Well everyone, and welcome to another edition

0:02

of the NFL Draft Triple Take, presented

0:04

by U P m C. Mike pursued

0:07

of Matt Williamson and Dale Lally,

0:09

the three amigos of draft prep.

0:12

We have been getting you ready. We will continue

0:14

getting you ready, and that process will continue

0:16

today with our Triple Take look

0:18

at Linebackers. The NFL Draft Triple

0:20

Take presented by U

0:23

P m C. And guys, we've been getting into

0:25

the defense of late and

0:27

uh it's deep, and uh

0:29

it's intriguing. Uh. Position

0:32

by position, it just looks like, Uh,

0:34

Dale, if you need some help on d this

0:36

is the year to go find it. Yeah,

0:38

and I know you know everybody knows you're the guys

0:41

at the top are in this. In this inside

0:43

linebacker class, I think we probably all have Devin

0:46

Lloyd and the Kobe Dean up top, and

0:48

then after that it's almost like the

0:50

edge rushers, where there

0:52

are probably eight

0:54

to ten guys that they could have made your our

0:56

top five. I mean, this was really a hard class

0:58

to trim here. Depending on what

1:00

you're looking at, I could I could have easily gone

1:03

to ten players deep at the inside

1:05

linebacker position, and they're probably all ten

1:07

of them go, you know, the middle

1:09

of day two and up are

1:12

you know, these guys are all gone by the middle of the day too.

1:14

So it's a really intriguing class.

1:16

There's big ones, they're small ones, there's

1:19

all of them are fast. That's

1:21

just it's just amazing that that

1:23

uh you know, the transformation that's gone

1:25

on in the college football game. Uh

1:28

you know to where a few years ago you

1:30

really had to if you wanted one of these

1:33

off ball linebackers that could run, you had to

1:35

go get them early. Now there's the

1:37

drafted just littered with them. Yeah, there might

1:39

not big Matt, there might not be a Darius Leonard in

1:41

there, but uh boy, there's a

1:43

lot of To Dale's point, there's a couple of years

1:45

ago there was two that everybody was,

1:47

you know, you gotta get one of those guys, and

1:50

now you know, now there's more to choose from.

1:53

There's three at Georgia.

1:55

It's crazy. Yeah. Obviously we talked about

1:57

Georgia a lot with the defensive front um.

2:00

I don't love the top, but

2:02

as we talked about on the drive all the time,

2:05

I don't hesitate to bring it up every show. If I can,

2:07

I am utterly infatuated with the

2:09

day to linebacker crop crop. I

2:12

mean, there are so many of them,

2:14

as Dale said, there's the former safeties

2:16

that are two pounds a fly

2:18

around the field. There's you know, four

2:21

of my five and four of my top five

2:23

or over six two long

2:25

arms, unbelievable testers,

2:27

a lot of good football ahead of this group. Yeah,

2:30

let's uh, let's get into it. And

2:33

Dale, why don't you lead us

2:35

off? You've got a pretty interesting guy.

2:37

Uh, linebacker from Wisconsin wild

2:39

who who who knew? Who knew? Yeah? Leo

2:42

Chanal uh six three two fifty

2:44

pounds at the combine ran a four five three

2:47

forty ten years

2:49

ago. Leo Channel at six two

2:51

fifty pounds running a four or five three forty

2:54

is a first round draft pick. I

2:56

mean the guy had eight eight sacks last year,

2:58

eighteen and a half tackles for a lot hundred

3:00

and fifteen tackles. He's

3:02

a run stuffer and probably

3:04

you know, he's gonna have to learn a little bit of the past

3:06

coverage stuff, but he's

3:09

got the traits to do it, and

3:11

you know there are things that you can do with him in

3:13

the meantime. Have him rushed the pass up the

3:15

mid. I likened him to being a bigger,

3:17

faster version of Vince Williams,

3:19

like much, a much bigger faster

3:22

version of Vince Weed. Let's sing up

3:24

the middle. He is unbelievable. He is just

3:26

unbelievable, blitzing, blitzing the A and B gaps.

3:29

You know what I like about him? Not only is he your number

3:31

five inside linebacker off ball linebacker.

3:33

He wore number five. There

3:36

it is for Bucky Badger. And you know what

3:38

that makes him? Sal number

3:40

five? Nice,

3:45

gonna be here all weeks. Please stip your bartenders

3:48

and waitress. It's matt Uh.

3:51

You went between the headges. I guess you need

3:53

a defensive guy. Go down to Georgia. Pick one. Yeah,

3:55

I'll take the six four guy that's a little over two

3:58

hundred forty pounds that runs like a d year

4:00

long arms kuay walker, Um

4:03

again, I mean kindall's the other one

4:05

that didn't make my list. And we've already

4:07

mentioned you know that's the backup,

4:10

right, Yeah, he's the backup, the

4:12

backup right. And that's what I was gonna say is it's

4:14

hard to even get on the field for these guys. He may

4:16

play a higher percentage of snaps in the pros

4:19

than he did. Yeah,

4:22

that's real. I went

4:24

off the board a little bit. Uh. Troy

4:26

Anderson, Montana State. Love

4:29

Troy Anderson six three to forty

4:31

three. And he just keeps doing it. You

4:33

know, if you play the place like Montana State,

4:35

you're supposed to dominate. He did. Then you're

4:37

supposed to go to the senior bowling and stick

4:40

it to the big boys, and he did that. And

4:42

then he went to the Combine and just look great. Uh.

4:44

For he's fascinating. I know

4:47

if you know much about his backstory, Mike, he

4:49

was a quarterback for them, and a running

4:51

back and running back and good and

4:53

a good one. He has

4:56

a record for touchdowns in a season and

4:58

he's a linebacker. It's just an unbelievable

5:01

story. And then you know ran in the low four threes

5:03

at the Combine. Um. Just a fascinating

5:06

guy and and has sized the

5:08

whole deal. Again, tough leaving guys like

5:10

that off my list, but it just shows you how

5:12

deep this position is. My four

5:14

and Matt's for Chad MoMA of Wyoming,

5:17

and really that took a look at him. Sixty

5:19

nine looks a lot like Logan Wilson

5:22

played Logan Wilson's position of Miami

5:24

Logan Wilson did really well as a brook. Okay,

5:27

run it back, but I think we know what

5:29

we're gonna get and you'll take that

5:31

all day long. I mean it's a really good linebacker

5:33

the Bengals found. Um Muma

5:35

is another tall guy, also a

5:37

former safety. Excellent and coverage.

5:40

One thing fort vertical too.

5:42

I mean, it's not like he's just a tenacious

5:45

dude, which he is. He's also a very explosive

5:47

athlete. One thing that worries me a little

5:49

bit about him is his waist.

5:52

He's kind of a high waisted guy, and when people

5:54

go after his legs, they chop him down a little

5:56

bit. That's something he's gonna have to kind of pay attention to. Tail.

5:59

You're number four is the Moon Clark

6:01

from L s U. Yeah, I mean

6:04

you want to talk about leadership, This guy

6:06

was given a number eighteen jersey at l s U

6:08

two years in a row. It's

6:10

never happened before. Nobody's

6:13

ever gotten the eighteen jersey at L s U two years

6:15

in a row. Uh. A hundred thirty

6:17

five tackles last year, five and a half sacks,

6:20

an interception, fifteen tackles for a

6:22

loss, uh, four or five, seven,

6:24

forty at the combine. I mean he just does everything

6:26

well. Uh you know, maybe not gonna

6:28

wow you, but he's got good size at at six

6:30

two to thirty nine. And then I mentioned

6:33

that he wore the eighteen jersey at l s U

6:35

two years in a row. I mean for

6:37

people to show, no, that is there uh

6:41

kind of players player, the heart

6:43

and soul guy. Uh, the guy

6:45

everybody loves and follows, and it's

6:47

a big deal down there. Uh to where

6:49

that number I did. It was a center a couple of years ago.

6:52

Uh, he couldn't wear it because he was an offensive lineman.

6:54

But he wore a patch. Was the name Qui

6:58

Barrier, quis Art or Quissonberry.

7:00

Yeah it was Quissonberry. It was um

7:03

yeah he had ye.

7:07

Now Quissinberry was a closer for the Royal

7:09

spec Yeah yeah,

7:12

yeah, that three. I love him. I mean

7:14

for all those reasons. He ran

7:16

a four or five seven. That's actually one

7:18

of the things I like about doing these shows, and you come

7:20

up with these little tidbits about the college programs

7:23

and the little traditions and whatnot. I

7:26

went with my number three. I

7:28

went with a guy you guys did not, Uh,

7:31

Christian Harris from Alabama. Uh,

7:33

six ft twenty six, a smaller guy.

7:35

But when I watched him, he just looked

7:38

like he knew what was going on everywhere

7:40

at all times. He was able to react and

7:42

figure out where he needed to be. And again, uh

7:45

burst and and and he gets there in a hurry.

7:47

Hed he not only covers, he makes plagues on

7:49

the ball. Uh.

7:52

I don't think you're gonna go wrong with an Alabama

7:54

defender, a highly rated one, and

7:56

uh I pick him. I

7:59

agree that. Uh. And

8:01

then our numbers two and one. Uh,

8:04

everybody's got the same thing. Uh.

8:06

Dale, you went with na Kobe Dean at

8:08

Georgia and two and Devin

8:10

Lloyd at one. Matt, you had

8:12

it the other way, Devin Lloyd at two and

8:14

the Kobe Dean at one. And I've gotten

8:17

to Kobe Dean at two and Devin

8:19

Lloyd at one. I don't think it really

8:21

matters. I had a really tough time picking,

8:23

and to be honest, I kind of I'm harping

8:26

on the negatives with both. Unfortunately,

8:28

you know, again I said, I don't love the top of this class.

8:31

These are two really good players, don't get me wrong,

8:33

but I would have liked Lloyd to test a little bit

8:35

better, you know. I mean he was okay,

8:37

but didn't blow the doors off there. And maybe

8:39

you talk only only the four

8:42

sixes he ran. That was it FO

8:44

six And then Dean didn't

8:46

work out. But he's so little,

8:48

you know. Like my my opinion

8:51

of both these guys over the weekend with the

8:53

combine went down a little

8:55

because Dean just standing there next to the

8:57

other linebackers looked very

8:59

very small and and and lean. But

9:01

boy, I mean when you protect them like Georgia

9:04

does with the unbelievable guys in front of him,

9:06

he like makes every play. And

9:08

I think you know something to appreciate about Lloyd.

9:12

You know, we've talked a lot about Georgia during

9:14

these shows and Alabama

9:17

every year we've done these shows. I think that

9:19

Utah program pretty

9:21

underrated. They got a pretty good rep for toughness

9:23

and knock your block off, and accountability

9:26

and compete and a lot of those

9:28

intangible qualities that a lot of programs

9:30

aspired to. I think, uh, I agree,

9:32

I think you taw us an underrated program and

9:35

uh, that's kind of what broke that, and that

9:37

broke the tie for me and the Kobe Dean dot

9:39

not really doing anything at the combine. Yeah,

9:41

I mean, if you look at it, devn Lloyd fills up

9:44

all the categories hundred eleven tackles,

9:46

seven sacks, four interceptions last year.

9:48

I mean, what more could the guy do other than

9:50

you know, serve everybody hot dogs at halftime? Uh

9:53

utah. Just he did a lot of good

9:55

stuff. Forty three tackles for a loss

9:57

in his last three seasons. I mean he just he just said

10:00

up camp in the backfield and lives there. He's

10:02

a one man show. Yeah,

10:04

so plenty to choose from there as

10:07

well. And uh, what

10:09

other thing about n Kobe Dean? He was a

10:11

mechanical engineering major. You

10:14

know, you're you're a major college football player

10:16

and you're a mechanical engineering major.

10:19

That is not easy to pull off, and you win

10:21

the Buckets Award, and you win the Buckets Award. I

10:23

would imagine if you're a mechanical engineering

10:25

major and you're not a college football player,

10:28

that is not but

10:31

my pay grade. I know that. Guys,

10:35

this is fun. We will do it again soon.

10:37

I want to thank everybody for finding

10:39

us, however and wherever you did, and remind

10:41

one and all that all of these

10:44

programs can be found on all

10:46

of the Steelers social media platforms.

10:48

Until next time. For Dale Lally and Matt

10:50

Williamson, I'm Mike PURSUITA. This has

10:52

been the NFL Draft Triple Take, presented

10:55

by U P m C
