The reason I wear scrubs—they used to make fun like, “Oh Doc, you’re wearing scrubs”—but I wear scrubs so the kids can see it. Because I didn't see very many black doctors growing up. I didn't know I could be it until I could see it. So, I wear scrubs all the time and they ask, “What are you? Are you a janitor? Are you a custodian? What do you do? You ain't no doctor.” “Well, that’s what my momma say I am. I’m a doctor. If I do it, you can do it. I bet you can't be better than me.” And I challenge and play with them like that. And my challenge is: I want you to be better than me.
