The Bloody History of the LaLaurie Mansion

TRIGGER WARNING: This story contains the torture of enslaved people. If you feel like it may be too emotional, please skip this one.

On the corner of Royal Street, in 1834, a mansion is going up in flames. When volunteers show up to fight the fire, they ask about the enslaved people inside. Delphine LaLaurie blows them off, urging them to save her belongings. They ignore her and search the house for survivors. The scene they found would haunt the city of New Orleans for more than a hundred years.

The LaLaurie Mansion has long been considered the most haunted building in New Orleans. The beautiful facade hides its horrific past and the frightening activity that plagues anyone who dares dwell there. This week, Alli and I discuss one of the vilest women in history, the serial killer Delphine LaLaurie.
