We honor Black History Month by discussing women of color. Billie Holiday, or often referred to as “Lady Day” is perhaps one of the greatest jazz musicians to have ever lived. She gave jazz fanatics songs to last a lifetime. Her melodious voice and trademark tilting backward of the head will always be remembered fondly.

Although she thrived at her craft, the “Strange Fruit” singer who grew up impoverished, pattern of abusive relationships and drug abuse. Like many great artists she roared through life. She remained faithful to the sub culture in which she found herself and never asked for anything, and certainly never asked for permission.

This episode we are suggesting Equal Justice Initiatives. EJI works with communities that have been marginalized by poverty and discouraged by unequal treatment. They committed to changing the narrative about race in America.
