For our first episode of Mindful Makeup, Tellie talks to Den Bengzon (@kobecow), a former beauty editor who took up social sciences, but fell into doing what she loves anyway. Beauty writing, obviously. In this episode, we talk about:
- Falling out of love when love becomes work - As we see in The Devil Wears Prada, the beauty editor life is not that glamorous. It's fun to imagine being an editor for a day, but the rigid demands of work for something you want to enjoy freely can be quite toxic.
- PR etiquette - How should you treat gifts from brands? Setting disclosure policies is a good start, so that a writer can properly convey biases (and surprisingly, objectivity) when speaking to their audience.
- Your value as a content creator - It's easy to feel small when making a space for yourself among brands and beauty communities. Appreciate your own time and effort, and learn to assert your worth.
