2:00

2:18

we're here five days a week plus for

2:20

you. You Locos we love you and we

2:22

know you guys know that. So that

2:25

said, how does this

2:27

O-Line room shake out? What does it look

2:30

like at the end of the day? Is there

2:32

enough volume in it right now? That's

2:34

going to be coming up later in the show. CJ Hanson's

2:37

role as kind of the

2:39

interior Andrew Wiley as

2:41

I'm going to call him. Plus, we're

2:43

going to start right now with the

2:45

newest guy that can be

2:47

in a familiar role. Hunter Norsdott

2:50

is possibly going to be a guy that can

2:52

play all three interior positions. I think Hanson can

2:54

as well, but that's all right. I don't

2:57

think it's as natural for him, nor that as

2:59

a snapper. We looked at that at rookie camp.

3:01

Can he be the next Nick Allegretti?

3:03

I'm betting that he can. Is there

3:07

something that gives you pause about that? No,

3:10

I think that's exactly what they drafted him for.

3:12

And I think that's exactly the plan for him

3:14

is to be Nick Allegretti and

3:17

potentially be a starter in 2025. Maybe

3:20

be a starter early in 2024, depending

3:22

on how injuries shake out with Jotunni.

3:25

So we'll see. But I do think that

3:27

this was a smart draft pick by Kansas

3:29

City. I think that they absolutely had to

3:31

add to the interior of the offensive line.

3:33

And while I wasn't expecting them to add

3:35

two players, you look

3:38

back at the seventh round pick and we'll talk about

3:40

him in a couple minutes. But adding

3:42

that kind of depth is something that they absolutely

3:45

need to do because they were very barren when

3:47

you look at their offensive line before the draft.

3:51

Yeah, and honestly, they're not overly

3:54

stocked at this point as well. We're going to talk about what

3:56

the room overall looks like coming up here a little bit later.

4:00

particularly at the interior. I think Norsette, and

4:02

I'm not surprised that he snapped all rookie

4:04

camp. I think you're gonna see that no

4:06

TAs. And I think they really have to

4:09

decide and develop who

4:11

can be that guy should Creed Humphrey have to miss

4:13

again. Who can snap the ball

4:15

consistently? I don't think it's Trey. I

4:17

think Joe Tuni could probably pull it off, but I

4:19

don't know that we're expecting him back. We're gonna see

4:21

when we get an actual timeline on Joe Tuni. So

4:23

you gotta take him out. I think

4:25

CJ Hansen could do it like I said, but I'm

4:28

not betting on it. So it really comes down to,

4:30

can Mike Caliander snap for you? Or is this Hunter

4:32

Norsette's job to be the backup center? I

4:34

think that's probably where it lands. I

4:37

do think it's his job and I think it

4:39

becomes a bigger problem. Obviously, if you get into

4:41

a game situation and something happens to Humphrey and

4:43

Norsette's already playing, then you get in a situation

4:45

where you're probably having to move multiple

4:47

guys around and it is what it is at that point.

4:50

But I do think that Norsette can step in

4:52

and do this job. I think that he's well

4:55

equipped to be center. The interesting thing

4:57

is it's going to be coming from a different

4:59

hand because Norsette is righty and

5:01

Kreet Humphrey is a lefty, which is not very normal

5:03

at the center position. It's not gonna be a big

5:05

deal. I don't think it's gonna make that big of

5:07

a difference, but it is something that will be different.

5:11

Yeah, it always takes a little bit of adjustment to

5:14

the man, whether he's righty or lefty, but

5:16

you're right. It's almost like

5:18

a return, I think Patrick's previous centers

5:20

have all been righties, so that's a little

5:22

bit of a change. That's okay. I

5:25

think jumbling that particular offensive line group is

5:27

going to be a

5:30

challenge. You gotta see, again,

5:32

without knowing Tuni's timeline, you

5:35

gotta see is somebody gonna have to be in there?

5:37

Are they going to have to move guys around to

5:40

be at left guard to start the season? That's

5:42

gonna be a telltale. Last we

5:44

heard it was a July timeline. If

5:46

that's the case and say, Cece Jansen

5:50

has to go in there. Say Wonye Morris

5:52

has to go into guard. I would think

5:54

he would be the more likely candidate over

5:56

Kingsley Suo-Matee. We expect to be in

5:58

a battle for that left tackle. spot that

6:01

leaves north out as the guy that would

6:03

be maybe right into

6:05

the Nick role and personally

6:09

I'm okay with with saying

6:11

that but let's

6:13

be real Nick Allegretti had to grow

6:15

into his role he had a unique talent for

6:17

it and it isn't something that you

6:19

can just walk into it and be

6:22

set to go from day one especially

6:25

knowing that there's already an injury possibly ahead of you on

6:27

the interior three I think we

6:29

just have to be cautious about jumping to the conclusion

6:31

right away. Well

6:33

that's fair I I think it's a little different

6:35

just because I don't see

6:37

them really having somebody else on the roster right now

6:39

if it's not gonna be norzad then

6:42

who's it going to be because I don't

6:44

think you can figure that Caliendo can step

6:46

into that type of role and I don't

6:48

think that you really would feel good about

6:50

having Hanson be that guy either

6:53

because he's coming from a

6:55

completely different level of competition even

6:58

taking a step away from you know going in

7:00

from just regular college football to NFL football so

7:02

I do think that there's going to be there's

7:05

probably gonna be some learning curves and I and

7:07

I expect that but I do think that it's

7:09

here a situation where you

7:11

at least have to figure that that's gonna be

7:13

the guy and now the key and we won't

7:15

know this for a couple of months but the

7:17

bigger key is when we start getting into training

7:19

camp and seeing what they do when they start mixing

7:22

the line in training camp because they do that every year

7:24

and it's always something that I find interesting to

7:26

see when they go in there and they throw a lineman

7:29

in there that isn't normally a part

7:31

of the starters and it's because they're

7:33

preparing for situations just like this so

7:35

it'll be curious to see who comes

7:38

on the field who leaves and

7:40

what position it is and norzad

7:42

has played four of the five positions in

7:44

college so technically could be even a right

7:47

tackle at times I don't think you'd ever want them to be out

7:49

there if you could help it but it gives

7:52

you extreme depth especially when you're starting to

7:54

look it's having a limit how many linemen

7:56

you can have on game day yeah

7:59

that's for sure and how many are going to

8:01

make obviously the 53 man roster. That's

8:04

only part of the scenario though because we

8:07

have to look at the guard situation too. C.J. Hansen

8:09

got drafted here. A guy that I was stomping the

8:11

table for and I'm going to explain to you guys

8:13

why. Coming up next here on the Lockdown Podcast Network.

8:20

on the YouTube platform as well as Amazon Fire,

10:02

always available to you no matter what. A lot

10:04

of football, a lot of baseball and hockey right

10:06

now as well, so get in there and check

10:08

it out. What I want

10:10

to check out is competition, and I'm

10:13

glad that, yes, you had to get

10:15

the tackle, certainly was high, high, high

10:17

priority, but I'm glad that

10:19

they ended up coming back and

10:21

getting three offensive linemen into this

10:23

group and kind of refreshed the pipeline.

10:26

With the departure of Nick Algrady, as we talked about

10:28

before, he's kind of

10:30

like the last survivor, in my opinion, of

10:33

what they had in what was a young group that's kind

10:35

of gone through the progression through the

10:37

Super Bowl years here, and you

10:39

needed to get a fresh influx of

10:41

talent and youth. And so I love

10:43

that combination. The only holdover on the

10:46

interior is Mike Caliendo with Norzat, and

10:48

my guy CJ Hanson, who is probably

10:50

one of the smoothest drill

10:53

participants at the combine at any

10:55

offensive line position this year, and I think that's the thing

10:58

that he should hang his hat on. Well,

11:01

and he's going to be going

11:03

up against an interesting level of competition, and

11:06

I cannot wait until we get to training camp

11:08

to find out how he's dealing with that level

11:10

of competition, because even in

11:12

OTAs, it doesn't matter if he's

11:14

running second string, going up against whoever he goes

11:17

up against, as he gets the tackle, it's not

11:19

really hitting until you get into the one-on-ones and

11:21

you get into live drills, seven-on-seven, or

11:24

the passing drills or the 10-10-10 scenarios,

11:26

all those different types of things. You

11:28

can get into those, and then you

11:31

really find out what you have on it with your offensive lineman

11:33

and your defensive lineman, and that's going to be a lot of

11:35

fun to watch this year. Yeah,

11:37

I agree. He's, like

11:39

you mentioned earlier, going to

11:42

be going through quite a jump in competition.

11:45

This is a guy that played the likes of

11:47

Dartmouth and Yale and

11:49

those kind of programs. That's

11:52

not the easiest transition to make. But

11:55

as I hit to that, he's got a couple of

11:57

things going for him. He's got a great, thick build.

12:00

does North's at North's at lower half is Really

12:02

bid to be a bill to be a people mover Hanson's

12:05

bill well, but reminds

12:08

me of Andrew Wiley because he's thick through the

12:10

chest and torso But his feet

12:12

are really quick. He's a little bit skinnier in terms

12:14

of like the calf structure But

12:17

has good bubble and hamstrings

12:19

that can get the job done But he's the

12:21

guy that I think is more of a flow

12:23

throwback towards What the Chiefs

12:25

had done before the shift to power with in

12:28

particular trace myths, so I think

12:30

he's more of a toonie type and Could

12:34

do better at left than he could it right and

12:36

I think that's most likely where he lands Interesting

12:40

so do you think he's more like LDT and

12:42

the fact that he's going to need a year

12:44

or two to Acclimate

12:47

to the to the game I Think

12:50

that's more than likely But

12:53

I will say this to Comments

12:56

that I got from the combine were that he

12:58

was more than comfortable and more than competent in

13:01

Position drills and everything else that he could be

13:03

doing to measure up to Guys

13:06

from D1, you know national champion

13:08

programs So I won't

13:10

put it past him if Joe toonie's not ready

13:12

to go in camp or has to be on

13:14

a restricted Snap count for practice or whatever that

13:17

he doesn't get probably first and

13:19

probably lasting snaps with the ones

13:22

In at guard again the only scenario that I

13:25

would think might Thwart that is

13:27

if you feel like one of the

13:29

left tackle prospects either one in Morris or can you

13:31

sue him after you? Can go inside

13:33

and play guard for you that might be better I

13:36

like the concept of season because I do think it

13:38

keeps your screen game I think at its optimal and

13:41

I do think that it helps you get out

13:43

in space a little bit better because He

13:45

is as nimble in my opinion Especially

13:48

in full drills and in the near area eight

13:50

yards and in As Joe

13:52

toonie is so I like the fit there It'll

13:56

be interesting to see what they're able to do with Hanson and

13:58

how they decide that they want to implement him into

14:00

this passing team or this

14:02

passing offensive line. I do think

14:04

it's intriguing to know. I

14:07

mean, it's obvious he's already going to probably

14:09

be playing guard. He's going

14:11

to be probably not the interior guy

14:13

that can play all three of those positions. I

14:16

don't see him snapping. I agree with you there,

14:18

especially your one if they can help it. Obviously

14:21

emergencies are emergencies. That's a whole different

14:23

scenario. But you look at

14:25

what this means for the offensive line as

14:27

a whole. And as

14:30

we got into going into this draft, we talked

14:32

about them getting interior guys. And

14:34

that was very important that they find somebody

14:36

in the interior. Obviously,

14:38

we talked about Norzad already. Getting

14:41

a second one gives you

14:44

the ability to maybe have

14:47

Hancing sit the entire season. Kansas

14:50

City has had multiple times where they've gone

14:52

eight offensive linemen, nine offensive linemen, and had

14:54

a guy that didn't play pretty much the

14:57

entire season. May not

14:59

have even really dressed

15:01

the entire season and LDT

15:03

did that for several years. I'm not saying

15:05

that he's going to be the same type

15:07

of scenario. But it wouldn't shock me

15:10

if that's the kind of direction that they go with

15:12

it. Because when you start looking at the offensive line

15:14

in general, you're only going to be

15:16

able to keep maybe nine. And

15:19

that's going to be determined how many

15:22

tackles are you going to keep? How many interior offensive

15:24

line players are you going to keep? All

15:27

of that becomes a big deal

15:29

when you start getting down to September. And is

15:32

it possible that maybe they look at this and

15:34

they say, okay, well, we don't feel like we're where

15:37

we want to be on

15:39

the interior. And they bring in

15:41

somebody else that's on another team right now. They're

15:43

going to have depth at other positions that they

15:45

could possibly look at trading for somebody

15:47

to step in if they don't feel like either of

15:49

these guys is going to be ready to actually give

15:51

them the production that they feel like they might need

15:53

the season. Yeah,

15:55

and we're going to take a look at the

15:57

entire O-line group, how it could shake.

16:00

out what's most likely coming up next here

16:02

on the lockdown podcast network. If

16:11

there's one game that I'm excited about

16:13

right now, it is

16:15

the Avalanche versus the Dallas Stars. I'm into the

16:17

hockey playoffs and I know that a lot of

16:19

you are too and it doesn't matter whether it's

16:22

it's hockey or you're thinking major league baseball now

16:24

that it's up and running there's the NBA playoffs.

16:26

You can get the experience that you're looking for

16:28

16:31

16:35

three point line. You can get it all at

enjoy a line play that is

18:37

that. It's a have a bottom

18:39

line for me and this is

18:42

obviously a big transition year. On.

18:45

The safety blankets. It's. Alien. Andy

18:48

Reid and Heck are a lot about for

18:50

us. We. See that can

18:52

all over the place and I think. Having

18:55

so much turnover right now? would you take

18:57

a look at eight? The. Top

18:59

Ten. The. Guys the there in the

19:01

battles for the position Groups. Of. Three

19:03

rookies that we already talked about are in

19:05

there obviously left tackle. Was. A backup role

19:07

at center and a backup role at guard. On.

19:11

The only two guys are coming back and

19:13

my Kelly indo who played more or less

19:15

than he did right. but I think position

19:18

change a flip to write is probably. What?

19:20

I would like to see more and Lucas yang

19:22

for we don't talk about enough. There

19:24

are some interesting prospect again younger ones behind

19:26

of you have a god trick or two

19:28

is like a where this year two or

19:31

three from the international program to where he's

19:33

going to have a chance. Okay,

19:35

so. Up and coming

19:37

or two players on this roster. Now that

19:39

or or or the International designation program. You

19:42

have Nick tours another guard on. Merrier.

19:45

Interesting. Guy, I'm not sure that

19:47

he can beat out Hansen in and

19:50

squarely Caliendo. Ah, But.

19:52

For me of that often wondered

19:54

because really intrigues me. Easy to

19:56

driscoll. That. I think has some upside to

19:58

and. But that's a

20:00

position group at tackle that is pretty

20:03

well stacked at this point. If

20:05

you include Driscoll, he would be the fifth guy.

20:07

He's six foot eight. I mean, he's enormous, over

20:10

320 pounds. There's

20:12

a lot that would go into him making this roster. I

20:14

don't expect that. I do expect him to be a practice

20:16

squad player, but one with upside. But that

20:18

still leaves four viable tackles. And I think

20:20

when we start about setting the room, we

20:23

got to look at the tackles first because

20:25

a lot of the inside is kind of squared

20:27

away, at least for the most part. What

20:30

do you see happening this year at the tackle spot

20:32

in terms of, I don't know the battles, but what

20:34

is the total count? Well,

20:37

and I actually just wrote an article about

20:39

this on Chiefs corner on

20:42

offense today. And well, for

20:44

Wednesday and then on Friday, I'll have the defense and

20:46

I'll talk about special teams on Sunday. But looking

20:49

at the offensive line, I think that they keep

20:51

nine. I think that's generally where

20:53

they end up is nine or 10. I

20:56

don't know that they are going to be able to get

20:58

to 10 this year. It's going to be a question of

21:00

how many they want to keep on defense. It's

21:02

always one of those things where you got to figure out who

21:05

you're going to keep and where. And

21:07

your special teams guys become very important when you start

21:09

getting down to the lower end. To

21:12

me, it's a matter of who your top

21:14

three guys are in Taylor and

21:16

Kingsley and Juanne Morris. Is

21:19

the A a guarantee on the roster? I

21:21

would think so at this point, but without

21:24

seeing him in training camp, it's

21:26

a question of does he get beat out by a

21:28

guy like Chiu or does he get

21:30

beat out by a guy like Driscoll? I wouldn't imagine

21:32

that's going to be the case, but

21:34

I still think they end up keeping four tackles.

21:36

And if they do that, then

21:38

you're keeping four or five guards

21:40

and centers. And obviously

21:43

you got three with Humphrey,

21:45

Tooney and Smith. The

21:47

question is who are going to be

21:49

the other two? And another

21:52

question that you could even posit into that

21:55

same thought process is Tooney

21:58

is supposed to be available by July. What

22:01

happens if it's not

22:03

July and it's September or

22:05

October or November? Yeah, because

22:07

it's possible they could end up putting them on the

22:09

pup And then you're talking about one of these guys

22:11

that they just drafted probably starting if they

22:13

don't make a trade to go Get somebody else to step in The

22:17

nice thing is is they have they have the options right

22:20

now because they have the cap space to be able to

22:22

do some things and

22:24

when we talk about And

22:26

I'll just throw this out there because we already know what we're

22:28

talking about for tomorrow So we're gonna talk about Haddon then we're

22:30

gonna talk about the corners. That's a position

22:32

where they have a lot of talent and You

22:35

have to start wondering how many are they gonna keep

22:37

for one and two? Is it

22:40

enough talent to maybe consider trading one of

22:42

those corners to get another position if

22:44

you need depth? Yeah,

22:47

that could very well be it I

22:49

would posit a slightly different theory that if Driscoll

22:51

or or somebody else that you feel you can

22:53

get to the practice squad is Going to be

22:56

your insurance and you feel comfortable with that

22:59

as a call-up later in the season should you need

23:01

it? I wonder if they can't go

23:03

into the season with only three tackles on the 53 the

23:06

three young guys including Taylor It

23:09

is possible, but that brings me to the next

23:11

question, too. If there's one Position

23:13

you would add in free agency. It might be

23:15

an experienced veteran tackle I don't think you need

23:17

it on the inside but to me

23:19

it might be the tackle. Do you still think that's a

23:21

need? I Don't

23:24

right now But you're not really gonna know until you actually

23:26

hit the pads on see what these guys can do Because

23:28

that's really where you're going to find out are they

23:31

going to be capable this year? Are you feeling like

23:33

they can be capable? Don't get me wrong Andy reading

23:35

Andy heck are gonna be able to see what they're

23:37

seeing in OTAs and they're gonna get an idea of

23:40

What they need to work on with these guys and

23:42

their technique over the next couple of months to try

23:44

to see if they can Get them into starting and

23:46

being ready to be Patrick blindside guy But

23:50

right now I mean they still have the

23:52

ability to go out and sign the guy

23:54

like Donovan Smith So maybe you do that

23:56

and he's your fourth tackle and I'm just

23:58

throwing Smith out there as an example and

24:01

you end up keeping four tackles and the

24:03

Aang's gone and You

24:05

have a Driscoll as your fifth tackle

24:07

that's on the practice squad You're gonna have a tackle on

24:09

the practice squad who it's going to be is gonna be

24:11

a question But

24:14

you're gonna have somebody on the practice squad And

24:16

when it comes to the interior, I don't

24:19

know I I almost argue that maybe they need

24:21

somebody on the interior more than they need somebody

24:23

on the exterior because I feel like You

24:26

know who your right tackle is going to be, you know, I

24:29

Feel like they at least have a good idea

24:31

that one of those two guys is going

24:33

to be your left tackle. I Don't

24:37

know that they feel comfortable about to any being able to

24:39

go and one of those guys being able to step in

24:41

and start Yeah,

24:44

and that's a fair point and if they

24:47

don't then yes that they have to shore

24:50

that up I'm just gonna do a quick search here

24:52

about Free

24:54

agents that might be available because off the top

24:56

of my head I can't name a

24:58

single interior guy that I'd go out and sign

25:00

today And I think that is probably going to

25:02

be what the crux of the problem is Yeah,

25:07

no when I get that and that's definitely possible

25:09

that there's nobody out there But

25:14

I think that maybe you have to look

25:16

at the trade Yeah,

25:19

maybe that's what you have to look at is that That

25:22

viable it's gonna come down to what you see in OTAs

25:27

to give you an idea of what you're gonna see

25:29

in a camp. They are gonna put the

25:31

best five on The field

25:33

I know that for a certainty but

25:36

it brings me to the point that I feel

25:38

like The most likely scenarios

25:40

the best five play and that includes both

25:43

of Kingsley Sua Monta Yeah, and one

25:45

a Morris we're gonna find out what they get to

25:47

as we get ready to see them coming up This

25:51

hasn't been announced yet, it's not

25:53

updated on the list. I'm looking at anyway, Anders

25:55

Pete I think is going to the Raiders But

25:58

I believe Dalton Ryszle is still out

26:00

there. Connor Williams is

26:03

still out there. Mark Lewinkowski is still out

26:05

there. Phil

26:08

Haynes, Lucas Patrick, those are

26:10

some of the guards, Scott Quiesenberry. Those

26:14

were a couple of the guards that are still out there. I'm not

26:16

saying that that's necessarily the direction you wanna go. But

26:19

there are some players out there that you could

26:21

potentially consider Gabe Jackson still out

26:23

there. I know he's older. But

26:27

can you get you by for a couple of

26:29

games? That's really what you're looking for. And

26:31

I feel like he would be stepping into a pretty

26:33

good position. Although, you'd

26:36

probably want, it'd be better if

26:38

it was right guard than it would be

26:40

left guard because I think you'd really rather

26:43

have somebody between Humphrey and Taylor versus

26:45

having to get a new guy in

26:47

between either a rookie or

26:49

your second year left tackle in

26:51

Humphrey. Yeah, it's gonna be about the availability,

26:53

right? We'll see what they can get done.

26:57

It's not over yet, folks. We will

26:59

be getting more information as we get

27:01

to OTAs. But before that, the

27:04

biggest loss of this off season has been

27:07

luxurious need. What do they do in the

as a whole, that's coming up tomorrow. So
