A car wreck, eight months in rehab, amnesia, and six mysterious weeks that no one will help recovering Ember remember. Something has changed; is it her? Hauser  mysteriously reviews Loud Awake & Lost by Adele Griffin.

With a mix of magical realism, Beholding Bee by Kimberly Newton explores bullying, making peace with physical challenges, and finding one’s way when no one else can see what you see. Set during World War II, 12 year-old Bee runs away from her traveling carnival life only to find herself befriended by an unusual character in distinctive orange hat.  And a dog named Peabody.  Mauser-approved.

McElroy covers the biography selection for this episode with  To Dare Mighty Things: The Life of Theodore Roosevelt.  If you are a fan of Doreen  Rappaport’s recent bios about Helen Keller and John Kennedy, you won’t be disappointed.  The narrative weaves together TR’s extraordinary life through his own quotes and wonderful double-page spreads. Wow.

We end with a discussion of the Maker Movement and some exciting happenings at Mauser’s school.
