Intalere welcomes Attorney William H. Maruca, Partner from the prestigious Fox Rothschild firm here in Pittsburgh. Mr. Maruca will discuss the 2012 U.S. Supreme Court Ruling on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. On June 28th, 2012, by a narrow 5-4 decision, the United States Supreme Court ruled largely in favor of upholding nearly all provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Maruca will provide an overview of what was at issue and why the court’s ruling was so consequential. He will explain the court’s ruling on the constitutionality of the "individual mandate" provision of the ACA and why Chief Justice Roberts' opinion was so significant to the outcome. Attorney Maruca will address the implications and penalties for those who choose not to purchase health insurance, the intent of the "Medicaid expansion", financial implications for those states giving consideration to a refusal to expand their Medicaid programs under PPACA, and some of the open questions in the wake of the decision.
