Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition

0:02

of NFL Draft Triple Take, presented

0:04

by U P m C. I'm Mike pursued

0:06

it from the DV Morning Show and Steelers dot Com

0:09

joined us always by Dale Wally

0:11

of SNR and Matt Williamson of

0:14

s n R. Matt and Dale are the SNRs

0:17

tag team for the drive, which you

0:20

can catch on SNR and other Steelers

0:22

social media platforms, and the three of us

0:24

have been doing this, uh for a number

0:26

of This is our second or third year and I

0:28

can't tell you how many uh these type of shows

0:31

we've done. Yeah.

0:34

Yeah, we're cranking them out in our sleep, but

0:36

we love doing it. Thank you for finding

0:38

us uh and giving a listen

0:41

to what we have to say in this edition

0:43

of Triple Take about edge rushers.

0:45

Man, this was a fun evaluation and

0:48

there's a lot of these guys, uh

0:51

Man. I guess just a natural evolution.

0:54

If college football they're just gonna throw

0:56

it all over the yard, then you're gonna rush the passer

0:58

and figure out ways to do At football,

1:01

defenses are figuring out how to rush

1:03

the pass or off the edge. Yeah, and

1:06

we did the defensive tackle Triple Take

1:08

and you mentioned, boy, how freaky

1:10

those guys are and you just watch a combine.

1:13

Well, this group takes it up to another level.

1:15

And I think this is the strongest position

1:18

in the entire draft. And to be

1:20

honest, I think there's eight edge guys

1:23

that are gonna deserve first round

1:25

consideration, and five of them might

1:27

even go in the first half of the first round. Yeah,

1:30

this is a crazy talented position

1:32

this year. And and a lot of times

1:34

you see these guys and we've had the

1:36

kind of project. Well he has he he

1:39

has all these measurables, but he didn't have the

1:41

the production we've seen

1:43

some of those guys in recent years. These

1:45

guys both had the just

1:47

ridiculous they

1:50

displayed at the combine and

1:52

also had a lot of production in college.

1:55

So it's it's a really fun evaluation.

1:57

And it wouldn't surprise me not having seen your

2:00

guys list before we we've done this, um

2:03

the list that you two put together. If we have

2:05

about we mentioned about eight guys, as

2:08

Matt mentioned in in this talk, in our each

2:10

of our top five year. Yeah, it's

2:12

and and they're really fun to uh

2:15

watch the highlights and the way these

2:17

guys play with the energy and the

2:20

amazing closing speed and

2:23

aggression that they display. Uh.

2:25

A lot of teams are gonna get get fat on

2:27

defense in this draft. It's a good year to

2:29

Nita pass Rushier. Matt. Let's start

2:32

with you because you and I have the

2:34

same number five. Uh.

2:36

Georgia guy once removed

2:39

Jermaine Johnson, the second of Florida

2:41

State who left Georgia and then blew

2:44

it up for Florida State in the A c

2:46

C. I could see watching that Georgia

2:48

defense why he left and went somewhere else.

2:50

But boy, he played with the Georgia

2:53

defender type of dominance

2:55

and production and impact.

2:57

This year it didn't he Yeah, And I don't hold

2:59

it transfer against him at all. I mean, considering

3:02

the team he left, the defense he left.

3:04

He was a dominant player for Florida State

3:07

this year. He may have been the best player

3:09

at the Senior Bowl. He's long,

3:11

he's thick, he's very physical.

3:14

He's already a great run defender.

3:16

I mean he puts his hands on you and really stuns

3:18

you, but can also run around you. A

3:20

lot of energy, a lot of physicality

3:22

from Johnson. And you've got Treyvon

3:25

Walker of GEI Yeah,

3:27

he's one of the guys that kind of forced Jermaine Johnson

3:29

to to transfer and and Trayvon Walker

3:33

uh two hundred seventy two

3:35

pounds at the NFL scouting combine

3:37

ran a four five. I mean

3:39

that's just unheard of. Uh. You

3:42

know, he had sacks in both the college playoff

3:44

games last season and wins over Michigan

3:46

and Alabama. You know, so that that's

3:48

production against high level competition,

3:50

and that

3:53

would be Michigan, Mike, Yeah,

3:55

I just I thought you might have forgotten about

3:58

that. But he's big enough to take

4:00

on tackles in the run game, but he's

4:02

fast enough to beat them around the edge. He just turned

4:04

twenty one in December, which I think

4:06

matters. I mean, this is still a young, ascending player.

4:09

And you know, you have it's it's a nice

4:11

marriage of skill and

4:14

in athleticism. And you've

4:16

got Dale, You've got Jermaine Johnson. Number

4:19

four, Matt, you went with David

4:21

A. Jabo of Michigan, the uh

4:24

guy from what is it Nigeria Villa Scotland.

4:27

I forget his path exactly. That's the one

4:30

that's it. That's it, that is and

4:33

real quick, I'm gonna I have Trayvon Walker

4:35

three, who Dale just talked about, and

4:37

the Jabo and Walker to me, I

4:40

don't know what they don't know yet. I mean as

4:42

terms of pass rushers, they don't

4:44

have really any plan. They just

4:47

kind of come off the ball and are a better athlete

4:49

than those around them and still make all

4:51

kinds of plays. And Ojabo

4:53

is very raw and reminds me a

4:55

lot of oh Way from

4:57

Penn State who went to the Ravens at the end of the for round,

5:00

except he had yeah,

5:02

right, like seven four. He's got all

5:04

the traits, but he also produced

5:06

for in the Big ten where oh wait,

5:09

didn't um again. Very flexible,

5:11

all sorts of multiple clay here and he plays

5:13

hard. Yeah. He had two two

5:16

and a half sacks against Wisconsin last year.

5:18

You know, Wisconsin is known for their offensive lineman.

5:20

He had to two sacks eaching games against

5:23

Michigan State and Penn

5:25

State last year. I mean that that's high

5:27

level production against against well, some

5:29

of those are pretty good teams. Yeah, I've

5:34

got George carl Off to superdue

5:36

is my number four. Uh. This guy, this

5:38

guy impresses me with athleticism

5:40

and with power. He can you can you can

5:42

walk the blocker back into the quarterback, actually

5:45

shove him back into the quarterback. He can win

5:47

with speed rush. Uh made a lot

5:49

of really reactionary plays,

5:51

tip picks and blocking kicks and athletic

5:54

type of things, a little bit of a history of

5:56

past rush superdue. So I went with

5:58

him there. And now you guys can tell me where I'm

6:00

wrong here, because I've been listening

6:02

since mid season about

6:05

how Aidan Hutchinson is maybe

6:07

the first overall pick, and uh, he's at

6:09

least the first or second overall

6:11

pick. And uh, he's the best this, and

6:13

he's the best at He's a highmar Trophy runner

6:15

up guy, and I ain't

6:18

seen it. I'm not saying that he is not

6:20

a very good player in a group of

6:22

very good players. But I almost put him three

6:24

on my list just on principle. Uh,

6:28

you know, great game against Ohio State, three

6:30

sacks and that was Michigan's biggest win

6:32

in ten years. But I

6:35

see him as one of many not heading shoulders

6:37

above Matt What am I not seeing? No? Agree,

6:41

It doesn't shock me that you'd say that considering

6:43

his on the mater, But I feel the same

6:45

way that serious I'm down the middle on that. I

6:47

mean, I was, I was banging

6:49

the Devin Bus term a couple of years ago. If I

6:51

see a player, I see a player. But I just maybe

6:54

I heard one too many times how great this guy is. I

6:56

don't know. I just it seems like he got anointed,

6:59

and that's everybody's story and they're sticking to it.

7:01

Yeah, honestly, I have him closer

7:03

to Jermaine Johnson or car

7:06

Loft this than I do the clear number

7:08

one, even though he is number one on my board,

7:11

and again, this class is awesome, but

7:13

he's not Chase Young or a Bosa brother

7:16

or Miles Garrett. Um.

7:18

Yeah, I think he's a very good player.

7:20

I think he's safety player. I'm

7:22

not. I didn't come here. Yeah,

7:25

I didn't come in to bury him, but I just to

7:27

me, he's one of many, not but one

7:29

and then everybody else. That's this

7:32

entire draft, though, guys, is it not. I mean, you know,

7:34

we're still talking about who the number one overall pick

7:36

is going to be because there's not a clear cut number

7:38

one guy. The one thing I'll say about

7:40

Aiden Hutchinson that really stood

7:42

out to me was his six seven three

7:45

uh three cone drill at the NFL Scouting

7:47

Combine. It's the third fascist for any

7:49

player to combine for

7:52

any player not not defensive

7:54

lineman or edge guys, any player

7:56

six seventh three is special. M his

8:00

first ten yards are really good. In the forty two he

8:02

has he does have some burst and things

8:04

like that for sure. UM a

8:06

little bit short armed, he can play a little high.

8:09

He's a really good prospect. But I'm with you, Mike, I

8:11

don't think he's a special prospect. Yeah, so

8:13

I kind of put him three just to just to put them

8:15

three. I've got I've got Cavon

8:17

Thibodeau from Oregon is my number

8:20

two. Uh, Dale, you've got the

8:22

same guy number two, and Matt, you've got the same guy

8:24

number two. And it seemed like

8:26

it made a little bit of a ruffle

8:29

when he ran at the combine but didn't work

8:31

out. But man, I think this guy's

8:34

really, really good. And one

8:36

of the reasons they said he didn't work out at the combine

8:38

is he wants to do the linebacker

8:41

drills and the defensive line drills at

8:43

Oregon's pro day. This guy could be an outside

8:45

linebacker dropping back, or he could be an edge

8:48

rusher. Yeah. I mean, I

8:50

mean that's that's really all these guys if

8:52

you look at them, because of the size that they had, there

8:54

aren't any There aren't any of these two forty

8:56

pound guys here. These guys are all two fifty plus.

8:59

Uh TOI those two fifty four. Uh,

9:01

there's a lot of upside there. He just turned twenty

9:04

one in December, so again you're getting

9:06

a guy who is still

9:08

ascending as a player. And Mike,

9:10

to your point, I think he's best, you

9:12

know, playing out a two point stands, you know, sort of

9:14

a Steeler outside linebacker type. Yeah.

9:16

And I brought that up because I mean, Hutchinson, you're not gonna

9:18

have him dropping back. He's

9:20

coming off to you. He's going forward, not backward.

9:23

Uh My Number one, you guys supposed to have

9:25

Hutchinson. I picked

9:28

Treyvon Walker. And here's why I did it. UHDL

9:31

you mentioned the ridiculous time in the forty

9:34

Here's what Daniel Jeremiah

9:36

had to say about him during the combine

9:39

quote. A creative defensive coordinator

9:41

is gonna look at Treyvon Walker and say the

9:43

world has completely opened up. You

9:46

can play him inside, outside, you

9:48

can rush him, drop him, you can play him

9:50

on the ball, off the ball. You want to be able

9:52

to give quarterbacks different looks and not show your

9:54

hand. A chess piece like that allows

9:57

you to play that way. I'm

9:59

in Yeah, I don't disagree

10:01

with it, But to you guys point earlier,

10:04

I mean, the difference between number

10:06

one and number five in this group really

10:10

not much, not much

10:12

at all. I mean, these guys are all first round

10:14

guys and probably top

10:17

fifteen to eight team pick guys. I

10:19

mean, that's what we're talking about here. They're gonna go

10:21

quick. Yeah, yeah, it's it's

10:24

it is the uh. I

10:26

guess we're all agree with the strength position

10:29

of what is very very deep draft

10:31

without you know, forget that there's not that marquee

10:33

quarterback guy. There's a lot of talent to be had.

10:36

Absolutely. I just think that, you know that.

10:38

I think defensively, this draft

10:41

is maybe a little bit of a game changer. Might

10:44

not have the star power of some previous drafts,

10:46

but you're gonna be getting guys and you know, into the

10:48

third and fourth rounds who have an

10:50

opportunity to come in and start right away for a

10:52

lot of teams. Yeah, Predicting

10:55

who next year's defensive Rookie of the Year is gonna

10:57

be Is oh Man select

11:00

with that he used to be. You comes in the

11:02

league, I who win it? You know? Likewise,

11:04

it would be the same way for the offensive Rookie of the Year

11:08

because there's no quarterback. Yeah,

11:10

are you guys sure they haven't given that defensive

11:12

award to Hutchinson yet? Pretty

11:15

sure? Yeah?

11:18

He probably will learn if that's gonna do it for our

11:20

Edge Russia analysis, I wanna

11:22

mind everybody. You can catch programs

11:24

such as this one on all of the Steelers

11:27

social media platforms, and we're

11:29

gonna keep cranking them out right up

11:31

until the Draft. So, however and

11:33

wherever you found us, please continue

11:35

to do so until next time. For Matt

11:37

Williamson and Dale Aally Mike Pursua,

11:40

you've been listening, watching, reading,

11:42

immersing yourself a thousand percent

11:45

into the NFL Draft. Triple Take presented
