1:43

a production of the NFL in partnership

1:45

with iHeartRadio. Hey,

1:54

hey, hey, oh

1:57

yeah Welcome

2:03

in to Good Morning Football. You're looking at

2:05

downtown Detroit and they are ready to get

2:07

hands up. For day three of the draft,

2:09

we've got 157 picks left. Let's go. We

2:11

are up

2:15

early with you all on Saturday

2:17

morning here. I'm Jane Slater joined

2:20

by Jason McPherty. We've got Tom

2:22

Brute and Tom Pelocero there in

2:24

Detroit. Kyle, I'm a big

2:26

sports fan, but man, you are a

2:28

big Detroit fan rocking the red wings.

2:31

Yesterday it was the Pistons. It

2:33

was the Pistons. There's the Tigers before that

2:35

sucking up to the city of Detroit and

2:38

they deserve it. It's been incredible. It's raining

2:40

right now and you can't see this, but

2:42

there's this massive King Kong size mural of

2:44

Aiden Hutchinson here through the rain over our

2:46

shoulder. Detroit is destroying it. Tom, you're Natalie

2:48

Cladiz. There have been so many people and

2:50

you just see the aerial shots out here

2:53

where we have 550,000 or something. I'm wondering

2:55

though, is that going to continue today? We're

2:57

going from Woodstock to Woodstock 94. It's going

2:59

to be muddy. It's going to be wet.

3:01

I would still imagine they're coming out in droves to

3:03

the last, what is it? 157 picks. Let's go. Let's

3:05

go guys. We got a long way to go. Jason

3:07

McPherty, how are you feeling this morning? I'm

3:10

feeling great. I don't like that Kyle's a fake

3:12

Detroit fan. He's not a fan of any of

3:14

those teams that he's been wearing the last few

3:16

days. He just knows exactly where he's at. So

3:18

congratulations. You did a good job today. It's Saturday.

3:20

You guys are in Detroit enjoying yourself. It is

3:22

youth sports day in my household. So I'll be

3:24

spending time with you. And as soon as we're

3:26

done here, I'll be jumping up, heading to a

3:29

baseball game to put my eyes out. Jane, how

3:31

are you doing this morning? Let's go.

3:34

Well, so if I'm hearing you right, Jason,

3:36

it sounds like we should just start calling

3:38

Kyle Brandt our Drake on this episode of

3:41

Good Morning Football. Guys, let's go ahead and

3:43

get into this. Let's get into the lead

3:45

vlog. All

3:50

right, guys, you know how this goes. Day

3:52

two, things can get squirrely. I always love

3:54

the reactions from the fans. It's sort of

3:56

that meme where it's like, and then they

3:58

think about it a little research.

4:01

They feel better about it. The

4:03

time when you start looking at day two,

4:05

what stood out to you? Well,

4:07

I got accused off the top of the show of

4:10

being a front running suck up. So I want to

4:12

go back to something that I have some credibility on.

4:14

And Jason can back me up on this from the

4:16

second, the second the charge was hired, Jim Harbaugh, the

4:18

first good morning football show we did. I said, I

4:21

believe the charge will win 11 games this year. I'm

4:23

going to change that now. I know

4:25

they will win 11 games this year. The chargers

4:27

are going to win 11 games this year based

4:29

on the strength of their picks. We saw day

4:31

one, Harbaugh comes out. So we're going to go

4:33

Joe off. I'm going to take the big guy.

4:35

I'm bringing him in. Then we go day two,

4:38

but they're like, we need receivers. We need receivers.

4:40

You got rid of our receivers. Fine. Give me

4:42

lab McConkie from Georgia, bring them in here. It's

4:44

a perfect fit. Lab McConkie is going to catch

4:46

90 balls this year. It's my next prediction. 11

4:48

wins, 90 balls. Two

4:50

words for lab McConkie on the charges.

4:53

Hookah. Nikua 2.0 in

4:55

2024. I love this player. I love everything

4:58

that's going on. Listen, they thought Harbaugh Thomas is going

5:00

to pick all Michigan players. That's how it was going

5:02

to go. Turns out he never drafted a Stanford player

5:04

a single time when he was not a single

5:06

one. He went and got junior Colson. So he's

5:09

just lining them up. Okay. And by the way,

5:11

if you think that these guys aren't going to

5:13

be accustomed to weird Jim Harbaugh, and he is

5:15

weird, let's go to some sound on tape for

5:17

his newest offensive tackle, getting the lingo down. This

5:19

is how you look at 11 wins. Go ahead.

5:21

Roll it. How are you

5:23

doing, coach? Got a question for you. Who's got it

5:25

better than us? Nobody.

5:54

That guy's going to the Superbowl guys. I'm not saying it'll

5:57

be this year. He's going that weirdo. I

5:59

love you, Jim. He's very unusual. He's going to

6:01

the Super Bowl. I'm telling you it's going to happen,

6:03

Tom. That was

6:05

a trade, by the way, to go to get

6:07

live mikake, right, in the second round. So that

6:09

was the story last night. Timmy was, we went

6:11

into round one and he moved up at the

6:13

top. It wasn't a whole lot. Last night you

6:16

got it. And that was a function of some

6:18

of those players who were still available as we

6:20

got into round two. Bill Stampath, the

6:22

key on Coleman, everybody can breathe for a second here.

6:24

He added a receiver after Stephon Dix after both put

6:26

trades down and given the Chiefs as they were worthy

6:29

and all that. The Chargers didn't fly up. They take

6:31

lab, but donkey, a guy who possibly would have gone

6:33

off in the first round. There were some medical concerns

6:35

for certain teams here. That's a value pick. I just

6:37

like every year we start to get that action. And

6:40

this is different back in the day, not that long

6:42

ago, when it was a two day draft, not three,

6:44

you didn't end until after round three for the first

6:46

day. And as GM say to me the other day,

6:48

I don't like it. I liked it better when you

6:51

had to just keep rolling through round three because

6:53

everybody kind of recalibrate after the first round. So

6:55

what happens yesterday, you get these runs on receivers,

6:57

you get the runs on defensive line, you get

6:59

the runs on offensive tackles here. A lot of

7:02

fascinating picks through the course of the draft, not

7:04

just the teams who went and filled needs, but

7:06

the teams who doubled down the Packers taking Marshawn

7:08

Lloyd mother of God. I thought was one of

7:11

the most fascinating picks that we got on day

7:13

two. They just got Josh Jacobs to a massive

7:15

deal. They brought back AJ Dillon. Now you had

7:17

Marshawn Lloyd. And some people thought was the best

7:19

running back in the draft is a commitment

7:22

to running the football. We've had a lot about

7:24

Jordan Love. What are you going to pay him

7:26

here? The Packers want to run it down your

7:28

throats. It looks like a really tough. I

7:30

love the division. Well, I was looking at,

7:33

you know, you already mentioned it guys, the wide

7:35

receiver will, it was the bills that kicked it

7:37

off. I mean, I think there was a lot

7:39

of frustration from Kansas city chief fans when Xavier

7:42

worthy went to chief, they needed

7:44

a wide receiver. Not only did the bills

7:47

go back once they went back twice, they

7:49

picked up Keon Coleman. Now Keon Coleman wasn't

7:51

the fastest guy at the combine that

7:53

was Xavier worthy. And again, he went to

7:55

the cheese, but in the absence of Stephon

7:58

Diggs, I think they went out and they were able to. to

8:00

get a guy that 50 50

8:02

ball guy, he's a red zone threat. He

8:04

was incredibly athletic and he gets you the

8:06

separation. And so addressing that need,

8:08

I think was big. That's what caught my eye

8:10

because that was a glaring need for them. And

8:12

I think there were a lot of questions from

8:14

that fan base going, baby, what we do and,

8:16

and they fixed it with that number three pick

8:19

to kick off the second day. They

8:21

did. They got a receiver that can go up

8:23

and when those 50 50 catches that come up

8:25

with those acrobatic grabs, losing both their receivers this

8:27

off season, Tom, I'm in your vein where you

8:29

see the Packers doubling down, you're getting a chance

8:31

to see they want to run the ball. I'm

8:34

looking at the LA Rams and what they were

8:36

able to do in this draft. Our guys Shregs

8:38

was spot on with his first round, but he

8:40

did say the Rams were going to go off

8:42

and not only did they go defense in the

8:44

first round with Jarevers and the second round they

8:46

went and got his teammate, Braden. There's two guys

8:48

up front to put pressure on the quarterback and

8:50

to stop the run. They lose Aaron Donald,

8:52

the future hall of fame or this past

8:54

off season. Sure. They got two

8:57

third round guys and Colby Turner and Byron

8:59

young. This year, the three out of the

9:01

four picks are all defensive of guys. So

9:03

you can imagine for a person for this

9:05

year in college, missing man, I can't wait

9:07

till next year. We're going to get drafted.

9:10

Oh, they're both in LA on the same

9:12

team. Talk about familiarity. Also

9:14

they go out and get camera kitchens to

9:16

see out of Miami. He had double digit

9:18

intercepts with the history of Miami, Miami, only

9:21

three guys in the last 24, 25 years at Miami have done

9:25

double digit interceptions. The other two Sean Taylor

9:27

and Ed Reed. So I'll look at the

9:29

Rams. They're going defense throughout the beginning of

9:31

this draft showing that, Hey, that's where we're

9:33

going to make improvement. They also got a

9:36

pretty good running back and play corn as

9:38

well. Oh yeah. We're talking a lot

9:40

about the teams that are contenders, right? And they're adding

9:42

a piece. You think the chargers are going to win

9:44

11 games, if not more this season,

9:46

let's have at the worst team last year

9:48

in the NFL, the Carolina Panthers. They got

9:50

a new head coach. They got a new

9:52

GM and they don't have the number one

9:54

pick. Usually if you were the worst, you

9:56

win two games, at least it's okay. Sorry,

9:58

we're going type changing

10:00

player. Nope. Nope. The bears got that.

10:03

They draft Caleb Williams here. What

10:05

stood out to me was the Panthers maneuvering

10:07

the board the way that Dan Morgan, the

10:09

new GM did. Night one, friends back in,

10:11

only moves up one spot gives him a

10:13

six front pitch to go get Xavier. We

10:16

get yesterday straight down with the Rams. We

10:18

just heard about Brady Fisk there. I think

10:20

they're going to be 20, 25 second round

10:22

pick the Panthers do as a part of

10:24

that deal. Bonnie Austin for did

10:26

this last year, right? Got future draft capital. Right. He's

10:28

here when you're drafting up in the top. I turn

10:30

that into extra things. I think of an extra two.

10:32

They give up a couple of books around to go

10:35

up and get the top running back in the draft.

10:37

Jonathan's books. You've added a running back and a wide

10:39

receiver. Why does he mean? I think that's the upside.

10:41

The only British one year South Carolina, but a running

10:43

back who he's not coming off the toward ACL. Maybe

10:46

he goes from the first round here. He's supposed to

10:48

be ready prior to the course of training camp. I

10:50

thought in a tough position for the Panthers here, they

10:52

managed to go out, get a couple of guys instantly.

10:55

You would open David analysis off it are

10:57

really going to help get right. This is

10:59

what we do with the draft for Tom.

11:01

It's the worst team in the NFL opening

11:03

block of the show. We're talking Panthers, what

11:05

they're doing, what they're doing. That's what it's

11:07

all about. The chiefs will have their time.

11:09

We're talking Panthers. Let's go Jane. Well,

11:12

and you know, it's been interesting, Kyle. We

11:14

haven't talked a lot about the Cowboys. That's

11:16

because this off season, they haven't done a

11:18

lot. I did think that they made some

11:20

smart moves at least in the second day.

11:23

You guys know I cover the Cowboys, the

11:25

exasperation on my timeline when the Panthers took

11:27

Jonathan Brooks because of the love affair that

11:29

Jerry Jones had with him calling him the

11:31

best interview he'd had in 30 years. I

11:34

don't think it was a smokescreen. I truly believe they loved

11:36

him. I'd been hearing it for months, but at

11:38

least when they moved back in that first round,

11:41

I thought they did a really smart job. I

11:43

mean, Cooper, BB, no one was upset about them

11:45

getting him. He's a guard that they've been working

11:47

at center. Of course, Tyler B Yaddish moved on

11:50

to the commander. So they had to fill that

11:52

need. They went and got what I consider two

11:54

replacements for the future. They've got a guy that

11:56

can replace Zach Martin and they've also got a

11:59

guy that can replace So

12:01

I thought they were smart about it. It

12:03

wasn't flashy, but at least they did

12:05

good with the draft. They just haven't

12:07

done good with the off season guys. And that's been

12:09

one of the more, the biggest frustrations of this fan

12:11

base. And I was talking to a friend the other

12:13

day, I was like, we're really just not talking about

12:15

the Cowboys these days. And no one's really saying anything

12:17

about it either. I'm still waiting for

12:19

him to go get that running back though. I know

12:22

Ezekiel Elliott has been rumored to be coming back home.

12:24

I expected him to draft when it hasn't happened, but

12:26

I love what you're talking about, Jane. Just solidifying that

12:28

offensive line, you can never go wrong with that. Indeed.

12:31

All right, we've got a lot more to

12:34

talk about. The 2024 NFL Draft presented by

12:36

Bud Light has been a historic one and

12:38

were not done yet. NFL

12:40

Network coverage brought to you by

12:42

Verizon continues today at 12 p.m.

12:44

Eastern, and it's streaming on NFL

12:46

Plus. You can also catch

12:48

coverage on ESPN and ABC. All

12:52

those things they like to talk about, that's the

12:54

number one overall pick in the NFL Draft. He

12:56

made his way to the north suburbs of Chicago

12:58

where he will now work. We're gonna hear from

13:00

Caleb, the new Bears quarterback, right

13:02

after this, don't go anywhere. Bear down, good

13:04

morning. You

13:09

go into your shower feeling tired,

13:12

but as soon as you reach for the Irish spring, your

13:15

day immediately gets better. That crisp,

13:17

fresh, unmistakable Irish spring scent zings

13:19

your brain and awakens your senses.

13:22

So when you finally emerge from the shower, 37

13:25

minutes later, because you pay the water bill so you can stay

13:27

in there as long as you want, you're

13:30

ready to take on the day. And smell

great doing it. Irish spring body

13:58

I'ma be honest with you. I don't think

14:01

I took it all but I think I would have

14:03

shocked a lot of people. I think Kobe and everybody

14:05

in their front of Kobe win a one-on-one. Yeah,

14:07

because you gotta think he's gonna guard. He don't care

14:09

about guarding. He's gonna guard. He's gonna guard like you

14:11

see him in the Olympics, he's gonna guard and then

14:14

on top of that. Ladies

14:16

and gentlemen, please welcome Sam Casodapoint game. I

14:18

remember you kidding my bro. I'm

14:21

crying. I mean, he was in a culture

14:24

shock. He's going to withdraw

14:26

us about winning. Remember what I told you? I

14:29

said, OG, you think I can get paid and go back and play in

college because you didn't need it. Check

I'm doing great. I love you. I love

15:54

your story. Pick up the mic. I love

15:56

your episode. You feel ready? You guys do

15:58

butterflies? Oh, yeah. has an

16:00

amazing story and the story is still being written in terms

16:02

of where it ends up. I think we need to include

16:04

in the story Byron. You are a big

16:07

dude and we have a desk here and a

16:09

table. Let's establish right now just how big I'll

16:11

call you. Let's stand up next to each other.

16:13

Come here. Six seven. Come here. Stay right next

16:15

to me. But I think I'm six eight. Okay.

16:17

Let's go back to back. Let's go back

16:19

to back. See what people don't know about me at

16:21

TV. I'm six foot five. So look

16:23

how big my man is. You're not going to

16:25

draft this guy. Come on. Call Byron. Byron you

16:28

feel good. We can do the whole interview like

16:30

this. No. I want

16:32

to know a lot about your story because I know it's

16:34

unconventional. Just give us the people at home who might not

16:36

know you were going to know you. You

16:38

didn't play football growing up. You were a

16:40

basketball player in college. Talk about the journey

16:42

when you finally decided to experiment. Like I

16:45

think I'm going to get into football. What

16:47

happened. So pretty much that was done

16:49

when I was through USF when the British South

16:51

Florida. And I say the guys were recruiting me

16:53

like my teammates and the coaches see me like

16:55

in the training room and I

16:57

used to play football. I never played

16:59

football. We finally know what football was. And

17:02

I remember in the spring of 2021 I walked

17:04

to see the practice. I was there man. I

17:06

fell in love with it. Like

17:08

the game was like amazing. I got away

17:10

like through this. So I went

17:12

like through this after and give it a try.

17:14

First day we passed home and everything. And from

17:17

there look at me right now. So

17:19

tell me what that was like the first time

17:21

someone of your size and your age. Do you

17:23

even know how to put on the pad. No

17:25

I put it sideways. You put

17:27

the shoulder pads on sideways. Yeah. So my

17:29

home man I don't know how to take it off.

17:32

So I was going with my home

17:34

for like a whole process but I had no break.

17:36

I don't know how to take it out. And so

17:38

you don't even have the equipment on right. And yet

17:40

you're so big you're so talented and you want to

17:42

learn so badly once you get your helmet

17:44

on straight. What is the trickiest part of

17:46

the game for you. What was the thing that was

17:48

the most difficult to learn. It was

17:50

the speed of the game. Like

17:53

before I was living in my stand the ball

17:55

was a risk. Now I'm in bad and I

17:57

play this as an so I

17:59

was sometimes you know. all sides, stuff like that, but

18:01

yeah, we'll start to speed up the game. How did

18:03

you feel about the contact? There's some people who are

18:05

great athletes who the contact just isn't for them. It's

18:07

a contact sport, you like it? I love it. I

18:11

can't even finish the question. Yeah, I was

18:13

waiting. Why'd you love it so

18:15

much? I don't know what I thought, we're about

18:17

to put my hands in somebody, it's gonna hurt.

18:19

Yeah, I understand. So yeah, I love that. So

18:21

listen, you are part of, you have the shirt

18:23

on right now, International Player Pathway, if you don't

18:25

know what this is, is the NFL's way to

18:27

find people like Bayer and Matos, to find people

18:29

who don't have the conventional path, who didn't go

18:31

through Ohio State, or they didn't go through Toledo,

18:33

they went through their own way. What does this

18:35

program mean to you? Home, man.

18:38

It's all about home, family, man. I

18:40

mean, the greatest people in my life through the program, like

18:43

the people in Charlotte, and the people behind the scenes, they

18:46

gave me through here, it was the best thing

18:48

with my life. Without this, we

18:50

wouldn't be having this conversation right now. Where would

18:52

you be? I don't know,

18:55

probably playing basketball somewhere. Basketball. But I

18:57

did wanna play football, and I

18:59

wore hard, but they pushed me like day

19:02

by day, every day for 10 weeks. It

19:04

was the most extensive than weeks that

19:06

I ever have to this point. But many

19:08

great people take care of everybody, look

19:11

out for the players, and find the

19:13

best athlete in the world. Incredibly likable

19:16

guy, as we're sitting here, Byron

19:18

Matos. Listen, before you go, we

19:21

wanna see you on an NFL roster. We wanna finish

19:23

this, and we know even at your same position, Jordan

19:25

Milata is now the face of the international

19:27

program from Australia. This weekend, you're gonna

19:29

sit around, maybe the team calls, and if they

19:31

don't, they call after the draft and bring you

19:33

in. How are you feeling about what's gonna happen

19:36

the next couple days? I

19:38

got my goals set up, my head. So

19:40

the goal for me is like drafted. The goal is

19:42

to play in the league with the team. 10 years,

19:44

sir. Why is that the goal? It's

19:46

a goal. Let's make history, leave a legacy out

19:48

there. I wanna be one

19:51

of the first Americans to

19:53

play in the NFL, board and race in the yard, and

19:55

to leave my legacy wherever I go. This

19:57

is the NFL's big poppy right here. This

20:00

guy is awesome, he's huge, he's likeable

20:02

and he will pancake this snot out

20:04

of you, trust me. This is Byron Matos

20:06

from the Dominican Republic. When you hear his name called

20:09

or when you see him sign cheer for him, there's

20:11

a lot more of him out there and they are

20:13

coming to the NFL. So it's also going to

20:15

help you man. The best use of more. Giant

20:17

man, giant man, giant man. That's what the

20:20

draft is all about, dreams becoming a

20:22

reality. It's day three of the NFL

20:24

draft. Can't wait for it to get

20:27

started. Before that, join with us right

20:29

now as director of football operations and

20:31

player personnel the East West Shrine game,

20:33

Eric Galco, friend of the show, welcome

20:35

on in. Appreciate having you guys, good

20:37

morning. Anytime you've been on before

20:39

and we've talked about some of the guys that

20:41

come through your game and get drafted into the

20:44

NFL. Some alums have gone so

20:46

far. A guy that I'm fascinated by,

20:48

Edron Cooper out of Texas A&M, linebacker,

20:50

he goes to the Green Bay Packers and he

20:52

shows up all over the field. Tell us a

20:55

little bit about him and what Green Bay Packers

20:57

fans can expect when he shows up in that

20:59

facility. Edron Cooper is a dynamic linebacker. I think

21:01

he'd be among the top linebackers in any draft

21:04

in the last couple of years. He is an

21:06

elite tackler. He's an explosive guy who comes upfield

21:08

and finishes the ball here consistently. He's efficient in

21:10

the box. He can separate and shed tacklers really

21:13

easily. He's a dynamic pass rusher. He had five

21:15

sacks this year coming just off the edge as

21:17

you see there, they clip right there. And

21:20

then in coverage, he's still developing, but with the length,

21:22

he has lettuce in the building, moving space.

21:24

He was one of the best coverage linebackers

21:26

in one on one against tight ends running

21:28

back in this year's draft class. So a

21:30

three pronged linebacker, tremendous upside. Tackers

21:32

got to feel the play alongside Quay Walker for the next decade.

21:35

All right. This was a dagger in the heart

21:37

for the Cowboys fans. You know, I was there

21:39

with you at the East West Shrine Bowl and

21:41

Cowboys had plenty of opportunities to go talk to

21:43

Jonathan Brooks. He's right off the board a couple

21:45

of picks later. He goes to the Panthers. What

21:48

can folks expect from Jonathan

21:50

Brooks, both on and off the field? Yeah,

21:52

so many Dallas Cowboys made their interest in Jonathan

21:55

Brooks knowing this draft process, but he's a

21:57

fantastic prospect. He had an injury towards the

21:59

end. of his college season, why he

22:01

wasn't able to participate in these special rival, but

22:03

still down there for every NFL team and

22:05

talking with teams, the football IQ just oozes out

22:08

of that, right? He's a dynamic talent, not very

22:10

far off from V. John Robinson last year's first

22:12

running back taking. I think the way he's

22:14

able to develop as a pass protector, as a

22:16

guy to the backfield, the high football IQ he

22:19

possesses, he joined NFL teams entire draft

22:21

process and he can be a three down back

22:23

right away in the NFL. I think Panthers fans

22:25

got a running back, not far

22:27

off from V. John Robinson. You get a

22:29

guy who's basically a first round talent, not for

22:31

injury early in round two. I love to

22:33

hear that for Bryce showing you get a guy

22:35

like that to join you in Carolina. That's a

22:38

beautiful thing. And let's also transition to the defensive

22:40

side of the ball, something I love specifically DB's

22:42

and Renardo Green out of Florida State. He

22:44

gets drafted to the San Francisco 49ers. Now you

22:46

look at it, it's our various moonies out

22:48

there. They have the Amador Lenoir possibly playing

22:51

in a slot. What can Renardo Green

22:53

bring to this defensive? The 49ers, Renardo

22:55

Green went against Malik neighbors, Ryan Thomas and Ricky

22:57

Persil last year, all first round picks on Thursday

23:00

night, shut them all down. Uh, the clip I

23:02

know NFL network showed on Malik neighbors being pushed

23:04

to the ground on our green pick six. I

23:06

mean, this is the guy that against the best

23:09

competition, she got guys down. He was the best

23:11

corner press corner in this draft class at the

23:13

late second round. It was a fantastic value for

23:15

the 49ers. They got a plug and play press

23:17

corner the next deck in that four riders defense.

23:20

And again, they'll be able to see that

23:22

passion to have their upfront. You know, Eric,

23:24

before I ask you this next question, I

23:26

did want to circle back to the Cowboys

23:28

and that running back deal. We did see

23:31

Frank Gore Jr. There at the east west

23:33

side ball. Remember he scored that first touchdown.

23:35

His dad wasn't even inside yet. Uh,

23:37

so, you know, I'm going to throw his name

23:39

out there for folks today and maybe he's, he's

23:41

someone they can pick up late, you know, but

23:44

you do, you do hang your hat a little

23:46

bit on the fact that you've got the Raiders,

23:48

a no-connel, you got the 49ers brought party. What

23:51

do you think the east west shrine bowl did in

23:53

the way of showcasing their talents to help them get

23:55

to the NFL? I think those two guys

23:57

had plenty of talent coming in, right? I always like to keep

23:59

up with. here that the shrine bowl is

24:01

just a vessel for these guys to show ourselves.

24:03

He's what they are and those guys don't know

24:05

the triangle anything, but I think they know Connell

24:08

showed his maturity, especially from the pocket. The way

24:10

he improved each and every day with new receivers

24:12

and a new steam. He really showed that from

24:14

the pocket. He could be a really efficient quarterback

24:16

and Josh McDaniel that year that coach the time

24:18

saw him up close and personal in Las Vegas.

24:20

We were in Las Vegas and I think didn't

24:22

want to leave the forefront without him. And then

24:25

Brock pretty just showed a mastery of not only

24:27

managing the playbook quickly in the shrine bowl and

24:29

also managing his teammates and being a leader right

24:31

away. I think this year we've got two guys,

24:33

Jordan Travis, who like Jonathan Brooks from

24:35

Texas was him participating in the shrine bowl

24:37

this year, but was there to interview certainly

24:39

impressed NFL teams way upon his recovery right

24:41

now. And then Devin Leary from

24:43

Kentucky, who I think has a chance to be this year's fourth,

24:46

fifth round quarterback that could have been a starting quarterback

24:48

in the future. The Jets and the Ravens two teams

24:50

I'm watching for those two guys today. It's awesome to

24:52

see and day three rolls around for the NFL draft

24:54

and I was a guy that got drafted at the

24:56

end of the sixth round. Was able to have a

24:58

long career as you look forward to that. Are there

25:00

some guys today that you look at and you're saying,

25:02

you know what? Aiden O'Connell or

25:05

Brock Perdue, they get in there and they

25:07

play right away. If some guys that can

25:09

get drafted today that can make huge impacts

25:11

on their team. Yeah, even aside from the

25:13

quarterback, two guys that was surprised didn't go

25:15

on Friday. Mo Camara, Colorado State, he's the

25:17

pass rusher, probably the best pass rusher, speed

25:19

rusher left. He had 15 sacks last season.

25:21

JT Sanders, pent up from Texas, one of

25:23

the best tight ends still available. Adrian

25:25

Taylor-Demerson of Texas Tech, the best nickel corner,

25:28

maybe the best safety overall available. He's an

25:30

M.I.M.I.C. player and then Malik Washington from Virginia,

25:32

slot receiver led the country in receptions this

25:34

past season. I think he's going to be

25:37

a fourth, maybe fifth round pick at worst

25:39

at slot receiver. But don't be surprised if

25:41

he catches 56 people just like Pop Douglas

25:43

did from the crime ball a year

25:45

ago. Pop Douglas, he got it done out there.

25:47

Eric, appreciate you coming by this morning and dropping

25:49

some gems on us about these prospects. Fans, if

25:51

you're out there, don't be worried. Day three, there

25:53

are still some guys out there. You've heard it

25:55

from Eric Dalco right here. Appreciate you, man. Have

25:57

a good morning. Enjoy the rest of the week.

26:00

to drive. Appreciate it guys. Enjoy

26:02

the day. You

26:08

go into your shower feeling tired,

26:11

but as soon as you reach for the Irish spring, your

26:14

day immediately gets better. That crisp,

26:16

fresh, unmistakable Irish spring scent zings

26:18

your brain and awakens your senses.

26:21

So when you finally emerge from the shower, 37 minutes

26:24

later, because you pay the water bill so you can stay

26:27

in there as long as you want, you're

26:29

ready to take on the day and

26:31

smell great doing it. Irish

26:33

spring body wash and bar soap, fresh

26:35

green Irish shop now at a store

26:37

near you. What's up? I'm

26:39

John Wall. And I'm CJ Toledona and we're

26:41

starting a new podcast presented by DraftKings called

26:43

Point Game. We're now joined by three time

26:45

NBA six man of the year, elite bucket

26:47

getter. Let's please welcome Jamal Crawford to Point

26:49

Game, king of the court, one on one

26:51

tournament. If they had it back in your

26:53

prime, do you think you could have took

26:56

it off? I'm going to be honest with

26:58

you. I don't think I could have took

27:00

it off, but I think I would have shocked

27:02

a lot of people. I think Kobe and everybody in

27:04

their prime, Kobe win a one on one. Yeah.

27:07

Yeah. Because you got to think he's going

27:09

to guard. He don't care about guarding. He's going to guard. He's going guard

27:11

like you see him in the lip and he's going guard and then on

27:13

top of that. Ladies

27:16

and gentlemen, please welcome Sam Casota, point game.

27:18

I remember you came out from front. I

27:21

mean, he was in the culture shock.

27:24

He's going to withdraw us about winning. I

27:27

said, oh, do you think I can get paid and go back and

27:29

play in college? Check

27:33

out point game with John Wall and CJ Toledano

27:35

on the I heart radio app, DraftKings YouTube or

27:38

wherever you get your podcasts. Hey,

27:40

this is Jody Sweeten from the

27:42

podcast. How rude Tanneritos as

27:44

a nostalgic voice from your past. I'm here to

27:47

remind you that amongst the stressful and chaotic existence

27:49

we live in 2024, you deserve

27:52

to get away. It's time for

27:54

a vacation, no matter when you're hearing

27:56

this. And let me tell you how you'll get there.

27:58

The 2024. Hyundai Santa

28:00

Fe. Want to bring the family to

28:02

the mountains with the Santa Fe's available H-Track

28:05

all-wheel drive? Well, it's got standard third-row seating

28:07

and available dual wireless charging pads for the

28:09

kids who just want to stare at their

28:11

phone and not talk to you. You

28:13

know what I mean. Visit hundayusa.com or call

28:16

562-314-4603 for more details. Hyundai,

28:20

there's joy in every journey. All

28:31

right, well the headline of the draft was, of

28:34

course, the Chicago Bears. Taking

28:36

Caleb Williams over, number one overall,

28:38

he's finally become a bear. I'm

28:42

here. Rome's here. Kenan Island, you

28:44

know, top five defense that we had last

28:47

year. You know, special

28:49

teams, all the new rules, whatever, you know,

28:51

it's all, it's, you know, we're here. So

28:53

I'm excited. I know everybody's excited. The

28:56

Bears fans are excited from what I've heard and seen.

28:59

And there's no reason to duck, you know, attack

29:01

it, you know, head first and

29:03

go get it. It was just one of those

29:05

big days, you know, for all of us that

29:07

are going through this process that, you know, it's

29:09

once in a lifetime. You try to soak it

29:11

all in, but, you know, when that phone

29:13

call came around, it was, you know,

29:15

something different. The feeling that I can't

29:18

describe and it was just, you know,

29:20

overwhelming emotions of joy, you know, bliss.

29:22

The Denver Broncos select Bo Nick. Sean

29:25

Payton picks you. What does that

29:27

mean to you? Just excited to be

29:29

his guy, you know, that's, you

29:32

know, it's not, not lightly said. And so,

29:35

but again, it goes back. I

29:37

don't want to just be, you know, a draft pick, you know,

29:39

I want to be able to, to show my improvements

29:42

and show that I can do

29:44

what he picked me to do. And that's go out there and

29:46

win games. How prepared do you think you are to be a

29:48

pro quarterback right away? Now,

29:50

I don't know the playbooks. I'm not prepared right now. I

29:55

don't feel no pressure. You

29:57

know, I'm going to just come in and just be me.

30:00

Coach Mayo is a player's coach. I can, you know,

30:02

easy right away, you know, see how the

30:04

players are tracked to him, how they want him to, you know,

30:06

be the head coach and just, you know, play the position, you

30:08

know, play in the stadium. Like I

30:10

said, still a family-oriented organization. That

30:13

means a lot to me. And I think every time

30:15

I see Coach Mayo, he's been in a workout outfit,

30:17

just putting in work. He's still getting it in. So

30:19

that's just excited to play for him. Have you talked

30:21

to Kirk yet? Yeah, so he did

30:23

reach out, you know. We had a very good

30:25

conversation. He's an amazing guy. You know, I actually

30:27

watched a quarterback series with him, you

30:29

know, seeing that he's a man of faith,

30:31

just like me. He's a man.

30:34

He's all about his family. And, you know, so

30:36

I really enjoyed that, you know, to kind of

30:38

get a feel of what kind of guy he

30:40

is, you know. And I'm super blessed to be

30:42

able to be in a room with him and

30:44

to be able to work with him and learn

30:46

from him and support him as, you know, he

30:48

continues with his career. All

30:51

right, guys, we spent a lot of

30:53

time talking about this. Michael Pinnix Jr.

30:55

drafted into what can only be described

30:57

as a very awkward situation. We know

30:59

that Kirk Cousins is the

31:02

guy, but after listening to all these guys

31:04

talk, I want to start with

31:06

Kyle. What quarterback are you all

31:08

in on right now? Well,

31:10

I think we have to talk about Caleb. He's

31:13

the number one overall pick. And when you bring

31:15

up the video of him not just being up

31:17

here in the stage and screaming and standing in

31:19

front of fans, he takes the plane. He takes

31:21

it with his new best friend, Roma Dumsay, too

31:23

late for us. The Bears logo is behind him.

31:26

It's all real. And I think Bears fans

31:28

feel like they're dreaming right now. That's what

31:30

drafts are made of. It's actually real. That

31:32

did happen. And then the other things are

31:34

real. I was joking about the day after he drafted. Like, they

31:37

have too many players that put in a huddle. They

31:40

can't put all the weapons that Poles has

31:42

right now that Caleb has in the huddle

31:44

at the same time. He and five linemen guys,

31:46

that's the way it works. That makes for six

31:48

spots. One of them is the Panthers. Five guys,

31:50

they don't ultimate in some great problems. It's embarrassment

31:52

of wealth, embarrassment of riches. And they donate, too.

31:54

They don't have a second-round pick, Tom, because they

31:56

traded it for Moncette's sweat. Fine. And

31:59

the third round, they're like... Do we need

32:01

a lineman sure let's trash an

32:03

Ivy leaguer from Yale, Karan Amagaji

32:08

Karan Amagajina, he's from Chicago. He's from Hinsdale. Tinsdale

32:10

Central High School He's the Red Devils great program

32:12

all kinds of pros and he's gonna be in

32:14

front of him now So now they're looking for

32:17

their favorite Yale guy at a Bears uniform since

32:19

Gary Fensick. It's all just coming up beautifully right

32:21

now I love it, and I love Caleb, but

32:23

Thomas I pass it to you. Do you want

32:25

a nugget? I love you. Love the crew. No,

32:27

please. I have a nugget on bow nicks Bow

32:31

nicks has the shortest Full

32:33

name for any player drafted in NFL history just

32:35

five letters BO and I act They sold the

32:38

full first that's full name and he ties a

32:40

player I guess named Ed Lee who Washington drafted

32:42

in 1950 or who they picked Ed Lee and

32:44

bow nicks Shortest names ever there's your nugget bow

32:47

nicks sounds like some type of a skincare product

32:49

these might find like you know When I try

32:51

to get rid of the wrinkles under my eyes

32:53

bow nicks does it for me so great It's

32:56

right up against the Cindy Crawford product just the

32:58

infomercial rolls Try a little bone that's under the

33:00

eyes before you go to bed It's great for

33:02

you my favorite part of all those quarterback press

33:04

conferences by the way is When

33:07

else in your entire life you see

33:09

a bunch of men wearing suits with

33:11

a hat on there's basically NFL draft

33:13

quarterbacks Yankees games and billionaires at a

33:15

yacht club who are trying to look

33:17

sporty That's the entire category of people

33:19

you ever see looking like that. I

33:22

would agree with you on Caleb Williams There's a

33:24

huge part of why they put all those pieces

33:26

around it was there's a recruiting aspect with Caleb

33:28

We didn't want to know hey, we're gonna have

33:31

the infrastructure We're gonna be investment So you go

33:33

out and you try you signed the Andre Swift and you

33:35

trade for Keenan Allen you get him Rona dune say JJ

33:38

McCarthy lands in Minnesota where all

33:40

of that already existed Quarterback

33:44

off the board and he's gonna

33:46

be playing with Justin Jefferson and

33:48

Jordan Addison J.

33:50

Hockinson had a pretty good offensive

33:53

line with Kevin O'Connell as the

33:55

offensive If you lined

33:57

up all the situation going into the opposite

33:59

you this is at the top. There

34:01

were lots of no, and Aaron Jones

34:03

in the back there's a lot of quarterbacks who would

34:05

have loved to land in Minnesota.

34:07

So Virginia McCarthy, the questions were what you

34:10

didn't see on tape, right? It's hey, it

34:12

gets away with the ball like that. You

34:14

struck it down field. It gets a little

34:16

bit under throat. The knocks on him work

34:18

at times. He's getting away with it. Not

34:20

because he has great players around him, but

34:22

just yeah, he's doing well enough and he

34:25

didn't have to make that many plays where

34:27

you keep doing these low percentage types of

34:29

passes. It's going to catch up with you. Eventually,

34:31

Michigan ran the crap out of the ball. They

34:33

kicked around everybody defensively. But if you're talking about

34:35

a guy who felt himself in the process, people

34:37

really liked his interview process and going in with

34:39

a chance to develop and get better, you can't

34:42

do better than Jay-Z McCarthy. I think we just

34:44

came up with the GMF B segment, Jason, like

34:46

right in the middle of a segment. It's like,

34:48

who is set up better for success? Is it

34:50

Caleb or is it JJ? That sounds perfect. I

34:52

know you're going to add a little bit right

34:54

now. It is perfect

34:56

because those two guys have the best quarterback situations

34:59

coming out of that draft. And you guys both

35:01

said it. You look at Caleb Williams and the

35:03

weapons that he has around him. Shane Walsh is

35:05

going to be the offensive coordinator as a first,

35:07

as a first overall pick to have that many

35:09

guys to get the ball to. And then Keenan

35:12

Allen as a veteran to be able to lead

35:14

to that room as well. And then for JJ

35:16

McCarthy, he doesn't go in the top five, but

35:18

to have Kevin O'Connor as the offensive coordinator, we

35:20

saw what he was able to do with Nick

35:23

Mullins coming over there and Joshua Dolph and kind

35:25

of keeping that team will flow in the

35:27

playoff picture as the season crept on. Now

35:29

having a guy and a decision maker like

35:31

JJ McCarthy is going to be fantastic to

35:33

watch. I love questions like this, like which

35:35

quarterback situation are you all in on a

35:37

rookie quarterback? And I'm going to be all

35:40

in on anybody situation. Absolutely not. Who the

35:42

heck knows what they're going to do when

35:44

the ball is in their hands and the

35:46

game becomes real, but I'm just going to

35:48

go by one. I'm fascinated to see on

35:50

polls and that's Jaden Daniels with the Washington

35:52

commanders. This guy was a Heisman trophy, trophy

35:55

winner a year ago. And it's just absolutely

35:57

electric. Adam Peters, the general manager of the

35:59

commander said. He just takes your soul

36:01

as a defense. And when you hear something like

36:03

that, it's like, oh my goodness. And when Jayden

36:05

gets there and they ask him about it, and

36:07

they're like, well, what does that mean to you?

36:09

He told him to turn on the 2023 Florida

36:11

game. And

36:14

they were like, well, can you elaborate? Go watch the film.

36:16

He has over 600 total yards and

36:18

five touchdowns. I want to see him with

36:20

Jahann Dotson with Terry Terry McClaren now at

36:22

an Austin Ackland. Brian Robinson in the backfield.

36:24

They did a ton of graphics on the

36:27

defensive side of the ball as well. And

36:29

then for Dan Quinn, you come in as

36:31

a head coach, and he's a defensive guy,

36:33

defensive coordinator for the Cowboys a year ago.

36:35

You draft a quarterback that you probably hate

36:37

to game plan against. And now, you get

36:39

a guy like Jayden Daniels, and he's so

36:41

electric with the ball when he pulls it

36:43

down, but it can make every single throw.

36:45

I'm fascinated. I'm excited to just see this

36:47

all unfold. I think Daniel Jeremiah said this

36:49

became like a situation where you're watching him

36:51

and you're bored of death. And now, this

36:53

must watch TV. So I'm fascinated. I'm excited

36:55

to see the watching commanders in Jayden Daniels

36:57

get to work. Jayden, who are you rolling

36:59

with? Look, I could retread.

37:02

I could expand. I talked ad nauseam yesterday about

37:04

my thoughts on Caleb Williams and the obvious success

37:06

that he's going to have with some of the

37:08

pieces around them. So I'm going to take this

37:10

just a little bit differently. I

37:12

was all out on Bo Nicks with the Broncos.

37:14

I'm like, what are we doing? But you look

37:17

at their quarterback room as it stands. Yes, they

37:19

went out and got Zach Wilson, but to me,

37:21

that's a big, big wild card. After

37:23

listening to Bo Nicks, gathering a little

37:25

bit more information on Bo, I'm now

37:27

at least understanding why

37:30

Sean Payton was all in. And

37:33

let me walk you through it a little bit. Talking to

37:35

a quarterback evaluator, look, he's drawing

37:37

comps to Drew Brees. Obviously, he's bigger than

37:39

him, but he's a 75% passer. Brees,

37:42

at this point in his career, was about a 60%

37:44

passer. This is

37:46

a guy who's got a lot of

37:48

experience in different offenses. Obviously, he started

37:50

out in Auburn. Then he was at

37:52

Oregon. But more importantly, the thing that

37:54

matters the most to Sean Payton is

37:56

the way that you digest information and

37:58

process it fast. sounds like,

38:01

bonus is that guy. They speak the

38:03

same quarterback language. He spoke about a

38:05

time at the Peyton Manning passing at

39:26

it is draft weekend. The weekend dreams are made

39:28

up. If you have talent, the league will find

39:38

you. It doesn't matter where you're from,

39:40

how you grew up. And the gentleman

39:42

to my left right now, this is

39:44

Travis Clay. What's up Travis. How

39:47

are you doing? I'm doing great. What

39:49

I want to be. You come from England. You're going

39:51

to class this set up for us today. Did you

39:53

bring English weather with you? Is that how it feels?

39:56

That's how it feels right now. Hopefully it picks

39:58

up a little bit. It's

40:00

pretty rough out here. Can we get you

40:02

some tea or some crumpets or anything else

40:04

British? I like coffee. I

40:07

like coffee. Yeah. I'm not really

40:09

a fan of tea. The only time you'll see England

40:11

compared to Detroit, Michigan, but we've done it. Travis Clayton's

40:13

story is amazing. You're a huge dude,

40:15

offensive lineman, looking to join the NFL, but your

40:17

path is very, very unconventional. How did you come

40:20

up to start playing football? Because I know it

40:22

was just recently. Yeah. So

40:24

I was actually part of the NFL Academy back

40:27

in 2019. We were the first phase of

40:29

people, first group of lads that

40:31

they made the Academy for. And

40:33

some things didn't work out along the way, but

40:35

luckily for me, I still get some contact with

40:37

the coaches, the personnel, and

40:39

I've been given this great opportunity over the last two

40:42

years. And they find you guys,

40:44

they teach you the game. Someone can call your

40:46

name. What is your

40:48

game? What is your game? What is your game? What

40:50

is your game? What is your game? What is your

40:52

game? What is your game? What

40:54

is your game? I

40:57

thought that was incredible. Yeah, that was since January. But

41:01

in regards to actual playing football, I've

41:03

never played a single minute of

41:05

football. You've

41:10

never played a down of a real

41:12

football game that you've trained and you

41:14

have incredible genetics. Sometimes that's all

41:16

it takes. Is that exciting for you to say? See,

41:21

it's incredible. games.

41:23

He's the most experienced guy you could ever see. And then there's

41:25

you. It comes from all the performance. And

41:28

he was the basketball player. Basketball, basketball, basketball. I think I want

41:30

to try football. Yeah,

41:32

I did. I think I did. I think I did.

41:34

I think I did. I think I did. I

41:37

think I did. I think I did. I

41:39

think I did. I think I did. I think I did.

41:41

I think I did. I think I did.

42:00

school, a little bit of cricket, but

42:02

never tried it outside of school. I

42:05

love it. I love that you're here. Tell us about

42:07

the International Player Path, but you can see it right

42:09

here on the shirt. What have they

42:12

done for you? And would we be having this

42:14

conversation right in front of the draft stage if

42:16

you hadn't been part of that? Yeah, so without

42:18

this program, I would not be excited right now.

42:21

The whole point in the program is to find

42:23

athletes across the world that are based in the

42:25

United States. And the attributes

42:27

that they have, they can build up there

42:29

in the NFL. It's incredible. And you're

42:32

at home, you know all the familiar faces, you know

42:34

Kayla Williams on the day too, guys. Look

42:36

at someone like Jordan Bailata who came from Australia

42:38

who is now one of the stars. I'm one

42:40

of the best teams in the league. Someone like

42:42

you could be the next to go. How do

42:45

you feel this weekend? Do you hope

42:47

maybe someone will invite you or draft you? How

42:50

are your dreams right now? Yeah, so it's

42:52

exciting. A little bit nervous, but fingers

42:54

crossed everything goes well. I get dropped it.

42:57

It's so cool. And this is why we're

42:59

here this weekend. This is what the aftermath of

43:02

the draft is about. It comes all the way from

43:04

England. We don't know if you know somebody who

43:06

plays football and maybe hasn't been through the conventional

43:08

path. They will find you Travis. I'm really rooting

43:10

for you. I think it's a very exciting story.

43:12

And I hope you can make some plays on

43:14

Sunday. Right. Let me see the handshake. Again. Right.

43:17

Right. Right. His hands on the shoulder. Super

43:19

classy guy. Get a huge guy. Don't get

43:22

confused with all the play. That's the greatest

43:24

stuff. He will plow you over. And that's why

43:26

I see him. I just want to bring him in. Thank you, Travis.

the NFL draft on NFL Network.

43:49

Now last time I tried running a 40 time Jason I think it

43:52

was like a 5 6 7. I was proud

43:54

of it. It was respectable. I did it Pro Bowl.

43:56

What do you think you've still gotten you. I

44:00

think I can still crack four-four, do a little bit

44:02

of training. Jane, you tackled the dummy, you ran a

44:04

40. Kyle, you making

44:06

a face, do you not believe in my four-four?

44:09

No, four-four. No,

44:12

I do not believe you can run a four-four. I

44:15

mean, but Jason, listen, go out in your backyard, we're

44:17

tape measuring a camera, and let's find out. No, clock

44:19

it. This sounds like a

44:21

GMFB segment. This is, I'm all over it.

44:23

I can't wait for this. Now I feel

44:25

like I've been challenged. What I do love

44:28

is God getting drafted, and we saw my

44:30

guy Max Melton from the Arizona Cardinals. He's

44:32

going there second round. And this is the

44:34

Arizona Cardinals, this is the PR guy, drafted

44:36

in AZ number 43. Max

44:38

Melton, the highest draft pick from Rutgers

44:41

since Devin McCordie went

44:43

27th overall to New England. The crazy

44:45

thing about this, Max Melton goes 43,

44:47

Dev went 27. Max Melton

44:49

is a way better player than McCordie ever

44:51

could think he could be. So the Arizona

44:53

Cardinals got an absolute great one, and Masey

44:56

I support the GM with the Cardinals in

44:58

New England when they got Dev as well.

45:00

So cool little story. I like

45:02

it. What do you got, Jane? Well,

45:04

I just wanted to say it was fun to

45:06

be back here on this show with you guys.

45:09

I'm normally doing the Dallas Cowboys. It felt very

45:11

weird, unique, not to be stuck at that facility

45:13

for four days, but thanks for letting me

45:15

sit in the chair for Jamie. Awesome, we'll have you anytime. It's

45:18

tough to do remote shows like this. We're so happy

45:20

to have you. Guys, I've done the Red Wings and

45:22

the Tigers. Jason, I'm going to go get the D12

45:24

tattoo on my forearm. So I got to go, I

45:27

got an appointment at the parlor. So I'm all in.

45:29

Love you guys. Thank you, Detroit. Go

45:32

sleep. You

45:35

go into your shower feeling tired,

45:38

but as soon as you reach for the Irish spring, Your

fresh, unmistakable Irish spring scent zings
