Finding the main idea of a piece of writing can be a challenge, but it is an essential reading comprehension skill for you as students to develop. Finding the main idea of a story or book helps us know what the author wants us as readers to take away from the piece of writing. We have worked on finding the main idea of short stories or small paragraphs but now we are going to further our understanding to find the main idea of the book, Number the Stars written by Lois Lowry. While reading this book you will find key details in the story that support the idea of bravery that is shown in the writing. To get our brains going for next class I would like you to think of a time when you had to be brave or show bravery. Whether it was making it through your first day of school or braving it at a dentist appointment. I would like you write a short paragraph or two on your brave experience to share with the class tomorrow!
