, deep in the heartland of Texas, where UT foretells that “What starts here, changes the world”. Or wherever we call home, that is where it needs to start. The proposed “Forum on People-States” that we are suggesting would be along the following lines of thought. What applies to me here, locally, applies there and everywhere as well, with your local city and university.

Besides, what is the ultimate source of wealth of nations, of job creation? In this knowledge-driven age, it is a no-brainer. It’s where research and teaching and learning is happening on a daily basis, namely, Schools, Colleges, and Universities. You get the idea.

The European Union has made the nation-state solution obsolete, dispensable moving forward. Actually, the founding nation-states, have gone from founding ancestors to obstructing parents. While the nation-state model might have worked favorably in the cases of France, Germany, and Great Britain, it probably didn’t in those of Spain, and possibly Italy.

Under the umbrella of the EU, finally the conditions are ripe for the peoples to be free from the singular strong-people of the nation-state.

Still, a people which shares a history, culture, and identity with other peoples can continue in an intermediate union, integral to the EU. But, this shouldn’t impede a particular people to choose to go it alone; though perhaps nostalgics, could form side-bonds, like local federations.

It is actually very simple, we’re used to painting ourselves into a corner, of self-complication of things. Words have a charming effect, but pay them no heed, things are plain and simple.

Allow me a short space to address understanding, and so dispel any preconceived notions blocking making further headway.

What is it that we understand, anyway, when asked what we’re understanding, when someone is nodding assent? We must understand, since we’re carrying on a conversation. But, how can this be? How can we be understanding, if we don’t have understanding?

Knowledge is hypotenuse philosophy, as if standing on the shoulders of wisdom and understanding. So, then, we must be knowing, out of our wisdom. But, then, how can this be? How can it be happening, if we’re not aware of the primeval, original common-sense?

It must be the case that we are recognizing it when we see it, yet not aware of what it is that we see. It is like a habit out of which we’re not fully aware, but it must be happening. Since we understand by language, but, how is it then, that we don’t know PaRDeS, being the case, that, that is precisely what makes language intelligible, to begin with?

Is it like the case of the vacuum, a silence, that makes things stand out, yet we ourselves can’t be quiet at all in mediation? Maybe this is no different from the case of the child-fool genius who cried out aloud, that the emperor had no clothes on.

Something like a collective illusion, fooling ourselves, as if we were fooling others. Alienation, perhaps. Not aware that the self is not the other, or something along these lines. It takes learning from the village people to play the game, to get caught in the game, not knowing what it is.

¡Sí se puede! An indi people-state, free from nation-states, can only occur under the European Union umbrella, nowhere else. In the EU, the conditions are ripe to turn the page of history.

The internal colonization feeling is hardly warranted nowadays. The strong-people syndrome of yesterday made an offer to other peoples that they could not refuse: protection from outsiders, but at a price, subjugation under their nation-state. Not bad for the times. But, not acceptable nowadays anymore.

Recall, previous to second, comes one, not first, and out of one, ReConstitution!

There’s the legality and legitimacy disputation, of law and right, respectively.

Now the Iberia Model could free the people of the peninsula, including Catalonia, Euskadi, Galicia, Portugal, and so on. Of course, outside of Europe, not far, there’s the Kurds’ struggle for independence, or nationhood. Quite a different setting, no doubt, but still the same idea of a people-state. And the list goes on in the Near East, but suffice for the moment. This quest for independence is nothing other than the individual equivalent at the respective level.

The Gandhi approach of peaceful disobedience to the status quo is fine; protesta y propuesta, is even better. Whatever they do, offer leadership. Don’t let a good crisis go to waste. Turn it around and be creative.

Use PaRDeS ReConstitution for World Repair, and then bring in the Schools, Colleges, and Universities to hammer out the specificity of the case, now as Universal ReConstitution. Combine the principle with know-how. Dialogue is just another name for the same thing, for hypotenuse philosophy of the enhanced T-diagrams.

I just don’t see Catalonia, the EU, and Civilization as a whole, going anywhere if it doesn’t embrace, on the one hand, the PaRDeS ReConstitution principle, and on the other hand, bring the University into the fray in order to implement the solutions. Theory and practice go hand-in-hand, there’s no other way to do it that can succeed.

Things, are out there; in the interstice, the field of words; behind them, lie ideas; and overall, the whole.

Contraries need not lead to violence, but can be superseded, with a commanding view standing on their shoulders, in PaRDeS Universal ReConstitution for World Repair. An independent Catalonia, a confederate Iberia, a European Union of people-states, a Civilization of PaRaDiSe Earth: the doormat to the New World of the II Millennium.

In all cases, either, together we spring forward, or else, separately we all fall back, just like with the changing of the times.
