Finding Cleo raises so many important topics about the mistreatment of indigenous people in Canada, topics that I'd never known about before. Connie Walker is doing an incredible job at giving people a voice when they otherwise went unheard. The premise and the discoveries during this investigative podcast is incredible & a real eye opener. However, I found myself feeling very uncomfortable at some parts of the podcast, as if I'm invading on people's privacy. I know it's a reporter's job to dig into these mysteries, but I occasionally found they crossed a fine line between being inquisitive and invasive. Otherwise Finding Cleo was a strong season, and I'm glad it gave Cleo's siblings some form of closure.
Hosted by Connie Walker who is a senior investigator who takes on cases of Canada’s Indigenous woman and girls who go missing and are murdered. The second Season is Finding Cleo and it's a absolute gut wrenching story of the 70's scoop.
The topic of this true crime podcast is important and sheds a light on the mistreatment of Canada's indigenous people. HOWEVER, the host, Connie Walker, makes this series almost unbearable. She crosses way too many lines, is super invasive, and definitely tip toes along the legal lines (um, since when can we record people after they explicitly ask us not to?). She is also clearly biased and only wants this narrative perceived one way. And while the second season is definitely better than the first, they are both long, drawn out, and consist of anecdotes that really don't need to be included.
One of the best podcast series I've heard. It's moving, informative, personal and educational. Literally one of the best!
Very well researched and the host is solid! No issues hearing any of the recordings either!
Support and listen.
Eye opening, gripping and heartbreaking. They'll never be able to cover every case - but this podcast educated me on huge part of history that I had never even heard of. Let them get you started, then keep doing your own work.
This is a decent podcast. The story is sad and there is a wealth of information on the tragic and heartbreaking mistreatment of natives in Canada. But I personally found the presentation pretty frustrating and overstuffed with filler. The first episode or two are great, but the rest is slow and full of awkward build ups to interviews that sometimes happen and sometimes don’t. Some insight into the journalist’s feelings and preparation are fine here and there but there is just so much time spent listening to Connie waiting to approach someone or trying to get ahold of people on the phone; it’s off putting. It also repeats information a LOT... I had to double check multiple times that I hadn’t accidentally gone back an episode. I just wish the podcast was a little more straightforward/to the point and that the interviews were presented in a less awkward/uncomfortable way. You don’t have to drag out the story to make an impact, sometimes short and simple packs a big punch.
I only listened to S1 and it's not very impressive. They were filled with unnecessary filler and anecdotes after the first two episodes. It was difficult for me to extract important clues from the random chats and conversations, and I grew tired of hearing about Connie's attempts to reach out to someone, which sometimes felt invasive and uncomfortable. The recording quality of the phone calls was not clear, which made it even harder to understand the information being presented. The presentation can definitely be better.
